This place is cute. It's easy to miss, so pay attention to the signs. We were lucky enough to have been looking for the entrance as an employee was on a smoke break and they told us how to find it. The interiors is beautiful, the staff is awesome, but the food was just okay. I'm not sure if I'm just a snob because I have the luxury of having more traditional things, and I lived in Chicago and the Bay Area, but I don't think it measures up. The dumplings were delicious! In fact, I'd go back and just eat dumplings. The ramen was okay. The noodles were cooked well, but the broth is my favorite part of ramen and it left something to be desired. This made for a very enjoyable birthday dinner! The cocktails were great (and like, half the price of what they'd be in a larger city). The sushi was good but I wish I had tried the pizza. Those looked and smelled transcendent as they were walked past our table. I had a negative customer service experience at Epiphany Farms a few months ago but wanted to give this family of restaurants another try. After all, they each get overwhelmingly positive reviews, so maybe my experience was a fluke. I'm glad I gave it another try, because the service at Anju was rather excellent- swift, friendly, but not overbearingly so where it feels fake. They got my order wrong not once but twice. The same order. I had a $120 order and when I arrived to pick it up they said the order had been "lost" so I waited over an hour for them to fulfill my order I had already paid for, and even then they forgot items when they gave me the final order. This isn't rocket science. This isn't astrophysics. Get the order, cool the order, put the order in the bag. Also, I was offered no restitution for having to wait or for them getting my order wrong twice. read more

Stopped here for an early dinner. Heard some good reviews from the husbands friends. The decor is impressive with a new modern take of bar grill above an existing restaurant below. The service is average. The prices are average. The food was terrible! I had the Gucci Cali suchi rolls. They tasted warm and fell apart every time I picked one up to dip into my soy sauce. My husband's pizza had a doughy middle. The acoustics in the place made it very loud! They also don't have blended drinks after they said they did. Error was made when the waitress put my order in and had to come back to tell me they didn't own a blender. This place is not on my return list. read more

Yelp let me down big time on this one. We were driving north on I55 and needed a good dinner. I checked yelp for a good sushi place and Anju was on top of the list. I saw reviews saying "best sushi", and I saw a few Korean dishes on the menu, suggesting it might've been owned by Korean/s (totally good thing in my mind) who also do some Japanese things like sushi and ramen... I should've paid attention to the pizza on the menu. I now can sure say it's not owned by Koreans. No respected Asian would hire those wannabe sushi chefs who don't even know how to cook rice. But let's start from the beginning. The place does look cool. It's a lounge kind of place, and would it adhere to the usual lounge menu - it would be 5*! I totally believe they'd have good pizza. But no, they had to do the "asian fusion" thing. And they hired some unsuspecting white boys to do it. Who don't even know how to cook rice. We've ordered: ramen korean appetizer, whatever they call it so called "korean bbq" chicken wings few sushi rolls sushi nigiri. chicken wings were actually good, and nicely crunchy. The only problem is the sauce they use is tasting like usual Buffalo hot sauce and so, it's as far from Korean BBQ sauce as buffalo from a pear. The rest went worse. Pork Ramen was some kind of... noodle soup. Nothing in common with any of real ramen tastes. And def not remotely resembling pork/tonkatsu ramen. Sushe were even worse. They fish slices on nigiri were smaller than in cheapest Chinese buffet (see picture). And both nigiri and rolls were DRIPPING. I.e. you lift it up with chopsticks - wait about one second, and the rice will start dripping down from the sushi. Ether too much rice dressing, and/or wrong kind of rice for sushi... On top of that rolls were very "fusion" on unusual ingredients. But not very tasty. So all in all, looks like very amateur kind of operation. I've been craving Ramen since I moved to Peoria and haven't found any place that has tonkotsu so I was dying to come here. Unfortunately the ramen was very bland with almost a vegetable broth. BUT!! The Korean pizza was superb and their cocktails were delicious so I would go back again and again. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, planned a lunch here. I am a big fan of Sushi and Dimsum ( Dumplings) and my friend recommended that I try out here. The ambience is beautiful, modern and eclectic. Loved some of the wall hangings that they have. We ordered Spicy Tuna , Spicy Salmon Sushi along with Veg Steamed Buns and Pork Dumplings. Loved the Spicy Salmon . The Tuboki ( Roe) was delicate and delicious. The Jalapenos added a nicy spicy twist to it. The Spicy Tuna though, did not have the same umami feel as the Spicy Salmon. But is still one of the best sushi I have tasted. My son ordered the Korean BBQ Wings which he loved it, although it was a bit sweet for my taste. My wife loved the Veg steamed buns and liked the fact that they were spicy. The pork dumplings were great although I felt that it could have been left in the steamer for an another minute. We then ordered the Margerita Pizza, which was a BIG mistake. The crust was burnt and it tasted pretty bland. We just hated it. Service was top notch and they really pay attention to you without being too obtrusive. Couple of recommendations : Expand the Dumpling offerings. Add in some chicken dumplings like Sui mai, and Shrimp dumplings like Har gao. Serve the dumplings in the Bamboo dumpling baskets, it really helps to retain the heat and keep the dumplings moist. Serving in the aluminium/ steel containers without the lid tends to cool the dumplings and make them chewy. Offer some Asian main courses like chowmein, Fried rice etc.. which I really felt missing in the menu considering it's a pan asian restaurant. This place isn't bad, but it's not for everyone. First, the atmosphere is LOUD. Music is loud and bright lights everywhere. Also, this place is very popular, so there are lots of conversations going on at once. My wife and I got sushi and pizza. It was good, solid, but not out-of-this-world. Upon recommendations by a colleague, my fiend and I tried Anju. It is difficult to find as it is on the second floor of another venue owned by the same company. The ambiance and decor of Anju Above is stellar. So as a place to eat and drink, its multiple level room is very nice. The menu is great, in that it offers a variety of cuisines that normally wouldn't be found together. We were seated promptly and the service continued to be great throughout our visit. The drink list is very good, offering a great beer list. The prices were ok as well. However, the food was good. Just good. I had higher expectations based on reviews and word of mouth as well as price. I may return to try other things on the menu. As a place to hang out or take a date the ambiance would be five stars. What brings my review down is the cost to quality ratio of the food. The buns were good, the sushi rolls were good. But for the price, I'd expect great. read more

