Menu Bold American Fare May 26, 2025

We were seated immediately upon arrival. No reservations. But recommended on weekends. Waiter got drink order in upon being seated. Drinks appear seconds later. Got appetizer order in Shrimp Cocktail. Excellent! Huge shrimp but horseradish sauce was superb. Like St. Elmo's out of Indianapolis. Got our orders in for entrees. Wife got crab cakes. They were excellent. I got seafood pasta. Lots of lump crab and shrimp. Excellent. Loved the view of the Fox River. Small joint with excellent menu. High end steaks and seafood. Worth a visit.

I haven't been to my favorite place Bold American in a few months, Iv been trying a few new places. Bold is still number one. Vodka soda was icy cold then I had a side salad it was so crispy and fresh .I had the special strip steak done to perfection. It actually melted in my mouth. The asparagus had the perfect crunch. My husband had the pork chop he said it was juicy and delicious. Our friends had the strip steak also they said it was one of the best meals they had in a long while and they would be back. The decor is decorated very nice. Our waitress was so nice, and the owner was walking around making sure everyone was happy with there meal . It's a must try !!!!

Such a cute and homey restaurant in downtown Algonquin. There isn't much room inside but if you're able to snag a spot, I highly recommend coming here. They have a rotating menu depending on the time of year. I tried the pot roast from their fall menu and was very impressed. The prices are a bit on the higher end, though the amount of food you get certainly makes up for it. The portion of pot roast was quite large in my opinion. Big chunks of meat that shredded apart very easily, on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. It could have used some more vegetables though, as there were minimal small chunks of celery and carrots. The crispy onions on top were more than just a decoration and actually went quite well with the meal. The pot roast was very flavorful and with the large portion, gave me several days of leftovers! I also tried their New York cheesecake and it was a huge portion as well. Easily could have been split between 4 people. It was not as dense as other cheesecakes and went well with the berry sauce on top. I would love to come back and try out more of their menu!

Finally ... Tried Bold American Fare ! I've seen great reviews about BOLD for a while ... finally in the area to have dinner. It was awesome! Atmosphere was cozy and quaint. Reservations were easy to make online. We ended up arriving before our reservation and thankfully there was an open table. So many unique options to choose from on the menu and their specials. Scottie was our server - very attentive and knowledgeable. Always checking on how our meals / drinks were doing. Owner/manager (?) stopped by twice to see how we were enjoying our choices. Drink menu had many fun options to choose from- I tried their Purple Kush Tito's drink w/a splash of CBD oil Small plate appetizers were great - combined several to make a meal. Lobster poptart Stuffed blossom Green tomatoes with crab meat Crispy caramelized brussel sprouts The special seafood pasta was very filling with generous portion of crab / shrimp / lobster ~ chipotle sauce Wish I had saved room for their new chocolate strawberry martini. Guess we need to go back before it's off the menu Menu prices were reasonable, given the portions and quality of ingredients. I feel the specialty drinks were in line as well - most were 12-15 - mine had an upcharge with the oil. Looking forward to next time -- at BOLD american fare.

36 oz Wagu Tomahawk that is burnt to a crisp and very bitter tasting. The chef must've been sleeping behind the grill.

We ordered the Pop Over Rolls to start off our meal and they were some of the best rolls I've ever had. I really liked that they had a hint of cheese and the butter was also delightful. To eat, I ordered the Summer Corn Ravioli and it was one of my favorite pasta dishes I've probably ever had. I did get it without the mushrooms as I typically am not a fan of mushrooms but the ravioli was perfectly cooked and the flavors were simply divine. My party also ordered various meat dishes that they all raved about as well. We did order the brussel sprouts and asparagus to share - I enjoyed the asparagus but did not try the brussel sprouts given they had bacon in them. We didn't order dessert BUT did get a fantastic vanilla cake with raspberry sauce for dessert that our server brought given it was my mom's birthday dinner. The cake was SO delicious and I was very happy we got it! To top it off, our service was amazing throughout and it was an overall wonderful experience. Thank you, The Greggory team, for a great first experience! We cannot wait to be back!

