Most people hate something about moving out of state. Maybe it's the packing, maybe it's getting used to different restaurants or stores. Me? It's finding a new person to cut my hair. My hair is *difficult*. It's way short, very fine, somewhat thin, and stick straight. It takes a really skilled person to keep it chic and feminine and not let it veer off into 'butch'. It took me several attempts in Boston to find the right person before I found Michael at Persona (who cut my hair for 10 years), and then in NYC it took a few less-than-stellar cuts before I found Collette at Alice Hair. I came to Lynchburg, and my mom recommended Zandra at Anthony and Company, and I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best, because, you know, I've never walked into a salon and had the first person who cut my hair turn out to be the person I wanted to cut it the next time. But Zandra did a bang up awesome job the very first time. Even my wayward cowlick behaved after she cut my hair. The salon itself is also great - nice space, very comfortable waiting area, etc. Everyone I've met there has been very nice, and Zandra is a lot of fun to chit chat with while she's cutting my hair. And I LOVE that she rinses your hair after a cut (but before blowing it dry) to rinse out all the little pieces of hair that would otherwise drift onto your clothes or end up making your face itch. So I went to Anthony's salon because my girlfriend told me about it but honestly it was the biggest mistake ever. When I came the prices were not clear, after 10 minutes waiting I was taken inside salon, my hair was cut and washed. When I came home and checked my haircut it was terrible, and I felt very overcharged. In my whole life I never been charged $50 for a haircut. As a male my haircut takes 15 minutes, it's not a complicated one. So I felt like a paid all that money just to wash my hair. Honestly Great Clips does a better job and it's only $15. Even after reading the few bad reviews, I gave this place a try. I was on vacation and in town for a wedding. At the last minute I wanted to pamper myself and since I was staying at a nearby hotel it seemed convenient. When I fist went in I found the receptionist nice but nothing special. They had no openings for an all over color but found a spot for me the next day... which I appreciated. After I left (about 45 min later), I got a call that they had a cancellation and I could have my service after all, so I promptly headed back. I had requested a full color and perhaps some highlights.... but the stylists only did my roots. At first I though she may have wanted my roots to have more time and would be back to do the rest of my hair. No, that's not what she did. When she came back and was checking my hair, I told her I had wanted an all over color...she said she had misunderstood because she saw I had highlights. That didn't make sense since I hadn't had any highlights in over 3 years. I told her that would be my gray hair and split ends which was what I was trying to cover up....but she said that I should be fine and it should look good. Not wanting to argue in a place unfamiliar to me.. I kept quiet and smiled. The color initially looked nice but the next day I could see my split ends as they stood out along side the new color on my roots! After I got back home to AZ, I was going through my receipts and realized I still got charged and I tipped on an all over color job! I paid $80 vs $65... sucks that I didn't catch that right away... I just trusted that they were honest. I guess it's a good thing I don't live there because I don't think I would go back for hair services. i gave it a three stars because I also had my eyebrows done the same day and I throughly enjoyed that service... otherwise it would have been 2stars. I got married in Forest, Va and live 3 hours away. I decided with Anthony and Co for my wedding hair and makeup. The interior of this salon is beautiful and I loved the sitting area where my bridesmaids and myself got to hang out during the morning. When I was getting my hair done I specifically said I wanted to be able to see my hair from a front view and I did not want it tight to my head. My stylist did exactly what I asked her not to. Then when she asked if I liked it and I said no she got an attitude and said she didn't know how to help me then. Another stylist came over and fixed it the first time. I'm giving Anthony & Co Salon one star because it's a requirement to give them at least one. I can honestly say that I received the worst coloring of my life at this salon. I'm not one who is unfamiliar to paying a pretty penny for my hair. In fact, being a college student, it's the one thing I actually splurge on. To begin, the stylist started 20 minutes late when I was already on a tight schedule. I should also note that I was at the salon for five hours... FIVE! I will say that I have a lot of hair but I've had the same service done by other stylists in a third of the time. When the stylist spun the chair around I immediately knew I didn't like it. The color just wasn't right at all. But I decided I was going to bite the bullet and put on a happy face to save myself from an awkward situation. HUGE mistake. When I got home and really looked at the hair I realized how bad of a coloring job it really was. The coloring didn't go to my roots: It looked like I hadn't gotten my hair colored in 6 months. It wasn't blended at all and it was the most blotchy job I've ever seen. Furthermore, when I ran my fingers through it I noticed how fried it was. I have always prided myself on keeping very healthy, shiny hair. It now feels like straw. I'm going into another salon Monday to see if there's anything I can do. If they tell me my hair has been damaged and I have to cut it I will be VERY unhappy. I would like to note that the stylist was very kind and sweet. My review is nothing personal against her, just the reflection of her skills on the salon as a whole. Now looking back I should have realized she wasn't up to the task with all the questions she asked. I now know she asked so many not because she wanted to make sure she was understanding what I wanted but because she was uncertain and wasn't confident in her ability to provide me with the result I desired. The salon itself is great and very appealing looking. I told the hairdresser I wanted about 3/4 inches off and medium layers and she told me I only needed 2 inches. I again told her what I wanted, after all, this is my haircut and what I want. She cuts my hair, dries, then asks me if I like it. She only cut about 2 inches off and I told her I wanted more cut off. She was very nice and again cut more off. The hairdresser says to me "I didn't give you many layers, I only did long layers." Well, I asked for medium layers. I went to check out and my total for a standard hair cut was $48. Let me repeat that, $48. I asked for what that all included and I was told I was charged extra because my hair is long. This is the most ridiculous up-charge to me. Whether my hair is long or short, you're still cutting it just the same. It's not like I was using color product where I can expect to pay a little extra because of my length. But for a simple cut, really? If there is an extra charge for my hair being long, I should have been told BEFORE my haircut. Also, I didn't see this policy posted anywhere. After getting home my hair was uneven on both sides and I had to fix it myself. Pretty positive I won't be going back to a place that doesn't cut how the customer wants, doesn't advise of extra charges, and can't cut evenly. read more

This review is for a brazilian/Sphinx wax by Megan. I get waxed regularly and this was one of the quickest, least painful waxes I have ever had. The soygum wax sticks to the hair, but not to the skin, so that the worst part of the wax - the top/mons area - is way less excruciating. I live three hours away and am seriously contemplating coming here for my waxing! Megan is an excellent technician. She's thorough and quick, and very personable. $55 without tip. read more
