The food was authentic, Italian cuisine and delicious. In a nice part of Brooklyn worth a visit.

If I could give this business a 6 stars I would! My Italian stepfather was coming into town and gave me two parameters for dinner: located in Brooklyn & authentic Italian Of course I fired up my devices and began searching, overwhelmed by the amount of results however, I kept coming back to Antica Pesa, namely because they had Rigatoni all'Amatriciana and many other reviews praised the restaurant's authenticity yet modern flair. Inside the ambiance is modern with a cool bar at the front, tables and booths throughout and a waiting area with couches and old books. The restaurant was celebrating their 13th anniversary in Brooklyn (other location in Rome) so they let us know they'd be having a live band. We started out with drinks: I loved my Espresso Martini EVOO, which was made with espresso, borghetti coffee liqueur, sugar, fernet branca, extra virgin olive oil and per my request, gin. It was a little unique touch and easy to enjoy. My partner had refreshing cocktails throughout the evening which I can't remember the names of right now, my stepfather enjoyed several Negronis, brought out by the wonderful owner and my mother had a sweet tea, which our waiter and the owner made fresh for her. I later enjoyed a glass of wine as they are known for their selection which was lovely. We started with the CRUDO E BUFALA CROCCANTE which I highly recommend if you like dishes like baked brie. Perfectly flaky but a little heavy! We also shared the INSALATA DI RUCOLA, PESCHE E CAPRINO which was super refreshing and well rounded. They also served us each a slice of bread and a large flat cracker like grain to enjoy. I had one of the appetizers for my entree, POLPO ALLA LUCIANA. The octopus was tender and the anchovy was mild yet perfectly complemented the dish. My stepfather had the RIGATONI ALL'AMATRICIANA which was amazing. My boyfriend's SPAGHETTI CACIO E PEPE was our favorite from the table. It amazed me how well it was made. Finally, my mom had the GNOCCHI, ZUCCA E FUNGHI TRIFOLATI. This is a great seasonal fall dish as it includes, pumpkin cream, Sautéed Wild Mushrooms, Spicy Toasted Pumpkin Seeds and Parmigiano. We all agreed the pasta was expertly al dente and no one had any leftovers. For dessert, I had a port wine, which was nice, my mother had vanilla GELATO ARTIGIANALE and my boyfriend had CANNOLI. I thought both were appropriate portions and not too sweet, making for the perfect nightcap. I could say more about this lovely restaurant, but you just have to come and try for yourself! read more

My family was excited to explore the city of Brooklyn from Los Angeles. Craving authentic Italian, we were recommended to Antica Pesa by a family member born and raised in Italy. Antica Pesa is the first stop we made coming to Brooklyn. Once you step inside the ambiance is beautiful. A leather sofa with a fireplace sits across the bar. Decor is simple and feels elegant. Dim soft yellow lights and tea lights scattered the tables. The tables we're nicely set and the servers attentive. We were greeted by Lorenzo and enthusiactically welcomed when he discovered one of our family members were from Italia. Lorenzo was welcoming, bouncing from person to person with his energy. He recommended and provided each of us a beautiful plate of Cruda Búfala Croccante. It was simple and light. Our party was here to begin our evening and decided to end our visit with the appetizers, 2 entres and drinks. From there, service dwindled and Lorenzo never came back to give us all the welcoming hugs he promised each and every one of us. Had the loveliest dinner at Antica Presa in Brooklyn and honestly, I'm still thinking about it. The vibe was super cozy with the dozens of dim globe lights lining the ceiling, a candle on each table, and shelves of wine bottles lining the walls. It felt like the perfect date night spot. I ordered the Spaghetti alla Chitarra with anchovies, butter, lemon, parsley, and breadcrumbs, and it was so good I could've cried. Bright, buttery, salty in the best way. My date had the Raviolo Ricotta e Spinaci and really liked it too (though I didn't snag a photo ((was too busy enjoying the moment)). Our waiter was really helpful with wine suggestions, and while there were a couple of moments where the staff didn't seem totally in sync (like two different people trying to grab our silverware) it didn't take away from the experience. My wife and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary here and it was amazing! From the incredible warm reception walking in until our departure, every step of the way we were made to feel like family! We dined in the Rome location last year and were blown away and decided it was time to drive in from "the Island" to Williamsburg to celebrate our occasion. The Food, the Wine, the Service all 5+ stars! Our incredible host (the owner) and our waiter from Naples, made the experience so memorable! Fun warm Italian atmosphere, but everyone at our table got cold pasta. Is that a roman tradition?

