Reunion has been a breath of fresh air - really good espresso drinks, pastries, and breads. To be 100% honest, Crucible's coffee is better, but their pastry selection is minuscule and they can feel a bit stuffy. Reunion's pastries are good, though I wish they had more French-inspired things like pain au chocolat, croissants, or even soft cinnamon rolls, but I feel they excel more at the breads side of baking. I got a mini sourdough loaf once and it was excellent! Service is always friendly and happy, and the shop itself is cute, but there isn't much space inside. I'm all for tables outside, but there's not much real estate there either, especially on a busy morning. I think a small adjustment to flow could make it easily sit a couple cafe tables inside without it feeling so crowded. I just miss the days of being able to hang out and have good coffee and snacks while doing some work on a laptop. Seems like most businesses would rather have you out the door instead. I have high standards for bakeries and cafes, and Reunion meets most of them. They're now my favorite place to go in the mornings in Staunton... if they're open. I would go there much more often if I could actually eat my breakfast there instead of having to get back in my car or sit in the blistering summer heat.

The bagel scene is continuing to grow and I would argue these bagels are better than Bodos in Cville and so many of the other offerings within 45 minutes of here. They definitely have a few kinks to work out but will come in time as they settle in. Bagels were delivered to the table with loosely wrapped paper instead of in a bag, on a tray, or properly closed. The indoor seating is limited while there is also not outdoor seating. Self-serve water would be a great addition. All normal growing pains and still highly suggest that you check them out!

When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for?
