Rude and can find a better place to spend my money. Arrived and doors were locked before posted closing hours. Staff inside bit didn't come to door - I had to knock. When answered door he rudely stated it was past closing time. When I mentioned that it was before posted closing he curtly stated "it is past 5:30 and they are closed." According to both my phone at watch it was only 5:00." I have spent many years visiting antique shops and have never had anyone so rude, especially when faced with customers wanting to spend money at their store. I definitely will be shopping somewhere else and never be back regardless of their location. It is establishments like these that give good dealers a bad wrap. Shame on them!!!!! read more

Although the store is clean, well organized, and includes quality vintage / antiques, there is an ongoing history of substandard (and often offensive) customer service. Perhaps it's time for one sales associate 'Carol' (a long time employee of the shop) to retire since her ongoing pattern of a lack of personable customer service and notable irritability is a blemish to Antique Gatherings. Additionally, Carol's agitated and unfriendly demeanor is unpleasant for shoppers that patronize and support the store with purchases. My wife and I enjoyed the selection. We're not antique collectors or anything but enjoyed browsing. As others have said, I'm almost positive we were being followed. There was a gentleman who asked if we needed help when we first arrived and we politely declined, but every time we entered a new aisle, I could see him out of the corner of my eye pretending that he was just patrolling the store. This happened at least five different times where he conveniently ended up in the same general area as us (and the store is fairly big, with many of the areas looking extremely similar so it was not a coincidence). It was very annoying and disrespectful in my opinion, especially considering that there were plenty of others in the store at the same time, yet here he was following us specifically. To top it all off, the woman at the front desk wasn't very pleasant to deal with and told me that debit card transactions need to be at least $15, which was not listed anywhere on the front desk. She seemed annoyed that I was inconveniencing her and I wanted the interaction to end almost as soon as it began. Overall, my wife and I really did like the selection this place has but if you decide to check it out, be prepared to be followed and receive lackluster customer service. read more

Carol (old woman working at the front desk) was extremely rude to my mom and I when we went in today. The minute we set foot in the door she instantly glared at us. There was no greeting just a dirty look. We roamed through the grossly over priced store looking for unique items and we're not surprised by the fact that we were suddenly being followed by a young man who worked there.... When I saw followed I mean through EVERY AISLE! Whatever. I actually ended up finding some reasonably priced purses and headed to the counter to face Carol The fire-breathing dragon. As I expected she was rude throughout the entire transaction. She huffed and puffed as if I were bothering her by purchasing something. BTW she had no problem greeting the other people in line... This place can salvage a couple of stars from me because there are a couple of booths here with spiffy shit -- unusual, quirky, one-of-a-kind type stuff. The major turnoff at this place was the godawful exorbitant prices. Like, I think I actually laughed out loud once after flipping over a price tag. Good place to come by and walk around. I like to look at every single thing in the booths cause you never know what you might come across. You might find that one thing you were looking for. My dad use to take me antique shopping back in Indy all the time. And there are tons of antique shops in the Midwest. Cause they're old school like that. I have been coming here for years. I have purchased lots of different things and generally find something every time I come. However, these days it is hard to find someone to help you. I certainly don't want to deal with the older lady who stands behind the front counter. Sometimes you want to look at something in a case, but are not going to walk around the store looking for someone with a key. Antique business is a tough business, and there are many dealers in the store. I would suggest that customer service and dealing with people in a friendly way would be a good place to put some time into. read more

After re-visiting today I'm updating my review! Antique Gatherings is a higher end store. They've got very unique and expensive antiques from independent dealers. The store does have more moderate antiques but as Jana S mentioned, you'll have to be prepared to dig for them. The dealers or store don't seem to be proactive in maintaining an easy shopping experience. Now with that said - it's all about the merchandise - and they deliever. There's some very unique and one of a kind items here. That alone makes the store worth visiting. The downside is, they don't seem to have any desire to adjust prices for the current economy. Worth a visiting at least once every few months however! read more

