AnShu is an Asian Cafe tucked into the new VIllages area by the new Publix. Reasonably new and bright interior welcomes you with a few seats at a bar, i was in a hurry so hopped to the bar and ordered. The food came out hot, had ordered white rice but it came out brown. Additionally most dishes on the menu state whether they are fried or not, this one was not, so I ordered it thinking i was being healthy but in turn it was breaded and friend and covered in a sugary sauce. I think if I am back in the area I'd chose another spot. read more

My husband tried to warn me about Anshu and I thought he was overreacting but I should've listened! He's been a few times and said their food is bland, flavorless, despite seeming as though it would be full of flavor. It's in a quiet neighborhood bordering a pretty bougie living community so I shouldn't have been surprised at the blandness but I was. I got chicken fried rice I think and it was truly so bland and there were no offered flavor enhancers like soy sauce. It was ok but absolutely not worth the cost. The service was very friendly and the overall restaurant vibes were unoffensive to the point that they barely had any decorations up. Just a bland atmosphere overall. I wish I could've liked it but it was disappointing. I can make better Asian fusion in my home kitchen and save a lot of money next time. read more

I'm vegan so I can't speak about how good the non-vegan food is here. Normally I'm wary about eating vegan food at non-vegan restaurants, but I noticed that they have written on the menu something that says they can make most dishes vegetarian or vegan.... Because of this I felt reasonably confident that they understood what "vegan" means and would be able to accommodate me. Well things didn't start out great as we asked our server about vegan options and they didn't seem to know what could be made vegan. We asked about the "wok favorites" on the menu (you can choose marinated tofu as an option) and were told after we ordered that the marinated tofu could not be made vegan. So about half the menu we'd been eyeing was not available for us at that point. I ordered a noodle dish with plain tofu (the only vegan protein available). I made it clear that I would like the dish to be vegan and it came out made with eggs. They remade it for me, but it just wasn't good. Wasn't good before they remade it when I took a bite and realized it had egg and wasn't good when it was remade. The noodles were way over cooked and slimy and the flavor wasn't great. Disappointed with this place in every way and would not return. And on top of everything else it's way too expensive for the quality of food. read more

I really underestimated this place; I was expecting a cornstarch-heavy joint with minimal ambiance. In point of fact, this was one of the few restaurants in a ritzy area, and it was a nice indoor space with an ad board geared towards equestrian enthusiasts. The menu promises the ability to make most menu items vegetarian or vegan with tofu. I opted for a tofu kebab dish which isn't commonly offered. Grilling is a delicious way of preparing tofu, and theirs was marinated in something that was tasty and salty. Like most of their menu options, this came over garlic sautéed green beans, which is fine by me, with a small portion of rice (the option was given to just do green beans if you don't want the carbs). My appetizer was some cabbage-heavy spring rolls, which I'm fine with as it brings balance to the meal, which came with some very powerful sweet chili and mustard sauces. There aren't a ton of places to go in South Carolina for Chinese food, let alone vegetarian friendly. Even on a Monday, this place was doing solid takeout business with the occasional person eating in, and I would certainly recommend it over most plausible alternatives. read more

I don't know why I thought i took more photos than the entrance and bar.... but apparently I didn't (sorry in advance). They were very busy when I stopped by... good ambiance and lighting. located in a residential neighborhood. they had a good selection of beer and wine. host was very friendly and welcoming. We got the salt and pepper flounder which was very tasty... though I think they may have forgotten to pack the chili oil. Food was still very good without it. I've come to AnShu several times to try and be convinced that it's not just incredibly average, but i leave each time feeling a little unsatisfied and confused about the hype. I've tried foods across the whole menu, and they are just extremely average. The good thing is i haven't had anything bad here, just nothing that left me feeling like I'd want to come back. Their dishes in general could use more spice and flavor, but i think for their main clientele (older retirement community), what they offer is exactly what the community wants. Pork Potstickers were large and tasty. The Moo Shu Chicken was large and tasty. However, the the pancakes were understeamed so they immediately cracked when folded. I've been to Anshu several times for lunch and have never been sorry. The other day I went for dinner. I have to say I wasn't as impressed as usual. I started with Miso soup. I have always been well pleased with it. This time it was more bland than usual. Just a few small pieces of tofu and a few pieces of spinach. I added some soy sauce and it tasted like soy sauce. In spite of being very busy, my meal came out very quickly. perhaps a bit too quickly. This made me think that they heated it up, rather than cooking it then. I ordered the Korean steak and fried rice. The flavor of the Korean steak was spot on, but the steak was very chewy. When I took a bite, the veggies, sauce and and flavor were all gone and was still chewing the meat. That put a bit of a pall over the dish. The veggies were not crisp and didn't have that "just cooked" texture. They were actually mushy. Again, it seemed to have been microwaved. The fried rice appeared to be left over from lunch. It was gummy and stuck together. Like the Korean steak it seemed like left overs. The other thing that made me think it was microwaved was the heat of the plate. The plate was very hot. Hotter than it would be if the food had been cooked and plated. As I said, I have had several good experiences at Anshu. Maybe this was an off night. Maybe the regular chef was out and someone was filling in. Whatever, I will be back. I have had too many good meals there to black list them over one disappointment. read more

