It's OK... we had a better experience the first time around. But to reassure, we decided to go there last night. The chips and the salsa are outstanding nice and warm. Also, they have Modelo on tap. That is great. I had the shrimp fajita, and my wife had the taco platter. Both were slightly missing. The shrimp seemed to be subpar tasting (I think they use a lower quality shrimp) and the whole platter was drowning in oil, and was highly underseasoned. My wife's tacos: the Cocinita was really salty! I like salt, don't get me wrong, but that is all you taste, then the cocinita taste finally comes in after a few minutes... that's really bad...The Carne was the opposite (totally bland) , and she had a chorizo which was a bad brand of a chorizo. (I'd say Supremo Chorizo is much better taste than this, and Supremo has nothing but filler in it). Very disappointing. Whatever vendor you're using, cancel them, they're doing you a huge disservice. All that for $73. Our server was very nice and she was very attentive. That's the reason why we did tip her 20%. When she asked about the food, he said it was great. We didn't want her to feel bad. She didn't cook it. & Why cause a scene? It was edible, but we're not coming back. Sorry, we arrived at 3 PM, before the rush scene at 5 PM. So there really was no excuse. You need to taste your food cooks... I am sure there are many who don't know the difference, but I've been to Many Mexican restaurants; including in Mexico. No not your vacation hotspots. I'm talking the real parts of Mexico. (Like Coyocan, (the outskirts in f Mexico City), Merida, Jalisco....etc... There's a huge difference.... ) So, we will still be driving far to find a great Mexican restaurant. The two that I still recommend are La Mera Mera in Libertyville and El Rodero in Streamwood. Both are small little places, but so well worth the trips.. So: They are the closest we can find to being authentic and care for the food they serve.... I finally gave in to trying this spot since it's so close to home. I did order online which was very easy and clear to be specific about making any changes. I ordered the chicken enchilada suiza with the chicken grilled. The order was ready when I got there and was so excited to try. The sauce was sooo salty and very creamy. I was only able to eat half of the three that came with the dinner. Also, I should've just ordered cheese enchiladas because of the amount of cheese on top was so much that you could even see the individual pieces. The beans that came with it also had so much cheese on them and were the consistency was not smooth and creamy like a traditional refried beans side. I will say though that their rice was delicious, perfect seasoning and light and fluffy. Though I will not be going back or eating food from there again. It was a disappointing experience. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles. The ambiance is nice and the staff is very friendly. Antigua offers happy hour during the week Monday through Thursday from 2pm until 5pm with a variety of cocktails, beer and margaritas to choose from for $5.99. The mango margarita and also the guava margarita were both excellent! They also offer 1/2 off select appetizers. The small guacamole was fresh and delicious. They are for a skirt steak and chili relleno combination platter that were both fantastic and amble for two people and their chili relleno is not overly spicy. Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Thursday night so it wasn't busy at all. Our food came out quick. Chips & salsa were great, but beware - the spicy salsa is super spicy! We shared the enchiladas, one each chicken, steak, and beef. Beef was a bit underwhelming but steak & checked were great. The guacamole was disappointing, it seemed like they added extra stuff to make it a larger serving (chunk tomatoes) and it just fell flat. Margarita was on point though! Lunch Review! Visited Antigua in Algonquin as a first timer and enjoyed myself. The inside is a mix of authentic decor, bright murals, neon signs, and mosaic tiles. The restaurant seemed quite large overall. Was tried some of the queso and guacamole with chips to start. The guacamole was alright hut I really enjoyed the queso. Complimentary salsa trios were also okay. For my entree, I got the taco salad which I liked. It was pretty greasy which ended yo making my stomach hurt later that day. I saw others get a variety of tacos which looked much more intriguing. Food didn't take long to come out after ordering. Overall, not a bad local Mexican spot. They looked to have a good variety of tequilas and cocktails which would be fun over dinner. read more

Went for lunch and our server was awesome. It was on the quieter side for lunch, but an off time. We ordered the guacamole and queso fundido. I really enjoyed the queso fundido and my mom loves the guacamole. The flavor is good but I don't care for the chunks of onions. We shared the chicken fajitas, which are in special on Wednesday for $12.99. The portion was huge. We each had 2 fajitas and there was so much chicken left over. Their chips & salsa is good. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. Service was extremely slow from start to finish. We ordered frozen margaritas, and by the time they finally arrived, they were already almost completely melted. After that, we waited an unusually long time for our food as well. When the food finally came out, the rice was very bland and lacked flavor. Overall, the quality did not match the wait time. What was most frustrating was the bill. We were charged a 20% gratuity surcharge for being a party of three, but our server never mentioned this at any point during the meal. The receipt labeled it as a large-party gratuity, which was surprising since a table of three is hardly considered a large group. A heads-up from the staff would have been appreciated. Between the slow service, disappointing food, and unexpected charge, this was not the experience I was hoping for. read more