Absolutely amazing, and they debone right at your table. Also had the crab pasta and had a good taste of our friends market Wagyu steak. It was like butter. Keep in mind. This is not going to be cheap though. If you're gonna go to this place, expect not only excellent service but not your McDonald's prices. Saw a couple of the next table come in and order a hamburger and fries. Seriously? You come to this place for a burger and fries? (Lol). I'm sure the burger and fries was excellent, but this place is not known to be a burger joint, even though it's on the menu but again, to each his or her own. I wouldn't come here just to have a burger. There are many other places that do that. Step it up a little. Come here for a higher tier of food caliber. That being said: Our server was excellent. The manager along with the chef / the wine "professor"- (he was excellent as well- extremely knowledgeable, and paired our bottle of wine perfectly with all our meals) along with everyone else who came by to check on us. But our server was absolutely attentive and great. He wasn't pushy and he was very easy-going but very astute and had all the attention to detail. So hopefully we made his night when we came to the tip. (we weren't slouches, nope.). I wish I remembered his name, it wasn't a typical name, but he was outstanding. That being said, make sure that you pack away a couple "bones" when you see the check- also make sure that you tip your waiter for the outstanding job that they do. So don't skimp on that either. So again: It isn't cheap, but a place like this shouldn't be. We had a great experience overall- Also, this isn't your T-shirt and shorts type of place. You have to dress up. No schleps.. Capeesh?!!? leave your sandals at home. Which it should be. This is an experience, not your local In-N-Out Burger joint. Excellent and tasteful decor- excellent service highly highly highly recommend.

We started with mimosas (only way to start a Sunday morning breakfast). What we ordered: * Steak Hash- my husband said this is his new favorite breakfast meal. This is a man who loves breakfast over any other meal. Order the steak hash, you will not be disappointed. * Piquant sausage crostata- I absolutely loved this dish. It was bursting with flavor in each bite. Definitely had a kick of spice, which I love. I think we have found our new Sunday brunch spot! Thank you Chef Patrick and Kathleen for giving us wonderful food and a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy our early Sundays.

Let me start by writing that this place deserves five stars and should be five stars, and I wanted…read moreso badly to give it five stars. But sadly there was a private event that spread the kitchen very thin and it took away from the overall experience. Food: 5.0/5.0 - Everything we ate was awesome. We did the Wood-Fired Artichoke, the Two Pigs in a Basket Crostata, the Steak Hash, and the Arugula Salad. Everything was cooked and flavored nicely but I wish the steak hash had more steak. (See my photos) Service: 4.5/5.0 - The server was kind and Joe was walking around checking in regularly, making sure we were protected from the rain. I dinged half a point because the server didn't have the best explanations for why everything was out. More on that later. Ambiance: 4.0/5.0 - I think on a normal evening on a date, this place would be 5.0/5.0. The decor is rustic/modern and it felt like a vacation spot that you'd visit on the Florida coast. Loved the brassware and the attention to detail in the presentation of food. It was a Sunday afternoon when we were there, so the band across the street was disruptive to the feel outside the restaurant in the garden and patio. By 3:00pm the flies and gnats were becoming annoying. So good scores in general and worthy of 5 stars, but alas, the kitchen was not prepared for the afternoon private party along with the crowd from the night before... apparently. They were "unable to make" or were out of several dishes. From what I can recall, there were no: pizza pies, whitefish, and chimichurri. They also ran out of all soda except a few bottles of Coca Cola. And there was no beer on tap because the keg was broken, so they only had Guinness and Stella bottles. Because of this, it stung to pay the prices we did for our items. I'd say a fair price point with all said and done is probably $3-$4 less on any item here. Crostatas were great, but maybe for $13. I'd pay $16 for the steak hash. I'm sure if we came back on a weeknight, this place would be amazing. Great people, great food, and everything in stock. If we came back, I'd love to upgrade this review to 5 stars. The problem is, the price may keep us from giving this place a second try.

Our server last time i went was also the bartender, and the other staff were kind enough to step in and help him with our orders, and he himself was more than helpful enough. The interior of the resturaunt was beautiful with wonderful lighting and a very cohesive layout, but i do have two complaints: the tables are very small and the booths are very low. When you order at a tapas resturaunt, you dont really get just one or two plates at a time, and when a solid quarter of the table is being occupied by the standup menus, the water glass, and the decorative flowers, it gets crowded very quickly. Overall a 9/10. Definitely a wonderful place to go with friends, family, or even on your own!
