Post cataract surgery; I don't see as well as I did BEFORE cataract surgery. Dr. Ellant says since my cataracts have been removed I can now see clearly that I CAN NOT SEE CLEARLY (??).Many floaters in my right eye were supposed to be eliminated by removing my cataracts. They weren't. Dr.Ellant tried to sell me $3000 implant-lenses (per eye), even though I am on Medicaid. This cost would have come out of my pocket. I declined. Then came the offer of $1800 lenses (per eye). I declined. Then he suggested that any eye drops I would need could be PURCHASED at his office. I declined. Dr. Ellant is quite slick; like a shifty used-car salesman.He is abrasive and somewhat of a bully.The staff employed there (at SIGHT MD) are professional and kind (with the exception of K.H., who is clueless about what her job entails). read more

Lack of respect towards's disabled patient's medical needs on behalf of management staff on 03/26/2021. Urgently referred by Dr. Marcus to Dr. Ellant to this location  to treat a glaucoma case. Contacted the clinic days before my appointment to be empathetic to the Covid-19 patients' prevention rules explained in their website and to inform them of my need of remaining with my caregiver (due to a mobility disability  at all times) while in the clinic to what they admitted it was fine. Today I showed up an hour earlier to my appointment "not by choice but to the fact that my medical transportation service did not take that long to get me from home to the clinic's location". Dr. Ellant's staff from the beginning showed an attitude of discontentment and as an alternative gesture on my behalf  (although I am a disabled person) I offered them I could come back close to my appointment time, which they agreed and told me to come back 5 mins before my appointment scheduled time. Prior leaving the clinic,  I asked if there were forms for me to fill out to what they responded "only 4 pages" easily completed when I came back?????? It was not possible for me  to come back 5 minutes before my appointment and instead I came back 15 minutes prior; instead of accommodating my disability needs they decided to send me out of the clinic into the street again, arguing that they were keeping the safe distance of patients in a place that is the size of a shoe box. My caregiver in an intent to make them realize how they could have addressed my special medical needs asked ....why they did not mentioned anything about arriving 5 minutes prior to the time scheduled of the appointment when they were initially contacted days before my appointment. One of the receptionist (caucasian looking) started arguing with my caregiver, not listening to what he was saying and pretending to be the victim to this unfortunate situation rendered to me as a patient. As a second time to be condescended to what we were asked for "we stepped out into the street  to wait for our original appointment time".  The same rude woman screamed from the clinic's door entrance inviting me only (not my caregiver) to come in to supposedly evaluate me prior seeing the doctor and insisted that my caregiver should remain outside until I met with the doctor. Just to make it clear both ( me and my caregiver had proper protective gear: 3 layered mask covering with filter, gloves and eye protection) I tried to explain to her the need of my caregiver to be with me at all times and she then responded  "ARE YOU COMING IN OR NOT". Dr. Ellant please be advised that I made a huge effort based on my disability and urgent referral to meet with you and due to your inconsiderate, rude inflexible attitude of the management  staff working at your clinic  I had no choice to take care of my well being rather than keep being mistreated by asking to be submitted to suden whims of such unprofessional and selfish staff. Is unfortunate whether or not you are directly or indirectly responsible for the poor initial service new patients requiring your specialty have to walk away with. I would advise you to really take into consideration the bad experience I went through by addressing immediately the nasty attitude receptionists have at this location otherwise these type of incidents will continue to happen. I am in complete agreement that "we all have the right to remain safe by any potential exposure to the covid-19  and as patients in need to medical professionals like you.... we are doing our part; if the clinic space is too small and the management staff is not empathetic to patients' needs then consider a way of resolving all these by not booking so many patients at once for such a small clinic and changing your management staff to people with the right kind attitude to represent you. Dr. Ellant seems fine, but i went in for a LASIK consultation and was told there would be no charge, that my insurance covered it, but then i was billed. When I asked what that was about, he told me that it is standard to do a regular exam with a consultation, even though I didn't ask for that. When he never replied, I emailed again and he told me he sent his message to the wrong email (not sure why he didn't just hit reply to my message). If you aren't worried about maybe spending more than you expected, this isn't an issue. read more

Dr. Ellant was unprofessional, rude, and made me feel uncomfortable. I went in for a prescription measurement. He wasn't clear with what he was doing and ended up giving me a drastically incorrect prescription. When I expressed concern during the appointment I was brushed off and hurried out. I had to find a new eye doctor to confirm the prescription's inaccuracy and measure correctly. read more

