Ann Arbor 20 IMAX took over for its awesome predecessor, Rave Cinemas. I personally really hate the makeover they did to the place because they made the atrium area feel way smaller than it used to. Rave Cinemas used to feel super grand walking in and now Ann Arbor 20 IMAX sort of feels very enclosed. I believe this is owned by Cinemark, a national chain. Everything here is okay, but their concession prices are astronomical. I only recently came here because they were showing a 4D movie and were one of the few that were showing it in this format, that's when it's in both 3D plus your chair moves along with it. I really enjoyed the experience because they have movement chairs that also RECLINE! All the movement chairs I had tried up until this point were small, rocking chairs. So I'm excited for this new development in the 4D space and can't wait for it to catch on at other theaters that also have movement chairs so I can stop driving this far out to AA to experience this! read more

Booked a movie with the app & was charged 4 times for 2 seats. No email confirmation. Called them, was told to contest my credit card, they cannot refund. Would rather go to emagine in saline, much better service. I will no longer patronize this theatre. read more

When I pay to see a movie, I don't pay to hear other patrons talking during the whole movie and hitting their wax pens. Bathrooms are dirty too. Also what is the point of having security if all the do is stand in the lobby and stare at customers, and not checking theaters. read more

THE SOUND IS AWFUL, DETRACTS FROM EXPERIENCE. This is the closest IMAX theater to my home, and it is about 1 hour away. I have now seen three big "sound" movies here, Dune 2 and Furiosa on IMAX, and Tron:Ares on regular screen. The sound has been crap on all three, if you like the treble turned all the way up, and bass completely off, you have found your theater. When I see a big Dune 2 style movie (especially in IMAX) I want to feel the bass and be wowed by the sound. I just left Tron:Ares in 3d, a movie heavily marketed on its soundtrack and it was garbage. My father and I were the only ones in the theater, so I went and asked them to please fix the sound and turn up the bass, to no avail. I saw Tron at a different theater (Levis Commons in Perrysburg, OH) and it was a fantastic experience. I don't write reviews for anything, but this all irritated me to the point of doing so. So, in closing, if you value the 50% of a movie that is auditory, this place is garbage and I'm almost certainly not going back. read more

Always loved Cinemark wherever I was able to watch a movie at one. I typically only go on discount Tuesdays. The theater's parking lot was very spacious even with lots of people, there were still many spaces available. The inside of the theatre was clean and well designed. The concession stand was split between self-serve drinks and everything else. The seats were nice and clean and even had trays you could use to eat on or put your personal items on. I enjoyed my experience at this particular Cinemark. read more

Due to the heavy pedestrian traffic in Ann Arbor, I had arrived 10 minutes after the schedule start and the trailers had started. Some of these trailers were being shown in 2019, so I was not missing out. I had hoped the movie would be starting in 5 minutes. By the time it had started, the cinema had shown 27 minutes of ads and trailers. During the next 2 hours and 15 minutes, I had to contend with half dozen customers who were not content on just watching the movie. They made a lot of commotion taking to each other, leaving and returning to their seats, taking photos of the screen, etc. At one point, someone had dropped their phone underneath the seat and the others used theirs to shine a light to find it. That commotion was the final draw for a a couple who move to the other side of the row. If corporate wants to know why folks are skipping out on the movie theater-going experience, this is the reason. If I had a chance to see a major blockbuster movie at Cinemark or at home, I have to ask myself would I want be held hostage to 30 minutes of ads and trailers? If a movie is scheduled to start at 3:50 PM, at what time would the final credits be shown so I can watch the post-credit scene? Would I have to deal with customers who forgot how to sit and be quiet during the pandemic? read more

I know movies have gone up in price, and we don't pay NY prices here, but still, $29 for two tickets and a popcorn is a prime example of why Netflix is so appealing and popular. This was often our second go to theater because it was one of the last ones without the oversized recliners. They also have never been super-crowded (smaller seats=more seating). The last time we were here they were transitioning to be seats. The transition is complete. We just don't like the giant reclining seats. Also, if we have to attend a movie at a theater with these seats because of movie times, we prefer one where the leg and seat back controls are separate because I don't like to have my legs raised very high. Unfortunately, in this theater, I can't even recline my seat back at all until I've fully raised the leg bar. This position sometimes puts me to sleep, but it's uncomfortable having my legs raised a bunch with the seat back completely upright, so I'm forced to leave the whole thing in the regular position, or come close to fully reclining it. Enough complaints about the seats. I'm sure you get the point. I would give a 3 1/2 rating, but it's not an option, and I can't give a 4. Service here is hit or miss. The ticket counter was run well on this visit, however, our popcorn was full of itty bitty pieces you can't pick up in the bottom of the of the tub, and it took the one cashier ringing concessions a long time to ring 3 guests. Then, when we got into the theater, did I mention the seats . . . In addition, this place seems to attract a younger crowd that is louder during the show and some are rude enough to play on their phones, making everyone near them have to deal with the glow cast from their screens. This time we even had a kid two rows back throwing popcorn into our row. Like I suggested, Netflix is popular for a reason. read more