This restaurant is very clean and comfortable it looks to be in a newer building outside of the largest gated community in Aiken. I know many of the inhabitants of said community love it and it was recommended to us by one such person. We were immediately greeted by a friendly employee and seated right away. The table was spotless and there was no food or smears of old condiments on the wall next to us. I can't tell you how off putting that can be. The menu is not extensive and they seem to have many favorites covered. We each ordered different things, one was a fish special and the other off the menu. Food arrived quickly and was very bland. I must underline the descriptor bland. We asked for a bottle of soy sauce just to try to get more flavor. Then of course it's very salty but still bland. The fish dish seemed like frozen breaded fish filets or pieces were used. I can't be certain of course but it did not seem handmade. It wasn't terrible just lackluster. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. We give the service 5 stars. read more

This is like a hidden gem. Nestled inside one of Woodside's Villages, this restaurant is pretty good. I ordered the Garlic Green Beans w/ chicken and vegetable fried rice. The green beans were slightly on the salty side for me, but everything else was good. I cleaned my plate. We love this place, the food is delicious. Our usual order is the crab wontons, salt and pepper flounder and chicken kebabs. My husband who usually doesn't care for Asian food is obsessed with the flounder. It's always perfectly seasoned and crisp. My son loves the chicken kebabs, the flavor and char are perfect every time. The service is also phenomenal. We've had the owner as our server a couple times and he is great. Always so efficient and friendly, as well as the other servers we've had. The place itself is very clean and they seem to have many regular customers mainly from woodside. The food is a bit pricey, but because of the quality of the food, we are more than happy to pay. read more

I had lunch with a few coworkers and the meal was subpar. I feel that the amount of protein is lacking fir what you pay. Sparse remnants of chicken on top but after a few bites, not much underneath. A wonderful 'hidden' gem tucked away in The Village at Woodside neighborhood. It's not difficult to locate but you'll be wondering where your GPS is taking you. Honestly, this is the most unique and upscale Asian fusion experience you'll find for miles around. It reminds us of a similar place we enjoy in Columbia, but this one is a little closer to home. Hubby and I have been here too many times to count that it's a shame I've failed to write a review until now. First up, we always get the port wonton soup. The owner tells us they make this fresh daily and is it by far the best we've ever had anywhere. Unlike others that have formed my general dislike for wonton soup- theirs is not a salty overpowering broth that leaves a yucky aftertaste. To the contrary, Goldilocks would say "this is just right"- the perfect start to your meal. One thing we love about the dishes is they do not try to over fluff with needless ingredients and pizazz. The meals are simply flavorful dishes with enticing aroma that please your palate with undeniable goodness. My personal favorite is the Salt and Pepper Flounder which comes with rice and green beans. This dish is also available with shrimp or chicken. Currently they also have a Crab Fried Rice special which hubby truly savored. Make sure you check the board at the entrance for current specials! We got the honey walnut chicken which came on a generous portion of fresh veggies and the sauce on the side with a side of rice, general Taos chicken with broccoli and side of rice, kids sweet and sour chicken with rice was a large portion, and crab wontons had great flavor. I'm wondering if this review was necessary because the restaurant is already getting many good reviews. It did earn the 5-stars though... So I patroned this restaurant last week and I was part of a group. Before coming here, I did not read the reviews, the menu, nothing... totally blind. But I can say that I was very pleased. The decor and environment was definitely a step above plain/casual and the service was in-par. The speediness that our orders were filled was VERY fast, I'm guessing that they had already started making the entrees to have primed for the time the order comes through and they can serve in literally a couple minutes. Our waiting time was about 5 minutes for our group of 8 for everyone to get their plate. I ordered a Mongolian beef. The dish came out promptly, the portion size was satisfactory, the entree was warm and fresh. There was a medium-level spiciness, much less than what I am accustomed to, but to give it some flavor without overwhelming the rest of the entree's flavor; it was good. The meat was tender and delicious and the vegetables were fresh and tasted good; the balance of meat-to-veges was appropriate as was the presentation of the entree as a whole. The serving area was clean and orderly; we came for lunch, so we didn't see a huge, swelling of a crowd for them to tend to. They do offer a bar, so after-evening drinks could be a possibility. The table and table-servings were also clean. The restrooms were also clean and orderly, modeled well. The ambiance of the place was cozy and comfortable, but appropriate for the group lunch we were having. I would come back here w/ family or even just for a take-out for myself.