The menu is very inventive for an Italian restaurant so that is very much appreciated. We started off with the baby gem salad and the duck prosciutto dish with mustard ice cream. Both tasted great and were done in ways I had never seen before. For my main I ordered the cacio e pepe. This is one of my favorite pasta dishes and it was disappointing here. It was just missing something. The interior is beautiful and the service was attentive but overall the dinner missed the mark a bit and I'm not sure if it is worth the price. read more

They did a cool thing where they cut the peppers into your dish in front of you for a fresh spicy taste tailored to you. Absolutely incredible experience - our group of 6 unanimously agrees this was the best restaurant experience we have ever had. Beautiful evening ambience, warm and approachable, yet elevated and refined. First on the food: it was a whole new dimension of Italian food. Familiar dishes but with a new depth of flavor I had not experienced before. The restaurant's roots are in Rome, which means they have a unique take on certain dishes.. there's an emphasis on a very specific level of al dente pasta, a more intensely rich type of cacio e pepe, and pork sourced from Italy served as Guanciale (crispy bits served on top of your pasta). The buffalo mozzarella crudo was delicious and delicate. The duck prosciutto had a pleasantly smokiness at the end of each bite, and the octopus was very tender and flavorful! We were very well taken care of by our wonderful server Ricardo as well as Lorenzo, the owner himself! He suggested the best thing: they offered a Bitico (spelling?) which isn't on the menu, but is like a split pasta dish where all of us could try two of their specialties on a single plate. Both the cacio e pepe and rigatoni were other worldly. Overall I would highly recommend! Their Roman-style cuisine is exactly what you would get in the home land. CRUDO E BUFALA CROCCANTE // Baked Filo Dough Wrapped Buffalo Mozzarella, 24-Month Aged Prosciutto Di Parma. If you order one dish here, this is it. This is something you won't find at many Italian restaurants stateside. Absolutely beautiful. The flaky dough marries the real deal mozz and aged prosciutto in a way that melted on my tongue. POLPO E RADICI // Roasted Octopus, Raw Honey, Licorice Root Powder, Potato & Leek Cream, Chili Pepper, Charred Parsnips. Whenever I see octopus on a menu I have to try it. Had a great overall experience dining here. The food was amazing and the restaurant itself had a really romantic charm to it (nice mood lighting). We told the waiter we were splitting the orders of pasta and then came already divided which was super convenient. Points were lost on the service. While our waiter was nice he didn't come around much and there were really long waits in between courses. The restaurant was full and it seemed as though they were understaffed. We also heard the table next to us complain of a really long wait for both their drinks and meals. I would definitely recommend eating here just don't have anywhere to be after! read more

Went here last night and split the fennel salad, mushroom risotto, and pumpkin pasta with my friend and they were all amazing fall dishes. I honestly thought the risotto and pasta were some of the best Italian dishes I have had in NY. I do take a star off for service. We arrived at 6:30 (no reservation), and roughly 75% of the tables were open. The hostess told us that she had a lot of reservations coming at 7 but we could sit at the bar. I asked if we could sit at the bar and wait for a table. She said no. Fine. So we spent the whole evening (1.5 hours), at the bar, and let me tell you, a good number of those tables (at least 5-6) remained open the whole night, staring at us as we sat at the bar. And she turned away lots of customers, from a restaurant that still had open tables at 8. It was so weird. BUT the bartender was very friendly and helpful! read more

My wife & I had the pleasure of dining with my oldest son, it's a rare occurrence because of our busy schedules. My dining choice for this evening is Antica Pesa. I love the unpretentious and inviting space, it gives off a warm vibe. What we also have are three serious diners who want a great meal. Antica Pesa delivered. First drinks, my wife ordered a glass of Italian wine. My son & I started with cocktails. Now if I'm dining in an Italian restaurant, my family doesn't order one dish per person. Who needs to eat an entire platter of pasta? Pasta is supposed to be a starter, not a mound of Olive Garden-all you eat. We ordered Octopus and Fennel salad to start. I really wanted to try their Cacio E Pepe but my son said, dad we can make this at home. Lets order the Rigatoni All Amatriciana as well as the Octopus. The octopus, the chef made a stew with San Marzano tomatoes and was creative with crispy bread. Our minds are blown away at this point. We also ordered for table the Fiorentina porterhouse for two. What was brought to us was a sizzling steak, Peter Luger style! The dish came with oven roasted potatoes and green beans. Not to forget the pasta, the Rigatoni All Amatriciana with Guanciale was another nice tasting note. After we finished our incredible dinner, I was packed out but the waiter said we must try the Tiramisu, it's the chef's specialty. We also ordered the Tartelletta, made with fresh strawberries and Nutella. The Tiramisu was probably the best Tiramisu I had in my life! I had a taste of the Tartelletta, my spoon kept heading towards the Tiramisu. It was that good. We had an incredible meal and now comes time to settle the bill. The waiter had a portable POS system that ran my charge card. I ran the change for the bill and left a cash tip. A few minutes later, the bartender came over and asked if everything was ok and why we didn't leave a tip? I pointed to the table and showed the cash I left. She apologized and left quickly. Lovely atmo. Great food. Solid cocktails and wine. But service was weak and felt overpriced

