I recently came here to order a birthday cake for my birthday and discovered that the elderly lady retired and a new gentleman took over about 4-5 months ago. There were some new items on top of the delicious muffin options, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies. The feta pie looks divine and is a very generous portion. They make a good cup of coffee as well and I ADORE their breakfast sandwiches. Together, they are the perfect match. That being said, I also enjoyed the strawberry shortcake that was baked the morning of my pick up. The cake held up nicely during my drive on the highway to bring this to my friend's house 15 minutes away to celebrate and the cake tasted fresh of course! The price is extremely reasonable for the amount that you are getting, so I highly recommend this place when you want to pick up something special from the bakery. This is a small bakery, but there are two round tables by the window, so you can grab a quick bite and a coffee to people/car watch while you enjoy your lovingly baked goodies. read more

My family and I have been coming to Country Desserts for as long as I can remember. Their Chocolate Chip Muffins are the best Chocolate Chip Muffins I've probably ever had in my entire life. Nothing I've personally baked or bought elsewhere has ever compared. Their Chocolate Chip Cookies and Vanilla Cookies are incredible and delicious. They're soft and chewy with the perfect amount of sweetness. I've tried one of their cupcakes and it was pretty great as well. I've unfortunately never had a good amount of some of their other treats, but I do love them enough where I plan on having them make my wedding cake along with cookies for an extra fun treat! And for a fun old memory, I remember when I was probably no more than 10 years old, the owner gave me a cutout sugar cookie for being polite and just being there with my Mom. I'm a baker myself and wish I could make some of the things they make as delicious (i.e. their muffins)! Highly recommend! Always! read more

This is my second time ordering a custom cake from Country Desserts, and it has been delicious both times. It was a lemon cake with whipped cream, and everyone at the party commented on how good it was, even my picky 7-year old son. I just wish the website listed options for custom cakes to make it easier to choose something, rather than having to get all the information over the phone. For a 12-inch cake the cost was $70, and they didn't need too much lead time. read more

I purchased cupcakes this past weekend. I had called the day before & put in order. I also got 2 blueberry scones. Everything was great! Freshly made & the cupcakes were chocolatey but not too sweet. The owner (I assume) took my order over the phone & I paid over the phone. When I picked up the next morning they happily brought it out for me. I've visited this bakery three times since moving to the area a month ago and haven't been disappointed by a single thing we've gotten. The cupcakes are moist, the lemon bars have zing, the brownies are extremely rich and chocolatey, the muffins are fluffy and flavorful, and the carrot cake is perfect. Should be named Curt Desserts. During our initial visit the owner was very unfriendly. She answered questions about the products in a curt manner. We purchased the raspberry tarts and found them to be very good. We returned for a second visit about 2 years later and were greeted by a different employee who was very friendly and answered all questions, but she had very long painted nails. For sanitary reasons anyone working in the food services industry should not have very long painted nails. As for the products, we were told that the cupcakes were made that day. However, they did not seem to be too fresh and we've had better frosting. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this bakery. read more

So sad that I missed out on years of incredibly delicious pies, muffins, quiches, etc. While I enjoy frosting and filling, I am all about the crust. Stopped in earlier this week while nearby on business. I got a lemon bar, a berry filled cookie, and a mini rasberry filled turnover. Everything was really good. Flaky, buttery, and filled with flavorful berry fillings I was a little put off at first by standing there for 5 minutes with no one around. I did not see a hanging bell off to the side to ring for someone since they are usually on the counter. I guess only person is there sometimes and they have to prepare food in the back as well, fyi. read more

I was glad to have found this place through Yelp when looking for local custom cake bakeries. It's a small family-owned place run by two lovely women. I brought in pictures of what I wanted (kid's space themed birthday cake -- see picture in "photo section"), discussed cake/filling/frosting options, and specified the look of the decorations (fondant, not icing) with one of the women. She did an awesome job, the cake tasted great (chocolate cake, not too sweet, with dark chocolate ganache filling, buttercream frosting), and the price was extremely reasonable! Not so near me, so I don't get to Country Deserts, as often as I would like. But this is a family business, and they are very serious about quality. Most of their offerings seem to be 'Made to Order' and in my opinion very well worth it. Their prices, while not inexpensive, are not as high as some of the other higher end pastry shops... and the owner is more than capable of matching them item for item. This is a small, largely a one woman show, with occasional counter help. be prepared to wait a day or two for your order, but they are very accommodating of special requests . 5*'s for C.Ds is an easy call & Ive been a customer for over a decade. N.B. As this is a tiny shop, there will NOT be a huge amount of pre- baked items waiting when you walk in. I have been disappointed to walk in late some afternoons to find some of the cupboards bare, so plan in advance and you will be rewarded.although their cinnamon (ruggelah?) & small fruit turnovers have some of the best home made, buttery pastry crusts I've tasted. My wife casually went there a while back, on a whim to get a snack and had a sub-par customer service experience there where she told me that the women behind the counter were a bit brash and rude. She brought back a couple of pastries which weren't all that great but I still decided to check it out... eventually. That time came a few weeks ago where I was driving by the place and hungry. I parked in one of the two spots right in front and walked in. Upon entering I found myself in a tiny store with a couple chairs and a table. In front of me was a pastry counter which was 1/3 full and only really featured a couple of brownies, some cookies and a few muffins. I almost wanted to walk out but figured that I'd just get a muffin, pay and walk out. The woman never cracked a smile and barely mumbled an answer back at me after I asked how she was doing. I took my muffin, paid (cash only by the way) and drove the mile or so back home before digging in. The muffin I had was flavorless and dry. Must like what my wife had brought back from her visits when she purchased those brownies. I'm not sure what they're trying to do there but if baking sub-par, dry and flavorless baked goods is their goal, then they're excelling! All in all, Country Desserts is a conveniently located, mediocre bakery with terrible customer service. No thanks. read more

