Woooow! The food here is SO good! We had the pistachio pizza and nonna pizza and they were top notch! The crust on the pizza had a nice little char. We ended with the carrot cake and again - so good. They use candied pecans instead of walnuts and I'm a fan. The balsamic dressing is made in house and they have a really good hot chili oil. How is it possible that the best pizza I've ever eaten is at a restaurant in Vernal, Utah?!? For context, Vernal is a very rural oil town that showcases fossils and dinosaurs. Back to the food - Fresh sauce, homemade mozzarella, amazing dough. The flavors were delicate allowing a taste of the basil without being overpowering. The pizza is top notch. We started with an apple walnut and fig salad which was very fresh, then a gluten free prosciutto and balsamic caramelized onion pizza for me and a vegetarian pizza with added shrimp for hubby. Everything was so good it was hard to resist eating it all, but we wanted to save room for homemade gelato, and not feel overstuffed. The gluten free crust was superb, best I have had and the sweetness of the onions was a great match to the prosciutto. They make their own mozzarella in-house and it tastes fantastic. Well first of all there was a screaming child and I mean constantly screaming child that the parents did nothing about and while there was only one other group of 3 in the restaurant they seated us near the screaming child!! Come on!! Why!?!? We had no idea until after we sat that this was the case. And surly we thought someone was going to get the child to calm down. Nope. The food kicker was the pizza we ordered. Meat lover type. Some of the meats on it were still refrigerator cold. (the ham especially) It was taken out of the 800 degree oven too soon! So we ate one slice of pizza, asked for a to go box and promptly left. Seriously, not serving hot pizza is ridiculous. I told the employees we were leaving due to the screaming child. Great gluten free pizza! I was in town for a quick trip and asked a family member who lives locally for a good place to go that had gluten free options for my traveling companion. While there is possibility for cross contamination big time in a place like this, it wasn't enough for my friend to have any reactions whatsoever. We found a winner in Vernal! (Thanks to Yelp of course.) Everything was delicious. The arugula salad was fresh with a light balsamic drizzle. The Quattro Fromaggi was simply cooked to perfection with just the right amount of gorgonzola. The Margarita pizza had a terrific tomato sauce and the crust was cooked just right and not soggy in the center like is so often the case. The pizzas a good size with six slices. I ate more than I should have because we didn't want leftovers. Our waitress was great as well. She was sincerely friendly and even adjusted the wobbly table without us even mentioning it. The service here was a 5 - friendly and helpful. I should've followed all of the server's recommendations. First off - the pizza is the real deal here. They got the crust right and the ingredients were fresh. My son had the Nona and it was really delicious. We shared a Caprese and the tomatoes were really fresh and flavorful. So why 3 stars? The house made mozzarella wasn't as spectacular as it sounded - a bit thick and chewy rather than moist and creamy. But the cardinal sin was the calzone. In fairness, I was counseled against ordering the calzone over a pizza and should've taken the advice but I have a special affinity for a calzone. You know - calzone, stuffed with fresh ricotta, sausage and mushrooms and a nice red marinara and a crispy crust risen high by the heat. Not what I got - it was thin, not particularly stuffed, and as flat as a pizza. I had requested sauce on the side, not smothered like it was described to me, but the cook had melted mozzarella on the outside top of the crust, preventing it from rising. Rookie mistake. Cook needed to go back and take a calzone 101 class. It's not too difficult to make a decent calzone but very easy to screw it up. With a few tweaks this could be a 4 star but tonight was just average. Glad the service was so positive. read more

After attending an Arts and Crafts show, we noted a restaurant nearby. Since it was close to our hotel, we decided to try it. Antica Forma, from the entrance appeared to be a run-of-the- mill average eatery. Were we ever pleasantly surprised! After being seated, our waitress came over immediately to take our drink and dinner order. She was very friendly, and even though business was brisk, she remained attentive to our needs. She was outstanding!!! She was affable, very knowledegeable, not pushy or over bearing. She brought our salads already split into two plates. She brought extra plates for the lasagna, which was the best we'd ever eaten. The portions were more than adequate to share. The owner overheard my compliment to the waitress and came over so I spent a few moments chatting with him. What a treat it was to be able to provide feedback to the owner. I am not sure what kind of mozzarella they use, but it wasn't your typical Italian mozzarella you are used to that is soft and moist and browns nicely when cooked in the oven.