Steak was a 3 inch by 4 inch portion ordered rare received medium well served with ONE grilled jalapeño and 1 grilled cebollita. 1/2 cup portion rice and 1/2 cup beans. It is so good to see life in this restaurant once again, after years of it sitting empty, and years of dim lights and quiet Italian music prior to that. The bright colors and loud Latin beats really transform this place from dust?-ick! to rustic, and the wall tiles and murals are especially eye-catching. Having just recently opened, it was expected that service might need to work out some kinks, and there were a few issues, but attitude was not one, and that's what counts. When we received our entrees and it was mentioned that the ceviche appetizer never made it to our table, we got a heartfelt apology, and then when we left, the ceviche to go, at no charge. Again, when you're new, there will be issues, but how you handle them says everything. All the food was good, as were the portions, and since the place is a bit upscale compared to a neighborhood Mexican joint, you'll pay a bit more for that. But chances are, the neighborhood joint won't have seafood stuffed pineapple on the menu. If you happen to be celebrating a birthday (there must've been at least three on the night we visited), be prepared for the guest of honor to be given a sombrero, along with a song featuring ratcheting noisemakers (like the New Years kind, but way beefed up) from the waitstaff. read more

First of all, I do recommend visiting this restaurant and we will again, but with additional things in mind next time. We sat outside on the patio/balcony, which was nice. The music was very loud so it wasn't very relaxing sitting outside like we had hoped. The chips were good but the salsa really wasn't thick enough to eat with the chips - it was very watery without much texture. I ordered a steak burrito dinner. The presentation was very nice and pleasant. However, my burrito was cut in half which I don't like since it allows it to cool much faster - which did occur - the burrito wasnt steaming hot and was only moderately warm. I had already waited a while for the foid to come out, so I didn't ask them to re-warm it. We didn't order any drinks. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience - it just didn't meet our expectations for being such a nice looking restaurant with a catchy name. We will give it another try, but I will ask for more traditional salsa that is more chunky. I'll also ask them not to cut my burrito and to make it extra hot. I also think eating on the patio will be nice to try at night instead of lunch time since we saw some nice lights and a fireplace that we assume are used at night. I would give this place a try if you've never been here before, but be very specific about what you want - ask questions. The server was very nice and did her best to provide good service. I was there to celebrate a birthday with friends this week and my complain is not about the food. Food was ok. Unfortunately as we were leaving we decided to take photos at their restaurant and left my purse behind. 10 min later I called them to tell them where I had left my purse and drove back but they said my purse wasn't there and their cameras were "active " but not "recording " I tried getting a hold of the manager (owner) but I wasn't successful and I never got a call back either. I felt like they could have help me more about my purse but they didn't. It's very disappointing that in only 10 min my purse disappeared from the restaurant. Tasty Food - Expansive Menu Set just off busy Randall Rd., you can satisfy your Mexican food taste buds at this eatery. There is an outdoor dining area in front of the restaurant and numerous booths and tables in the cozy dining room. We stopped in for lunch where complimentary chips and salsas are quickly brought to the table. They do not have a Lunch Menu or Lunch Specials, it's just the Dinner Menu. My wife had the Grilled Shrimp Salad ($19.99) and I had the Ala Carte Burrito ($10.99). Atop a bed of fresh mixed greens sat at least 15 tasty grilled shrimp with pico de gallo with refreshing pineapple and sliced avocado. A very unique and flavorful blended dressing of lime juice, cilantro and grilled jalapenos was on the side. As opposed to a regular burrito meal, the Ala Carte Burrito is not served with rice and beans. I chose chorizo as my protein from many options. The usual cheese, beans, lettuce, rice, tomato and sour cream join the chorizo in a large flour tortilla. I asked for a hot sauce and out came a container of a spicier salsa that worked perfectly. Our server, Julian, was very friendly and efficient and checked in with us often to see if we needed anything. They do have a full bar with numerous signature cocktails. So, there was zero flavor. Fish looked and tasted as if it was made earlier and then fried a second time. The tortillas were also stained blue from something. At first I questioned if it was mold. I've had my fair share of micheladas over the years, in all kinds of places and restaurants , but nothing and I truly mean nothing has ever come close to the one I had recently at Antigua Mexican Restaurant. From the very first sip, I knew this wasn't just a drink it was an experience. The flavors were perfectly balanced, tangy, spicy, refreshing, and bold all at once. It somehow managed to be exactly what I didn't even know I was craving. But what made it even more special was the bartender, Miguel. Not only does he clearly know his craft, but he made me feel genuinely welcomed. You can tell when someone pours heart into what they do, and Miguel absolutely does. His kindness and attention to detail just elevated the whole moment. It's not every day that a drink sticks with you, but this michelada did and honestly, I'm still thinking about it. The way this place is decorated is just lovely. They have a mural on the wall and it feels like a fun Mexican restaurant to be at. I came here on a Friday afternoon with my family. The chips and salsa that are complimentary were definitely my favorite part about this place. They were great. We also ordered tacos, seafood soup, and ceviche. My mom loved the soup. It was very tasty and had a variety of different seafood in there. She ordered it extra spicy and it lacked in that department so I hope there is a way to make it spicier in the future. My brother and I enjoyed our tacos. Not the best I have had but it did the job. Lastly, the ceviche was just not good. I'm not sure what it was but it tasted bland and had no good flavor to it. I went here because it's close to my house, they have an outdoor patio and drink specials. The food is subpar at best. I really went for the drinks. They have an instagram that claims all these drink specials and when you get there the waitstaff knows nothing about them and you never get charged properly. Overly expensive, lack of service and they get annoyed with you if you ask them to sit outside. I won't be returning to this establishment. read more