So I was there I saw a couple of cool things there an hour goes by and when I go up to the front desk to ask to see something like a normal customer would and the lady tells me that security called and the lady told me in super a condescending voice tells me that I can't be looking at stuff and having people open stuff like a normal customer with money would ( me being 14) she assumed that I didn't have any money. I mean the security called the front desk on a 14 year old. 1/10 would definitely not recommend and if you want to go antiquing go to antique trove it's so much better and they'll treat you so much better I go there every month and not once has anyone used a condescending voice at me ( at least not the workers) read more

I was just at antique gatherings which has been one of my favorite places to shop in the valley. But as it got closer to closing time they started turning off lights at 10 minutes to 5:00 PM and I felt very rushed. I had several things in my hand and walked up to the counter at eight minutes till and felt so awkward and pressured that I decided not to purchase anything. I am assuming that the owner of the store was not present. If I owned a business I would expect my employees to close at 5 PM. There was also someone standing guarding the door at eight minutes until five to ensure that no one tried to come in. I would like to think that that was not the owner and if it was that is a very tacky way to do business. read more

I agree with others that carol is rude. I stopped by a few weeks ago 17 minutes before closing on a Friday and as soon as I opened the door carol told me to leave. They weren't closed for another 15 minutes. I knew what time they closed when I drove there, and I also knew exactly what I was looking for and could have finished my shopping in this small store in 5 minutes. The store is also grossly overpriced compared to other valley stores. I stop in every now and then anyway because I live close by, and have for years, so I don't get followed like others. Or didn't. Let me just preface this by saying that I understand that there are quite a few expensive, high end items within the store, so some level of caution should be had to make sure nothing happens to said items. However, my experience here was nothing short of awful. I came in here one morning and about half way through my visit I started to notice that the older woman in glasses seemed to always end up in the same area as myself. Even when I was just innocently browsing, I felt the dead stare of this woman behind my back. It made me incredibly uncomfortable, as she seemed to be using my outer image to make the assumption that I was going to take something. Even when I was picking up the plastic pot of a real Golden Pothos plant to see if it was listed for sale, she condescendingly yelled "Good Morning." over to me as if to make me painfully aware that she was indeed watching me. In conclusion, I will not be back here, and I recommend that no one that isn't an affluent Baby Boomer go either. read more

While they have some nice things, I find their prices to be high compared to the market standard. While I was - I won't say followed, necessarily, but it was rather obvious that this man was an employee in charge of merchandise control and somehow managed to be in nearly every aisle as me at the same time - I was never once greeted by any of the employees, from the 2 at the counter to the men moving items to my "shadow" there in the aisles. Very off-putting. I came with ready money but I was so put off by the demeanor here that I didn't bother buying anything. read more

I didn't come here for antiques, but this place is fabulous. I was in a car accident in front of the store. While I was waiting for help, the owners offered me water. When the tow truck took longer than expected to arrive, they invited me inside to get out of the heat. When the tow truck didn't show after 3 hours, Caroline called again on my behalf and Joe gave me a ride home. I really appreciate their kindness in helping me out on a day when I was in a really big bind. I'll definitely make this my first stop when I need antiques. One of the best antique stores I've ever been too. You'll have to have some tome to take a few laps, but believe me when I say there is some hidden gems in there. On two different occasions I got some beautiful decor for my barber shop. I try to pop in at least once a month and see what new things they have inside. I've never been one to get all bent out of shape when someone follows me around. First of all, they have assets to protect. Who can fault them for that? Second, they don't know you from Adam. This is hands down my favorite antique shop. I've been to most of the shops in phoenix and this one always stands out to me. I always seem to find something that I have to have wether it be some old black and white photos or a bear rug! The staff is friendly and will help you find what your looking for if you require something specific. They will also call the booth owner if you would like to make an offer on a piece. Everything is reasonably priced for the most part and the content stays filtered. This is a wheelchair friendly store and also clean. There's only a few areas I can't get the wheelchair, but someone will help if you ask. It's like any other store...some prices are more than fair and some are very high. You don't find much junk here...it goes from high end glass items to collectibles of any price. It's true about being watched, it must come from the experience of people stealing, but it's still a bit uncomfortable. We just ignor that and go about with our exploring. read more

