Found a stray boxer in front of the RUSD office building and called to get Redlands animal control to come get it. After 15 minutes on hold the girl told me to call her supervisor and gave me a number, the number was for Devore Shelter. Devore said call Redlands, since the dog was found in Redlands they refused to get it--no one would come get it and the worker at Redlands told me if I left the dog there I was breaking the law. She wouldn't have someone come look at the dog unless I posted it on Facebook first, even though i told her I didn't have Facebook and expressed numerous times he was a very LARGE, intact male boxer with an unknown temperament. I expressed the dog seemed fairly nice but I wasn't feeling safe with him and my three year old alone in the vehicle. Animal control said my kid would be fine and I had to bring him in or face legal action. I called a friend to come help me and brought the dog in. When we arrived there were three female staff at the desk. The blonde pictured below kept saying he was a good boy and seemed nice. She proceeded to come out to the lobby to give him treats straight from her palm and pet him while I scanned for a microchip. She went back into their office and he began quietly growling at everyone that walked by. This was making me uncomfortable. It was just he and I in the small lobby and they clearly were taking their time. I asked how long the process would take due to feeling uneasy being alone with this animal. That's when the male employee emerged from his office with an angry demeanor. When he approached the desk everything changed, suddenly they were petrified of this animal they were forcing me to be in close proximity with, the same animal my three year old was "fine to drive with". During the whole process, multiple people had come to meet with dogs and potentially adopt while I was in the lobby. They were asked to wait directly outside the door while the staff (pictured below)proceeded to walk back and forth past the dog to get paperwork and ids from them. The staff expressed they needed my ID for paperwork and couldn't trust me to fill it out without it. The ID was in the car and the staff refused to hold the dog while I retrieved it. They wanted me to walk outside past all the other adoptees with a dog showing aggressive behavior. The same dog they wouldn't let any one of those adoptees be in the room with for their safety. When I came back from the car with my ID the male began yelling at me, that it was my dog and I can't leave the stray dog at the shelter(I thought that was the purpose of an animal shelter but I guess not). They said he was aggressive--no wonder I didn't want my three year old with him. I fully believe the hostile nature of the male employee put the dog on edge and caused him to react. You guys had no problem putting my three year old in danger but you guys couldn't be bothered. The male worker had way too much Suavecito in his hair and a skin tight polo shirt all while trying to intimidate me and make me feel unsafe in the office. He was accusing the dog of protecting me and prosecuting me for turning in my own animal. He sat there staring me down repeating demands and yelling at me. They are incompetent and the whole shelter is ran by idiots. They kept the dog and threatened they are having animal control investigate me for abandoning my dog. They are a joke. read more

Staff was excellent, adopted a boxer mix and the experience was a lot better than expected from an animal shelter.

