I will start by saying that this place is now serving dog food. The food was absolutely disgusting - everything was hard, dry, and burnt, including the cake! Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. I really love this place and try to get here as often as I can. The food is so amazing and so full of flavor! There are many options to choose from as well, with something for everyone. The curried options are my favorite...chicken and goat. The oxtails are also a hit, as well as the chicken wings with curried jerk sauce. The staff is great with taking your order and describing the available options. The owner is also a great person, making sure you have a great experience. The restaurant is located at the far end of the Food Lion shopping plaza. Plenty of available parking in the plaza. Imagine going to a Chinese restaurant in the pouring rain and seeing a Carribbean restaurant right next door to a side that you almost tripped over. Well that's exactly what happened. I walked in and looked at the menu and fell upon the fish dish. The waitress told me or would be 25 minutes for my dish and I told her that's fine... I will wait. First time customer. Overall, place was clean and colorful, staff was friendly, but food was average and salty. I tried the grilled fish sandwich and the taste was actually pretty good. I couldn't tell what the sauce was made of but it complimented the fish really well... however, the fish was a really thin piece of tilapia about 2"x5". The beef Jamaican patty was great and what I was expecting in terms of taste... but the fact that I can buy a golden krust package for less and have a bigger patty is not ok. The last item I bought is the chicken roti wrap... the dish was very basic as it only had chicken, potatoes, and curry inside a roti slide.. sort of... taste was good but the bones were all still in the chicken, it had too much liquid, and it was way too salty. On this trip I tried the rotisserie chicken, cornbread & black eyes peas and rice. The white meat chicken was cooked perfectly! It was extremely tender and full of seasoned juices. The skin was soft and dripped of the tangy yet spicy sauce all throughout. Not too much; but enough to chase the meat with. The peas and rice had an incredible heat to them! Not in temperature; but in spice. They played well with the tangyness from the sauce. The cornbread was not a hit to me. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but the food almost killed me today. I'm deathly allergic to fish. I found a hard, brown piece of food stuck to my jerk wings. I ripped it off. Upon inspecting it, not only did it not look like chicken, but it STRONGLY smelt of fish. Genuinely, I haven't been this flabbergasted in years. I haven't had a bad reaction to seafood since I was a child and was subsequently tested for it, so if I would've continued eating the chicken, I would have a hefty hospital bill. Notwithstanding, the rest of the food was a travesty. The mac and cheese was very bland and had large chunks of onions, the cabbage wasn't that great because there wasn't a lot of juice, the cornbread and the chicken patty were soggy and looked undercooked (also, what is it with this place never filling up the patties all the way? They're always flat and look sad. I'm Jamaican, fill those patties to the brim!). And finally, the plantains my mom and I shared. They were dry, hard, and not very flavorful. According to my mom, she didn't like her food either. She found a twig of some sort in her greens (no I'm not exaggerating, it was in fact a small twig. I guess she knows more about struggle foods than I do, because according to her, the greens tasted like they were straight out of a can.). She also didn't like the seafood she had--shrimp, scallops, and some sort of fish?--from what I saw, it was very greasy and there was more breading than seafood. She literally picked all of the breading off. It also smelt terrible too. Yeah, this place used to be really good when my mom and I first moved near Charlotte in 2016. They have some meat pies, but other than that I wouldn't call this place traditional other than that. Kind of Americanized. Still great food though. I love their cakes! Seriously, try a piece. The coconut cake is my absolute favorite! Itried the Caribbean jerk wings, crab cakes and plantains. The plantains are the perfect crunch, and soft texture. They were cooked to perfection. The wings have great flavor and the crab cakes are delicious! They are a bit spicy but there is a sauce you can add to them that cools the spice a bit. The crab cakes are worth trying. The customer service generally is great, however the day iwent, there was a guy that took my order that seemed attitudinal. Food was great, still, so that's why they'll get 5 stars from me- guess he was having an off day. A friend took me to Anntony's in the distant past but at that time, the food was just so-so so when my date suggested we go again, I was only a little excited. One time should not make or break a place so we went. Upon arrival we were seated and our drink order taken. Our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. There was music playing at a comfortable level and the establishment was clean and colorful. Both my date and I ordered Ox Tails, Cabbage, Rice and peas and it was served with Corn Bread. Our food arrived within minutes of being ordered. The food was so fast, it was if they were waiting for our arrival which was a pleasant surprise and very rare in the restaurant industry. Sometimes you just need to eat something that nurtures your soul without waiting 45minutes for it to be ready or worrying about it being fried...well, maybe that's just me. At any rate Anntony's on WT Harris is a solid place for some good Jamaican food. I have been there several times ordering different things. My favorites are the baked island wings, beef patties, ox tail, curry goat and callaloo greens (the rice and peas are a given). The service is always friendly and the portions are good. You can also get delivery via UberEATS. In all honesty, there have been days where the seasoning hasn't been quite right, usually just low on salt. Otherwise, always well cooked and tender. I have noticed these inconsistencies less and less though so maybe they have a new cook/chef. Nothing has every been to the point where I haven't wanted to return. read more