We wanted to go see The Black Panther. Since we were going to meet up with friends at a nearby Korean BBQ joint. We decided to watch it here so were at striking distance whenever the team is near assembly. Use to be some other theatre before, I forgot which one it was, but now it's been bought up by Cinemark and been fluffed and buffed. Same as all the Cinemarks, everywhere, they have the recliner seats everybody loves so much. The theatre is pretty clean, it was definitely pretty busy when we went. Tons of people buzzing around watching movies and such. It's clean, it's well lit and the employees are really nice. Not a bad experience during our cinematic adventure. This is such a comfortable theater. Looking for large seats that recline with plenty of room for drinks and snacks? A theater right off the freeway? You've come to the right spot. The tickets are priced as expected similar to other theaters, but you're certainly getting a very comfortable and luxurious experience. We bought our tickets in advance, which added more fees, but we were able to choose excellent seats for a movie that was packed. This theater has gotten MUCH better since they installed the reclining seats! It had all the other advantages before, like multiple concession stands, 20 screens, huge parking lot, etc. I just preferred other theaters with the more comfortable reclining seats. But, now that AA 20 is caught up with other theaters in the area, it has gotten much better! I went twice during the week of Christmas and it was packed but the staff did a great job of making sure the theaters were cleaned in between shows. Also, if you buy your tickets ahead of time on Fandango, you can read the confirmation number to the ticket attendant by the theater doors. They will print the tickets for you as they usher you inside and it saves you from waiting in a super long ticket line! read more

I scheduled a movie date with my girlfriend to watch a movie and eat some popcorn. We bought our tickets online and went through the line to buy snacks, our service so far was decent. As soon as we went to scan our tickets we were met with the most unpleasant rude service employee I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. After watching 3 commercials an older lady (around forty years old) escorted us out of the theater and told us our kind wasn't welcome here. When we asked her what she meant she said and I quote," we don't like to serve your kind" which I can only assume means the queer community. This has seriously ruined our movie theater experience and we will never be returning. read more

I like to watch movies but the service there is not nice. my last visit was Indiana Jones and of course we always wait until the last credits shows expecting a little short of after movie we love that., we know if the light is not on the after movie short comes and of course that happened but the employees who have to clean the theater came before and turned the light on before and ruined the moment. After been in dark it's really uncomfortable if someone turns the light mostly if you have a child with autism. It's a lack of respect and no sense of considering customers. UPDATE: While everything is nice about this theater, almost every movie I have seen here within the past year has been ruined by other movie goers. I mean. We had people talking during Avengers Endgame the entire time and someone kept kicking the back of my chair in the IMAX room which is not luxurious recliners. Not bad for a cheap theater and concessions are nice, but who wants to constantly hear other moviegoers during the movie? Its bad. After I just paid nearly 50$ for everything the last thing I need is to have to go find a manager in the middle of my movie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Always liked this theater when I'm in Ann Arbor, where else can I watch a movie while drinking a Starbucks Coffee Frappuccino? And now they have recliner chairs AND a mini swivel table? Ok. So maybe it's not as comfy or as roomy as Emagine's recliners but it's worth the visit. They have a ton of parking, with lots of handicap spaces...one of the only theaters that I can easily find an open handicap spot when needed for a wheelchair. This is a pretty decent theatre and it was clean too. The only complaint is the price of the snacks, but they are not that far above any other main theatre. The seats were comfortable! The volume of the movie was appropriate. I would go back here for sure. read more

I don't know why some poor reviews here because this place is the bomb!! First all seats are recliner seats and you pick your seats ahead of time when purchasing so if you are running late ( in time for the movie but missing the long ass trailer ) you know you have time to get your snacks and still have your seats and not looking for that perfect seat. I love the self service concession area. A little disoriented for me at first so it would be nice if there's sign yo let us know what we should do but it is efficient once you know what's up. I like the clean and excellent seating and tbh the price is great! I paid $11 for adult and my son the student is $8 and my little one who is 8 paid $7.50. I like it and I enjoy every min of it. I think all movie theater should ha e these type of seating in order to compete with Netflix. read more

Went tonight and saw Countdown. Or at least tried to. Regardless, there were multiple groups making loud noise in our theater. Security came and gave multiple warnings but they did nothing after that. It was very frustrating trying to watch the movie while multiple people were screaming across the theater to each other, or playing in their phones with full brightness and volume. I've even here before to see IT chapter 2 when it came out, and that experience was shit but at least more tolerable shit. Could barely hear or understand countdown because of these patrons. I have been to this theater numerous times as it is close to my residence. It has plenty of parking in the front and back. I always notice how interesting and different the Concession stand is compared to other locations. You first get your tickets and than go through the concession area. First you get your popcorn from the attendant and you can grab a self serve Hot dog, Chips and dip which are already prepared. You than grab your drink and candy if you wish. You pay for the selected items at the end of the end of the Concession assembly line. On this day the Popcorn waitstaff were not too attentive. They decided to ignore me while they did there duties for about 5 minutes. The theater seating are comfortable, however, on this particular day there was some type of mechanical issue with the film. There was sound but no visual. This was taken care of quickly. Overall this is a great theater to see a movie. read more

