I feel like after reading all of the amazing reviews that I did, when I ordered the cake from here that my cake and cupcake fell short in so many way. The cake itself was dry and the "block O" that I had requested looked like it had been haphazardly put on in a rush that morning, as well as the happy birthday writing. The flavor of the cake was bland, dry and overall one of the worst I've ever had. The cupcakes were burnt on the bottoms and didn't even fill the cupcakes filler cup. There was more frosting than cupcake and when I say this, please refer to the photo. We had asked for Buckeye cupcakes and I'm not even sure where this went wrong. Photos were sent and descriptions of the items asked for. Nothing was as it should have been or what I had envisioned. When he opened the box, I was stunned to say the least. At that point it was too late to get another custom cake and cupcakes. I'm not sure where our order fell so short of all the other amazing pieces I've seen come from this bakery online, but I will not be retuning for anything and wish I had never gone here to begin with. I needed to order a cake delivered for my kid's birthday. I'm on the West Coast so I couldn't physically check any bakeries out. I decided to go with Vivi's based on a phone conversation. They are a little casual in their approach and I'm used to West Coast prices. I was like "are you sure you can get it done for that price?" They assured me that they could do it. So happy (as other Yelpers have mentioned) that these delicious cupcakes (which used to be Sweethaus) are still in Charlottesville! Even though I'm not the biggest fan of icing... these make me a believer/craver! The chocolate chip cookie dough icing is still a winner in my heart - it doesn't have a "fake" flavor and really tastes like cookie dough. The cake itself is moist and balanced as well. The cupcakes can be pricey but are definitely high quality. The staff is so lovely! The current location is a bit cramped for space, but at my recent December visit, I heard that they're moving to a new and bigger location at the end of the month - so exciting news! read more

PISTACHIO CUPCAKES ARE BACK IN MY LIFE!! The reincarnation of the loved Cville fav SweetHaus in the cutest little space on Ivy. It has all the same flavors and an expanded candy shelf. Literally about 20 cupcake flavors in both mini and normal cupcake size. My favorites are pistachio (obvi), salted Carmel and almond. They also do fun seasonal flavors like key lime for summer. Fun tip: the minis are only $1 so you can basically sample every flavor for a fraction of the cost. read more

Sweethaus is back! I was heartbroken when one of my favorite dessert places in Charlottesville closed, so I was so excited to hear they were back just under a different name. Their new location is an adorable blue cottage with the same Sweethaus selection of cupcakes. I ordered my all-time favorite: chocolate cookie dough with a scoop of the most amazing chocolate chip cookie dough frosting on top. Tasted just as good as I remembered! About $3 for a regular size cupcake and $1 for a mini. Only downside is (likely due to the small size and restarting of business) they don't always have all the flavors available, or just have 1-2 left of certain ones. I went on a rainy Sunday afternoon- awesome that it's open on Sunday because I was craving baked goods! I got the marble cupcakes, an "everything" cookie, and a container of Pimento cheese. I will definitely be coming back. The cookie was fantastic, great size too. The cupcakes were good- the baker did mention she overcooked them and offered me 2 for 1. This was such a sweet gesture. Super cute little hut off of ivy road with cupcakes AND candy now. Not really a place to sit down and chat over a cupcake like the old location, but it's cute nonetheless highly recommend their red velvet cupcakes: light and airy that will satisfy ANY sweet tooth. Also, they sell mini cupcakes now so if you're as indecisive as me, you could just all of the flavors and not feel guilty/ super full/ worried about you're waist line!!! read more

If you liked SweetHaus then get pumped. Vivi's is much of the same staff AND all those cupcakes that made SweetHaus famous. All the same flavors (salted caramel, cookies&creme, grasshopper, funfetti, lemon, pistachio, almond, carrot cake, redvelvet, etc) and a mix of the small $1 mini cupcakes and the ~$3 full sizers. Vivi's shop is super small and the business seems to be a trimmed down version of its former self. When I stopped by for Easter treats there was only 1 (super friendly) staff member working and I was in/out in 2 minutes. Highly recommend stopping in. read more

Great little gem just down the road from Monticello. Stopped in for coffee and cinnamon buns in the morning and had to come back for lunch. Everything was delicious. This place does not even deserve 1 star. I ordered a 2 tier cake for my wedding and my order was completely wrong. I didn't find out until I was cutting it with my husband. I was already disappointed because the geniuses put my 2 tier cake in a single layer cake box (the cake was $154 and they couldn't get the correct box for it?) the icing was ruined on the top tier and there was no way to fix it. When I called the place to tell them about this experience, i was met with a person defending the cake maker saying that he'd worked with her (Lauren) for 4 years and never had that happen. As if working with someone for 4 years excuses them from epically messing up on my wedding day. I was told that i would be called back and no one called me back. So I called again today (about 10 times already) and only get voicemail or a busy signal. Very unprofessional, waste of money (the cake was too soft and sloppy to cut neatly after being in the fridge for more than 2 hours) and it didn't even taste good.