This place is wonderful! I've been on multiple occasions and tried different items from their menu and all of them have been great! The decor is a Caribbean Theme with a hand painted mural on the wall (see one of the attached pictures). You come in and seat yourself and a moment or two someone brings you a menu (I've never had to wait extra long for service...even when it's packed). The place is casual and they play Caribbean music sometimes but I have yet to hear anyone who actually works there or cooks the food have a Caribbean accent....who cares the food is excellent. My favorites are their crab cakes. You can get these as an appetizer and they come out over Red Leaf Lettuce with a vinegar sauce sprinkled on top. Succulent, fresh, full of flavor and the Caribbean tarter sauce that accompanies them parallel to the flavor. You can buy this sauce to take home also...I bought some to serve with some crabs cakes I was making for our seafood Christmas. The last time I choose to order the Crab Cake Sandwich, with Calypso Collard Greens, and Rasta Pasta. The Calypso Greens have sauteed garlic and onions mixed in with a mild spicy vinegar taste added. The Rasta Pasta is noodles with cabbage and carrots added. Everything was good (see the attached picture) and I ate everything! They also have great Beef Patties, Wings, and Rotisserie Chicken. You can find a coupon for them in the yearly coupon book letting you get a meal free when you purchase one. So if you want to try them out and not fork over a lot of cash then use this coupon but I'm telling you that you will not be disappointed. Solid 4 stars for Anntony's! I must admit I had not expected to eat here the day I tried this place out, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were even calling the place "Anthony's" before we got there... man it's always nice and humbling to look up and read what you had been calling the place for the last 30minutes was really incorrect. My stupidity aside, we walked in and the place really is decorated to the nines with the "Caribbean theme" and I really liked the used of the tall ceilings to display the nation's flags. Very casual and laid back... the servers were very friendly... I think my co-workers said we had to beat the lunch crowd, so I bet this place can get pretty packed. I chose to go with the pork sandwich with mixed vegetables and plantains. Had to wait the longest compared to my buddies, but it was worth the wait... The waiter even came by with a piece of cornbread for me to much on. My plate was cleaned and I was super glad I had saved my plantains for last... :) I definitely have plans to come back and try the chicken! read more

The Mac and cheese was dry, though it did have a perfect amount of cheese. Maybe the batch I had just cooked to long. The jerk chicken wings were not great. There was no umph to the skin of the chicken. The server was friendly and attentive, so that was a plus. Like I said, maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but, I was not impressed. We came here last night because I've heard really good things about their Caribbean food. When we arrived, we were seated immediately without any waiting. I wasn't expecting it but they had live music which was an added plus cause I love live music and the musician was singing some Bob Marley classics. The wait staff wasn't horrible but I've had better. The food was good. I had the ribs and now I see why they are called Succulent Ribs on the menu...because they were exactly that lol. The issue we had with the menu was that we couldn't order the oxtail or the stew chicken dinners because they didn't have any more. That sucked cause we really wanted the oxtail too. You would think they would be overly stocked with food on a Friday night but apparently not. On another note, to the owner who has all of the flags from the Caribbean hanging from the ceiling, I politely ask that you please add the Haitian flag up as well. I came to Anthony's Caribbean Cafe for the first time on Sunday. I was extremely pleased with all the food I received for just $12. I ordered the brown chicken special with over rice, with mac and cheese, and black beans. The food was delicious! They give me a large portion I had enough to eat before work and I have some for left over for when I return from work. Today was the first time I have visited this restaurant and it will also be my last. I was not impressed with the Cuban Pork Roast, Calypso Rice and Slaw. First off, normally, Cuban pork roast is made from a butt roast or pork shoulder, not a dry store bought pork loin. Someone left the bay leaves in the cooked rice and them chopped up. The food was disgusting. This is not authentic West Indian cuisine. I ordered Aunty Pam's fried fish with a side of Rasta Pasta and seasoned fries...everything was absolutely disgusting. The fish was mushy and bland. The seasoned fries were heavily seasoned with black pepper. They were gross. The Rasta pasta was also heavily seasoned with black pepper. Rasta pasta is supposed to be drenched in a creamy alfredo-like sauce. Anntony's version is dry and tastes strongly of black pepper. They also use a different type of noodle that I'm not used too. Usually penne pasta or bow tie pasta is used in Rasta pasta. Anntony's used Angel hair. I also noticed that the chef was not West Indian. I would prefer someone from the culture to cook the food since they would have a better understanding of the flavors. read more
