Occasionally, I stop by this Jewel-Osco to pick up a few items. It used to be my go-to grocery store back in the day, but this visit reminded me why it no longer is. As soon as I walked in, the store felt dated, from the lighting and décor to the overall atmosphere. I came to take advantage of a $7 off $7 purchase promotion Jewel offered to celebrate the Bears' win over the Green Bay Packers on January 10, 2026. The promotion was supposed to be redeemed with a digital coupon between January 12 and 16. I have been part of their loyalty program for a while, and this was my first time clipping one of their digital coupons on my desktop. When I checked out at the self-checkout, the $7 discount did not apply, even after I entered my phone number and confirmed I was connected to my Jewel loyalty account. The staff overseeing the area kept asking to see the coupon on my phone app. I did not realize I also had to download their app, since clipping the digital coupon on a computer is all that is required with Mariano's. The staff was not particularly friendly, but he did manually take $7 off this time.  I thanked him for his help and mentioned the convenience of Mariano's system, fully expecting the response of "we are not Mariano's," and that was exactly what I got. Haha. That is also why Jewel is not my primary grocery store anymore. Unfortunately, the Bears lost their following game on January 18 and ended the season abruptly, so I will not need to worry about redeeming another Jewel digital coupon anytime soon. read more

I really try to give grocery stores the benefit of the doubt, but every time I shop at Jewel, I walk away disappointed. The produce is consistently poor quality--bruised, wilted, or already going bad. It's frustrating when you can't rely on basics like fruits and vegetables to be fresh. On top of that, the store just feels dirty. The floors, shelves, and overall appearance look like they haven't been properly managed. If I go, it's only for an emergency and a handful of items. I try to do self check out, everytime the machine has an issue and it takes forever for someone to come and help fix it. I have left a few times without any items. I'll start by saying this, I don't shop here often. I have some family nearby so on occasion I like to stop in here when it's convenient. To get to the point... the place is clean and typically seems well stocked. They had the new Ben and Jerry's flavors I'd been looking for, this was the first place to get them. Ive only done small self checkout transactions so I can't say much about the staff. They have some deals sometimes but can be on the higher end price-wise if you don't shop discounts. Overall this store is not a bad option, especially if your looking for the newest snacks. read more

We needed a few things so we stopped in one evening. The medicines, allergies stuff are located in the front corner of the store. The cashier told us to exit a certain door as the other exit was closed after a certain hour. Helpful! Who else is shopping this evening ? Customer Service here was the worst after today I will not be coming back to this location, every employee I came in contact with was very rude, not 1 person on the sales floor knew where a particular item was, ask the employee where item was located and he said he didn't know, maybe he need not work on the floor if he dont know where things are located, ask another employee if he knew where the item was located he completely ignored me like he had an attitude, lady at the self check out was rude as well. Robert, at the Deerfield store is a cashier who is rude. Will not reply to a question, does not greet you at his register or say thank you when you are done. The special needs worker was polite and full of conversation. Considering jewel is not busy like they used to be maybe consider hiring workers that value their job. I would give this zero stars if this would allow me. The deli people were very nice, especially the woman who helped me. The meat dept. are nothing but unqualified, rude and beligerant. The butcher in the back came out to help the lady helping me find the bar code for my meat. She couldn't find it after 2 x and 5 minutes after packing it up. He came out to help her and she asked me for the 3rd time how many i wanted I said "8, for the 3rd time". This guy literally called me an a-hole under his breath" or so he thought. I tried calling the store but no one in customer service answered after 3 tries. This was around 2:30 in the afternoon. Disgusting people, disgusting attitude and store. Constant mistakes on receipt. We always clip the coupons and many times they don't show up and we're charged full price. Was told several times it's because of their WiFi but no one bothered to mention there was a problem. So unless u go over every receipt you wouldn't know When we come back with an incorrect receipt the staff is extremely nasty about having to refund the overcharge. The food from this Jewel Osco is always excellent quality!! The atmosphere is really great and the service is always good. Today though I had an extra good experience at the deli counter with Martha. She took the time after I told her what brand of food I wanted to give me a sample to make sure I liked it. She is the first person behind the deli counter to do this. Now that they've been open for a couple years in the new store they have had some turnover from at least some of the crabby folks who work in the deli. I was there today contemplating getting some of their excellent 5 star fried chicken but I chickened out :) get it? Oh so corny I know. There I did it again :) The whole place is so much nicer than the old cramped store. The wine selection is pretty good at least for reds and I like the sweet deal you get when you buy 6 bottles. It still pays to shop around since other stores are doing this too. The isles are wider and it's so much brighter. I use the Osco at this store. The pharmacists here are the best, thoughtful, service oriented making phone calls to doctors, and always caring. I have no problem getting a shot in the arm from them. They have an express line there that has up to four registers for the lunch rush. If only the jerks with more that the limited items would go to the regular check out registers and not hold up folks with just a handful of items. This Jewel has been good and bad over the years -- good because of great sales on select items such as soda, ice cream, and milk -- but as others have pointed out, they sometimes run out of items, don't update the sales tags quick enough, have items stocked away from the price tag (so you're not sure if it's actually on sale or not), and could stock fresher fruits and vegetables. However, they've recently remodeled and opened a much larger store which is much more pleasant to walk around, has a huge selection of items, and looks great. Overall, prices seem to be lower, produce seems fresher, there's more selection of premium and bulk items, checkout seems faster, and things are stocked in an organized and logical fashion. For now, it seems that these remodeled Jewels are better competitors against Mariano's, local international markets, Target, Trader Joe's, and Walmart. Jewel is a fine balance between bargain shopping, good selection, and nice decor. read more

