This was one of the few places we had browsed for engagement rings. What we appreciated was that we were allowed time and space to just have a look and gather our thoughts on different pieces. When it came time to start trying rings on and getting more information, Mindi was extremely helpful and friendly. You don't get bombarded with the vibe that they are trying to sell you something like we experienced at other places. You sincerely feel like they are there to help you navigate what to some (and it was to me) is an intimidating experience, especially when you're not the kind of person who knows exactly what you want and you need help finding it. We happened to be the only people there for most of our time and loved the undivided one-on-one attention we got. We asked about what can be done on the ring that ultimately I ended up receiving and I loved the versatility that they offered. For me, Mindy and Dave turned an infinity band into a ring that can be re-sized as needed. They walked us through the customization process and we walked away feeling happy with our decisions. We are so happy with the results. The rings are beautiful, and are sure to become family heirlooms. We look forward to wearing these rings! The rings were finished in a short amount of time and fit perfectly. It's a small thing, but the ring boxes are also beautiful. Normally, I end up throwing away the ring boxes in favor of a jewelry box, these ring boxes are going to be around for a while. The last and most important thing was the financing options. Mindy talked us through our options on our first visit, and it was pretty clear that we had lots of fair and flexible ways to pay for our rings. Firstly, Michael's has the best engagement/ wedding ring selection in Alaska. The diamonds are amazing, the cuts are unique, and the designers are exquisite. I guess the only downfall is that most of the jewelry are wedding rings, so (hopefully) you're only making one purchase. I wish they had more so I could stop in and buy things with much less commitment! Don't get me wrong, they do have non-wedding jewelry, but it's certainly geared more towards the wedding crowd. Be careful when purchasing from Michael's. I purchased an engagement ring here and ordered the stone to go with. When said stone arrived I was assured from the couple that owns the shop that the paperwork with the specs would arrive later and not to worry. After repeated phone attempts and visits to get the certification on the diamond, I received it in the mail almost a month after it came in. I was shocked to find out how off they were on the previously agreed specs (written out on paper). They sold me a stone that was far under the agreed upon specs. I took the diamond to several jewelry shops around town and was told how significant the drop off in value was with their bait and switch sales technique. When I tried to return the diamond, I was told I don't know anything about jewelry and they would not take it back. The husband Dave even told me our marriage would be cursed because we were trying to return our engagement ring. Who says that to a young couple investing so much money for a ring they wear the rest of their lives? This whole situation was too much drama. Lesson learned- don't TRUST their word on anything, these two are as dishonest as I've ever seen. I have lived in Anchorage all my life and have never had a situation so out of hand. I have a peaceable temperament and these people make you want to take a shower after dealing with them. This is by far the most obvious crooked dealing I have ever experienced. These people keep an attorney that threatens legal action (you may be liable to pay for their attorney fees is their threat) if you even bring up small claims court. Shop these people- there are other jewelers out there who will be honest and honorable. read more
