However, one item still costs the princely sum of 99 cents. The Dove Bar! I specifically asked the owner about it. There is a huge sign so one cannot miss it. I frequent this store quite often as there are many items that are far cheaper than at other shops. As one enters the rows are packed to the brim neatly and nicely. Baby wipes which cost now $1.79 are nicely priced as I buy five packets at a time to clean my apartment. Some medications like the A&D cream that comes in a tube costs under $2. Now this is a bargain. Bottles are nicely priced too and so are school supplies. Detergents can be expensive though. There is even a variety of packaged food items but I don't care for them. The owners are a kind couple.

Today I was looking for a sink stopper. Prices are very reasonable for odds and ends. There's a little bit of everything. The manager said to give him a week and he will get the smaller sink stopper. He only had the one for the kitchen sink. I need the bathroom sink size. You have to visit to see how organized the store is laid out. This is going to be a pleasure after the mess at the dollar store nearby. I'm already a fan after two visits. I even added the business to Yelp so everyone can support this new business. It's great to have inexpensive options. Plus they're open long hours daily for electric, plumbing and hygiene emergencies. Anything you may run out of. You're welcome.

I don't tend to like the smell of most thrift shops but I didn't feel this way there..it really felt like just shopping at a regular shop. Even if tags were old it was on the inside and it's clear that all the clothing items were examined carefully before putting up for sale. Their mission to help people who are homeless and people with AIDS is just another reason to shop here, one of many locations. There are even tax deductible membership dues and discounts if you decide to join Housing Works. I left with a gray Theory blazer and lots of inspiration to do more thrifting and check out their other locations!

Had to dock a point because there's only one dressing room and it is so annoying to get changed in there, especially because people can easily peek in, due to it being so janky. It's also very uncomfortable to shop here because it's abnormally narrow, so while you're browsing, you'll have dozens of people moving past you, so you have to scooch into the racks to let them through, and it's very annoying. Last, customer service is so bad! The tall, black guy is insanely unfriendly and acts like he does not want you there. It's a bizarre attitude for a thrift store employee to have. It was a little difficult getting our shopping cart full of donations in the door with all the customers rushing in on top of us. They need a clear pathway when you enter. There's too much stuff around the front door. They do have a better way of leaving donations. There's a big bin now where you just put everything in. I didn't have to waste a shopping bag after removing everything from my cart. The biggest selling point for me is the opening time of 10am. Most Thrift Stores open later. They IGNORE her and keep talking amongst themselves. Very rude and no sense of customer service, and this was further exemplified by my checkout experience. I found a very beat up ralph lauren card holder with no price on it. The leather was stained and peeling in some areas. Some other wallets were marked between $4-$6. I went up to the counter and asked how much it was, expecting a similar price considering the condition. She pulls her phone and I kid you not spends almost two minutes googling how much it's worth online? And looks at me with a straight face and says it's $20. HA. I said no thank you I'll just take this candle. I hand her cash and she gives me change and doesn't even look me in the eye, no thank you, no have a nice day, just hands me change and walks away and starts saying something in Russian to the other girl. I would not shop here again or recommend the store to anyone, the selection / prices are subpar at best, and the customer service is seriously lacking.

Visited today on Easter. Love my finds. It was my first trip to the area. Strolling by on a rainy…read moreday. So beautifully organized and so many discerning selections. All were carefully curated and displayed. My only dismay was not being aware of the important work the shop does as a non-profit before I randomly popped in as I was enjoying a stroll for some "me" time during a busy family trip. The woman with glasses, who I assume was the "manager/owner", was very passive aggressive with me and came off disrespectful and unwelcoming. I overheard her negotiating pricing on some items with other customers and when I was ready with my two vintage cameras (to be used for decor/props) and one pretty beat up purse (all totaling $75 w/o tax), I inquired if they were willing to do $70 for all. I wasn't sure what taxes the city/state charged so I wanted to be sure had enough on my card (a visa gift card a friend gave me when I was diagnosed with cancer) to cover the taxes. She loudly and obnoxiously replied "NO. WE DON'T HAGGLE HERE". I found it repulsive and aggressive when I had been so overly kind and impressed with the shop during my visit. It certainly caught me off guard. Especially after hearing her indeed "negotiate" pricing with other guests. She didn't even make eye contact with me but made sure to speak her words loud enough to try to embarrass me. I was not embarrassed, rather appalled and disgusted. So much so that I recalled other travelers from my party and told them not to come down to the shop. On the other hand, the two male clerks working with me were so kind, lovely and helpful during my visit. Kudos to them for staying pleasant and gracious in that moment that was intended for ugliness. While the encounter at the very end of my trip soured my visit, I would still encourage others to go and I will likely be back again next time. After visiting their website trying to figure out what I did wrong, I see that the work they do is impactful.

