Nice local spot for fresh flowers and produce. The salad bar is a good alternative for the mid day lunch too.

Prices are high, but they have a lot of things you cannot find elsewhere. Your money can still go acceptably far here if you know when to shop. Example, Tuesdays are $4lb ground chuck/pork, and chicken breasts. Thursdays they have $5 basic maki rolls etc. All the staff is friendly too. I much prefer this place over that other store a door or two down.

You are hit when you walk in by wonderful smells - clearly their grilling and food prep is meant to draw people in. The aisles are wide, and there were barely any people there, though I went at an off time, so it does not feel crowded or chaotic at all. They only play quiet classical music. The selection is more limited than a larger grocery store, but that's to be expected, and they have an excellent selection of prepared items anyway, as well as wine! As a pleasant surprise, they had a free sample of their wings, which seemed baked and not fried, and with a dry rub instead of a sauce - delicious flavors. They might be used to intense customers - one employee was in the way of the apples and apologized profusely, while another dropped some fruit when doing checkout and also felt horrible. I told them both it was very much OK! Their customer service training must be hardcore - or just the clientele :P You won't be able to find everything you want, most likely, but if you want a few things and have a bit of wiggle room in the budget, you'll enjoy going here!

Honestly, I thought that was just the standard for suburban grocery stores around here. I hadn't even heard of Sunset Foods until a TV commercial popped up the other night. Back in NY, I practically lived at Uncle Giuseppe's, and I've been majorly missing that high-end, Italian-market vibe. The commercial looked legit, so this past Saturday, I figured why not make the drive up to Highland Park and check it out. The second I pulled up, it just felt different. I got a super warm greeting walking in, but what really sold me was this guy outside grilling hot dogs right by the entrance. Honestly, just catching that smell in the weekend air instantly took me back to summers on Long Island. The store itself has a great vibe, really clean and upscale. I hit the cheese section first because the gourmet selection is massive. A really nice staff member saw me looking a bit overwhelmed and helped me pick out a few incredible cheeses. Then I hit the bakery and deli, totally overloading my basket with random finds, including a massive brownie that looked insane, and some awesome cured meats. But the real test was the meat and seafood counter. At Jewel, half the time the meat looks like it's turning brown under the plastic wrap. Sunset is the exact opposite. Everything looked fresh and bright. They were running a sale on salmon, and I picked up a filet that was delicious. Yeah, the register total was definitely higher than what I'd pay at Jewel, but the quality difference is night and day. You get what you pay for. So glad I found this place, it's the closest thing to home I've found yet.

The staff here was absolutely friendly but food-wise, I thought the selection was pretty minimal , Bare Bones and above all a bit overpriced which kind of disappointed my experience here. Overall, this place has a variety of many things from vegan options for my wife to a variety of cold drinks to go. Check out lines move by pretty fast as well. This place featured plenty of parking as well. Overall, I thought this was an average grocery store to check out.

As soon as I walked in, the store felt dated, from the lighting and décor to the overall atmosphere. I came to take advantage of a $7 off $7 purchase promotion Jewel offered to celebrate the Bears' win over the Green Bay Packers on January 10, 2026. The promotion was supposed to be redeemed with a digital coupon between January 12 and 16. I have been part of their loyalty program for a while, and this was my first time clipping one of their digital coupons on my desktop. When I checked out at the self-checkout, the $7 discount did not apply, even after I entered my phone number and confirmed I was connected to my Jewel loyalty account. The staff overseeing the area kept asking to see the coupon on my phone app. I did not realize I also had to download their app, since clipping the digital coupon on a computer is all that is required with Mariano's. The staff was not particularly friendly, but he did manually take $7 off this time.  I thanked him for his help and mentioned the convenience of Mariano's system, fully expecting the response of "we are not Mariano's," and that was exactly what I got. Haha. That is also why Jewel is not my primary grocery store anymore. Unfortunately, the Bears lost their following game on January 18 and ended the season abruptly, so I will not need to worry about redeeming another Jewel digital coupon anytime soon.

The produce is consistently poor quality--bruised, wilted, or already going bad. It's frustrating when you can't rely on basics like fruits and vegetables to be fresh. On top of that, the store just feels dirty. The floors, shelves, and overall appearance look like they haven't been properly managed. If I go, it's only for an emergency and a handful of items. I try to do self check out, everytime the machine has an issue and it takes forever for someone to come and help fix it. I have left a few times without any items. Staying hopeful this can be corrected.

Their coupons often have great deals, even though they sometimes do not ring up correctly without assistance ,but at least they try to offer discounts. Lately, however, I have noticed the produce stock has become inconsistent, the quality has diminished, and I can no longer rely on availability the way I once could. This used to be my dependable last-minute shopping stop, but unfortunately not anymore. What disappointed me most was an experience I recently had while shopping for groceries. I noticed many wilted flowers and potted plants being thrown away, so I politely asked if they could donate them instead. I spoke with Scott, the manager, and was disappointed by how bluntly and unwillingly he responded. He said they were already donating to an old age center, while the florist mentioned they had stopped donating there long ago. It was discouraging to see so much waste when those flowers could still be used meaningfully by churches or community spaces where they are appreciated throughout the day. The rude and unfriendly interaction made the experience even more disappointing.

Although the self-checkout area had a different staff each time I went, the staff I encountered were all friendly and helpful. In the most recent trip, a staff named Marty even came up to me to say "Hello, how are you?" This gesture really set the tone for a happy checkout. Right after Thanksgiving, I saw a sign on sweet potatoes advertising 29 cents a pound with digital coupon and the Mariano's loyalty card, which was an excellent deal.  So, I called my husband to clip the digital coupon online with the home computer while I was getting some sweet potatoes.  However, my husband could not find the coupon on Mariano's website.  I saw a staff working in the produce department who looked like a manager, named Matthew, and told him about the situation.  He found that the deal had just expired even though the sign was still posted.  He still graciously honored the discounted price. At self-checkout, a staff named Meredith gladly honored the price as well without needing to verify it with Matthew.  Although I was only saving about $2, this kind of trust, friendliness, and flexibility were great customer service and made me happy. During the same visit, I noticed that Mariano's had replaced all of their shopping carts with brand new plastic ones.  These new shopping carts were clean and sturdy, and very smooth and easy to maneuver. I like that Mariano's really works on enhancing customers' shopping experience.   Kudos to the Northbrook management and staff for doing such a great job.
