Almost a year ago, my daughter fainted at school and was later diagnosed with a genetic heart condition. It was terrifying. The hardest part was hearing that her only options were lifelong medication (with some scary side effects) and just "waiting" to see if she had another breakthrough episode while on the medication. I worked with Sarah at Ann Arbor Holistic Health for six months. She was kind and seemed genuinely caring, but unfortunately, the support I received didn't help resolve my health issues. Most of the diets and supplements she recommended provided little to no relief, and she mentioned consulting with colleagues--none of whom had any insight or suggestions. After a year and a half of suffering, I finally discovered the root cause of my health issues, and it was completely different from the direction Sarah had been pursuing. I'm relieved to have found answers, but disappointed that the care I received here ultimately didn't come close to solving my issues, even though I paid thousands of dollars and was assured from the start that Ann Arbor Holistic Health would help me. I came to Gary earlier this year to get help with multiple symptoms (acne, bloating, anxiety) that I perceived were all linked to my gut health. I filled out paperwork beforehand and the first meeting with him was completely free. Afterwards, I did have to make the decision to pay for a specific plan in order to move forward, however I feel as though it was not overly expensive for the services and advice he was able to provide me. For my specific experience, I had to take a blood test as well as a stool test which were not included in the plan, but I felt were necessary to get the most targeted help. Through the process, Gary really helped me get a better perspective on the inner workings of my body and made me realize how much of my own health was in my control. Overall, I have become more confident and happy. I actually recently moved out of the state and it has been almost 3 months since I stopped seeing Gary in office. Due to changes in environment and just not as strict dieting, I felt as though I had a relapse in some of my issues. I reached out to Gary and he was more than happy to provide me with advice as well as a plan and supplements to get back in control of my body. I had an absolutely terrible experience. Paid 6k in full to the business but I disliked how Gary treated me as a patient so much that I left his services without a refund. The practice felt disorganized in that patients are responsible for carrying a hard copy of their own chart and medical information, but I never saw Gary with his own copy of my chart at the office. Visits felt rushed and impersonal. Gary would get visibly upset at me if I could not follow through with his diet plans. We were never offered a refund. I do not recommend this practice. read more

After 10 years of trying to find relief for chronic nausea, bloating, and stomach pain, I finally found my way to Ann Arbor Holistic. This was after 3 endoscopies and countless other conventional medical procedures looking for stomach ulcers that weren't there. I was prescribed stomach acid suppressants like Prilosec and Nexium, but nothing worked. The only thing that gave me any relief was Pepto Bismol, but I was taking it almost every night and it was becoming less and less effective. My expert at Ann Arbor Holistic (Jeremy Warden) put me on a restricted elimination diet for a few months and we ended up identifying a few things to avoid (lactose). He also recommended customized dietary supplements based on a bacterial imbalance in my stomach. We did a zoom session every 2 weeks to make sure everything was on track and to refine the diet and the supplements. I'm very happy to report that my stomach problems have been almost completely eliminated. I'm now reintroducing most of food I avoided during the elimination phase of the diet. I highly recommend Ann Arbor Holistic to anyone struggling with chronic stomach pain. read more

It's $90 for the first meeting, which owner Gary Merel promoted as being discounted from like ~ $150. Before arrival of the first meeting, he hands-out some get-to-know-you health forms / questionnaires and requires they be filled-in prior to arrival. Upon arrival he takes them in order to immediately review the contents / the Q & A. After about 5 minutes of reviewing them independently, he invites-in the patient to his room to discuss the answers to these forms, the prospective patient's overall health condition, what's been done the past, what he thinks he needs to do. All that takes about 10 minutes, from beginning to end. He then slams the patient with the decision of continuing: Pay $6,000 for a number of medical tests at a hospital that thoroughly check on every aspect of health, or leave the office at once. Gary Merel seems to be a caring and knowledgeable health advocate and professional. I don't doubt it that he will do great services for his patients, for those who need / could find useful those medical tests. Personally I declined because it was too much $. Simply, I don't need it, and I don't want it for the amount of money that's required to be paid. But if I would have known I would be crushed with a $6,000 question 10 minutes into my first meeting with him, never would I have paid $90 to even go to it. read more

I would give this place a zero if facebook reviews allowed. While the initial meeting with Gary was pleasant I was suspicious of his abilities and understanding of nutrition and health right off the bat (the books on his shelf indicated that he was not into science based nutrition and health). We heard him out and my wife was convinced he could help her with a health issue so I went along with it as my wife seemed convinced that this snake oil salesman could help her. Plus there was a lot of pressure to commit to an over $5000 program (with no guaranty that his services would have any impact). He basically threw a guilt trip line out that when husbands that accompany sick wives come to him and question his services it showed they don't care about them and their "healing". Then there was the fact that he seemed to prey on my wife's stressed out condition caused by her illness. So after the appointment my wife and I discussed things and decided that we would not be using Gary's services. The following day she contacted him to let him know that we had changed our minds. He assured her that the almost $2000 dollars she had paid as a down payment would be refunded contingent on receiving the test kit he had given us at our meeting. As we live about 45 minutes from Ann Arbor my wife mailed in this kit and many weeks later received her refund minus $400 dollars for the unused kit that contained sealed items and envelopes. So we were charged $400 by this unethical person for an unused testing kit that was returned, which he claimed was tainted (despite him being the one that would have contaminated it when he opened it in his office). Despite this bad experience I am not turned off to holistic healing as I do believe there is validity in it, but I would never recommend going to this place. Gary has very bad business practices, preys on the sick, and twice after our initial meeting he had the opportunity to be transparent and inform us that he would be keeping the $400 for the unused testing kit. He failed to do that and instead decided to send a check minus the funds. During our initial meeting he never disclosed that he would withhold so much as a dollar if we decided not to use his services when the topic was brought up with him. So I recommend to all reading this to stay away from here at all costs. read more