Beware! The following animal rescue center: Sister Sister Rescue Redlands , CA sistersisterrescue@yahoo.com (909) 488-1634 I adopted a Chihuahua puppy from this rescue center from Allison Maxwell Johnson and Lauren Olson. Turns out that the puppy has been infected with Guardia and was never taken to a vet to be checked out. Allison administered the first puppy shots herself to save money. Allison states on her website that all of her animals are vetted but refuses to tell me the name of the Vet the puppy was taken to. She later admitted she never took it to a vet. Allison is also advertising the adoption of Tiny's sibling Jimmy on her site, aware that the puppy is infected as well. I'm asking the public to help me shut down her rescue center because I feel she's not working in the animals best interest. Thank you in advance for your support. I have a huge vet bill that I am struggling to pay because of this issue. My 17 yr old chipo is not doing well and is in critical condition. I've had to set up a go fund me account because of the choice that Allison Maxwell Johnson made by not taking the infected litter to the vet for a checkup. I urged everyone to research the rescue center you plan to use before adopting. Allison has refused to reimburse me for my pet bills while bashing me on her sister sister rescue website on Facebook. Brought in some kittens that were in my backyard and in my garage, they crawled in under the door. Two women were sitting at desks one oversized dark haired woman ran up to see what I had, took one look at the four kittens and said nope, we don't take kittens. That was the rudest woman ever. I am 75 years old and I got instantly ticked off. Another woman came up and said to release them back out in my backyard and wait for the mother to take care of them. My backyard is full of possums and raccoons. Okay great advice Redlands shelter. I'm telling you I don't know what they shelter other than dogs. But they have changed to the negative thru the years. I've been in Redlands for 45 years, it used to be a great place. The word shelter shouldn't even be in the title of this creepy establishment. My tax dollars are not serving the public when it comes to this entity. If I could have rated it lower than one star I would have. Beware! worst shelter experience ever. The employees have no communication between them what so ever. Had an admin telling me one thing and a manager telling me another. One manager promised to give us a call back and proceeded not to. Even promised us first pick on a kitten if foster were not to adopt the kitties only for them to let us know they have no clue when fosters will be back. And they can't even get in contact with their own fosters which is ridiculous. Every call I had, they never knew when the kittens were coming back and said their fosters haven't returned their calls. Ridiculous! We asked them to call us if any kittens arrived only for the Admin tell us oh we can't give you guys a call back because we're so busy. Meanwhile we had someone the previous day say they can call us back so to hear that was so frustrating. No communication at all! It was like they didn't want their cats adopted at all. We had a lady tell us to come at 10am on a Saturday for the kittens which is the day kittens are suppose to be back from their foster homes ONLY to hear them call and find out none of them answered. ON TOP OF IT we were only told AFTER waiting almost 3 HOURS for a kitten. Worst staff i've had to deal with. They were completely rude with handling the situation I had. All we wanted to do was adopt a cat and just came home pissed off. Absolute nightmare. read more

I adopted my gorgeous giant Cyrus here and the staff was amazing! They gave me a bag of doggie goodies and an entire 10 lbs box of milk bones and a pet water fountain for him! Cyrus doesn't like any of the toys I bought for him but he loves the pumpkin squeaky toy they gave in the goodie bag ha. I even got a great tip on the kind of lead that would work for such a big dog. Had a great experience here adopting our kitten Gigi. Professional, helpful, friendly and to the point. Our kitten is so lovely and affectionate, she's everyone's best friend. New management who stated this is a municipal part of the city of Redlands. Nothing like the old caring shelter, that truly sheltered and was a safe haven. I honestly am horrified and crying I even thought it was a good place to drop a dog we found off to wait for it's family to come look for it. A volunteer blantantly stated oh that dog should be fine it's not a pit, but a lot will be getting put down due to 4th of July. We tried to get the dog after It's seven day holding period and on the day it is up for adoption the new supervisor stated the dog lunged at her, which this dog was a total sweetheart and around kids, animals, and showed no aggression to the officers who picked it up. They will now not let it be adopted until it gets "further evaluated". I'm just wondering what kind of operation is happening...are you running the next Devore shelter?! read more

I waited days to call in right at 9am sharp to be able to make the first appointment for a puppy I saw online and drove a total of 320 miles for 2 adoption appointments. I was ultimately denied the adoption due to one of their Animal Control Officers not acknowledging the puppies display of a common behavioral concern with rescue dogs-leash reactivity. On February 19th I was first informed that I was denied the adoption due to not having the consent of our homeowner, but our homeowner insisted she never received a call from the department. After I called the shelter to have this remedied I was then denied the adoption a day later due to the puppy not getting along with my 11 year old poodle mix. The issue at hand was that this little puppy was terrified of the large slip lead leash that was around her little neck. My request to have the large leash that was literally weighing her down be removed were ignored by animal control officer Lisette. This was despite us being in a fenced area and my dog having his leash. After I tried to reason with her regarding the leash she claimed that my dog's age and lack of interest in the puppy were signs of "possible future aggression" towards the puppy. She also claimed that she got along with the other dogs in her kennel so there is no reason why she shouldn't get along with my dog... Shouldn't a trained animal control officer recognize that her observation supported my leash reactivity theory? To recap, I was first denied the adoption when Lisette claimed the homeowner hung up on her even though she never actually received a call. Then I was denied the adoption due to the puppy not getting along with my dog. I had to leave behind the puppy that I spent the last couple days trying to adopt and she was forced to sleep on the cold hard concrete floor instead of my warm, loving home. And I did research on dog aggression and found nothing to support her claims that a lack of interest by a senior dog is a predictor for future aggression. I can't help but wonder if ACO Lisette was keeping the puppy for herself, a family member or a friend?!? read more

