The barista took note of my book and was nice to have someone actually engaged and seemed interested. She was considering reading it herself. Stopped in Anodyne Coffee for some Saturday morning coffee, eats, and cribbage time with my favorite mister. Somehow, we'd never been in here but I'm so glad that's changed. For my coffee, I got their turtle mocha made with almond milk. It was good. For my bites, I got a french onion scone, which was amazing. I also ordered an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich which came on the most pillowy english muffin imaginable. It was light and fluffy and had a slight sourdough flavor that was just delightful. The service was lovely and the space is comfortable. It's large inside so even on a Saturday morning, we were easily able to find a spot to sit. It looks like they have a stage so not sure is they have any musical events or poetry readings etc, but the space is certainly set up for it. They also have some outdoor sidewalk picnic table seating for pleasant weather. One note, I'm not 100% sure there is an accessible entrance--the entrance we went into, required navigating a short flight of stairs in order to get into the space. We noticed there was a sign on the door that they were closing early for a private event (a wedding!) so they're definitely set up to be an event space as well. Will definitely put this spot on the regular rotation. Get to it! read more

It's a love-hate thing for me... I love the vibe at this location. My solopreneur group has been meeting here since January (2025). We dig the wide open vibe and the background music is usually decent. The staff is friendly. The coffee is good although hit or miss on the bold flavor that I like. Pastry options are yummy. The ample seating and long tables make it a great place for groups. I confess that my group is particular about the chairs - there are some cushioned and metal options. We opt for the cushioned when we can snag them! So for the hate part... In this world where we vote with our dollar, I'm annoyed that this is owned by a firm that is backed by private equity. As an entrepreneur, I'm all about supporting the little guy - the mom and pop shops - my community. Also, equally annoying, I hate that the workers had to unionize and fight for a decent wage. I stopped here because I had heard that they have burlap bags from the coffee beans that they give away for free! Sure enough they do! The gentleman who helped me and pointed me in the right direction and told me take as many as I want. He was so nice. The ambience is so beautiful in there. I ended up buying a few boxes of k cups coffee as well. That was the least I could do. And honestly, I'm excited to try the coffee. Absolute BLAST coming up to Milwaukee for the evening from Chicago to catch our favorite musician, Peter Mulvey, playing a gig at Anodyne! It is the perfect venue for a mid-size show. Amazing acoustics. Plenty of seating. We are not coffee drinkers, but were able to get yummy cold fizzy drinks to enjoy during the show. This is really the perfect setting for a concert!! Dropped in for a quick coffee. It was midday and they weren't very busy. The staff were all just kind of hanging around...none of them very friendly. I said hello, the cashier said nothing. Said thank you after he charged me. Blank stare. Ok... then the barista same thing. I said thanks, have a good day. Nothing. Anyways... coffee was good. Strong and bold. It had notes of chocolate. They use quality oat milk. Overall a solid cortado. The space is massive. I assume they do events here too. Really nice to come and work from during the day. read more

Until recently, I had no idea that this location also doubled as an event venue. My friend recently was married here and it was a wonderful evening all around! Having been in the wedding as a bridesmaid, I feel like I got a bit more of the BTS in terms of planning and execution. You can tell the Anodyne team was on top of their game! They seemed super organized and we're helping in facilitating the whole ceremony. I thought all the decor was well done and matched the rustic space, too. Can't recall the guidelines around food catering, but the buffet-style eats we had we really enjoyable. I will point out however, that hard-alcohol is a no-go here. I'd imagine it's because they don't have the licensing? They're unable to serve cocktails or really anything that doesn't come in a can. I'll say though, the canned-cocktails were surprisingly good! Beer was the other popular drink of the night. This wedding was a little over 100 people and it felt like the perfect size for the venue. All of this to say, if you're looking for a great coffee shop OR a great event venue, here's a great option! read more

