I was super excited to find a Guatemalan restaurant while picking up an extension cord @ home depot. Finally got some takeout from here last night and it was awesome! We got 2 enchiladas, 2 chile rellenos and a chicken chuchito. Everything was really good and the total was $19. I'd definitely reccomend this restuarant to anyone who has yet to try Guatemalan food. The inside is spacious and clean and the walls are covered in art depicting Guatemala. My take out order was ready within 10 minutes of calling them. My family is Salvadoran but my mom spent the majority of her youth in Guatemala so we grew up eating a lot of their food. I also have several close friends who thank God, have legit Guate moms and I eat their food alllll the time, so I'd say this place is pretty comparable to home made genuine Chapin (that what you call Guatemalans) food. Enchilada - a tostada covered in a large lettuce leaf, pickled beets and cabbage, ground beef, cheese and hard boiled eggs. Chile rellenos - a stuffed chile, battered with an egg wash and stuffed with chicken or beef and veggies. Comes with a great tomato sauce and fresh onion on top. Chuchito - tamale with pork or chicken

On the recommendation of a friend, I set up a monthly "iDAT" (International Dine Around Town) for a group to which I belong. (Each month we visit a different ethnic restaurant based on the countries where we each have served as Peace Corps Volunteers). Even though the restaurant does not take reservations, out of courtesy I called a few days ahead to let them know we'd have a large group attending. "No problem, we have plenty of room for your group," was their response. (The restaurant has seating for 64 patrons.) Tikal Cocina Guatemalteca proved to be an international star... 5 stars to be exact. Nestled off the main road and at the end of a strip mall, adjacent to Home Depot, this beautifully clean and bright addition to the Nashville cuisine scene is decorated with colorfully painted walls and paintings of Guatemala. Our group arrived in a very staggered fashion (work and Nashville traffic played a role). Yet Francisco, the manager, and his staff were very accommodating. They immediately brought warm, fresh, crispy tortilla chips and delicious not-too-spicy salsa. Throughout the meal they continually replenished the chips in our baskets. and during the entire service, they insisted that if we did not like something, they would bring something else. We did not send anything back! We began with several appetizers. One was black bean and queso dip. When it was served, I did a double-take. It appeared to be simply a dish of anemic-looking white sauce. But wait! A dip or two later (with crispy tortilla chips) beneath this shimmering surface we discovered a delicious layer of smooth, slightly spicy, and muy sabroso frijoles negros (very savory black beans). What a wonderful combination! We also shared Chuchitos, a Guatemalan "pastelito," a corn husk wrapped blend of masa (corn flour and pieces of tender chicken)...Yes, it reminded several of us of tamales. Slightly sweet and fork tender. We also tried Enchiladas Guatemaltecas. This was probably the biggest and most delightful surprise of the evening--a single tostada (tortilla) piled high with lettuce, ground meat, hard-boiled egg slide in half, salsa, cheese, and parsley. But wait! It was also topped with a mound of delicious diced beets that were todavia deliciosa! We had several more familiar dishes that included Hilachas, a tomato-based beef stew jammed with tender shredded beef strands. And by jammed, I mean the bowl was absolutely filled with loads of beef as well as slices of potato, green beans, onions and carrots. It was served with slices of melt-in-your mouth avocado and a side of rice. Also on our table were traditional rolled tacos and Garnachas, (little 3-inch tortillas covered with ground beef, onion, tomatoes, cheese, cabbage and jalapeños.) By the way, none of the dishes were spicy, but all were nicely seasoned. The food was filling, the service superb, the ambiance amiable (muy amable en español), the decor delightful, the prices very reasonable (less than $10 per person). What a great night and delightful culinary find. Two notes of interest: 1) they do not have a liquor or beer license yet so you might want to BYOB 2) due to some technical issue, they will be changing their name to "Antigua" in the near future. But regardless of the name, you really must try this new and delightfully delicious Antioch gem.