Our Spectacular, tiny, loving, brilliant, crafty, little baby MAX was saved from this kill shelter. I called last week excited to adopt a boxer. There were two at the shelter in need of a home. This was a perfect time as I am now working from home and could provide love and training to a new dog. The woman who answered the phone was so rude and discouraging. In fact, I called twice and asked numerous times for the application to be mailed to me. The woman was so disrespectful in answering my questions she told me she was passing me on to a supervisor. I sat on hold 10 minutes before hanging up. Those two boxers remain in the shelter on this cold wet weekend when one of them could have had a home. I'm super sad for the dog and pray the shelter will find more loving and supportive staff to help people adopt. read more

A cat had some kittens under our porch and after contacting animal control, they referred us to the Redlands Animal Shelter. Here's our background: We moved to Redlands from Sacramento not too long ago and recently bought a home. While in Sacramento we fostered cats and dogs for about 6 years. Once we bought our home we were excited to start fostering again. After a few days of planning we were able to get the mom cat to trust us and eventually we were able to catch one of her feral kittens, who happens to be semi paralyzed. The goal was to take these two to the shelter, purchase a trap and get the other two kittens in the system as well. The secondary goal would be to offer to foster that cat and her kittens until they could be placed in homes as we "know the drill" and my wife specializes in feral cats. When we got to the shelter at 4:15 on 11/1/17 there was a note on the door saying that they were temporarily closed. After about 3 minutes an older gentleman allowed us to come in a got someone to help us with intake. The tech who helped us with intake didn't seem to be enjoying her job or people today so instead of dealing with us like adults this tech thought that we would like to be talked down to and treated like we were bothering her because she was asked to do her job. We were harassed about where we lived, where we found the cats, how we trapped them and then asked to prove that we live in Redlands. (remember we just moved so our licenses have not been updated) This seemed to be a bit of a power play that we solved by showing our car registration. Every question or interaction was met with a condescending tone or look. Also when the tech would go down the hall to speak to another gentleman she expressed her dissatisfaction that she had to take the cats as she "didn't have a choice". Needless to say we didn't get a chance to offer to foster or really get any other info because it was essentially: You're bothering us, now leave. Let me put it this way. I don't care how your day is going. Don't take it out on me, because I don't care. I know that these jobs can be stressful and is often a thankless position. I've seen what volunteers and paid staff go through in shelters but when all I'm trying to do is help an animal I don't appreciate being spoken down to and treated like a jerk. read more

City should fire the staff. Horrible attitude and with animals you'd think they would have a little more respect when someone comes in to find a lost pet they don't. Even heard a case where they euthanized someone's pet and another where they released it to another neighborhood when they owner was supposed to pick it up. It's a real shit show down here people. My wife and I are actively looking to rescue another dog. Stopped in today to see what dogs were there but was told by the woman behind the counter and some other woman that they were closing for lunch. I said "Can I just have a minute to see your dogs?". Was told no they were closing for lunch. It was 11:48am. Not much sense that they were about adopting their animals. Sure hope they enjoyed their lunch though. read more