Anodyne is a solid local spot with a few locations around. I frequent the Walker's Point locations and the stand in the Milwaukee Public Market. The Walker's Point location has a stage where they sometimes host live music. The cafe of course doubles as a really great place to work during the daytime, with tons of tables and outlets on the walls. There's plenty of free street parking around which is a huge plus too. Anodyne's fall 2024 drink specials include a maple pie spice latte, a sea salt sage latte, chaider and an espresso tonic with cinnamon and vanilla syrup. My favorite drink I've ever had at Anodyne was their blackberry crumble latte that they served this summer. I hope they bring it back! If you're hungry, they've got a few pastries, but you'll have to go elsewhere if you want anything more hearty. read more

Awesome cafe in downtown Milwaukee with a delectable selection of coffee and tea drinks and baked goods. The interior space is massive, the perfect space for events or larger group hangouts/light working, and there are a bunch of tables outside too for when the weather is warmer. I tried the lavender espresso tonic, the matcha latte, and the flourless banana bread. The espresso tonic was wonderful, acidic, tart, and the lavender added a delicious, sweet kick to it. We were only in town for a couple days, but happy to have found this place. Very spacious inside and loved how the coffee bar took after an actual bar. They do have a stage and if you're wanting to be there without being a part of the event, they do have additional tables in the back. Went with the Frosty and a cold brew. If you enjoy the taste of coffee without the strong punch, the Frosty is perfect. I have been coming to this place for my afternoon pick me up. I loved the atmosphere and the live bands on the weekends. Last 3-4 months different story. Today when I came we were not even acknowledged or god forbid greeted. I ordered two dark chocolate frappes and the lady with a snake tattoo on her arm clearly did not know what she was doing. I should've tried my frappe while in the store. Instead I drive off back to the office and realized that the frappe was just huge chunks of ice that you could not drink through the straw. I've come here twice now for the monthly storytelling event, The Moth, and I've been amazed by how well the space gets utilized. The ambiance with the holiday decorations is lovely. The smell of coffee fills the air. They have 1 gender neutral restroom and then 2 gendered bathrooms. The line for drinks moves quickly. They serve beer and wine as well, plus cute merch. First time visit. Very nice place inside with friendly knowledgeable employees. The coffee I had was one of the best cups of coffee I had in sometime. It was so good I decided to buy a bag to take home. That was until I saw the price. A 12 ounce bag(3/4 pound) of coffee was $24.00. I don't expect the prices to be competitive with Costco however, $24.00 for 3/4 pound of coffee is pretty pricey. Love the vibe at this Anodyne location! Since it's close to my work, I've used this location for one on one meetings, a quick pick me up, or a coffee order for my teammates. Looks like they do a decent amount of private events and weddings too. Beverages are always made perfectly, but that does come with a wait sometimes. I've waited upwards of 10 minutes for a drink on busy mornings, so maybe not the spot to stop if you're in a hurry. Service is always friendly. This is a really cool venue! I went here for The Moth story slam and was surprised to see how big the space was. It had a small coffee shop vibe yet had plenty of space to comfortably seat a large crowd. There is plenty of street parking outside, but make sure to read signage and not park in private property. I ordered a hot chocolate made with oat milk and it was very tasty, but could have been a bit hotter. The baristas handled serving the large amount of people very well. Grabbed a coffee and a bagel here in the morning on a Sunday. The coffee options were plentiful. I went with a small seasonal coffee- maple pumpkin pie. It was sweet so I am glad I only ordered a sma but the perfect fall treat. 3 of us also ordered bagels and the cream cheese was a spread your own style- however it wasn't just the Philadelphia packets it was a small container of creamy heavy cream cheese. It was perfect. Our order seemed to take a very long time for nobody else being there but alas I can get past that. The inside was cute and decorated. Interesting mix of reclaimed wood made tables throughout, some makeshift bar seats line the walls, and some of the chairs look liked they were pulled right from an old science lab classroom. This spot hipster? Definitely. It also looks like they host live band performances as there's a stage that looked to be completely hooked to a sound system. Talk about a multi-use space. Anyways, came by here to really just catch up on some work over the weekend. Overall a great environment. I did a house mug of coffee ($1.80) and had a choice of two different blends. Went with the Nicaragua and it was fantastic. The coffee snob in me is slowly coming back alive.