Dr. Ellant is a wonderful MD who truly cares for his patients. I've been a patient of his for about 4 years now and I have no complaints. There is a bit of a wait sometimes but it's never something that I've just been so fed up with that I left or got angry. I'd say the most I've ever waited was 45 minutes, which isn't bad at all. I work for an MD whose patients wait for up to 3 hours so it's nothing for me. I've also been to him during a lunch break and I was in & out quickly with enough time to grab a bite to eat and get back to my office without being late. He answers any and all questions I may have and never makes me feel rushed. I recently saw him because I was seeing flashes and spots and he did a thorough examination and determined that I needed to see a retina specialist. The specialist he referred me to is also a great MD and felt like he put me in great hands. I will be sticking with Dr. Ellant until whenever he decides to retire. read more

I've never written a review before but I've also never experienced such unprofessionalism from a clinic. Dr. Ellant himself seemed nice and professional, but when he prescribed a medication my insurance didn't cover I called the clinic literally around 15 times over the course of two months, day after day, to try to remediate this issue. Each time they said they would call me back and never did. I checked that my phone number was correct, I spoke to multiple different staff, including management, I am certain my phone works. I've never put more effort into trying to get a prescription and been consistently ignored or forgotten. I am truly not exaggerating when I say 15 times. Beyond frustrating, and the most unprofessional interaction I've had. There's nothing left to do but voice my frustration here, find another doctor, and eat the cost of the initial session. read more

It seems the other reviews for Dr. Ellant are actually reviews of "zocdoc" or other scheduling issues. This seems silly to me as the yelp page is for Dr. Ellant personally. I managed to squeeze into Dr. Ellant's busy schedule at the last minute for a badly scratched cornea. I am so grateful to have been referred to his office as he is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. Over the course of 4 weeks I saw him repeatedly for various check ups and updates and was impressed every single time with his bedside manner and sincere interest in my well being. Dr. Ellant gave me his personal number and INSISTED that I call him on Thanksgiving to let him know how I was taking to some new antibiotics. Please read that sentence over again because it was typical of my entire experience with him. INCREDIBLE DOCTOR. Whoever is reading this, you should first know that I never write reviews. I usually have a good experience and I thank a doctor and that's all. I'm a 27 year old girl from the Upper East Side and I'm an attorney at a big law firm. The reason I made an effort to write this review is because doctor Ellant went ABOVE and beyond for me and clearly does so for all of his patients. To start, I have something called VASO VAGAL, which means that I faint at any doctor. I can simply be just talking to a doctor and I faint. It's a genetic condition that has cursed my entire family. With that being said, I need a doctor who is skilled to handle me and who has great bedside manner. Doctor Ellant exceeded my expectations. I went to the doctor extremely nervous, yet eager to get lasik eye surgery. I wound up getting PRK (similar to Lasik) because of the shape of my cornea. The procedure itself was so easy. I did not feel one thing and doctor Ellant made me feel SO comfortable. He calmly talked me through the entire procedure and made it so seamless, I couldn't believe that I didn't feel a thing. I usually freak out when it comes to any procedure, but I really trusted that I was in the hands of a highly intelligent professional. I was in a bit of discomfort after the procedure (as expected) and doctor Ellant's office was so on top of my healing. They cared about me, checked in multiple times, and made themselves available to me for any questions and concerns I had (even on the weekends). I can see perfectly after 4 days from surgery. interestingly, i was a patient of Dr. Ellant's father when i was in my early thirties. I moved away from NYC and a couple of decades later moved back. By this time, Jonathan Ellant was a practicing ophthalmogist. My eyes are my life. there is no one i would rather trust than Dr. Ellant, father or son. Last week, I visited Dr. Ellant for an eye infection and never again will I visit him or this office. Not only was I seen by this incompetent doctor thirty minutes past my appointment time, but I was extremely rushed during my time with him. He started getting up to leave the exam room before I had to stop him to fully process the instructions he gave for the mediation. I can get over an arrogant doctor but what really pushed me to write this review are the deadly consequences of the rushed visit. After I picked up my medication (which he sent to the wrong pharmacy), I realized through my own research that the drug he prescribed had dangerous interactions with another medication I was currently taking. I confirmed with the pharmacist that the combination of the two drugs could cause serious damage to the brain and Dr. Ellant did not even bother to ask about my medical history. Perhaps this office is kinder to patients who are paying for a more lucrative eye procedures, but don't waste your time with him if you have actual eye concerns. read more