I went to go visit a cat here hoping to adopt and saw one I liked but she had a crooked jaw. The lady mentioned that she had a crooked jaw, but didn't say it was a problem. She said she could eat fine and everything and was a great cat. Nothing indicated a problem I would have to deal with. The cat was so loving and friendly so I decided to take her and I payed for her. The shelter took her to get fixed the next day. The lady at the shelter called me later and casually said the vet said she wanted to let me know her jaw was broken. I thought yeah her jaw is crooked I know. It didn't register that it was broken because she didn't talk about it like it was improtant or for long and like it was a terrible situation that needed a lot of attention. When I picked up the cat at the clinic the vet made it very apparent this was a huge problem. Her jaw was broken in two places and he said she has a full on broken jaw and that's been like that for years so she's gotten use to it. She said I'd have to get it fixed and the cost would be $3,000-$5,000. They said the shelter should have made her unadoptable. I was told all this after seeing her, thinking i met the cat i connected with, and then paying for her. I was scammed. I feel so heartbroken and like I have the sweetest baby I wont be able to keep. I don't have that kind of money right now. I'm a college student living by myself. It's day 2 with her now and I'm not sure what to do. An unfixed broken jaw may cause infections or other problems. If I bring her back they'll probably euthanize her since she's unadoptable. :-/ read more

I understand the rules about animals being spayed and neutered when adoption. I adopted two beautiful one year cats and now I am heart broken because I went to pick both of them up from the vet and the vet notified me right when I got there that one of the cats was pregnant and they did a abortion on her. I was so devastated that happened to her because now she is stressing out running around the whole house looking for her babies. I wasn't notified in anyway from the animal shelter or the vet. The vet told me what happened and that he told the animal control officer that the cat was pregnant. her adoption paperwork doesn't say anything about her being pregnant. I believe in spay/neuter our animals but in this situation NO. read more

Rather than complaining I'll state how this place can improve from a first time visiting family: first, blonde lady with glasses customer service needs to improve! We were there to potentially adopt an animal not to argue w you. Two, there was a loud barking dog with a litter of puppies barking her head off in the cat room; we couldn't pet or engage with cats so if you're trying to have cats adopted get those dogs out of there. Nancy the volunteer is amazing let me start there. Our older dog had died about six months ago leaving our other dog depressed and craving companionship. We went to several shelter and on a whim we decided to go to the Redlands shelter. I am so grateful we did. We originally went there because of the picture of another dog. The dog onsite we originally wanted was a fence climber, so that was out. We came across another dog who we spent time with and fell in love with. However, they don't let you adopt until the dog do a meet and greet. So we raced down to get our dog lucky for us they were super accommodating. They have rules and a process for adoption. They are very transparent about the dog strengths and shortcomings. Which is awesome because there are no surprises. The day after Nancy even check up on us. I feel like the adoption was reasonable. This is a great place if you are a responsible pet own looking for your forever fur baby. read more

I just adopted two young dogs from this shelter and I have to say, the people (Hi, girls!) are the greatest. They were so patient with me and the animals it was unreal. I spent about 3 hours at the shelter trying out the different "goggies". One of the girls and I sat outside while I told her about my little chihuahua that I had to put down 3 weeks earlier and she started crying with me. Those people have a heart. All the dogs were washed, and really taken care of. When I left, not only did I have a good price on the animals but the staff made sure I had a bag of treats, 3 new collars for the dogs, a sweater for the "baby", and all medical needs were taken care of. I get my little "furbabies" tomorrow night and can't wait to see them. Go here for your pet adoption. You won't be sorry. read more

