My friend wanted to see if my wife and I were interested in going dinner with him and his wife. We decided to go to his favorite restaurant! When you walk in you can see everyone enjoying their food and having a good time with friends or family. You place your order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table. My wife and I decided to share a 2 piece Samosa plate. I ordered the Cheese Plain Dosa and my wife ordered the Masala Dosa. The Masala Dosa is rice and lentil crepe filled with spiced potatoes and onions. I tried some and it was delicious and made for 2 people. My plain cheese dosa is a rice and lentil crepe with melted cheese. This is great and grilled nicely. I loved it and it's also large enough to share but did I? While I appreciate the quick service and affordability, the food quality left a lot to be desired. It was counter service only, but for the prices, fantastic. Note: their paper menus are out of date so the items cost more than on the menu. I always attempt to write for vegans/vegetarians/omnivores. However this restaurant is strictly vegetarian but their food is delicious. My husband eats meat and loved the food. Meat-eaters do not need meat at EVERY SINGLE meal, at least I hope. My husband tried to order the masala paper dosai off of the outdated paper menu and they only offered a regular masala dosai. It sure looked like and tasted like a paper dosai to us! I ate about a quarter of his lunch, so he was left a bit hungry. It was just so good! I ordered rice, and rasam off the paper menu. Well, they no longer offer rasam. So I ordered rice, sambar and papadam. Also delicious! The counter order-takets were so very nice. The restaurant was nothing fancy, no booths even, but it was fine. It is indeed all you can eat; however, the dosa they bring out is lightly filled as in there is a ton of dosa and very little potato. I used to love AnnaPurna, but I think they have a new chef or something, but the food isn't as good anymore. We ordered the mirchi bhajia, and it's completely different than before. The peppers just do not taste nice. The pav bhaji is average, and the dabeli is surprisingly sour. I've never had a dabeli that is sour!! The vada pav was much better and probably the best thing in the order, but that's not saying much. Lastly, the fafda with kadhi was inedible. The kadhi was cold and clumpy and the fafda was premade and not freshly made. For how much you are paying, it is not worth getting it here. We went to Annapurna today for a birthday celebration. We've been there before and knew it is a big spot for us which was a group of 11. We got there at noon, and found seating right away. We ordered food and it came out within 10 minutes. The service was very quick and friendly. They messed up my sister in laws order a couple of time (adding sweet chutney when she asked for none) but they were nice about fixing it. We loved the hot sambhar. We ordered several dosas (Mysore masala) and they were piping hot and delicious! The sambhar was amazing as well. I didn't get any chutneys with my order which was a little sad but I didn't mind. My brother also ordered vada pav which came perfectly seasoned and the perfect slider size. Honestly we will probably go back in the future because this spot is perfect for a quick meal that is very filling and delicious. This is a great place for Indian Veg. Man, I can remember going to the Devon Avenue location from the 80's. Because of that, it is so cool to see their expansion. Annapurna does cafeteria style seating. You place your order up front and they'll bring your food to you. They have certainly expanded their menu throughout the years, all the while maintaining quality. They have good chats, good dosas, in my opinion, great thalis (platters with a little of many things) and ale carte vegetarian dishes that you can order in the form of whole or half. They have Rajma, bhindi, malai kofta, palak paneer, you name it. Lots of good snacks too in case you don't want to fill the belly to the max. There are plenty of desserts plus you can always take sweets to go. Service is fast and the place, at times, can be elbow to elbow, but I think thats because Annapurna is reliable in terms of food and service. Annapurna is one of my favorite places for fast food Indian food. I love their live pani Puri - they have a few different types of pani and it reminds me of eating pani Puri in india. Love the fresh squeezed sugarcane juice option. We ordered 3 different dosas, vada pav, and several drinks including fresh sugarcane juice and South Indian filter coffee, and some canned drinks. The juice was terrific , and the coffee was OK. Menu is nice and expansive without being overwhelming. The bass pav was super fresh fries. Chutneys are watery and I would recommend they make them richer and more flavor intense. This past Sunday night we wanted to go to Five Spice Kitchen for dinner, but lo and behold it was closed, presumably due to a staff shortage. Google showed it was open, but now we know to call ahead. We then tried to go to Char Kabobs, but it didn't exist at the location we were routed to. Desperate for something to eat, we ended up at Annapurna. We like South Indian cuisine; so far so good. The interior is spacious and has a cafeteria feel. You order up front and the food is brought out. They also have various snacks, drinks, and packaged ice cream for sale. We ordered samosa chat, pani puri, and paper dosa. The samosa chat was very tasty, though more liquidy than samosa chat from other shops. The pani puri was disappointing; neither the chickpeas nor dipping sauces were stellar. The paper dosa was HUGE. However, it was plain and relatively flavorless.