I work next door, so when I found out Dr. Ellant accepts my insurance I was very excited. I arrived on time with all paperwork filled out via Zocdoc, yet waited for 45 minutes before finally deciding to leave. I actually saw Dr. Ellant doing something with his cell phone near reception, no sense or urgency whatsoever, which only frustrated me further. When I told the front desk staff I had to leave and go back to work, as I had been waiting for 45+ minutes, they were polite but offered no apology for the wait. Such a disappointment. read more

When I came to Dr. Ellant, I was almost legally blind. It was so bad that I got on the wrong bus one night. I had very bad astigmatism and both my eyes had cataract..I was you g and it was a birth defect that happened to manifest itself at the last year of my graduate program. I was scared and Dr. Ellant saved my eyes. I now see almost perfectly without glasses or contacts . It's been eight years and I am still doing well! I am very happy. It appears all these negative reviews are regarding wait time, which is a shame. Any eye doctor (and I have been to many) always have a long wait time; thorough eye exams take a while. I saw Dr. Ellant again last week for an emergency and waited less than 15 minutes to be called. Not sure why anyone would think that they could go to any doctor appt during their lunch break. I was referred to this MD, waiting time 45 minutes, travel 2 hrs to sit in a waiting room for 45 minutes. An interview by a assistant, which the Dr did not took time to read it before he finally got to see me. I was treated like a robot, pushing me so quickly to get rid of me, I felt like a I was in his way, the prescription was incorrect, so fast did not give me more options to choose the lenses from. My pupils were dilated, and I asked for rolls plastic cover to protect my eyes, did not provided it, the assistant told they don't have it, I had to leave with dilated pupils, blurry vision, unsafe to walk like that, the lights from the traffics were very annoying , I developed headache. Never again would waste my time and money to be treated like unworthy patient. read more

The dr. might be good- but the staff here is unbelievably rude- I left several messages to schedule an appointment and they never returned my call! When someone finally decided to answer the phone she told me that they were understaffed and she had no idea why no-one called me back! with so many opthomologists out there- you would think he would want business and hire a decent staff! Outstanding experience. The caring staff, the highly professional and easy manner "big hair" woman, squeezed my emergency visit into a busy schedule. A caring physician who took the time to create a related conversation. He connected with the referring physician and confirmed the treatment plan. Dr. Ellant observed my concerns and used humor to give me some comfort. He didn't sugarcoat the diagnosis nor go into a protracted "what if". He set a follow up visit to see me while the other physician is away and showed true concern for my well being. I'm saddened by the negative reviews that are based on missed communication. I hope to tilt the scale in favor of Dr. Ellant and his professional reception desk personnel and let new patients know this doctor is a gem. read more

horrible! stay away!!! i had a scheduled and confirmed appointment booked through zocdoc. after travelling 1 hour to his office, i arrived only to have the staff tell me they have no record of my appointment. they then said the doctor won't be in for another 1-2 hours and that there are 14 people in the waiting room ahead of me. i had shown up at the properly scheduled appointment time, and yet i would have had to wait 3+ hours to be seen. what an awful way to run a practice! my visit was routine (not urgent), so if he knew there were massive delays, why wouldn't he contact me? i clearly left and will never return to dr. ellant. his membership with zocdoc deserves to be terminated!! read more

I had a dire eye emergency that rendered my vision useless before a photo shoot, and going to Dr. Ellant absolutely saved the day. He was very professional and efficient and didn't waste any time taking care of the issue. I came to his office from Brooklyn because he was in network with Oscar Insurance. As I walked out of the office they asked me for a payment of $125 for no more than 15 minutes with Dr. Ellant. This was a bit surprising, but I figured Oscar would reimburse me at some point. MONTHS later, I come to find that the actual price that his office has agreed to charge (with Oscar) for my treatment is $60, which is what was quoted on my Oscar insurance statement. DO NOT let them charge you the money as you walk out, but instead make them contact your insurance as that is why you are paying for coverage in the first place. Oscar confirmed that I was due back $65 for the over-payment. After contacting the office 4 times, it is now clear that Dr. Ellant has no intention of returning the money I am due. I find it extremely unsettling that a business in the health field can operate within these kinds of parameters, unlike ANY other respectable business that takes your cash in exchange for a service. While being a good doctor, he absolutely did not respect me as a paying customer. I will be sure to avoid him or any like him in the future. read more

I just created my account to write this review because I'm so enraged. I DO NOT understand how this doctor has his practice with the service he is providing. First off, just booking an appointment is a mission b/c 99% of the time you get the answering machine. If you do get that appointment, the wait time is ridiculous. Additionally, they never notify you if the doctor does not accept your insurance so you are left with ridiculous bills or you find out on your own the day of the appointment or procedure. I would not recommend this doctor/office to anyone! read more