I actually chose Antica Pesa for my wife and our 2 year anniversary because I had dropped by a few weeks earlier with some friends for a drink and was blown away by the chilled vibe and amazing modern decor. My wife pointed out that the panels in the roof were actually there to make sure the sound bounced around the room in a way that created more of an acoustically intimate setting. Mission accomplished. We also had the pleasurable coincidence of it being jazz night which added to an already cool, laid back atmosphere. Next we were introduced to our attentive and knowledgeable waiter Richard who did not just walk us through the menu - instead he gave us an exquisite historical/gastronomic rundown befitting a true evangelist. I should preface this review by saying I hate sounding like some uber articulate wanker - but this food makes me want to be poetic - put simply, this was best fucking Italian food I've had in NYC and it's not even close. For appetisers we ordered the Crudo E Bufala Croccante and the Anatra, Fichi E Senape. The baked filo dough was almost as wholesome as the moist, decadent buffalo Mozzarella lying within. The 30 month aged Prosciutto Di Parma added a layer of thick ham flavour that sang for days across the palate. Next up was the Anatra, Fichi E Senape. I must admit my first impression looking at this dish was that it resembled a fancy açai bowl. My trepidation was put to rest with the first mouthful. Needless to say I felt like I was tasting a combination of flavours that resembled some kind of slow Roman dance, punctuated by an ambitious dollop of mustard gelato that paired perfectly with the smoked duck breast prosciutto. Then it was time for our two pasta dishes. We went for polar opposites to taste both ends of the flavour spectrum. Red Sauce v White Sauce. Pig v Clam. First up was the Rigatoni All'amatriciana. This to me reminded me of my time in Sicily - a southern salvo of Al Dente homemade Rigatoni, Guanciale (pork jowl), slow cooked San Marzano tomato sauce, that was blessed with a powdering of Pecorino Romano and cut Calabrian Chillis that were personally snipped by one of lovely severs. The red color of this dish made me wonder how much our chef loved AS Roma (and hated SS Lazio)...it's a Roman thing. I'm not one for seafood but I adored the Clam Pasta (Spaghetti Alle Vongole). The reason being was the purity of the product. The clams were imported straight from Italy and the meat tasted like it was still wet from the Mediterranean. We only shared one main which Richard hyped as one of THE go-to options: Vitello Tonnato, a dish made with slow cooked veal, capers, anchovy mayo, tuna foam and topped off with a dash of veal jus made from the bone. There is no other way to describe this meal other than an inexplicable, chaotic, controlled combination of bold, brave flavours. I don't care if that sounds oxymoronic because it's hard to put into words such a unique coupling of flavours that is unlike anything I have tried before. It may not been the best meal I have had but it was definitely one of the most profound and revelatory culinary experiences I have experienced. My wife put it best when she declared "this chef is a fucking psycho in all the best ways possible" My memory drifts from Dessert because it was paired with some serious Amaro and Limoncello...let's just say it was magnanimous for the sake of exhausting my online thesaurus. It goes without saying that we will be back to Antica Pesa. I look forward to being able to introduce our friends to what I think is the top Italian spot in the city. The prices are honest, the service is exceptional, the vibe is infectious, and the food is pretty, pretty, pretty fucking top notch. I didn't like the rigatoni as it had a strong pork taste but the risotto was really good. We finished off with tiramisu that was really really good and authentic. In hind sight, we ordered too much food and if I were to go back, I wouldn't order an appetizer if I was going to get two pastas to share. Antica Pesa is the New York branch of a long-standing Italian restaurant in Rome. We had just moved to the neighborhood in Williamsburg and stopped in to grab a bite. We got the Rigatoni All'Amatriciana and the Paccheri al Pomodoro. Both had good flavor, but unfortunately, the pasta was not cooked well - some overcooked, some undercooked, and stuck together. you're paying for ambience; the pasta was very underwhelming. al dente is al dente, but tiny bits of my pasta were undercooked and none of the sauces were necessarily good. the service was okay but we had to ask for extra water several times and the waiters kept trying to upsell us their more expensive wines which became annoying at one point and felt ingenuine. i think atmosphere at a restaurant is definitely important, but with what we paid, i don't think anyone in our group wanted to go back.. we didn't have any of their desserts but they did look good read more

