I'm a bit more selective when I thrift, but I finally found the perfect black turtleneck. I've been trying to replace a specific weight for 5 yrs and I finally found one that isn't too thin nor too heavy. I almost always stay in NoMad or Chelsea when I'm in town and it's is a very easy walk to Buffalo Exchange. Located with a handful of thrift stores in a row, it's a good area to hit up if you like thrifting. Service was very friendly. I'm glad it's becoming more popular. It's good for the earth. Expanding past the Chelsea Flea Market, W. 26th Street has become a row of vintage/thrift cloting stores which ride the trend of interest and fashion of upcycling and 2nd hand clothes. The over 50 year old Buffalo Exchange, with their "buy/sell/trade" business model, originated in Tuscon, for some reason reminds me shopping at Burlington, with out the obnoxiously slow lines. Perhaps it was their clearly not used, impulse gifts that are sprinked around the store... or perhaps it was their rack of ugly Christmas sweater or new looking synthetic cowskin boots. You can't even haggle with the prices. Half of the clothes are damaged in pieces meaning if you don't have an eye for seeing any type of detail then they will buy things that are damaged. I blame corporate because they have put these policies in place. The service was amazing where they were absolutely perfect. The policy of the store needs to change because everything is used items but corporate have it priced like it's brand new when it's not! If I could give 0 stars I would but the people who work there deserve 5 stars while the brand & corporate deserves to have negative stars! Change how it used to be! read more

Sold clothes here and it was honestly a pretty great experience compared to what I am use to. (I have sold at other locations before). The wait was a bit long, so I shopped around a bit, but the girl helping me i think she said her name was Hailey was so sweet and helpful I couldn't believe it! Made the wait worth it! I'm use to the buying experience being stressful and she made it extremely fun and full of conversation. Will absolutely be selling here only going forward !! There is also honestly a great selection of clothes for sale. Lots of hidden gems in the racks and sooo much to go through!! It seems like they are getting hundreds of new pieces a day so there is always new stuff on the racks. My only issue is with how much there was to go through I spent over an hour looking after I sold !! UPDATE: REPORT THIS BUSINESS TO THE BBB IMMEDIATELY. I have been a loyal customer at this location for years, and today will be the last time they ever see me. They will never get another dollar from me. Over the past month, my girlfriend and I noticed a disturbing pattern: every time we shopped, security would follow us around the store. My girlfriend was understandably offended, but I told her to stay calm--I'd speak to a manager. After doing so, the security seemed to back off that day. But a week later, we returned, and not one--but two--security guards followed us the entire time. My girlfriend couldn't hold back her frustration and called it out. And honestly, I don't blame her. We are regular paying customers who spend hundreds of dollars here. At this point, security should know who we are--and more importantly, know that we have never given them any reason to be suspicious. While I'm not saying going off is always the right approach, she wasn't wrong either. To be sure this wasn't a one-off situation, I visited the store several more times over the month, on my own, just to test the waters. And each time, the profiling continued. But today crossed every line. I picked out 8 items and walked over to the shoe area. An employee approached me and offered to start a fitting room--something they've never done before, which already felt off. Still, I agreed. I picked a pair of sneakers, took them to the register, and asked the cashier to hold them while I tried on clothing. That's when I realized security was actively tailing me again. I tried to ignore it and headed to the fitting room. I was in there maybe 5-10 minutes. Nothing worked for me, so I rehung the clothes and got ready to leave. When I opened the fitting room door, I caught the security guard looking under the door--yes, looking under my fitting room door. That was it. A complete violation of privacy. Absolutely disgusting behavior. I went straight to the manager and explained what had just happened. The manager brushed me off with, "I wasn't there, so I don't know what's going on." Are you kidding me? I'm telling you what's going on--and instead of showing concern, you dismiss it? I walked out immediately before I said something I'd regret. I'm reporting this business to the BBB and will also be speaking with my lawyer to see if legal action is possible. This wasn't just unprofessional--it was invasive, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and shop at 2nd Street, Crossroads, or Beacon's Closet instead. I haven't been in a vintage clothing store for a few years but this felt more like a Goodwill Store to me. I was smiled at by the employee behind the counter. I felt welcome to browse to my hearts content. Maybe I missed something but I was thinking I own items from the seventies and eighties that look more vintage than what I saw. The racks are very tidy and the merchandise is abundant. If you like to sort through lots of clothing and accessories for fun then this is your place. If you're a seller, don't bother with Buffalo Exchange or the Cross Road because they are complete waste of your time. Either sell your stuff on craigslist, Facebook market, Amazon, eBay, or take them to the Salvation Army because you'll either save much more time or get much more returns out of your items. To be honest, Buffalo exchange is just a complete waste of time if you have a lot of clothing that you want to get rid of... and regardless of quality, they only purchase on an average of 0-3 items per person anyway. We arrived with 2 suitcases of clothing and most of them aren't even worn. They took 2 new Ralph Lauren pants valued over hundreds of dollars for $7ish per piece. read more

