We love this place. Menu has great verity even though small. It sounds weird but a must try is the tofu donuts. Amazing. Light and airy and full of flavor. You would never guess you are eating tofu. Their sushi bowl was also amazing. We have had Korean dishes there that was just as good as the Korean restaurants we've been to. We recommend going! read more

Well, previously I will definitely gave this place 5 stars for the earlier experience, when I was so happy to find out a good ramen spot in Bloomington town. Of course, their handroll and pizza never made me disappointed until the last dinner. I don't know if because it was not the weekend night or because I just recently travelled back from San Fransisco ( food paradise, right), the ramen broth I got here was not rich and tasty as last time, and the pork is almost like half cooked, not able to chew at all. And the Nigiri, I have to say very disappointed, not fresh as handroll before. I guess I will continue visiting back, but not sure when that would be. This is still my favorite Asian food spot with Chicago contemporary dish style. Cool place to have a weekend or Friday drink. read more

This was a really great spot for dinner! I had dinner for one at the bar, so it probably would have been better if I was able to share a few dishes, but it was still good. The vegetable bowl was a little less flavorful than I would have liked, but it was good. The salmon hand rolls were really great. The bartender was attentive and friendly, and all of the food was really nicely presented as well. They have a pretty good drink list with beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. The atmosphere is really cool- low lighting, but decorative lights and decorations. They play loud, kind of clubby type music-- don't know if I like that or not?? But it works. Overall, I would definitely go back, but hopefully with other people next time! I love the fresh ingredients-- that's really important to me, and hard to find while traveling. read more

An Epiphany offering, Anju was the 2nd restaurant they opened after changing from Station 220 to Epiphany Farms. Anju is a more affordable and approachable stop, while Epiphany below is a more formal experience. Anju has an eclectic offering of pizza, sushi, and thai food. Anju Above is a really unique experience for the BloNo area. I had the pork buns. The filling was pretty good, but the dough for the buns was wonderful and sweet. I could've just ate that without the filling. We also had the diablo pizza. The pizza is the main reason Anju earns a 4 instead of 5 in my opinion. The pizza was listed as spicy, it was not unless you took a bite with jalapeño on it, which there weren't that many slices on it. Also, the pizza was a few minutes underdone, which made it droopy and lacking a good crust in the middle. The last thing I tried were the Korean BBQ wings, which were amazing. I definitely recommend the wings. Overall, the vibe is trendy, and the open kitchens are neat to see. The space is large, but music is loud, which makes the entire place seem loud, even if it is not crowded. I recommend giving it a try. read more

It's a nice place, and the quality of the ingredients is clearly high. But... We started with Pork Buns. They were OK. All of our food came out at separate times. OK. Our daughter had the "pick 2"... Spicy Salmon roll and Grain bowl. Spicy Salmon roll was salty. Grain bowl wasn't great. Then my food came. Fish bowl. Not bad. Then my wife's ramen arrived. It looked great! But the noodles were totally over cooked and smelled strange. And the broth had one flavor - salty. And the vegetables were hard. Highly recommend! What a combination of novelty, pleasant experience, and a treat for your tongue and stomach! Each and every time, I enjoyed the food, service, creativity, and atmosphere. The place is a American-Korean fusion, with some renovated Korean and Asian dishes. I really love that they change the menu seasonally, and constantly try to bring out new ideas to their dishes. All the ingredients are so fresh! And they made pizzas from the scratch! I highly recommend their pizzas, dessert, steam buns and Korean dishes! I'm not a big fan of the sushi though. Excellent place! We were on the fence about an early dinner, and decided this was the place to eat because of the variety of food available on the menu. (A family of 5 and 1 guest, all had different tastes for food) our waitress, Elizabeth is so friendly and bubbly! She had great knowledge of the menu, and was very diligent in making sure our dining experience was above excellent. We had the Korean BBQ wings, several sushi rolls, pork dumplings, a pizza, pork belly ramen, and for dessert, we had the Silken Tofu Doughnuts!!! Definitely do not skip these! I had dinner with my friends at Anju Above last Saturday and it was excellent. This restaurant is the perfect place for a girls night out from the decor to the food. To start, I had the Pork Steam Buns which were amazing! I will certainly order this dish every time I come back. The plates are small, so I am happy to order multiple things. Next I had the Tuscan Kale Salad. It was very good. I wish there was the option to add chicken, but regardless, it is a good choice. For dessert, we had the Tofu Donuts, which sounded weird to me because I've never had Tofu before. I was really impressed however at how great they tasted. They must have been made fresh because they came out warm and I loved them. Anju Above will certainly be a regular dinner spot for me moving forward. read more