Double date night with my wife and our good friends. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and layout. They converted a former DJ booth / stage into an open kitchen above the dining area. Opposite is the Rustic Pizza oven and kitchen. The bar is in the center, back wall of the room and from what I can tell, it would probably be best sitting at the bar. They did not appear to be rookies and the cocktails on the menu were tasty and got the job done. We tried a wide variety of dishes and cocktails. The service and atmosphere were exceptional. Tapas order: Sushi: Spicy Salmon Rolls, Gucci Cali Roll Nigiri: Bluefin Tuna (very good) Steam Buns: 2 orders of Pork buns Dumplings: 2 orders of Anju Pork (very good) Rustic Pizza: Confit Duck (exceptional) Classics: 10 Korean BBQ Wings Cocktails: Rock Lobster (it's the last cocktail in the list and it's not on the online menu. Red Lobster, Rock Lobster or something like that) - Crown Royal, Cranberry, some kind of a liquor. It was very good. Anju House Punch Spice and Stormy The drinks were very good. Small portions but big flavor and I had a manageable buzz after three drinks. The food portions were perfect. We split all dishes between four adults and we were all full. The sushi was okay and a good value. The dumplings were a table favorite as was the Confit Duck pizza. The pizza had shredded duck, cranberries, feta cheese, scallions, and olive oil. Found (and loved) Anju Above because we tried to return to Epiphany Farms for lunch (after loving the dinner the night before) but only Anju Above was open. It is run by the same awesome people, same farm-to-table approach, just different menu and a more casual style. We had their mac and cheese (delicious!), a salad (same as at Epiphany Farms - outstanding!!) with salmon (I asked it cooked rare and they made it beautifully rare, it was so delicious!) and cookies for dessert. Okay, these were THE BEST cookies I had ever had. Period. Loved it. If for nothing else, go to Anju Above for the cookies!! Thank you to Epiphany Farms for caring about the world (with their sustainable farming and farm-to-table approach) and for caring about the palates of their customers :) P.S. Forgot to mention, both Epiphany Farms and Anju Above filter their tap water which ends up tasting great!!! Why can't more places be like this? read more

It's sad when you give a store a second chance and they still blow it. I was really hoping for a better outcome. We decided to visit again on 1/23 to give Anju Above another chance. They forgot to make food for one of the people at the table. The waiter was nowhere to be found. The people at the table had reminded the person clearing the plates that one person was not severed her dinner. When the ramen was served the broth was room temperature and vegetables were way under cooked. As to not embarrass the person who would be eating alone, the table ordered donuts and coffee. When the waiter served coffee and donuts (which were very good) he left and never came back with cream and sugar for the coffee. We have never had this at any of the other Epiphany Farms Restaurants just Anju Above. Twice we have been to this restaurant and twice they have failed. I hope you can turn this around but it will be a long time before we re-visit Anju Above. On 12/2 - We were disappointed with Ajnu Above. We had difficulty making changes to our online reservation. Our dinners did not come out at the same time and the food was overly seasoned (salty), we were kept waiting for drinks and the appetizer (chicken wings) came out when we were done eating along with the dinner bill . The cost of the dining experience did not match the service or quality it should require. IMO there are other options are worth exploring in the downtown area. read more