A VOW: I will no longer shop at Cauz For Pawz. What happened, you ask?…read more I was in the area today and so dropped by to shop to expand my budding my costume pearl collection (see pic), the beginnings of which I found at Cauz For Pawz. THE DEMAND. However today, strangely, the requirement to shop at Cauz For Pawz was put my wet $250 black umbrella in a garbage can. It is well-made; it has been through everything. I bought it in London years ago. I probably will be buried with it - if I don't lose it. Anyway, I was harshly told by the brown bobbed hair shop-keep that I have to FIRST put my very expensive umbrella in an unsecured black garbage bag in a trash can, along with other wet black umbrellas, by the front door. MY CRIME. Instead of risking my umbrella being taken by accident, I offered to shop inside at door standing on the doormat in front of the costume jewelry counter since the shop-keep, an angry middle-age woman with a brown bowl-cut hairdo I've never seen before (I think?), was standing behind the counter right by the front door. I politely said I will stand on the doormat by the front door and look at the tray that has the costume pearls. She stated emphatically I would "not be allowed to buy anything" at Cauz For Pawz until I put my umbrella "in the black garbage bag" at the front door. I thought: "Should I risk my expensive umbrella being taken by accident or by mistake?" The answer was of course, "No." So I said, "Thank you, I will leave." I left. The middle-aged bobbed shop-keep yelled something as the door closed, but I didn't hear what was said. A SPECULATION: The issue, I believe, was not about my race or my sex. You see, when you are treated as a minority as I sometimes am, one of the first things you tend to consider when someone you never met is immediately hostile and disdainful without "cauz," is to consider the possibilities of "Why?" After all, the shop-keep did bark at the humble, quiet black woman who had entered before me. The brown bob proved she could be nice to the customer who had arrived before me and the other woman. He was lucky, he had none of my markers (I am assuming the issue was about markers). Her interaction with him proved she could be helpful, ask probing questions, and be solicitous. ALL ABOUT CLASS? However, I deduced that the vitriol and hatred must be because me and the other woman were not wearing tweed like he was. So, I have concluded at this point that issue was one about class. That is: "Who has money and who doesn't." But sometimes a guess can be wrong, right? While I was in Cauz For Pawz for the last time looking into the eyes of that bobbed-headed woman filled with rage because....I was wasn't obeying her, I knew there was nothing I could say to change things. For a second I was tempted to say in my defense: "I've shopped at Cauz For Pawz before spending quite a bit of money. I have bought many things here that I really liked. Or, "My umbrella is very expensive and I don't want to lose it." WORKING CLASS. But if my deduction is correct and it was all about class, then she is right: My ancestors were servants, farm labor, enlisted soldiers, laundry women and dock workers. My class is low to some people but to me I come from the best of the best. My ancestors were hard working honorable people who gave me my intelligence and morality. It was they who instilled in me the ethics I hold to this today. But if the shop-keep-brown-bob is correct, that costume jewelry sales should only be the realm of "the right sort," then I must agree that she correctly damned me to never be allowed again to buy costume jewelry at Cauz For Pawz because my origins are truly poor. In the middle-age shop-keep's defense, I did look pretty rough today when I came into Cauz For Pawz: The rain had frizzed my pinned up hair. My left jaw was slightly swollen (maybe it looked I was just in a brawl?) due oral surgery I just had. My button down shirt under my pullover was indeed untucked. However, I can sometimes be viewed as "the right sort" and I can clean up somewhat (see pic) which is why (after all, it must have been why) the other ladies, the kind ones, before this one at Cauz For Pawz, were super nice, the ones who had went out of their way to help me buy beautiful vintage clothes, even a pair of French riding boots (I love them!) that I truly don't deserve. The kind and helpful ones who even put my handbag (that contained my expensive black umbrella) SECURELY behind the shop's counter so I could freely shop for more cool stuff! THE DECISION. But I was shocked by the overt hostility of that judgmental middle-aged brown bob haircut. I decided to find another vintage store "cauz" to support. I just hope they sell costume pearl jewelry - reasonably priced!
