Only reason getting 2 star is bc the waitress was very nice, other wise it should be a 1 stars. Let's starts with appetizers. Crab stuffed mushrooms, $18. Got 3 tiny mushrooms with hard mozzarella cheese and mushy crab filling. Caprese $12. Super bland. Now to Dinner. Out of Prime Rib, out of Scallops, out of several other things. How is that possible. That shows it's poorly run. Wife got the Chicken Marsala, bland and had a hint of egg taste. Tagliolini alla Marea Special $39. Eggpasta with Naine lobster, gulf shrimp, scallops and lump crab meat. Since they were out of scallops, of course they offered extra shrimp. I laughed and said how about extra crab meat. I was told I'll have to ask. What's there to ask? You're out of scallops and shrimp are not equal to scallops. The dish only came with 3 shrimp, no extra lump crab meat and 2 fingernail size pieces of lobster and of course no scallops. The service we had was outstanding! The atmosphere was warm and clean, which was perfect for our table. There were four of us and had a nice dinner overall! Personally, I ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon for my app and the Pappardelle Ragu. My main meal was superb! The bread was served thickly sliced with a touch of oil. I had the house salad, which was fair. Some of the lettuce seemed wilted and snotty. My scallop appetizer was good, but the scallops had a very slight fishy taste, which was disappointing. Others in my group also enjoyed their meals. One thing to note - the drinks here are incredibly overpriced. A special cranberry martini was $18...a shot of Jim beam was $13. The drinks were of good portion, though. The desserts were also way overpriced. A slice of cake was $12...not worth it. For 4 of us, the bill was over $300, without the tip! read more

Hidden authentic Italian restaurant in the Antietam area. The staff are nice and the decorations give the restaurant a fun look. I ordered one of the special drinks, the Cynar Negroni, and it was an earthy twist on the classic Negroni. They give you enough cocktail for 2 drinks, so the value on the drinks is great. For food, we ordered the fried calamari. It was breaded how I prefer and enjoyable. My entree, Veal alla Anthony, was pretty average. There wasn't a ton of flavor, and it was drowned in a cream sauce. For the price, I expected better quality, but I'll return to give it another try. Anthony's Trattoria is an authentic Italian restaurant, a hidden gem in a suburban Antietam area neighborhood. Private party for an Italian family birthday, group of 32, from Noon-4PM on a Saturday. The ambiance, staff and food were all fabulous, and they did an amazing job of dealing with us. (Big smile!) We had originally thought we'd do a buffet when we started planning several months ago, but I guess Covid rules changed that plan. We had selected 5 items for the buffet, then those items were actually transformed to a mini-menu, for each guest to select and be served a plated meal. Personal touch: each guest had their own copy of said mini-menu at their place setting. It was a fantastic change in plan! Service from when we walked in was top notch, the gentleman server was so quick in taking and delivering drinks to guests as we milled about and socialized while waiting for our whole party. I can ALWAYS tell if an Italian place will be decent by the salad and bread, which were served here as accompaniments with all selections (except the entree salad). Salad was perfectly dressed (glistening but not drowning) in a house vinaigrette, and chopped salami, cheese, etc. Toasted garlic bread per person was a substantial size, and exactly the right level of toastiness. All entrees were just delicious! Service throughout the party was stellar, even while the main dining room was also quite busy. I'll start off with this - this was the worst dining experiences in my life. My wife and had a 4pm New Year's Eve reservation and decided to sit at the bar (1st two seats when you enter). Meal was nice but around 5:45pm (15-20 min before we were about to leave) a couple arrived and yelled out with slurring speech, "those are our seats, we have a 6pm reservation for those." This older couple was obviously drunk, was irritating other diners, and then continued to badger my wife and I. They sat 2-3 seats down the bar from and continued to berate my wife and I. She even started to act like a child and point her fingers in the air like a gunslinger, with continued slurring speech. And Marc (the bartender) was still preparing to serve them alcohol despite their obvious intoxicated behavior (must be regulars). Marc did nothing to have them stop. And the hostess actually walked away after witnessing them yell. After exchanging words with this sad, pathetic, child couple my wife and decided to leave. Please note, restaurant was completely mismanaged: one bartender working, 20-25 irate people waiting for a table, and the owner (bill) was no where to be seen. Bill may be the head chef but he had no idea -about the issues going on in the front of his house. All he was concerned about was making sure the food was making it out from the back of his house (kitchen). A few days went by and I stopped by the restaurant on a Sat to speak to Bill (owner). I knew he was their b/c his Maserati was parked out back. After asking one of his servers that I would like to speak to him about an incident that occurred at the bar on New Year's Eve the server said, "I'm not sure if he's here but Imll check." Sure enough, the server came back out from the kitchen and told me he wasn't available but please your name and number and he'll give you a