We have always enjoyed Dan's because the food is very good along with thoughtful and attentive service. The outdoor seating is also a great space but the night we went it was raining so we were seated in the garden room. Dan's does some things that are unexpected and add a nice touch such as a small complimentary crostini with cheese and pesto along with a small demi-cup of the soup my husband ordered since I did not order an appetizer. We had an amazing experience for Valentine's Day. We chose to come for their pre-set menu and had an amazing 4-course meal. We both had a cocktail with the first two courses, and then got wine to enjoy with our main course. The food was made to perfection. The service was exquisite. Our server was helpful and attendant. This place is very nice. The room we ate in had great decor and looked like you were eating in a higher end establishment. Plenty of parking. The service was amazing. I was in a larger group of 6 and they were on top of keeping our drinking full and clearing our dishes. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. I had the shrimp and grits which I thought was just ok and for $35 really should have been amazing. I've gotten this same dish in Atlanta for half the price with 2x the amount of shrimp. I wouldn't order this here again. The bread was very basic as well. Everyone else at my table was very happy with their food and I wouldn't say that I wasn't happy but for the price I expected to have my hair blown back. read more

Three out of the four of us wanted salmon on a Sunday night during the holidays and we were told that they ran out. Not very good for a 6 o'clock seating. Salmon is a staple which they should never run out of. Drinks were fine, but menu once again is unchanged. This menu has been the same for at least 5 to 6 years. There are very few special specials. This restaurant is not cheap and therefore they should have a more varied menu. They also need to either change the menu completely or add some different items to the menu. They all should be sensitive to gluten-free requests. Service is always excellent. The food is always good, but it's always the same. Change the menu, please! read more

There's ample free parking and indoor and outdoor spaces are cozy. Service is impeccable. My filet mignon was exquisite: perfectly cooked, scrumptious, tender as can be and memorable. Side dishes of asparagus and potato were excellent. All dishes arrived at the table hot. It isn't convenient for me to eat at Dans often, but I have a strong hankering to return soon. Had a good meal here recently with some colleagues from work. They had a nice special going on with $15 giftcards for every $100 giftcard purchased, so that allowed me to save a bit on the total meal cost. You can't buy these online but they'll even let you purchase them before your meal, so that worked out well. Service was lacking a bit. We had a very long wait time until someone came to our table, and we had wine ordered and served before anyone had even taken our orders or served us bread. One of the proprietors was on wine duty and seemed determined to pour out the entire bottle rather than leaving it there for us, which I also found a bit odd. Overall the flavors of the food were good, but the staff were very much going through the motions, and our server never really engaged with us or asked us anything about why were there and while the dining room was busy, it wasn't so busy that we couldn't have been welcomed a bit more. When you have such a good wine list and such a nice property I expect the staff to be shining at service. Instead, I got the service I would have gotten at Chipotle, which is "good enough" there, but not here. I'll still probably be back, but if they don't knock it out of the park next time, I won't be. Too many other places I can give a shot to. read more

