I've only been here once. When I was there, there was a long line, which I thought could be a good sign. I watched her interact with a lady in front of me- telling her the dress wasn't her size and pointing out places where she was too big for the dress. This woman (probably in her 60s) looked gorgeous and told Anna multiple times the dress was her size and she couldn't return it. Anna's comments about her body and the dress were not very kind. When it was my turn I showed her the dress which I wanted taken in just a little and she said she wouldn't because that was the way the dress was supposed to be. I was sad I waited in line. The next tailor I went to quickly understood what I wanted and gave me a couple of other tips for how to make the dress work better for my body type as well. I won't be back here. read more

Anna altered my prom dresses both years I attended prom, and I cannot say enough good things about her. Whether anything needs hemming, straps adjusted, etc. Anna can do it all, and quickly, too - even on short notice. My dresses were done in a matter of days and always as scheduled. Not only that, but she's incredibly kind - even complimenting my dresses, affordable, and worth every penny. She's hidden in Ellicott City right off of 40, but absolutely worth it. I only feel compelled to write 5 star yelp reviews when I'm genuinely impressed and thankful for a business. Anna deserves every star. My wedding dress was too big on me in every dimension, and needed a bustle. It's also strapless and as a smaller chested girl I was worried it wouldn't stay up. Anna did a perfect job and charged me less than HALF what other tailors quoted. This dress has 6+ layers of tulle with delicate three dimensional flowers hand stitched on. Anna said "no big deal" and finished the job on time, and only needed to check my measurements once. She added silicone rubber banding in addition to taking in the bust to ensure my dress stayed up, which it did, the entire night. She also added a bustle which was so well hidden it took practice to learn to put up, but it looked great. Last minute I added a white faux fur shawl that she made adjustments to as well. Zero complaints and endless gratitude, I highly recommend this business. read more

I had a great experience here and left a 5 star review a few years ago. Unfortunately I can't say the same of my recent visit. I took my daughter here to get a few of her clothes tailored, and the lady at the front was so rude and nasty to us, including body shaming my daughter, she made her cry. I highly recommend Anna for all your tailoring needs! She altered my wedding dress, my maid of honor's skirt, and my mother's dress. Her prices were much more affordable than I was expecting. For my dress, she hemmed the bottom, shortened the straps, and added a modesty panel in the front. She had the idea to use the extra beads for my dress on the modesty panel to make it look like it was part of the original design. She also helped me find the right train length so it would look nice in pictures, but was short enough to dance without bustling it. She was very flexible about the timing of my fittings, since I originally dropped off my dress just before the COVID quarantine began. Anna altered my bridesmaid's gown and did an exquisite job. The gown had some flaws that she pointed out and I didn't even notice (i.e., the lace straps didn't sit flat against my shoulder blades). The dress also had pleats on the bodice that I thought might make it a challenge to take in, but she was able to take in the dress flawlessly. She also added a little loop to my train, which was an absolutely genius idea and made it so much easier to walk and dance in all night long. Ann, the owner was nice. We went in May for alterations which was also prom month. Been out of high school for some time so I completely forgot about Prom. She was busy but the wait wasn't bad. I overheard her talking to another customer, it's a small shop and the room with mirrors is also the waiting area, so it was hard not to hear. But she was telling the customer her honest opinion that certain spots didn't need alterations (customer thought it did) and that certain spots do in order to look or feel better. So she does give her honest opinion and isn't just going to go with every request a customer makes in order to get more $$. I think that it's wonderful that she gives honest input because a seamstress will know better than a client who just wants things a certain way without knowing what needs to be done. My boyfriend got his suit altered. The pants were hemmed nicely and the jacket was tucked in more. She showed us a folded area under the neck portion of the back of the blazer that we didn't realize wasn't suppose to look like that. She said it needs to look smooth and fitting so we went with her suggestion and had that sewed in as well. Since she had to basically take off the top collar of the blazer it costed more but I think it was still a decent price overall. We spent $70-$80 total for pants and jacket, I don't remember exact pricing. And even in prom week she got it done in a week!! Highly recommend her! read more

My sister and I had the WORST experience and treatment from Anna's Custom Tailor Shop ending in tears. My sister just wanted to get her prom dress hemmed, instead the woman slut and body shamed my sister and told her that she should get another dress altogether because she looked too "promiscuous." We didn't come to a tailor for your opinion, we came for a service. We took our business to "Towne Square Cleaners and Tailoring" in Marriottsville where they treated her with value, dignity, and respect. I ordered a very formal dress for a New Year's Eve party but it was about 4 inches too long. I was a little worried because I got the dress a week and a half before the party but thankfully I found this place. I walked in and they saw me immediately and assured me the dress would be done in time. It took less than 5 minutes for them to take the measurements. When I picked it up it was absolutely perfect. The length was exactly what I needed and the price was super reasonable. Definitely come here if you need hemming. read more

I can't sew. Not a button, not a stitch. It's pathetic, really. Anna, however, is a whiz. I take all my fancy-schmancy things to her. Gowns that need hemming despite my wicked-high stripper heels. I take all my quotidian wear to her as well. Pants with fraying cuffs and yes, missing buttons. I think her prices are good but honestly, I don't even know. All I know is it's worth it to me to pay whatever she asks because the work is immaculate and sturdy. read more

She's pretty good. Offers her own opinions on how to alter your clothing, so you don't need to walk in with a plan. She's open to hearing amendments to her plan of course, but I haven't needed to make them. My jacket had the waist taken in and there was no sign of alteration once I got it back, so I was fairly happy. Quick job too. My wife bought a secondhand wedding dress and needed to get the bottom hemmed. We worried this wouldn't be possible because it was lace. Anna was great! I wouldn't have known anything was worked on if I was just seeing it for the first time. Now, she doesn't rush anything; Anna takes great pride and care with her work. I'm glad we asked for help a month before the wedding; it took her between two and three weeks to make sure the task was done right (while still taking care of other customers too). Ms. Anna has been our custom tailor for so many years that I cannot remember going to anyone else! She has such skill and talent, absolutely amazing. She has taken dresses for my wife and daughter and magically transformed them into pieces of art. When you try on clothing, you can see her eyes as they deliberate and create. Anna is fantastic. Full disclosure, I have not had anything 'altered or tailored' in the true sense of the words, yet. The first time I visited, I had a mixed fabric dress. There was a In was a fairly thick band in between the two different fabrics, which made zipping really difficult. I came to Anna's to see if I'd need to get the band replaced, expanded, etc. I put the dress on and Anna showed me a trick to zipping the dress, despite the worrisome band. 5 stars! My next visit was to get a belt loop sewn on a lined suede jacket I have had for years. I expected to drop it off and pick up a week or so later. Anna asked me to wait, and 3-5 minutes later she returned, jacket in hand and no charge. Well, I absolutely was going to at least tip her, which I did and I will bring EVERYTHING I can think of to this shop and this wonderful lady! read more

Went to pick up my dress and the straps were still too long and loose. I had to safety pin them to shorten them further. I wish the dress was hemmed shorter as well.
