    Lobster Tail pastry

Love this bakery! Fantastic pastries and my first Lobster Tail. Perfectly flaky, perfect amount of sweetness. I come back every time I visit MA.

    Everything is good!

This is an amazing pastry shop! When we walked into the store, it was a literal treat for the senses. It smelled so good, and all the pastries looked delicious on display. I especially liked how they fill the cannoli to order. We got a variety of pastries to enjoy at home with family for the holidays; some cannoli, eclairs, scones, Whoopi' pies, etc.. everything tasted amazing. Even though there was a big line, it was worth the wait, the staff are very helpful and friendly. This is a great place for dessert whenever we are in the area!

Lobster tail, pistachio cannoli, chocolate chop cannoli, Florentine, and Napoleon

Best pastries in Boston! Lobster tail is filled with the sweetest whipped cream/pastry cream, the pistachio cannoli is the best in town filled with the tastiest ricotta filling! The iced sugar cookie is a bit pricy, but worth it because of its beautiful decoration! The owner is so kind and friendly and the service is quick and convenient!

This is a cozy little bakery in Newton. There are a good variety of pastries and cakes offered. You don't need to order cakes ahead of time, as there were several on display and available when we went. Staff were friendly, plenty of street (metered) parking. Decent prices and the things we tried were delicious. The cookies and cream cake looked good and tasted great. The lobster tail was of decent size and the cream filling was excellent and not overly sweet or bland. I'd come here again for cakes and pastries.

Cannolis - especially loved the Florentine ones.

We were overwhelmed at the aromas, choices and helpful friendly staff at this local neighborhood Italian bakery. We bought all flavors and shells of cannolis, cinnamon horns (um, addictive), a lobster tail, and a thickly latticed cherry pie. Oh my goodness, be prepared for a sugar coma because you won't be able to stop at one bite. Best pastries and pie we've ever had; it beats anything we've had in the North End hands down.

I dropped by this pastry shop two months ago for a quick dessert. I got a cannoli and a almond braided roll. The cannoli was made to order and the ricotta cheese was very fresh. However, the almond flavored shell was a bit sweet. The almond braided roll was stale and hardly had any almond flavor. Very disappointing...

Whoopie Pie with a SERIOUS amount of frosting, and a delightful Half Moon

What is it about bakery boxes with the old-school bakery twine that makes people happy? I worked at a bakery in high school, I remember wrapping the twine and having a callus on one finger the entire time I worked there but I was just thinking that newer places don't use the twine so much... they have fancy stickers. Stickers are fine (and easier on the hands for sure) but the twine is the giveaway that you will be eating something really exciting, perhaps your favorite childhood goodies? I haven't been in Antoine's for years - not because I haven't passed by, but because I just have no self control in bakeries. None. I couldn't decide between the Whoopie Pie or a Half Moon, so I did what any reasonable person who has been living for 13 months in a Covid world: I got both! Whoopie Pie was nice and cakey, stuffed with frosting and perfect. The Half Moon had a slight lemony taste to the bottom, and delicious frosting on top. I liked their use of a milk chocolate frosting instead of a darker one, it made for a "lighter" taste (especially after the whoopie pie!). The two girls working mid-afternoon on Sunday April 18th were very nice, hard to tell their ages since we all have masks on, but late teens?

Eclair, hazelnut filled donut, chocolate cake donut, mini cheesecake, rainbow cookie ($11.75 total, October 2020)
    Logan D.

Pros: -They have donuts! -Lots of other delicious options -The staff beautifully boxed and tied up our order Cons: -$5.00 card minimum -Street parking 2 donuts, a huge eclair, mini cheesecake and tiny rainbow cookie for $11.75 (no receipt, so not sure the cost of any individual items, but it seemed like a fair price for this haul) Rainbow Cookie Absolutely delicious and the jam really came through. Unfortunately so small! Definitely get multiple. Eclair Over 6oz, perfectly semi-sweet/semi-bready dough, loaded with filling. Donuts (Iced Chocolate Cake and Hazelnut Filled) Good chocolate icing and hazelnut filling, but definitely on the drier side because neither was glazed before being frosted. Maybe a 2-2.5/5 for the donuts. Still, I was happy to see them. They also had Pumpkin cake, Apple cider cake, and I think a basic frosted donut flavor while I was there. I would definitely go back!

    Almond twist... solid

I had never tasted one of Simren's cakes before, nor did I know anyone personally who had ordered from her, so the decision felt like serious leap of faith. The price point also gave me pause, especially since it is easily twice that of established local bakeries like Konditor Meister, Yum Bunnies, Donnas, Flour, or Icing on the Cake, etc. However, after speaking with Simren, it became immediately evident that her work exists on an entirely different level. Her passion, artistry, and meticulous attention to detail are truly extraordinary. I ordered a Harry Potter themed cake for my child's 8th birthday, and I was absolutely astonished. The cake was nothing short of a masterpiece. The golden snitch, Harry's glasses, the sorting hat, and an unbelievable edible fondant book with the number 8 on top looked cinematic in their precision. The photographs do not even begin to capture how breathtaking it was in person. And then there was the taste. We chose vanilla cake, triple berry mascarpone, raspberry preserve infused with saffron, cardamon, and rose... it was unquestionably the finest cake we have ever tasted. Made with the cleanest, freshest, highest-quality ingredients and just the right touch of sweetness, it felt both indulgent and perfectly balanced. Every guest devoured it and wanted to know where it came from. After 40 years of trying bakeries throughout Massachusetts, I can say with complete confidence that this is in a league of its own. Simren is not simply a baker. She is a true artist. Not Just Cake transformed our celebration into something unforgettable. It is an absolute must-buy!

I'd heard about nothing Bundt cakes from colleagues but never had any close to me so when I had the chance to sink my teeth into some deliciousness, I jumped at the opportunity. Walked in to an empty store around 5 on a Saturday and was quickly greeted. It was clean and bright with the display case being the first thing you see. The flavors are pretty well outlined online so I knew exactly what I wanted and was on my way in minutes. When I got home I started the project of trying each of the 4 flavors I got. The current special is Oreo peanut butter and it was surprisingly good; wasn't sure if PB would go well with the Oreos but it did! There was a nice chunk of PB in the center. Also had the carrot, cookies and cream and white chocolate raspberry. All of them were delicious and tasted fresh. It's Bundt cake so I didn't expect it to be super moist but it wasn't desiccated either. At just under $8 for a personal cake I felt like the price was reasonable. I've definitely paid more at some of the fancy cookie places that exist.

They were very patient, answered all our questions, and overall were delightful to talk to. The interior of the shop is also something that needs it's own appreciation post because the decorations make the shop look so much cooler too! As for the desserts -- in the dessert case, they had a series of "cakes in a jar," which is also what motivated me to come to the store. They had some seasonal flavors like Apple Cider, Pumpkin, Butterbeer, etc., and some standard flavors (Oreo, Earl Grey, Funfetti, etc.). Given that fall is in full swing, I opted to try the Butterbeer Cake in a Jar and honestly, I loved it! The frosting is a bit on the sweeter side (I am a huge fan of frosting, so no complaints from me). Both the cake and the frosting had a really nice butterbeer (butterscotch) flavor which wasn't overpowering, but it was very pleasant. Because the cake is kinda squished into the jar, it is a little "crumble-y" but the frosting really holds it together. I will definitely be coming back and I'm excited to try more flavors!