By far my favorite place to eat out when I attended Illinois Wesleyan. To be honest, I really miss having a unique restaurant like Anju Above. Sushi and Pizza. Probably the best chicken pesto pizza I think I've ever had. I'm in heaven every time. Not to mention just about everything on the menu is delicious. Anju gives you the opportunity to have a new dining experience with every meal. I believe the restaurant was decorated by my old art director at Wesleyan. Mr. Strandberg added some attractive touches to the rather interesting layout. Honorable mention: The korean BBQ wings. The breading must be fried in a super hot burning peanut oil and emulates the crisp of a wonton. But the sauce...finger licken finger licken finger licken good. The shrimp was likely imported weeks ago, the crab is non-exestant, except possibly on the molecular level. This is a very solid 4 and among the better restaurants in Blo-No. Epiphany on the ground floor is an excellent restaurant in its own right, but don't be afraid to venture upstairs and check out Anju. The space is pretty warm and inviting. The concept is Asian fusion/Korean/comfort food. The service was a bit slow at times. I understand the small plates come-as-it's-ready concept. But sometimes you end up waiting too long between courses. It seems like they don't have enough kitchen space to accommodate more than 80% seated capacity. The food ranged from so-so to "order two more" exceptionally good. Here's a little survey of what I've tried: Octopus salad -good balance of flavors with a nice sweet dressing (yuzu maybe?) Dumplings--perfectly steamed, almost al dente texture, deep rich pork flavor. You will want more of these. Nigiri-fell apart, eel was nicely cooked, raw fish were fresh and nicely cut. Wings-could be crispier (I imagined like Korean fried chicken when ordering), but the sauces were excellent. Miso buffalo was bomb and the Korean bbq made my company debate licking the plate. Sushi-good flavor balance and variety of rolls, poor construction. Same issue as with nigiri. Maybe they aren't cooking the rice right? Pizza-perfectly crispy crust, too much arugula on top (borderline salad like). They have gluten-free crust too if that's your thing (not mine haha, but some family and friends need that) Kim chi was pretty good, but a little mushy and not as "shrimpy" as I like it. The desserts were hit or miss. Pound cake was kinda bad, but again nice to have gluten free options. The silken tofu donut was so unique and delicious. Interesting mix of textures. Oh so good! I don't eat sushi but the hubs does and he had the Nigiri and a hand roll as well as the pork dumplings. I got the pretzel bites and the margarita pizza. He loved his and ate every bite. My pizza was super flavorful and yummy. I will probably not get the pretzel bits again but they were good. Just too filling! The atmosphere is neat. Definitely not a typical central Illinois place. Neatly modern with a classic look, if that makes any sense. We will definitely be back. read more

We have tried this place a couple of times with fair results both times. Not in a hurry to go back because of the frantic pace at which they seemed to operate both times. Prefer sashimi over all the gigantic rolls aimed at people who really dont appreciate the simplicity of Japanese food. Same goes for TexMex American Style by the way. Sashimi is a premium slice of fish...they hide all the odd bits and pieces of fish in those gigantic monstracities with 10 ingredients...yuk. Sashimi here was not top quality altho they charge top quality prices. Cant hide the quality when the fish is the star of the show. With all that said its not a Japanese sushi place anyway...more of Asian fusion meets Italian. Kinda works even with all the attitude at the hostess station...even with a reservation both times we had to wait for our table with a 530 res on a Friday night. But OMFG what is with all the beards on all the waiters...gross. Shouldnt they wear masks if they want to have facial hair down below the collar of their shirt? Wonderful atmosphere, and for an Asian fusion type place, the pizza is really good! White Oak beers are a treat (always fantastic!). The sushi is my favorite in town, and don't let the name fool you -- the tofu donuts are a perfect indulgent dessert! For non-beer drink options, I recommend the Moscow mule; they offer non-vodka-based versions (like a Kentucky mule) but the Moscow is a classic for a reason. read more

Very, very good! Been here many times & have never been disappointed. All time favorite: Pork belly ramen. Trust me (and everyone else); just get it. The sushi is always high quality & very tasty. Steam buns & dumplings are always good. Pizza - Neapolitan style w/ interesting combinations. Only downside: wait staff is hit or miss, which can make or break it for some, but realistically can take the experience from good to great (or vice versa). read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. It's so unique and delicious. It's also very reasonably priced. We do end up spending about $70, including tip, but that's only because we have a hard time deciding what we want to eat, so we get a little of everything! I gave it 4 stars because the last few times we've been there we got a few items to go. Every time we informed our server we were planning on placing a to go order and we always seem to be waiting at least 20 minutes or they completely forget about it. This place is amazing! The ambiance is very nice. We were there for a wedding and everything was Delicious. The staff set up an appetizer area with the most amazing guacamole you will ever taste. They also had these chicken fingers that had just the right amount of crunch. The bartenders were also great. I ordered a mojito and after i finished it it made me think I could dance like one of Beyonce's back up dancers. Everyone was really friendly.