My wonderful hubby and I were enjoying our first day in Scottsdale, Arizona by searching for treasures at local antique stores. We went to the Antique Trove and I found a few little gems, but my hubby was looking for something more automotive related. The owner there suggested antique gatherings so we headed that way. As soon as we walked through the door, the woman behind the counter shouted "we are closed you will have to leave the store!" I explained that we had just arrived from California and that this was the only time that we had available. I asked if we could just zip through really quick for just a little look, but she said "no" and the gentleman escorted us to the door. She said they were open over the weekend, but I stated we would not be returning and would spend our money elsewhere. She retorted "that's fine!" what happened to good customer service? If she would have been polite it would have been a totally different experience and we probably would've returned... Not the case! With this economy customers have many choices of where to spend or in this case NOT spend their money. We will never go back to this establishment! read more

Other yelpers aren't kidding about side eye looks! My boyfriend and I went in there with are cameras just to take pictures for fun. The first thing we did upon entering was ask if it was ok to do that. The lady at the front said it was fine. We wandered around just playing around with my newly acquired camera. When we were about ready to leave the same lady that okayed the pictures asked for my boyfriends drivers license and says security asked for it in case things end up on ebay. We are both questioning how we could possibly sell things we clearly DO NOT own. I offered 3 times to delete the photos since they are really of no use. I clearly stated at least twice that it was for fun. She refuses and says that she is fine as long as she has my boyfriends information. We leave but we are both so offended for being treated as criminals that we drive back and my boyfriend goes in and asks for the managers name. After 15 minutes he comes out with his information and tells me that there never was any security. The older woman at the counter just got "concerned". Then accused my boyfriend of taking pictures of the security system. We were not even aware they had one for the hour plus we were there!! Needless to say we shall not be returning! read more

Lots of fun! Prices, mostly, are reasonable. All the booths belong to different "dealers", so they set the prices they want. A few things are costly, but that's why it's important that the buyer educates him or herself. It's a big place, with dozens of "booths, so give yourself a treat & plan on spending some quality time here. Employees, in general are pleasant & helpful. Of course you can expect them to "check on you"...every store does that. I don't take offense. I purchased a big item that had to be delivered and the staff could not have been nicer & more helpful. As Megan D. said, the staff will make you feel like a criminal. I went in the store with my girlfriend and the first thing we asked the manager was if we could take pictures. We told her if it was an issue we would leave our cameras in the car. She told us it was fine and we were there for an hour snapping away and having a grand time. As we made our way to the front she tells me that I am clogging the aisle and that she needs to see my ID. She told me that security told her to take it. I then asked where the security people are located and she said that they had left. Further into the conversation she said that the manager told her to take it. I asked who the manager was and she said there was no manager and proceeded to say security had asked for it. I called her out on the inconsistency of the story and she said she never said that she told me that a manager asked her to take the information. One of the employees finally took me to the side while she was helping a customer and told me that she was the manager and was concerned I was casing the place to later rob it. She accused me of taking pictures of the security system and being too detailed with my shots. I'm a photographer and all I was looking for was nice pictures. I insisted that she watch as I deleted all photos that I took, but she said all she needed was my information. Needless to say, I will not be coming back to this antique store. The items are priced too high and many things are not even antiques. This experience ruined a rather fun day up to that point. read more

I love this store. So many beautiful objets d'art. Regarding others comments about being followed...that's common in antique stores in the Phoenix Metro area. From the holidays through June there are a lot of out of town visitors and in general there are just a lot of shoplifters and tricksters. You'd be surprised at what walks out the door when it's busy (thinking of Antique Trove). I go to a lot of antique stores and it takes about 4 visits before personnel gets comfortable with new faces. Walk in and introduce yourself - helps take the edge off! The ladies at the front register have been very kind to me. I've seen jewelry here that is not as plentiful in other stores. Prices are higher, but it's a very posh neighborhood just north of the store. Go in and look around. Give them a chance. They can be super accomodating with layaways. The booths are well cared for and there are some magnificent chandeliers and pendant lamps! Beautiful furniture and generally well-lit. I love the ambiance. The only drawback - it closes early. But I understand that working people like to go home, too! Angel kisses. read more