With your eyes, this place is very classy and elegant. Given the pandemic, this place had plenty of staff, especially given the what appeared to be not-so-busy timeframe I was there. This leads me to the issues I witnessed: First- I only had water to drink and was asked 2 different times if I wanted more water (given I ordered some of their hottest items) and each time I said yes, but never got more water. I finished all the food and was out of water about 1/4 the way through. The waitress literally brought the bill(after running credit card) for me to sign and said, oh, you wanted more water, you still need that? Secondly, giving credit where credit is due, the food came farely fast and overall was 6/10. But, to be honest, I can say that about 2 points overall were lost when our food came with no silverware or napkins, cause we had to sit and wait till someone seen we lacked them and that wasn't even our waitress, then it took them about another 5 minutes to get those things to us and most our food lost its hottness. Finally, I, for the first time in a while, gave my lowest tip (even when I feel the serve is garbage) that I ever give of $5. Now, I hate tipping that amount, but, this time it was def. warranted to hopefully get their attention to improve. Gave this place a shot because it was 4.5 on here... Dunno that i'll return- but you should because im sure the same experience isnt always the case. read more

Underwhelmed at the Thai wings and the pizza. Light on toppings and pale cooking , bottom was super pale. Topping were a island in the middle of a crust. In town visiting some friends for the Memorial day weekend, and they couldn't wait to show us one of their favorite places to eat, and it did't not disappoint. Very unique restaurant on the top of another restaurant, everything is open kitchen so you can see them making your food, not only that but in almost every direction that you look. Sushi and dumplings to one side, pizza to the other, and drinks straight ahead, no need for TVs (they do have TVs but they are playing Kung Fu movies) with so many other things to look at. We started off with some great cocktails and then dived straight into the menu. Creative combinations for sushi, pizza and dumplings that I had never even thought of before. I wish I would have taken pictures of the menu and the food, but I was just so excited about everything and was so in the moment I plum forgot. Everything came out coursed so well that we never once felt overwhelmed, and we never had to worry about one selection getting cold while enjoying the other. We chose 2 different sushi rolls, the Farm to Face and the Gucci Cali, both were amazing but the Farm to Face was my favorite with the bacon in it. Had to get the wings which were big but crispy on the outside and had such a great flavor I didn't even need a ranch dipping sauce, I will say that the spicy garlic was true to its name and it was spicy. Lastly we ordered 2 pizzas the Thai Chicken Pizza and the Philly Cheese steak Pizza, wow I don't think we could have chosen better, the flavors were balanced and we kept bouncing back and forth between the pizzas because they were so good. I'm so disappointed by Anju Above. I have been here multiple times in the past and the food has been great with some of the best sushi and pizza in town. Ever since they removed the ability to reserve tables I feel that the food and service quality has gone completely downhill. Do NOT try to come here on a Friday or Saturday. You will be met with at least an hour and a half wait because you can no longer reserve a table. Because of this, our expectation of the food was much higher, but we were very disappointed. We ordered sushi and a pizza and both of us ordered a beer. The pizza came out burnt which our waitress tried to pass off as "caramelization". The sushi came out with non-existent sauce and fell apart immediately. The worst part was that our waitress disappeared and didn't bring our drinks until halfway through our meal. I really feel that no longer taking reservations has been the start of a slow decline where Anju Above no longer really cares about individual customers and has switched their focus to how to make $$$. I came here for drinks and dessert when I was in town with a coworker. Turk and Skyler were our bartenders and treated us SOOO well. They gave us drink and dessert recommendations, chatted with us and made us feel welcome at the restaurant. Anju has a very interesting vibe and I would totally be back to try their food. read more

Honestly, Anju is just okay. The cocktails are generally great. All of their food menu items sound and looks really good, but the flavors often fall flat or there is almost always something a little off. I like to have it as an option and I love what they are trying to do, but often end up more disappointed than delighted when I eat here. For example, last time I went, I got the margherita pizza The crust was great, but the cheese was all dried out and the basil pieces were burnt to a black crisp. Then I got yum yum buns, but the red curry flavor was non-existent and there were bones in the chicken (which, I understand. It happens). My partner got the Spicy Salmon roll, which was just a small bit of salmon and TONS of raw carrots, with tons of raw jalapenos piled on top. This is, again, fine, but it needed something else because it just tasted like raw carrots and jalapenos and after three pieces we just felt a lot of flavor fatigue. Again, I like Anju and think it is okay, I just wish it were better. I keep giving them another chance and keep leaving feeling "meh". I understand that not every dish will be a winner and there are sometimes mistakes, but I feel like the exception here is the excellent dish and there are some consistency issues. They have music literally blaring, I've asked about it and was told, oh, our diners like it, it's a young crowd here. Really? So we're supposed to literally YELL at our friends? Anju is a trendy farm to table restaurant that has dueling kitchens. One does pizza and other in foods and the other does sushi and other Asian inspired dishes. This is not an Asian restaurant the food using items from the farm ran by the Restaraunt team. The food is usually good though some things are better than others. I love the beet pizza and yuba. Some of the desserts are really good. For the vegetarian and vegan diners, the menu points out what items you can have which is very useful. The decor is fun and "trendy". But my favorite part is the cocktails. Some of the best in town. I recommend always asking what the Anju Punch is on the day because it's sometimes the best drink of all. One downfall and the main reason for 4 stars is the lack of reservations for parties under 7. They used to take them and then stopped with some annoying excuse. So I steer clear during peak hours. read more