Beyond impressed...twice in the past few weeks two different store managers have gone far and beyond! First .. a daytime manager, and I apologize, because I can't remember if his name was Scott or Steve was so helpful in the produce department and fully explained the reasoning behind the digital app program that is rather ridiculous to me. If something is on sale, just give it to the customer rather than go thru all the hassle. There must be a better way to track your shoppers! Secondly, last night at 11:15 pm the store manager, Ed, spent almost 30 minutes helping find every single item needed to create a watermelon cake centerpiece for Mother's Day. He literally went from one end of the store to the other and back and forth to every department til midnight.... WOW! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Highland Park Jewel. This store is very well stocked and the employees are nice and knowledgeable. It seems far better managed then the Jewel that is closer to my house. I drive an extra 15 minutes to shop here. Today I had the pleasure of working with Angie in the bakery department. She was SO kind and thorough and helpful with my special order cake. She could tell it was someone important to me and made wonderful suggestions on how to fill the space and make it festive and special! Though this Jewel is nearer to my home than the HP Jewel, I mostly shop at the HP Jewel for the kosher deli, bakery, and their large number of other kosher products. That being said, I do a fair amount of shopping here, so I feel qualified to write a substantive review. I find the management to be truly delightful as well as helpful and I'm surprised at reviews that say otherwise. All other employees are equally delightful and helpful. I like that when I go in there it feels like entering into "Cheers" without actually pulling a stool up to the bar. I don't mind the lack of formality and the bonhomie among employees. There is always a large variety of products and fresh produce. Obviously, I always wish that they offered more kosher products, that THIS was the "Kosher" Jewel, or that they at least transported the Jewel made bakery items to this location. That is one shortcoming for me and the other is the planning that was done for entering and exiting the parking lot. read more

Came here during the covid 19 pandemic. The store very well stocked. Everyone had masks on, the aisles had one way markers and the check out area had plexus glass in from of each cashier. I didn't see anyone cleaning the carts and I did notice they didn't have the usual sanitizer wipes for the carts the box was empty hmm. Luckily I had gloves on but even without a global pandemic I like to just wipe down the cart handle before using the shopping cart. I purchased some great alcohol sales and clearance but when I got home I noticed one bottle of whiskey was missing it's seal (I purchased 2 so I knew what it was supposed to look like) ugh I was soooo bummed. The new remodeled jewel is great! Just hit up a 3day sale and the prices can't be beat. This is the third time and last time I have tried the pick up service from this Jewel. Sunset foods in Northbrook does a far superior job. The customer service at this Jewel was horrendous. You leave notes for the shopper in a place that is provided to leave notes they do not pay attention to them. If there's a problem or a question they do not call. On their website placing their orders three of three times I have had problems where I've had to call the 877 number to get help ( no one in store can help) in order to compleat the order and by the time we were done my timeslot was gone. And the couldn't help with that. I have gotten the wrong thing three different times with different items. And so much more. Don't waist your time here. Use any other place. Here's what you need to know: the renovated new Jewel Osco is very inviting. A tremendously improved wine selection (not to mention the incredible 20% off 6+ bottles specials every year during the holidays). Staff is terrific. Don't expect high quality produce like Whole Foods though - since they are just not catering to the quality obsessed - don't care what I pay - clientele. The new Jewel has Spacious aisles, better fixtures, and a considerably larger organic section (compared to many other Jewels), making for a really good experience. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, especially Jef. I usually come in here post 8PM for grocery shopping and the store is well stocked and has a lot a clean, energetic feel. The deli and meat counters are in fact closed by then though. Wish those stayed open longer. If you are looking for the nicer wines out of the locked glass case, it's hard to locate an Osco employee after 9 PM. Overall, a really nice job of the remodel. read more

