I must have reviewed icing on the cake before because I wouldn't go anywhere else for a special occasion cake and I recently attended a party and the cake wasn't nearly as good as what you get here. I have been getting cake here for 4 decades and my son ordered his wedding cake from There as well. When I called to order my husbands bday cake a few weeks ago, one of the people who work there was so accommodating and spent time with me going over the design I wanted for it. I got married this past Sunday & my wedding cake was made by The Icing on the cake and to say it was delicious and a hit is an understatement. The issue I have with many bakeries are that their cakes are too sweet, especially the frosting. The sugar overpower the flavors and you can't even eat a whole slice or the cake is dry. That is NOT an issue with this bakery. It was moist and even the guests with the most sensitivity to sugar had 2 slices. The flavors were also AMAZING. Especially strawberry, orange, and raspberry. (Each tier had a different flavor filling which was the best advice from Paula and decision). In my culture the wedding cake is central to the reception, even more so than the food. The Icing on the Cake did not disappoint me or my guests. The quality of their cakes are so good, I took the wedding topper home and shared with co-workers, it is now 3 days after my wedding and the cake is still as good as it was on my wedding day. We had our cake tasting here a few weeks ago and were very hopeful when we first walked in. Based on reviews I read on here, I was expecting a reasonably priced quote and a good tasting experience. We met with the owner, who showed us into a small room right off the front room. She started going over the different options with us and then gave us a book to look through as she grabbed the different pieces we wanted to taste. Someone brought us another book to view their cupcake cakes - which we were not impressed with. There were only about 4 photos and none where what we had in mind. We found a few pictures of regular wedding cakes we liked and were very excited about the tasting. While the buttercream frosting was tasty, we were not impressed with the cakes themselves. We felt they tasted like regular supermarket sheet cake (maybe that's what all wedding cakes taste like?) and for the price she quoted us - WAY out of our budget - we thought that was absurd. Mid-way through our meeting, her assistant came in and announced that she had a customer whose cake fell apart when she cut it. The owner excused herself and went to talk to the customer - in the front room, leaving the door open so we heard the entire conversation. When she came back, she joked that she told her assistant to never say that in front of another potential client. I wanted to say "then you should have shut the door when you spoke to her." That's not the reason we didn't get our cake here, but it certainly didn't help! Maybe we are expecting too much in terms of taste, but in my mind - wedding cake should not taste like sheet cake. She also quoted us an extremely high price. read more

The cake design was a little different from what we'd drawn up months earlier, but still very cute. Ordered a bumblebee themed birthday cake for my husband over the phone with the Golden Amaretto flavor a week ago, thinking that I could leave the creative design part to them with all those five stars reviews but I couldn't be more wrong!! Design - black dotted lines with bumble bee sugar decoration on white frosting... so plain and boring that I didn't even have the urge the take a photo of it. The cake look so simple that I swear even my 12-year old niece could've put it together! Flavor - ordered the Golden Amaretto, which supposed to be "Gold cake laced with Amaretto liqueur and layered with Amaretto buttercream" ... yet we are pretty sure we just got a "Gold Cake" aka a plain vanilla flavored sponge cake. We couldn't taste a drop of the Amaretto at all! Pick-up - when the cake was taken out of the fridge, the black wordings on the cake (plus some of the dotted lines) were already melting away!! It looked so horrible and even though the assistant offered to clean it up; she wasn't able to in the end and had to put up a white sugar plate instead. She blamed it on the coldness of the fridge (???) but we saw none others were like ours. How could "an experienced" cake marker make such novice mistake? So they never use black on white frosting before and left it in a cold fridge?? Conclusion: from start to finish I feel like they didn't pay much attention to this order at all. Evidently no love or care was put into it. Not worth the $60 as I could've gotten a fancier and tastier cake from Whole Foods!! read more

At the last minute we asked her to make the cake have a sculpted igloo on top, and she and her staff complied and made a really cute cake sculpture to put on top of the cake. She let us pick up the cake ourselves, which meant we saved on delivery, and she promises to bake couples another cake on their anniversary if they bring her a professional photo of the cake she made. OK, so my review is rather late............When we were planning our wedding, we initially went to Konditor because they were the 'default' baker at our venue. We were underwhelmed with the dry cake/overly sweet fillings. I went to "The Icing" to look in to a specific cake for hubby for the rehearsal dinner. Ordered a 3D princess carriage cake for my daughter's birthday and loved it. We went in the store less than a week before her birthday and they were able to make the cake on time. We ordered the white cake with starwberry fillings and everything was very fresh and not overly sweet. The vake was also bigger than I expected. 3/4 - I agree with the other reviews about how awesome Paula is -- she walks you through everything. I brought a bunch of pictures from magazines that I liked and she ended up sketching out a couple cakes that tied together everything I liked. She stepped through exactly what the costs were and why they were that, completely reasonable. When we told her that we were thinking of a small cake for just the party and do a dessert buffet, she said that was a great option. She is unusual in that she'll doesn't have a minimum size cake. She told us how we could scale down and still keep the look we liked and how if we still wanted cake for the rest of the guests we could just have a sheet cake in the back. She was completely professional and helpful every step of the way. Absolutely loved her and she was by far the best person we talked to in our cake search. Update 9/12 - Our wedding was a success.
