I think this was a case of ordering wrong, but I didn't love my experience at Bettina's Bakery. I ordered the Honduran Baleada, which was a bit of a letdown. Almost $10 for a tortilla with beans and eggs feels like a bit of a ripoff. For some reason, I thought there would be a bit more to it. Each topping was extra, so if you wanted some meat and avocado, you'd be looking at almost $15 for a very small burrito. My favorite time of my morning is when I stop in here for either a blueberry muffin or a lemon scone, my two favorites. I've tried other scones and the breakfast sandwich and all are delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm so glad we discovered this homey bakery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So far my husband and I have enjoyed the coffee & Americano (Fazenda), fresh out of the oven concha (fluffy and barely sweet how I like it), cheddar scallion scone, German apple cake (like a short crust apple pie), cinnamon roll (wish it had more cinnamon sugar filling), and the maple oat scone (crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside without being dry), and chicken cutlet sandwich. My favorite so far has been the guava & cheese brioche, and I was lucky enough to get one still warm around 10am Saturday. I really appreciate that the baked goods aren't too sweet and I'm looking forward to trying the muffins soon (I saw someone eating one packed full of blueberries)! We stopped specifically because my husband wanted a pastry and had planned to sit and enjoy but when we got there, there didn't seem to be a bathroom, so we had to go home after we ordered! What coffee shop doesn't have a bathroom? The 4 stars are because the chocolate croissant and berry crumb were spectacular. What a lovely little family owned bakery! I believe the family is from Honduras given a few of the unique menu items. My favorite item was a drink that was half cold brew and half horchata. The coffee was light and the horchata's sweetness was just the right balance. It was so refreshing and different. The pastries were also fresh and there was a nice mix of familiar items and more unique items. We had the blueberry scone which was a bit different from other scones I've had in that it was moist and had a touch of salt in it. I liked it since I find most scones too dry. We also had the passionate fruit cake which was really moist and had such a bright, fruity icing to go along with it. Big fan. There was a small but diverse assortment of sandwiches for lunch that I wish we had a chance to try because they use homemade bread. Give it a try! Just be aware they have summer hours right now. Bettina's has a super cute atmosphere, very cozy. Brick wall and nice natural lighting. They have a communal bookshelf which I thought was a really nice addition for kids and families. I just got a muffin and coffee which was really good but would definitely want to try the food menu. They have things like egg sandwiches, tacos, salads, and more. Employees were really friendly. This café is just plain lovely! My wife and I especially enjoy relaxing over an Earl Grey tea and a café mocha--the best mocha, in my opinion, in this whole region--and a couple of conchas. Occasionally, we treat ourselves to one of the other fancier items: a slice of their delicious chocolate mousse cake, or their Tres Leches or a muffin. And when the super-friendly owners and staff are free enough, we enjoy talking with them about family or news or puppies (they set out a water bowl for your pup).