The entire staff is great! Debbie in the front is always very help as is Lil and the rest of the front end staff are grade A and always willing to help. Tammy the GM is always on the floor working hard to perfect her store to make it the best it can be. Jose, the Meat and Seafood Mgr is always helpful and kind and has a kind word for his customers as does his staff. This Jewel now carries this drink Bing up by the juice in the front of the store. This energy drink is so good. They have Cherry, Apple/Cherry, Blackberry and Blueberry! The taste is great its a energy health food drink. It contains vitamins, ginseng and caffeine. The price is good, the taste is incredible and your missing out if you don't buy it today! It also helps that this Jewel has anything and everything you could need and the staff is incredible. read more

I've lived across the street for 25 years and would like to comment on how this business has been declining over the last two decades. Less foot traffic, expired goods on the shelf (especially the beer - yes beer expires - check the bottom of the cans for dates). Always understaffed, unfriendly staff (most likely a reaction to the mismanagement - I work in customer service, I get it). It's good that Cassie S is "cautiously optimistic" about this store, because after the past few visits, shopping here has been a bit of a bummer. Tonight I stopped in to grab some chicken for dinner, the grilled chicken was so tiny and picked over that I had to ask for a deal, and they gave me four pieces for the price of three. Top tip: The Jewel in Highland Park, my regular store, has no problem giving a nice discount on end of the day chicken. As far as the pricing is concerned, does anyone else feel like the prices are higher here? For some reason it seems like nothing is on sale at this Jewel location compared with my regular store. I paid full price for many of the same items I get at my other store, and the price was about $5 more. Hmmm... The produce isn't great here. The last shopping trips have failed me when it comes to bananas. Why are they so bruised and beaten up? I really want to love this store, but I am frustrated and feel bad that this review is more of a rant. Don't get me wrong, I love the bright new space so much. I also think the deli area is super organized. There is rarely anyone in line at this store...and the lines are sloooooow. Gosh these reviews are bad. It's Jewel which has got a name in Chicagoland, so you know a certain amount of traffic will come through here. Still, I think some employees could try and go above and beyond for their store and customers. Hey it's Deerfield and on a weeknight drive home, stopping to pick up something for dinner offers the chance of coming across a cutie single. Good selection of singles of all ages. FYI. Needed some visa photos and the Osco area offered them. For whatever reason you need the photos, they will shoot, crop and fix photos for you. Get six photos for $6.99, that's a better price & value than most photography shops could offer. However, the expertise of the agent performing the duty is left to whomever is on shift that day. Boy.. it can be as bad as waiting on your Grandpa to remember how to use that fang-dangled doodad of a digital camera. Expect to wait roughly twenty minutes plus for photos. read more

