My girlfriend visiting from Miami was excited for pizza, so after our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Antico just made perfect sense. As someone who's not a huge pizza fan, it's been a while since I've been to Antico, but I remember it's been an enjoyable experience every time. I've only ever visited the Midtown location but am glad you can get your own piece of Antico at multiple locations throughout the metro Atlanta area now. Although parking at this busy location in the heart of Midtown can be challenging, we lucked out at 8pm on a Thursday evening and were able to park pretty easily. Once you enter this location, expect a short line where you'll order at the register. After ordering, walk to the huge dining area in the back of the restaurant where you can watch experts making your pizza, wash your hands in an industrial sink, grab pizza toppings, and choose a shared seating bench area. My girlfriend and I decided to order two pizzas as we anticipated leftovers. We picked my two favorites: - San Gennaro: Italian sausage, Sweet Red Peppers, Bufala Mozzarella, Garlic, Cipollini Onions - Diavola: Spicy Salami, Calabrian Peppers, Bufala Mozzarella, Garlic Both pizzas were incredibly delicious! They came out hot and fresh - even if you get these to go, you've got to eat a slice or two there. The toppings are fresh and delicious and oh wow, the cheese! For that, Antico's in Little Italy in Atlanta is the place to go. The restaurant is crowded and noisy, but given its popularity, that's to be expected. The prices are on the higher side (over $30 for a pie), but the quality and experience justify the cost. The dining room and kitchen are connected, so you can watch the staff prepare each pizza. They use three wood‑burning ovens that were purchased in Naples and shipped here. Your pizza is baked at 900 degrees, which is impressive to see in action. I usually order a pizza without meat, since they primarily use pork. I've seen reviews saying they don't allow alterations to the pies, even for religious dietary restrictions, but I've never had an issue. I ordered a Margherita pizza with peppers. If you enjoy peppers, these are surprisingly hot without being overwhelming. You can even eat them on their own as an appetizer while you wait. I've never had a bad experience here. The crust is thin, fresh, and not heavy or doughy like what you might get from a typical chain. The center of the pizza can be a little chewy, but I've never found that to be a problem. Ever since I moved to Atlanta, I've heard a LOT about this place and I finally made my way here this week. It wasn't very busy on a Tuesday weekday evening. The architecture of this place is definitely one of a kind. We placed our orders (two pizzas) and waited inside for it to be ready. We could get our choice of toppings - garlic, basil, peppers, cheese, while the pizzas were getting baked. The turnaround to get our pizzas wasn't too bad either. After collecting our pizzas, we went outside (it was loud and busy indoors). First impressions? Both of them looked delicious. Taste? It was good. The lunch hostess was rude and roughly as welcoming as a dyspeptic honey badger. The only thing more fake than her eyebrows was her smile. Undeterred by this unfortunate opening chapter, we proceeded to the back. And it was here that the magic began. Greeted by the piquant aromas of the large open kitchen, we had a seat and took it all in. One chef carefully lifted and turned a pizza in one of the three ovens, while another quickly prepped toppings with a rhythmic rat-a-tat-tat. Our Margherita fully met expectations - the chew and leoparding of the crust, the robust flavor of the sauce, the quality of the mozzarella, the proportions and the appearance - all deserved high marks. I stumbled in on the later side to this pizza place embedded in a residential neighborhood. They apparently turn off online ordering at peak times, but ordering takeout at a counter was easier than I would have thought. Normally if your food comes out too quick you figure it hasn't been cooked freshly, but Neapolitan pizza is a fast process by default, and they didn't even take the fifteen minutes they said they would to produce mine, despite the peak hour business. Some places have moved towards insultingly small personal pies, but a pizza here was bigger than I could finish in one setting. Nonetheless, I still wish they'd had salads or sides, which prior research led me to believe they did but which I found no evidence of on arrival. I am not a huge white pizza person, but they promoted their mushroom and onion pizza as a house special, and I have to give them credit, it was an impressive pizza. The crust yielded a wonderful mix of fluff and char, and the onions were both crisp and juicy. It was a texturally magnificent pizza. The truffle flavor definitely came through, but it didn't overwhelm the onions or mozzarella. The Margherita is a classic. The perfect ratio of cheese, tomato, and basil. Perhaps the best part of Antico is the fresh garlic they offer by the toppings station which really elevates this pizza.