call. LOL, his car is right outside. I leave my info and leave. No more than 15 min go by and I receive a phone call from Bill and I proceed to tell him about the incident. He said he became aware of the incident the following day and then tried to apologize for the couple's behavior. I asked him, "Why didn't your bartender take charge of the situation?" "Why did your bartender even allow them to sit at the bar and serve them alcohol?" "Why didn't your manager or hostess take control of the situation?" "And more importantly why didn't one of your staff member's tell you about what was happening?" Bill didn't have much to say - all he could muster up was, "Marc the bartender doesn't do well with confrontation and I'm sorry but I'll be happy to take care of your drinks the next time you come in to the restaurant." I answered, "There won't be a next time." "Put yourself in my shoes - would you want to dine at an establishment with the chance of running in to the same couple?" "Would you dine somewhere where your bartender(s) seem it's ok to serve individuals who are visibly intoxicated?" NO BLOODY WAY BILL! My wife and I would stop in to Anthony's about 3-4x/year BUT NEVER AGAIN. read more

1000% recommend. My husband loves the filet. Anything we have ever ordered is always incredible. The pasta is authentic and we always get doughballs with our meal. The portions are incredible and the mixed drinks are divine. Go hungry and enjoy the great staff. We never leave room for dessert but always take something with. So... I decided to give this place ONE last chance after my first experience, which was awful. I've had a few people who stated that maybe it was a fluke night, but I'm starting to realize that some people need to venture outside of their bubble and try "better food." Seriously, the one star upgrade was strictly because the service was so great. She answered all questions and did a great job keeping our drinks full. We started with the oysters and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were large as well as the oysters. However, the cocktail sauce was tbh... disgusting. It tasted like ketchup and seemed almost frozen. It wasn't a smooth consistency. I ordered the lobster fra Diablo, which I was super excited for. It came with a house salad, which was saturated in dressing. I barely touched it. My meal came and looked good. However, it was not the least bit spicy at all, so a huge disappointment. The worst part? The lobster was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife to cut through it. It was so chewy I opted out of struggling to consume the last couple of bites. For $40 (especially in Berks county), you would think that it would be superb. I can think of two other places that don't charge you near that and is far better. Overall, service improved. However, I will never be returning. The food just simply is overpriced and underwhelming. Came in for lunch and ordered peppermint espresso martinis w a friend. They tasted sickly of only peppermint w no espresso flavor. The drinks were almost clear and looked like iced tea. We did not drink more than two sips each bc they were really undrinkable. We asked if they could be removed from the bill and we're told the owner doesn't allow alcohol to be taken off the bill. It took 45 minutes to get our panini sandwiches and there were no other customers in the restaurant. Overall very unhappy w our experience. The waitress apologized and said she'd make us a free drink the next time but there was nothing she could do. This is a policy that should be adjusted w management moving forward. read more

There were a few disappointments: *They didn't have apple cider for their Apple Cider Martini that was on the Valentines Day Specials. Why is it on the specials if you can't even order it?? *The house salads were DRENCHED in dressing, all of the lettuce was soggy and we barely could eat it. *The chicken parm was just OK, it was a little dry. *I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and asked for it with broccoli-which they didn't have?! The waitress said they didn't have broccoli?? This was disappointing to me. It was hard for me to believe they could put broccoli in the dish The good parts: *The soups were amazing! French Onion soup is definitely recommended! As well as the lobster bisque. *The Alfredo sauce and shrimp was the best I've ever had. I could drink that sauce! Overall it was just OK. Before Covid-19, this gem of a restaurant was a wonderful place to have authentic and delicious Italian dishes like the Pappardelle al Ragu Toscana and Shrimp Scampi (two of my favs). However, to my absolute delight, these dishes and others have translated beautifully to take-out. There is indoor and outdoor dining currently as well as their terrific bar, but when I order their meals to go, I often get two nights of their delicious cuisine because their portions are wonderfully generous. Came here for date night and it wasn't the best experience. Our server was amazing but the wait time was terrible, and it wasn't even a super busy night. Got an appetizer( mushrooms stuffed with crab meat) which was great, then came our side salads that came not too long after. The Caesar salad was great!!! But then we waited a full hour and 20 minutes for the entrees. My boyfriend thought his chicken Alfredo was "okay at best" but my shrimp scampi was unfortunately the worst thing I had all night, I tried my best to enjoy I because I hate to be a bother to staff but it was so unenjoyable. The noodles were hard in the middle and they tasted like they were doused in olive oil only. The shrimp were hard and chewy and barely tasted like the herbs they were garnished with. I told the server and he grabbed the manager and when he came to address the situation, he told told me that "it's supposed to be like that" and when I said i did not enjoy it he said "so there's nothing wrong with it, you just don't like it." He was disrespectful and did not actually care about what I had to say. He only took it off of the bill because my plate was still completely full. I wish I could recommend this place but I truly cannot. But as always I made sure my server got a wonderful tip because none of this was in their control! read more