I dont' know what it is with most Mass business owners, it's like they dont' care about customer service at all. I drove by this place and decided to stop in and see what they had. Me and two old ladies were completely ignored by the person working behind the counter (I'm guessing by the age of the person that it was the owner). The two older ladies in front of me decided to leave as they were not getting any help. The bakery mostly stocks pies, so if you want pies than this might be a good place to stop. I finally got the person's attention and ordered a carrot cake muffin/cupcake, which was haphazardly tossed into a paper bag. Now, as a self proclaimed cupcake conneisur, one who eats and reviews a LOT of cupcakes, the thing I hate most is when my cupcake is tossed into a bag. You lose half of the frosting (the best part) and the cake gets all squished. It's just not pleasant to fish it out of the bag and try to eat what's left of the mess. Overall, service is crappy, the cake was actually really delicious and the frosting was incredible. This place really needs to amp up the customer service if they want to be more successful. It's a shame that a yummy dessert is ruined by bad customer service. I certainly would not go out of my way to come here for a dessert, esepcially since they have such a low selection. read more

Why do people bother to purchase pre-packaged baked goods in grocery stores when there are places like the Country Bakeshop? Located in a little store near the corner of River and Lexington Streets a short distance from the Waltham line, this is a tasty gem of a store that serves muffins, cakes and pastries that are the next best thing to your grandmother's. Muffins are a specialty here. They've figured out how to make a really good coffee cake variety that actually gets the brown sugar to collect at the base of the muffin - just like in a real coffee cake. No other bakery I've visited in the Boston area has been able to pull that off. The raspberry almond muffins are great anytime but especially tasty with coffee on a crisp fall morning. Lemon squares are unusually inexpensive at $1.75 and oozing with filling. Mmm. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available too but the real attractions are the desserts and muffins. They've been around since 1994 and let's hope they're around for a long time to come. read more

im being nice giving them 2 stars first, lets talk about customer service, lacking, seriously. mer went in there three weeks ago, owner no where in sight, after waiting around for a few minutes the person came out and barked at her wanting to know what she wanted, uh, just to buy some of your (hyperly inflated costed)jankie baked goods. second, the cupcake she bought was big, flavorless and weak. chocolate with white icing. tasted like lard, thanks, but no thanks. i mean a carb has got to suk it pretty bad for me not to finish it, and thats what happened. third, i was in there a bit ago, hi, do you sell any bread, uh no, were a bakery, duh.....riiiiiighttttt, so is life i went to Dominic's for a roll and i was happier. now dont get me wrong, cops go there first thing in the morning and as the saying goes, eat where the cops do, but i can do better and so can you. read more

I went in this weekend and bought (literally) one of everything (GREAT prices)! I'd heard marvelous reviews about the lemon squares - but I found them a little crumbly for my taste (I prefer a solid shortcake base with at least a half-an-inch of tart lemon custard). The turnovers were quite good; plenty of filling, evenly distributed. The blueberry shortbread was suitable, but lacking any "wow factor." Small caramel rolls were sweet, but dry. Lemon cookies were deliciously sweet! Perfect amount of frosting (careful, they melt in the humidity!). The reason for three stars out of five: a serious lack of "country charm" in this "country bake shop." The women working there were unmoved by my excitement ("...are you READY yet???" ...really?). She touched one of the bunt cakes with an un-gloved hand (a no-no in my bakery book of conduct). Overall, a good place for an occasional quiet coffee and a turnover, but I'll be looking elsewhere for my weekly yum-yum's. read more

Make tracks to this place if you enjoy lemon squares! I was there to get some of their supremely fresh cookies and saw one lonely lemon square in the case. So I figured I'd take it home since I'm a huge lemon square fan. (Nerd alert :) This one did not disappoint. The crust was buttery and there were tasty lemon curds sprinkled throughout. She was sweeping the floor and completely ignored us while we stood at the counter waiting for someone to help us. She didn't greet us, she didn't say anything to us at all.! Is it too much to ask that someone say, Hello, I will be right with you" Or... 'Hi guys, How are you doing".......It pisses me off that a bakery like this can't employ someone with a personality...oh yeah, now I remember, the owner has no personality herself, so she wouldn't even notice. The pastries are delicious. How do they get that glaze, sugar coating on everything?? So good! But (you knew this was coming, didn't you?) the service is sub-par. I was getting a box of goodies for my co-workers (and me!) and there were these awesome looking lemon bars and blueberry bars. They were each about the size of my face, and since there were only 6 bars and I was bringing the goodies to about a dozen people, I asked if they could be cut in half. The girl looked at me and was like "cant you do that yourself?" Well yes, I could. I suppose. awkward silence. well, I keep going back because of the cookies, and the cakes, and the muffins, and the little raspberry triangles.....just not the service. read more