There were nearly 45 minutes of "noovie" ads and commercials AFTER the start time of the movie. After trailers the movie didn't even start until nearly an hour after stated time. This is completely unreasonable and a complete disrespect for your patrons time. I will never return and I will actively tell people to watch movies elsewhere. Do not waste your time! read more

I've frequented this location through every owner (showcase, rave and now cinemark) and it's by far my favorite theater in the area. The imax theaters are huge and every theater is updated with large comfy seating the large parking lots ensure you'll always find a spot. They have a great email program to get free food with purchase (free popcorn with drinks, etc) and even have an app to earn rewards while you watch movies. That def offsets the free refills they stopped. The most recent remodel makes what was simple much more confusing in my opinion. I came in for the back to the future marathon and walked in the concessions area to be yelled at by a security guard. Yes yelled at. If that was my only visit I would have gave this place one star, I didn't pay to be harassed by a theater wannabe cop. But all my other visits show it was a one time thing, management walks the floor and asks how your show was and thanks you for coming and the other employees are always in a good pleasant mood. read more

This place is a nightmare. Comically overpriced food and tickets, coupled with terrible service from the managers who watch over all customers like hawks. Maybe, JUST maybe, if you're going to have such a strict refill policy that requires you to physically take the cup out of a customer's hand who's refilling without buying a whole new cup, you shouldn't have made your concessions self-serve. Beyond just the customers being treated like garbage, it's clear the employees on the floor hate their jobs and every underpaid minute they stand lifelessly behind their service computers. They're being treated terribly, so they very understandably won't be treating the frustrated, overpaying customers with very much joy. This place is a dumpster fire, I'd give zero stars if I could. No amount of member rewards or reclining seats could salvage this place. Go anywhere else. read more

Love the new seats but the entire experience was diminished because for whatever reason they allowed a family to take a baby into an action movie and instead of leaving when the baby continued to cry throughout the movie they just stood at the bottom of the seats. The baby clearly wasn't happy and neither were the rest of the audience. Why would anyone bring a baby to a movie is beyond explanation but I would have thought the ticket sellers and takers would have realized this wasn't a good idea and would have told them they couldn't take an infant into a theatre..... would have enjoyed the movie much more without the cries throughout the film! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The food is over priced for low grade quality. The tickets are more expensive than any other cinema around and the staff is rude and disrespectful. The manager named Jeremy was discriminate towards me as a handicap when I was late to bring my daughter for a job interview and then denied my daughter of 17 years old an opportunity to even have an interview because of past employees actions. If this establishment supports discrimination against handicaps and is discriminate against kids without accepting and respecting each person as an individual, then they have lost my business and any other partner business. Absolutely the worst theater I have ever been to. Didn't make it to the movie after being appalled by the complete lack of costumer service. The cashier was rude to me, glared at my children, and flirted with my husband. My husband is a war veteran who served for our country for many years, and deserves better. We are a Christian family that follows God's word, and I am personally affronted that anyone would perpetuate the sin of adultery in front of CHILDREN. I will not return until this woman is fired. Take your Christian kids to Quality 16 instead. read more

Went to see an R rated movie (we are 21) and were asked for our IDs. I gave the clerk mine and then realized that my girlfriend (also 21) did not have hers since she did not drive but she was able to produce her college ID. The clerk then became snippy and rude saying that the college ID didn't prove anything because she had a 17 year old son who was duel enrolled at a local university. I then reminded her that 17 year olds are in fact able to see R rated movies to which she told us to leave the theater immediately and to stop telling her how to do her job. Rude staff, uninviting environment. Go to Quality 16 in Ann Arbor, it is a MUCH better theater in all categories. read more

Worst movie going experience ever! And if I didn't want to see the movie so bad I would have asked for my money back. First, the area where you buy the tickets is now super cramped where there is a ton of open area in that lobby that is no filled up but the enormous concession stand. Then went to get popcorn but apparently went to the wrong register, because that one only does gelato crap (might I add not posted that they only do that). Got in another line for popcorn (those employees..all the employees were nice). Then got in another line to pay for our large drink and popcorn, which always come with free refills. (Every other movie theater does at least one free refill and large stuff). Get into the movie. They have those "luxury" seats that rock. Too bad they set them up for people 6" and taller. Did you know that the average woman in America is between the height of 5'2" and 5'4", not to mention kids. Now more than half your movie going population is uncomfortable. My legs went to sleep 20 minutes. I ended up having a spasm an hour in and accidently kicked the lady in front of me. And of course the kids behind me couldn't reach either so I got kicked a lot and thanks to the nice rocking chairs in which I could not get stable...well lets just say it SUCKED!!! And then we go out to get our free refills and apparently only popcorn is free. Drinks you have to pay for. $6.50!!!!!!! It costs the company what $0.25 for that cup and the drink and ice inside and you can't give a free refill. REALLY!!??!?!?! To say the least we dumped the drink and will no longer be spending our money at the now piece of s**t hole that Cinemark created.
