Attached they are, but two totally different businesses. That said ... the GLC is one of the most technically advanced learning and conference centers I've ever been to. While it's not frou-frou like some hotel ballrooms or meeting spaces, it's WIRED and ready to handle just about anything. Touch-screen panels for running your presentation. Double-screens for concurrent presentations. And the amphitheater rooms are fantastic! Continuous breaks ... friendly staff ... ample room ... it makes for the package deal. If you need to hold a meeting, give these guys a try.

The first workshop I attended was an intro to Adobe Illustrator. We had people of many different professional backgrounds in attendance. Although the class was beginner, they also answered the questions of those with a little more experience. When the presenter did not know the answer, the group may have chimed in to help. (Did I ever mention I love Atlanta) The most recent workshop I attended was the Transferable Skills workshop led by Nita Penn. This session was amazing! It was interactive, relevant, high energy, and applicable to our everyday lives. Nita was well prepared, fun, energetic, and inspiring. A lot of times we take workshops that work on our hard skills and it was nice that General Assembly scheduled something to help us learn about soft skills and how they can be transferable and applicable in various situations. I hope to see Nita continue to lead workshops at this location. I can guarantee that as she starts doing more workshops on various topics I will for sure be there with my friends! I am looking forward to building my personal and professional portfolio and am thankful for the opportunities that General Assembly is providing at such a reasonable cost.

I originally stopped by in search of pottery classes--and was delighted to find not only that they offer them, but also that a new session begins on October 13th. In addition, there's a Fall Break Art Camp for grades 2-5, where children will experiment with a range of media including watercolor, acrylics, and collage. As I walked through the space, I was able to watch artists at work and enjoy the current gallery exhibits on display. The atmosphere was inspiring and welcoming. Adult fall classes--running October 6th through December 13th--are also available, covering both visual and ceramic arts. Each class is taught by individual instructors, making it approachable for students of all levels. Best of all, online registration makes it simple to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that such a wonderful resource has been right in my neighborhood all along. It was a great experience, and I've already registered for pottery classes--something I'm really excited about! If you're looking for a place to explore your creative side, I highly recommend checking out the Art Center. Great value for 8 weeks art class at $280

For the prices, you get good service. I can't say great, but I do understand that they're learning so I'm not going to knock them. Next, I started to get pedicures. It's so crazy that you have to get it on the record as I have. At first you give them grace because they are a school. They'll even ask for grace. But after months of experiencing what can only be described as a wild goose chase of chaos, you hit a point where you have to say, "NO! This is no longer about grace". This is about fundamental structural and organizational failure. What I experienced went far beyond minor mistakes or student learning curves. And after speaking with a rep from the Barber and Beauty industry, it's clear that Georgia Career Instirute has systemic problems, not one-off oversights. The Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers require strict compliance with sanitation, infection control, client safety, supervision and operational protocols. This means at the very least, having fully functional sinks where gook is not coming out and making sure all sinks have continuous hot water. You can't wash relaxer out in cold water. But again, this is minor, however, it undermines sanitation, safety, and basic professional standards. Think about it. If a school can't reliably provide hot water, it signals a much larger breakdown in oversight, infrastructure and accountability. Again, this is minor. There are way bigger problems over here, and I'm certain if the State Board did a random visit and/or disguised as a client, this entire school would be shut down. I do NOT recommend this school under any circumstances and believe it should be fully dissolved to protect students, clients, and the integrity of the profession.