This has always been our favorite restaurant, for about 25 years. Yesterday 4 friends were having a Christmas luncheon and the supposed manager, Erica, was our waitress. Never have I ever had a more discourteous server. She seemed like we were an imposition from the beginning. She never smiled, she rushed us as if she needed to leave, she never came around and asked how our food was or if she could get us anything. She never even came to refill our water glasses! And when I asked, she was quite offended when I mentioned to our table that water should certainly not have been asking too much. She never asked us if we wanted coffee, and when one in our party asked for it she never asked if any others of us wanted some also, and therefore we had to have her return 4 times just to request coffee! She forgot extra napkins when we asked for them and again was offend when we asked her 10 minutes later. The icing on the cake was when I found a wire in my crab cake when I was nearly finished eating it. She never offered an apology, left our table and came back and again and still never said sorry, but that she would comp the crab cake only and that it was probably just part of a scrubbing sponge! One of my friends asked how that worked its way into a crab cake. I was lucky I didn't have a bleed from the 1 inch long thing. We asked to speak to the owner whom she said just left. I paid for my pasta and salad and coffee and she took off 6 dollars for the crab cake. We all had the same meal. We all felt uncomfortable after seeing this wire and it certainly put a damper on our Holiday luncheon. To think that she never even apologized and the owner never came to our table was quite a shock to all. The wonderful reputation of this restaurant has been forever marred in all our minds. I will try and call the owner today and ask how Erica could possibly be a manager let alone a waitress. We all have been waitresses in our past and the job entails caring for customers whether we are busy with other responsibilities in the restaurant or not. Had a bad experience at Anthony's Trattoria, Mt. Penn PA on 12/8/22. Four of us meant for lunch and our reservation was for 2:00 p.m. There were only two other tables occupied when we arrived but they left shortly after our arrival, so my group of four had the restaurant to ourselves for the next 2 hours. It was evident from the beginning that our waitress, Erica, was having a bad day. She had an attitude that got worse the longer she had to wait on us. She took our order and served our food, but she missed the boat on normal good service by acting rushed and curt with us, failing to check on us to see if we needed anything. We had to flag her down for water refills, and extra napkin, coffee, ketchup, etc., and she acted put out. She was very impatient. One of the people in my party FOUND A PIECE OF WIRE IN THEIR CRAB CAKE!! There was never an apology by Erica. She whisked the plate away to show the wire to the cook. She came back, didn't mentioned what she found out, so my friend had to ask her about that. She impatiently replied that she thought it was part of a wire scrubby in the kitchen. My first thought was food prep is never next to the sink where dirty dishes are, so that excuse didn't sound logical. Then Erica told the person that they would take the crab cake off the bill, but but they would have to pay for their salad and pasta. All four of us thought that the whole meal should have been free because of the disgusting wire the person found in their crab cake. What if the person had swallowed that? Again, no apology from Erica. I was so turned off by the fact that my friend found a wire in the crab cake, that I threw my leftovers away when I got home. Towards the end of our lunch, Erica acted defensive and reminded us that she was the only waitress, and the bartender that day, and although we all could understand where she was coming from, we also knew that we were the only table she had to wait on for the 2 hours we were there, plus there were no people sitting in the bar while we were there. Erica never offered us dessert. By then it was evident she wanted to get rid of us. She just brought our checks and took the opportunity to tell all of us how she didn't like hearing us talk about her, because she heard one of the people in my party say it's usually customary to get water refills at a restaurant. The person said that because Erica was curt about getting the water refills. Erica is a bad representation of Anthony's Trattoria, a nice restaurant who has been servicing the Berks County public beautifully for a long time. I'm giving a 2 star rating and that's just for the food. Can't give Anthony's 5 stars this time because of the bad service and attitude from the waitress. I might consider returning to Anthony's, but if I do, I'll avoid daytime hours if Erica is the waitress. There are other nice restaurants out there. I would just like to remind Erica and Anthony's restaurant that without customers, a business folds. read more