We are originally from Venice Beach Calif, but during our Filming of our Documentary we found abandoned Kittens- "(topic ref; we found 4 stray kittens/ @ this animal shelter). Wow, really happy with the service and comfort of desk / intake crew. But I wish they were open on Monday. I am glad to hear that the "turnover" rate of kittens/cats are fair; kill vrs. new owner adoptions. Ref; check out the grease board/statistics graph board near the front desk wall. If you decide to drop off or "donate" , make sure you keep in contact with the office regarding the status of your live animal donation. The intake crew informed us that the kittens would be in their custody for approx. 1 month." I know that our daily life events are more important than 4 stray kittens but it is nice to notice that they're good people out there and see that ; sometimes, our public services (paid by Tax Payers) are working! read more

I received absolutely horrible treatment here. I found a lost dog and called to see if I could drop him off there. The girl said to take him to San Bernardino bc that's the jurisdiction of where I found him. I was only 2 minutes from this shelter though, so I stopped by on the off chance they'd take him anyways. I was treated horrible!! I knocked on the front door and no one answered even though I saw people literally on the other side of the door. Then a male security guard came out and started treating me like I was some hooligan trying to pawn off a dog I didn't want...... I am a 23 year old girl and I had my 7 year old niece with me. He then left us outside to "check security cameras" for where we found him, as if he was a real cop and had access to stuff like that. He was on a total power trip. We left and took him to the SB shelter, and they said that wasn't even the right place to take him! They said this place should have actually done their research before telling us to take him to a different place. Absolutely horrible and if this is how they treat people who are just trying to help a dog they found in 100° weather, I cringe to think of how they must treat their poor animals! read more

Words can't describe how amazing this shelter is. I found a stray dog and took care of him over night about a month ago. Through Facebook I got in touch with some volunteers and they let me drop him off on a day they were closed. They kept me updated on him almost daily . He was adopted by a cute young couple and is now an indoor pup. They really seemed to care about his well being and that means so much! read more

Went into the shelter and the 3 girls 1/8/20 at 11:40 am were extremely rude and annoyed seems as they didn't want to help or do anything wishing the these dogs nothing but the best and hope better people work there and actually give them love and actually enjoy being there. I adopted my kitty, Boots, from Redlands animal shelter. I spent a couple of days there, in order to find a pet that I had a good bond with. I was able to open the cages and let the cats roam, one at a time, to see their personality and find a good match for me. The staff was able to answer a lot of questions for me about each cat. They make it a point to know the animals history and temperament. There is also a significant discount for animals that are a little bit older. My kitty cost 22 to adopt. When you go in, do not be thrown off by the scent, because it is after all, an animal shelter so it will smell a bit overwhelming at first. Each time I have visited them, I have seen the staff working hard to clean the pets areas. You can also volunteer to come in and visit the animals, which they love, since many of them miss their old families. I highly recommend this shelter. It has been a year since I adopted Boots, and every day, I'm very thankful that I did. read more

We had the best and easiest expreience with this Shelter. We came in about 30 min before they closed thinking we will just take a look at the dogs available for adoption. We just so happen to find the perfect dog for us so they let us meet the dog, play with the dog and never rushed us. The apodtion process was a breeze and they were very informative and knowledgeable on the animals they had. I would recommend adopting a pet from this shelter. read more

I am a Hugh fan of this animal shelter! The staff was friendly and helpful. When I found a dog I liked, I was allowed to spend as much time as I wanted with the dog. Also one of the staff members came out and greeted me and informed me about the dog's prior history. The staff told me she was going to a rescue that day unless I adopted her. I told the staff I needed time to think about it. The shelter gave me until noon the next to think about it. The only issue I had with the shelter was the vet in San Bernardino they use. When a dog hasn't been fixed they send them to the Dog and cat clinic. Which I didn't like, the location is was in a horrible part of town. They try to nickel and dime you and they don't allow you to see your pet until they are done hustling you for every penny they can get. You will be there for an Hr min. The staff was a hot mess Un professional too much gossip in front of clients. The Dr. Was the only professional one there. However I didn't like how he put in my dogs stitches, ugh. I wouldn't go back to this vet. Also the shelter doesn't cover cherry eye, so be aware of that! read more
