I loved this place! It has a cozy bar setting and wonderful food. I ordered the chipotle smash burger, so good. They even had a gluten free bun for us celiac's out there. Our server was Elijah. I've been to Cattlemens about three times now. Two other times just for standard cocktails. The bartender was very nice. The Cobb salad was excellent, ample with homemade ranch and blue cheese. Ordered for delivery and was a little worried it might have been too far and it would be cold or taste badly but it was great! We got cheese curds that came with a chipotle ranch (so good). My BF got the Swiss mushroom steak burger medium with a side of fries and he said it was very good (it was gone in minutes lol). I ordered the chopped steak with baked potato and it also came with fresh grilled mixed veggies on the side and everything was delicious. The mushrooms on top were the perfect texture/cook and so was the meat. Next time we eat here we'll probably go to the restaurant and dine-in. I would imagine it would be even better! read more

My wife and I stopped in because we were in the area, and we were both pleasantly surprised. She had a burnger on a gluten-free bun with an order of fries cooked in a fries-only fryer. She said it was pretty tasty, and morlst importantly, she didn't get glutened (she has celiac disease). I had the chili mac. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the chili was a nice meaty sauce to compliment the pasta. Honestly, my only issue is that the booths are incredibly tiny. There is only about 13-14 inches between the table and bench seat, which made it nearly impossible for my pregnant wife to sit in the booth and completely impossible for my scar-tissue-filled abdomen to fit without severe pain. We got seated at the only booth being served by the bar tender. Just our luck. She was one of the worst servers I've ever had. At one point I caught her attention and she waved her hand at me, as if to blow me off, and turned her back and walked away. We were blown away at the horrible service from her. Every other table was well served by the staff (not sure why we got screwed) and a another server actually did everything for the bartender/server as we just grabbed whoever we saw to help. Food was awful. Ordered a patty melt (med rare) came out well. Almost zero onions on bread that was triple the size of the burger. I've had 100's of patty melts and this was the furthest thing you could find from one. This is supposed to be a burger joint. Absolutely garbage. Cheese was evaporated. Chicken wings were delivered semi cold and one of the worst Buffalo sauces I've had. This was the third time we've tried this place. It's been 0-3 for us on food. 5/5 for atmosphere at the bar if you're drinking. Just maybe get something to eat that has zero human error factored into it. I've lived in "Old Algonquin" for 4+ years and have always considered this place a neighborhood institution. The appetizers were always delicious. The cheese curds & calamari were always my favorite. For dinner, I always would go with the Patty Melt, substitute tater tots. It was always extremely filling, cooked perfectly medium-rare, and the bread toasted and crisp. We always enjoyed dining outside on a gorgeous day in "Old" Downtown Algonquin. The winter came and went. We recently ordered delivery as the weather was terrible and it wasn't walkable. I live in the apartments within view. You can easily walk it on a nice day. My father and I both ordered the patty melt with tater tots. I've never been so disappointed in my life. Something has changed in a big, bad way here. The food isn't the same. The patty melt was one big lump of dry, overcooked ground beef. They refused to allow me to order it medium or medium rare. It was cooked well done to a crisp. The bread was extremely soggy and the tater tots were WAY over cooked. Our dinners went into the garbage. We also got curds and the calamari. The calamari clearly changed. It's tough and just terrible. There were rumors the business was sold. I can't vouch for that. I can tell you something has changed. The food is terrible. Reviews are beginning to slide in a bad direction. If it was sold, I'd suggest the new owner return to what we know and love. Otherwise, you will not last here. I may give it another try down the road. However, for now food is too expensive to throw away. I truly hope they return to what I and others are used to. read more

They sure are busy on a Saturday night. Was told it might be thirty minutes for a table. However, our table was ready in about fifteen minutes. While you are reading the menu, a basket of popcorn is delivered to your table. Lisa was a very attentive waitress who took good care of us. She refilled our waters without being asked. We decided to try their hand-packed burgers. Hubby ordered the blue cheese burger and upgraded the fries to sweet potato fries. Teen son ordered the bacon cheese burger with fries. I ordered the Main Street Cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese and sweet potato fries. Hubby and I both asked for medium well burgers and our son wanted his well done. Unfortunately, all our burgers came well done. The burgers are bulging (not flat) and on the dry side. Hubby and I much prefer our burgers to be juicy and a little pink. Came here on a Saturday night and had around a 20 minute wait. We decided to go with burgers and I got a Haymaker Stout. The burgers were good, maybe a bit dry; I had a Blackened burger and it was good. I upgraded to Sweet Potato fries and they were really good for only $1 more. The place was packed but when we left it was maybe 1/2 full. Getting in was a bit of a challenge as Main Street is closed but you can go past Main Street and get into the lot behind them. So why three stars? I have had a better burger at Red Robin, which I love their burger. No beers on tap - buy one and hope you like it. If I go to Woods Creek or Bulldog I can sample what I want. And a long wait for a small place. Don't get me wrong, if I lived near Main Street I would like this place a lot, but I live west of Randall Road and getting to Randall Road is hard enough. Cattleman's has a bar area and has some parking in the rear. One major issue I have is the booths. You can really feel the person behind you move around which prompted me and my brother to move to the bar. On another note, the bar seats were actually pretty comfortable. Service This one is where the mishap sort of happened. We ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and a regular burger with cheddar cheese. What first game out was the the mushroom Swiss burger and a Mac and cheese burger. That was taken back and we were brought another mushroom Swiss burger. The 3rd attempt, the burger was raw. I can kind of see why it was raw, due to them trying to rush it. The service on the other hand was good. They were pretty attentive to our needs (refills) and did get things in a timely manner. Food The burger were pretty well seasoned. The burger also had a good bun to meat ratio. One thing I would say is that it does not really come with condiments in the burger, I had to ask for mayo for my mushroom Swiss. You also get a choice of tater tots or French fries. The burger also comes with some coleslaw. It was okay, but I did not really see the point of it. Price Cattleman's would be in the mid price range for the food that you get. Most of the menu items are $10 and above. Overall Overall, it was a decent experience despite some hiccups, which was resolved. The booths can be a bother so I would recommend sitting at the bar or at a table. The is parking in the back which helps. read more

Couldn't find the cheese, the bacon was limp, not crispy, and the onion crisps were tasteless. Ordered fries and tots. Fries came cold and tots were lukewarm. Later that night had an upset stomach. Have no idea why people think this is a good burger place but I'll never go back. Too many other great burger places to go at the same price point.