I was excited to finally see what all of the hype was about after the remodel, but boy was I disappointed!!! The store is just as rundown as it was prior to the mega expansion, and I had an unfortunate run-in with a very unprofessionally RUDE employee. For starters, stay away from the fresh bagels and donuts! As soon as I stuck my hand in to grab a blueberry bagel, my face was attacked by a swarm, and I mean SWARM of fruit flies. GROSS!! The whole cabinet smelled funky and who knows how long the flies have been breeding in there. Then, when I went to checkout, an elderly female employee in a neon vest (typically what the cart attendants wear outside) was cleaning something up in the lane I was about to enter. I waited for her to remove her cleaning supplies and figured she'd wipe up the wet puddle on the floor (she didn't), and then she proceeded to yank my cart from me to tell me she'd help me as if I didn't know how to check out as if I was an inconvenience to the employees in my lane! I was seriously waiting on HER. She continued to pull my cart ALL THE WAY up to where the cashier scans your groceries and started to grab my items. I told her "no thank you, I have two orders". Then she tells me "then you give her your two orders, but you stand HERE, not at the end of the conveyer belt". I said, "no, I do not, because now I can not only reach the items in my cart (I'm short and can't reach all the way over the cart to hand the cashier my items), but I also can't get to the two toddlers that are with me" (who are now separated from me by said cart). I told her we all needed to be at the front of the cart if this is what she requested. And then she stormed off. Made zero sense, especially since I had a ton of items in my order and the whole process took longer than it should have. She was seriously the rudest person I have ever encountered and clearly doesn't know how to efficiently checkout at a grocery store. THEN she continued to walk back and forth staring at me like I was the worst human being in the world. And if that wasn't enough, she came back and pulled my cart even further forward to be behind the bagger WITH MY PURSE STILL IN IT!!! The cart was within reach of the bagger and he was having zero issues doing his job. Yeah, no thanks. I feel bad for the other employees who have to work with this angry old lady. This review is being given after visiting the brand new store several times and truly giving them a chance. Jewel just doesn't "get it" and has missed the mark. At this point, I truly appreciate and love Mariano's even more. The first opening week, the store was only semi-impressive. There's bright lights and the words "ORGANIC" everywhere, but nothing exciting (no coffee bar, no wine bar, no nice cheese section, no experiences) and extremely poor customer service. It's actually seriously humorous how they've plastered the place with "ORGANIC ORGANIC ORGANIC" everywhere you look, from the produce displays to signs above you, end caps, etc. They must think that's the key to the success of their competitors and missed the rest. Buyer Beware though because they've put non-organic produce inside the produce cooler so unless you look carefully, you can easily mistake it for being organic when it's not. Week one produce looked beautiful and shelves were overflowing. On several occasions, not just once or twice, I have found moldy rotting produce and empty spaces where they're out of things. Prices are surprisingly high across the board on everything. Absolutely NOT low priced at all. Most cashiers don't greet you. One time was very oddly silent - no hello, no goodbye, no have a nice day, etc. She just handed me my receipt. Customer service sucks. Last night I asked the manager, Eric, on duty about matching Mariano's price on something that was more than double. He had this careless attitude and said something along the lines of "Yeah?". I then asked if he would match their prices, and he was rather cold with a no we don't match prices. We went back and forth, but he had no intentions of providing any positive customer service with any care. I told him for $3 he's basically losing a customer. He did not care, and walked away. It really wasn't the $3 I cared about, but the crappy careless attitude - so with that I am done with Jewel. I will gladly drive the much further distance to go elsewhere. I can see why the store is empty every time I go in. At Marianos, everyone there from the lowest level employee to management, has always gone above and beyond to resolve any concern I've ever come to them with. Everyone there is smiling, and I have always felt they cared - unlike my experiences at the new Jewel. read more

We frequented their Mini Jewel during the construction of the new store...Shopped at the Jewels in Highland Park and both stores in Glenview. We also stepped out of our comfort zone and went to Marianos; Glenview and Northbrook...We also shop at Fresh Farms in Wheeling(great fish market). Unfortunately, after 2 visits in 2 days during the Opening of the new Jewel...It took me twice as long to get what I needed because it is huge...things seem to be where they once were...but ...no frills...nothing special...They cannot compete with Marianos...Dont bother going to this store if you expect improvements...More than anything...I missed seeing the fabulous employees of the past! read more

Produce - not that great, i would avoid it. Sanitation - probably violates all health codes, some employees look disheveled and/or have that "Im high" appearance. Be prepared for long lines and slow cashiers. They have good chicken wings and guacamole. This particular location has a solid variety of kosher goods. But they stopped carrying Emmas breads and bagels, which is a huge minus. read more

She always has a smile and is Edgar to help in every situation. Frankly, she make this store great! Bakery is well stocked and helpful. Produce department is good for a Jewel. So don't think I'm crazy but this is my lunch spot when I can't make it out to a restaurant or think too late about what I'm having for lunch. My first stop is the deli counter. The you pick three for $5.49 is a great deal If you like the chicken there. I think there chicken is amazing. I always get the hot wings with fries and bread....a great deal. If the line is too long here, I go to the freezer section. There I can get a quick TV dinner (do they still call them this..lol) for $1 to $3 bucks based on how healthy I want to be. If I'm just in the mood for fruit, they also have a great produce section, fresh and reasonable priced... all in all I love Jewel as my go to lunch spot. read more