I used to shop there quite often, and found 1-2 items reasonably priced. However, I found recently that one of the items I purchased there was a designer counterfeit item, which was priced high designer price so I didn't think it was fake. I didn't realize this until I saw exact same item with a different tag on and did research on the label. ChatGPT immediately noticed all wrong things on the brand label, logo, care tags etc. I believe selling counterfeit items is against the law but I don't think the store really check the authenticity of every item. Purchasing counterfeit items is not something I want to do, so I avoid this store since then. The other stores around them, 2nd street for example, they check authenticity, and they provide proper service if items look suspicious, so now I go there instead of this store. This is not a store to purchase designer items, and I should have known that before I made this mistake. read more

In comparison to other locations, I have an appreciation of the shirts they have in stock. Compared to others, they have a good supply of distinct and unique items which increases the appeal. Kind of a rush during the visit and find the stay short , I need more time on next visit. I was happy with what I got - an ugly Christmas sweater. This place stole two of most expensive pieces that they did not buy. They were missing when i got home, $800 worth of clothing. The buyer was not trained and did not know clothing. I brought in a lot of clothing and it would be easy to slip something off the counter when I was not looking. She especially liked the wedding shirt, which she said was 'culturally insensitive', an they could not accept it. it was a hand embroidered men's wedding shirt from Ghana. I really hate to accuse anyone of anything, but i have double-checked to make sure I did not misplace these items. Be super careful and pay very close attention should you have nice things. This place is only a little more than 1 block from Crossroads Trading Co and that's where you'll find the gems at! Love it there. The items here are more juvenile - more likely to find good Forever21 coats that's are clean and in style, just not as high of brands as Crossroads. Horrible service, rude and racist employees. I went to sell my items and most were already thrifted, but it was because I wasn't white they turned me away. I watched them take only items from white people and nothing from people of my shade or darker. The buyer that was looking at our items only put gloves on when touching my stuff and people of colored clothes. But when the seller was white the buyer had no gloves on?? I love the Buffalo Exchange in my town, so when I saw it here I decided to give it a whirl. There are lots of inclusive sizing options, which I always appreciate. Some other stores I've been to completely overlook plus sizes. The selection is pretty nice, prices aren't steals but certainly reasonable for New York. Nothing I bought was more than $22. I ended up picking up a dress shirt, a casual date night type shirt and a makeup bag. The biggest issue I had was the temperature inside. Idk if someone thought AC was optional in 90-degree heat or if it's broken, but holy crap the thick, hot air smacked me in the face as soon as I walked in. And the BO from a few trying to shop, and understandably so. I was in a bit of a rush, so I only spent 10 minutes in there anyway. If it would've been much longer, I might've been in fear of passing out. Those workers must be saints to deal with that. So yeah, definitely knocked off a star for the wild no AC or air circulation situation. Please get it fixed, no one should have to go through that. This Buffalo Exchange is huge. FOR BUYING - Since the store is so big, I have gotten a fair amount of stuff from here over the years from Madewell sweaters to lululemon leggings. There's a wide selection of things and I find it to be well organized. FOR SELLING - The line varies but on average I would say it takes about 30 minutes to sell here. There are a bunch of chairs in the right side corner when you walk in and that's because those chairs can get filled from people selling! If you've never sold before, my best tip is to think ahead in terms of summer (e.g. they like to buy for spring in winter). Overall, I come here a lot because it's conveniently located and boasts such a huge collection of items! read more