We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Dan's for our anniversary. The food was perfectly prepared and the service was impeccable. My wife started with sweet potato soup that was awesome, followed by an ahi tuna platter and to cap it all off finished with a crème brûlée with the thickest crust she had ever had. I started with a beet salad, followed by an absolutely perfectly prepared petite fillet and ended with an apple cobbler. Really nice quiet place. This is the second time that my Husband and I have visited the place. The food is definitely good, but the cost is somewhat high compared with other local establishments. The menu is very small, with only first course and second course options. I highly recommend the duck dish. My Husband had the scallops, and they were good, but not exceptional. The service is definitely one of the high points of Dans at the Green. Overall it's a pleasant spot, but you can do better for your money. Last night was our third time back and it is an understatement to say that we were not as thrilled. To start with the positives: The patio is lovely and dining outside on a sunny evening is a delight. The resident cat is a friendly sweetheart. The hostess is nice. My husband's pork dish was very good, as were the sweet potato soup amuse bouches (should not have arrive slopped over the side of the small cups however. The entrees arrived so soon though. Almost instantly. That doesn't seem like they are prepared to order and always bothers me a bit. Negatives: The first amuse (yes there were two, a nice touch) was an unappetizing concoction of what looked to be a pile of cheese wiz with half a grape tomato on top on a hard thin slice of toasted baguette. I tasted it and it was not good. The visual was very bad. My pasta dish was ok and pretty bland, not up to what is supposed to be one of the best upscale restaurants in the area. I do wish they would change up their menu occasionally. The biggest negative has to be reserved for our waitress. She was so unpleasant that she ruined a lovely sunny evening on the patio. Very unfriendly and patronizing. When I asked her to repeat something she was annoyed. She was wearing a mask and my hearing isn't the best. She was displeased when my husband asked for extra rolls. She was unfriendly throughout but the piece de resistance came when we ordered desserts. He didn't understand how many of each sorbet we were supposed to order. The menu is confusing. Apparently it's three and she mocked him and acted very impatient when he said he wanted one of each (there were two flavors). She walked away actually muttering under her breath. Her behavior was unacceptable. We paid for a nice night and she behaved as if we worked for her. We were very nice to her throughout. I have no idea why a server would behave in this way. Perhaps she viewed us as stupid old people. First time I left only a 15% tip. We will not return to Dan's though it's very close to our home and we liked it in the past. You can read my past two reviews to see that. One final note. We moved here from Philadelphia two years ago and while we don't expect center city Philadelphia quality or choice of restaurants, we do expect courtesy. If you like duck, this is the best duck in the area, if not greater surrounding area. I get duck whenever we go out and usually my wife at least tries mine and we both agree that this is some of the best we've ever had in all of our travels. Everything we had here was delicious. An easy favorite among locals, Dans is located inside the Green Hills Inn, a nice, 200 year old romantic setting that serves high end sides, entrees, desserts and drinks. Great place to take a date, a small group of friends, or celebrate a birthday or Anniversary. Expect to spend $100+ per couple, especially with drinks and apps/desserts. Private parking lot. Reservations highly recommended on the weekends: its a somewhat small place, and it fills up quick. Formally located in downtown Reading, PA, but moved after changing owners. My company decided to have its holiday work party at Dan's recently, and it did not disappoint! Our group was fairly large (roughly 25 or so), which led me to believe the meal was going to be served "buffet" style, where we would all just wander around and fill our plates and make painfully forced awkward small talk with one another. I was wrong, thank goodness! We were sat down at a huge table and served a wonderful three course meal. It felt less like a work party and more like a large family gathering. With large parties, it's sometimes hard to coordinate the timing with each dish, but the starters, entrees, and desserts were all brought to us in perfect intervals. Here's what I had: Hudson Valley Foie Gras Seasonal Preserves and Fresh Fruits/Toasted Brioche with a side of lipitor; Filet Mignon of Beef Shiitake Mushrooms/Whipped Potatoes/Swiss Chard/Bordelaise/Red Onion Jam (medium rare of course) and wonderful wine by the glass (I was solo and I couldn't convince any of the waitresses to be my designated driver so no bottle service this time around) and topped it all off with one scoop of blackberry ice cream. Monir the proprietor brought complimentary mushroom ravioli that was superb! The fois gras was cooked to my specs (medium) and so was the steak (medium rare). The best way that I know of to describe Dans is a culinary oasis in the desolate culinary dessert that is Reading PA and the surrounding areas. I drove past mile and miles of virtually every national franchise fast food joint there is and couldn't find a decent restaurant. Dan's isn't great because there isn't competition; Dan's stands on its own right. The restaurant could easily be relocated to the West Village but the property however can't. There's a wonderful landscaped garden patio that I'm sure will be the place to dine on the spring evenings. From the start of my gastronomical experience the staff performed as a well rehearsed orchestra in perfect synchronicity and concert. Monir was the conductor that ever so gracefully directed every movement. Bravo! I rarely write reviews but after having one of the best meals and overall restaurant experiences of my life during a recent business dinner, had to come here to write this one. The seared pork chop special was incredible, bookended by a tremendous Caesar salad and dark chocolate (!) bread pudding. My guests raved about the sweet potato soup and their entrees as well. Have lived a couple miles from Dan's for 20+ years but have never dined there. The menu looks great but my wife is a vegan (who will eat vegetarian) and we've been waiting for a SINGLE vegetarian entree yet to be listed. I'm sure the chef can prepare *something* if we call in advance but this is pretty backward. Even fine restaurants in Paris we've been to have accommodated this growing population of plant-based eaters. Vegans aren't 2nd class patrons. Hands down one of my new favorite spots! I've lived in Berks county for quite a few years and finally made my way over here. For date night, my husband made reservations for us here. It was super easy to find. There's a big parking lot and the place itself is rather big. We were quickly sat in the first room. It was old but charming inside. They did their absolute best to take COVID-19 precautions by wearing masks and even gloves. Our server was absolutely excellent! She was great at giving recommendations. We each started with a salad. I got the Cesar and my husband got the house. My salad was delicious and quite a generous portion. The dressing was fantastic! Then we split the crab cake and my god was it amazing! The corn salsa that came with it was fantastic! My husband had the steak and I had the salmon. What a BIG piece of salmon with amazing flavor!! The asparagus was perfectly cooked as well as the potatoes. We split the Creme Brûlée. WOW. Absolutely one of my favorite desserts - ever! We had some drinks throughout the evening. My husband loved his old fashion. The wine was cold and delicious. Our espresso's were so good! The service here is hands down the best I've seen in my many years of the hospitality industry. I'm beyond impressed. Drinks and food came out so quickly. The one owner was incredibly nice. He struck up conversation and made us feel welcomed. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Sorely disappointed in the regression this establishment has taken. First off, do NOT come here hungry. You will not get nearly enough food for half a person let alone a full. If you expect fast service, you are in the wrong place. High prices? Oh yes. They have that for absolutely NO reason. Do you want to order your lamb to a certain temp? Went there for a business dinner with 6 people, and as first timers, we had high expectations. Reservation for 6:30 - but did not get our entrees until 8:15. So ridiculously slow. We had to get up and go ask the manager where our food was. They comped us a round of drinks (that no one wanted but we drank anyway) while we continued to wait. Ironically, the dining room was only 20% full - but we were told the "porch was packed." Beyond the long wait, the food was okay - but JUST okay - with small portions. Certainly not worth the money or the wait. We won't be back. BTW - tell your servers to take their masks off - covid "crisis" is over and it's just rude.