So if you read my last review, I was pretty upset at Antica Pesa. However, wifey really likes their food and asked if we can go again. After some reluctance, I finally gave in. I haven't had an experience like the last one I had since, although I did reiterate when I ordered again the first time back - that I wanted separate pastas and to not combine any of them. We've been back a few more times since and enjoyed our meals. Servers are always attentive and it feels like back to normal. I did notice the portions have gotten a bit smaller on some dishes, specifically the fresh mozzarella and prosciutto one. They've since added a special they had last summer, Fritto Misto, to their normal menu. If you've ever been to the coast of Italy, it's basically a box of those fried seafood bouquets you can get. Very lightly battered, fried with just salt and lemon to enjoy. This the only place I've been able to get an authentic fritto misto. As always, the prosicutto buffala croccante and cacio e pepe are the star dishes for me. If you feel yourself missing that time you were in Rome, Antica Pesa will definitely transport you back there. read more

Let me start by saying thank you to Lorenzo, we had a truly beautiful experience. If you want amazing food, drinks and to be treated like family, this is the place for you! I'm born and raised in Rome and I can guarantee you this is the real deal. I was so happy to be able to taste some of the dishes of my culinary tradition. From pasta to wine, to cocktails, amaro and homemade tiramisù. Everything was authentic and of superb quality. 10/10! Service was the best I could hope for. Riccardo, our server, was not only extremely knowledgeable in wine and food pairings, but also kind and so attentive to our needs. If you want an incredible old fashioned (as well as Negroni etc), ask Emiliano, one of the best bartenders I've met so far! We picked this restaurant for our Christmas night dinner. They had a prix fixe menu for $100 and drinks were extra. There was ample street parking. We were seated immediately despite showing up about 10 minute early. The hostess was very nice and wished us Merry Christmas and showed us to our table. The decor and ambience was great. Then we began to wait.....another table of two came and sat besides us. They were attended to immediately and given water. We thought it was strange nobody had come and spoken to us yet. We waited patiently. Then another table came and were served and then another table all right next to us. All the while, no one from the waiting staff had come to introduce themselves or offer us some water or any of that. At this point, my wife and I started to get very uncomfortable and started to feel very unwelcome. I did not wish to make a scene. I got up and walked towards the hostess who was busy seating someone else. I looked around and saw a gentleman in a nice suit at the hostess desk. I asked him if he was the manager and he said yes and I explained the situation to him and told him I don't wish to make a scene but it would be nice if my wife and I could have some table service like the three other couples that had gotten seated after us. He immediately rushed and took care of things for us and from there it was smooth flowing. Turns out, he was part of the ownership of the place and a descendent of the owners of the original restaurant with the same name in Rome which has remained open since 1922 apparently. The two servers in particular who were on our side were abysmal. I have received better service at Applebees. I don't blame the owner because he was super nice and took care of everything once things came to his attention. He just needs some better waiting staff. The people who brought us our food were also very sweet. I think it's just a few bad apples. The food overall was from my understanding supposed to be very authentic and I respect that. It was good as was the cocktail that I got and the wine my wife got. It wasn't anything phenomenal for me but I respect the culture and the traditions. The service and the unwelcome nature of this experience blew me away. We were also the only non-white people there and I really like to hope and think that had nothing to do with any of this but I am unable to entirely rule that out. Magnificent! Beautiful, delicious! Attention was paid to every tiny detail from setting, service, presentation of food and feeling like welcome family. Our waiter plus the entire dining staff ensured that no glass went empty or plate went unattended. All our food from start to finish was prepared perfectly and tasted amazing. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming (fire was burning, wine was flowing, guests were cheerful). What a delight! So happy to have shared this meal with dear family and friends. The place looks like a gem, but overall experience wasn't great. The service, ambiance, decor, menu, wine list, presentation - they were all excellent. What was subpar - food and wine. The food presentation was artistic and very sophisticated, but everything lacked flavor. Also, the wines sounded good but were of mediocre variety. All dishes, except for a salad, needed serious salt and spice intervention. Big "meh". read more

I honestly think I could come here for dinner every single day and I'd be happy for the rest of my life. My friend and I decided to come to this restaurant for dinner on a weekday night. We had made a reservation before and once we arrived we were seated in about five minutes, since it was pretty busy and most, if not all of the restaurant was packed. Once we were seated we were given our menus and given some time to look over them. I decided to go with a white sauce Ragu dish which totally smacked. The vibes in here are also notable. This is definitely great for a more intimate dining experience with friends or a date. I would definitely make a reservation beforehand as well! read more