Impressive! I'm not sure where to start? The beef steak was fabulous. I cut strips and wrapped in home made corn tortilla. I added pico, green sauce and mayonnaise as instructed. OMG! The tamal was a traditional Guatemalan tamal. The fried bananas with slice of queso fresco was incredibly good. This meal is about as authentic as you can get without actual being in Guatemala! One Thumb up! Quick note, Comparing Guatemalan to Mexican food (especially Tex-Mex) is apples to oranges. Guatemalan food is not spicy. The beauty lies in the texture, fragrance and simplicity of the food.

The food was amazing, the customer service was top notch. The icing on the cake was how clean the place was and the food is super amazing

My leftovers. Can't wait to eat this later. 100% corn tortilla, made in house.

Tasty and a large plate. Hit the spot! My to go box is full and heavy. And I'm full. These Guatemalans do it right!

I had never been to a Guatemalan restaurant before, so I was excited to visit Tikal Cocina. The restaurants was built into a strip mall that seems to be updated. I ordered three things: Chuchitos which was a slow roasted meat wrapped in a lead, a tamale, and enchilada Guatamaltecas. I didn't care for the third as it had beets. The presentation of the food was actually nice. Overall it was a good experience.

Glad I checked Yelp first because they were correct. I am so happy there's a great Mexican place near me. I would say its Mexican and a flavor of Honduras, and Guatemala. Staff are friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Carne Asada. I asked about the "Macaroni and mayonnaise" which seemed odd to me, but ordered nonetheless. The food came out and I was well pleased. The tortilla was home made and delicious. The carne asada was grilled to perfection. The green sauce was the right level of spice I love. The guacamole was delicious. I didn't much care for the macaroni and mayonnaise which was essentially just macaroni salad. But everything else was delicious. I ordered an horchata to go and the thing was massive. Totally recommend. EDIT: ok after reading all the reviews, this is solely a Guatemalan restaurant. Well fine by me, it is GOOD :)

Located in a relatively nondescript little building off of Nolensville Pike, a little past K&S Market, Laura's can be easy to miss. There's a dedicated free parking lot (which, admittedly could use some upkeep) in the back of the building. The inside is no frills but very clean and with friendly, attentive service. I came on a Sunday at peak lunch time and it was pretty sparse but slowly started filling up a bit. One main waitress took my order. I wanted to try a little bit of several things so got queso dip, authentic chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, a chicken Gordita, and a side of their hot sauce. As expected you get complimentary chips and salsa. These were tasty, went well with the perfect, drippy queso to start off the meal. The tacos were next: simple but very flavorful. Chicken and shrimp topped corn tortillas with finely chopped red onion, cilantro, snd crumbly delicious cotija cheese, served with wedges of lime and their hot sauce. These were awesome, very authentic, perfectly cooked, and tasty. The hot sauce was pretty spicy but also quite flavorful - it's a must order! The real standout of the meal was the Gordita. Even one is quite large. It was stuffed to the brim with refried beans, chicken, lettuce, and cotija. I added salsa and hot sauce. It mostly held together despite being so stuffed but was so, so delicious. The homemade masa flour covering was still hot from cooking when it came to me and exactly what I was craving. I was honestly too full to try more, but already thinking about my next visit. They've got a decent selection of Mexican items as well as some Honduran and Salvadoran specialties. The service is good, but a little too on top of us. I'm a slow eater and I don't like to feel rushed and the server asked like 5 times if we were good and if I needed a to go box. I just wanted to peacefully eat my nachos in the restaurant. The inside is pretty big and they do play sports on the TV.

Everything from the chips and salsa to the main entrées are on point. The pico de gallo is real fresh and tasty. Everything is fresh cooked to order. Particularly, I recommend the fresh pupusas. Perfect flavors and not greasy at all. I can't rave enough about it. Boss man raved about his chimichanga with tomatillo sauce. He was so happy he even ate avocado. He doesn't usually eat avocado!! He also tried the fresh beef taco and thought he was tasting stuff he hasn't had since San Diego. As for me, the carnitas was refreshingly good. Pork was cooked beautifully and the combo of rice beans salad and pico was unbeatable. The portions are extremely generous that we both took product home with us. One other Yelp reviewer commented about don't come here unless you bring your appetite. That reviewer was spot on. The staff is super nice. They can speak both English and Spanish. The place has kept very clean and neat. And they also play music that adds to the ambience. On the other TV they even had a rodeo playing!
