I used to eat here fairly often, but havent been back since moving back to Topeka a few years ago. I used to LOVE the food and service here (especially the fresh baked goodies). Went in around 5 on a Wednesday (fairly early), maybe half a dozen tables taken. Took forever to get seated as there seemed to be only one person in the front of the house, period.....seating and waiting tables. Ok, not that outside the norm for early dinner, But....no amazing bakery smell. Before they were baking all the time....and at the very least had rolls baking every hour or so. But the ovens were cold, the baking area looked as if it hadnt seen use in a while. I ordered the chicken fried steak, wife ordered a philly dog with chili cheese fries. Service wasnt awful, but the food took a while. When we were finally served my chicken fried steak was burned on the outside, yet they managed to still make it soggy (imagine partially cooked shake n bake cooked by a 12 year old with ADD). It had obviously been either made weeks/months ago and frozen for quite some time, or they order it in frozen and reheat it. Regardless, it was the single worst chicken fried steak I have ever had in a restaurant...the worst since my Jr High cafeteria. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant. The "gravy" was partially congealed and seemed as if it had come frozen too. Chunks of something in the gloopy mess that I think were supposed to be chicken, but I wouldnt swear on it. Horrible! Oh....and the "dinner roll" was prepackaged. WHY serve that when you have an amazing bakery right there? So disappointing! Wife's hot dog was passable, she said, but the fries were soggy (yeah, yeah, I know! Air baked fries often are. But Annie's fries used to be a hallmark!). The chili was Hormel (without a doubt). The cheese wasnt actual cheddar, but some imitation. Not entirely melted, and a lot of grease from the "CHEESE" (as you sometimes see when cheap cheddar substitute separates). One thing we noticed: we're in our 40's and I swear the average age dropped 35 to 40 years when we walked in (yes, waitress included). The wife thinks that the owners and/or alleged cooks just stopped trying, since their average clientele will just eat it and smile. Dont know. My grandmother died at 82 and was demanding as all hell when she went to a restaurant, and wouldnt hesitate to send back a meal with a message for the cook, "perhaps a job at McDonalds would better match your obviously limited ability". I should have taken a page from her book and sent my meal back! Anyway, this whole mess and 2 drinks ended up costing almost $30. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! You can get MUCH better MUCH cheaper in Topeka. Avoid this place like the plague. I know I will never set foot in there again....especially since my wife and I both are having disturbed digestion. read more

Family restaurant, located near a strip mall shopping center. Restaurant is relatively quiet and is a nice place to meet with family or friends. The restaurant is clean and the employees are friendly. Ordered a cobb salad and it was so-so - nothing exciting. Menu seems rather plain. read more

Been here twice and both experiences were good. The food we've had has always been good. Their bakery is amazing and they bake everything there on site, you can see the lady working back there. I've only tried the cinnamon rolls but I'd love to try more. The only thing wrong with Annie's I feel is the decor, it is outdated and could use a little makeover and updating. read more

This place has the BEST coconut cream pie in Topeka. They are my go-to restaurant for a home cooked meatloaf dinner without the fuss of having to make one and clean it all up! If you're looking for a super yummy breakfast, try their cinnamon roll French toast. It's incredible. They also have a decent chai latte considering this isn't a "coffee house". Not everything is "the best" there. I didn't enjoy the biscuits and gravy... As a matter of fact, I took one bite of what was a VERY unappetizing plate, and couldn't continue as it was far too peppery. Even my bestie (who's kind of like "Mikey" and will eat just about anything) wouldn't eat them. We will also need to give their spinach artichoke dip another go sometime because the night we ordered it they brought out a punch bowl size container of chips that was half full with only a small ramekin of the dip... Perhaps it was just an "off" night for that. The waitresses that have served us have always been wonderful and we love this little local restaurant. We always feel welcome and our meals are usually pretty yummy... Especially that pie! read more

Awful. The mini corn dogs for our kids were moldy on the inside. The restaurant smells like a nursing home. I will never go back.

Went last night for a last minute family dinner. Awesome that being a small local restaurant they are open until 9 pm. We each got a burger cooked to different levels of 'doneness'. Each was perfect. The Hot Air fries were delicious! The sweet potato fries were so-so. The homemade buns were absolutely wonderful. We got pie slices to go, and while the Fudge Pecan Pie was not what I was picturing in my head when I ordered it, it was delicious none the less. read more

Visited on 1/2/15 after reviewing the menu to ensure there was something to eat for a vegetsrian and a very picky 5 year old. The food was lousy. Spinach artichoke dip was pre packaged and the quantity was ineadquate, abot 5 tablespoons for a large boel of chips. Cheese quiche was ok, but warmed in microwave. Hamburger was overcooked and very dry. No chicken tenders fot the 5 year old and she had tster tots only. Meatloaf sandwich was bready. 1 star was being generous. read more

OPEN for business and great dessert choices. I love their butterscotch cream pie! Their aloutte burger is amazing too!!

Went for dinner tonight. Small portions and overpriced. I had the chopped sirloin steak but it was nothing more than thin hamburger patty and a handful of fries. Not a good value as my family walked away unsatisfied and I felt like I paid far too much for what we got. read more

The food was incredible!!! I had a guacamole burger, my husband had a Cheddar & Bacon burger and my son had a Philly Cheesesteak. The food came out my burger cooked to perfection with so much guacamole on it. Also decided on the apple pie..Oh this will put you back in the American Spirit. Service was wonderful. I just recently moved to Topeka been looking for that perfect burger service with a smile.. People forget how important it is to be kind and here there was no shortage..Found it will go back over and over this place is so worth it in every way. Best. Burgers. Ever. I've traveled and eaten out quite a bit and these are simply the best burgers I've ever come across! The service is a gamble...when it's bad it's very, very bad. We're delighted when we are there on a good night, when we are waited on promptly, food comes on time, check arrives soon after food taken away, they come back and get the money, etc. On bad nights this can take a looong time. read more

A lunch with five friends recently to celebrate a birthday was a pleasant one. Two of us has a black bean veggie burger with a side of sweet potato fries. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was quick and attentive. Leave room for dessert, especially apple pie...some of the best around. We plan to return soon. read more

Annie's Place appeals to the older crowd. They have a lot of normal dishes you'd expect at an American style restaurant. The food has a homemade appearance and taste. If you want a quiet dining experience or a place to bring a large family party, this would be it. read more

I'm new to the Topeka area and my girlfriend on our first date suggested Annie's Place and it's become a favorite of mine. The food is delicious, the staff can be a bit slow but that's only because the food is homemade and it never is a drawback to the experience. The staff is friendly, attentive, and just complete dining experience that is worth trying. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My sandwich and air fries were inedible, I sent it back. The other 2 orders of fries were also inedible. But they still charged us for the fries and the gravy that couldn't be eaten because the fries were undercooked. The building is dingy. The service was slow and not super friendly. Management never came to try to solve the problem. We ended up paying $24 for a chicken sandwich and a burger which could have been bought anywhere. Many years ago we ate here frequently. We ordered the Alouette burger and the special sauce was spoiled- it smelled rotten and tasted terrible. We immediately spit it out and told the waitress. She immediately spouted off a date that was supposedly written on the container. She either has an amazing memory and checks dates every time, or she is a liar. They did not discount our bill and when I asked for another meal for our daughter- she then charged me for the fruit that we asked to keep from the plate with the spoiled food. That will be our last trip there, and there is a certain odor to the place. The manager/owner (blonde-hair) was rude to us and acted like it wasn't her problem and she also supposedly never heard ANY complaints from customers before. GET REAL read more
