During the entire first half of the dining experience, the waitress was brusk or even sullen. Little to no attempts to interact with us until it was time to pay the bill. I would give the overall service of the place a 1-star. I ordered the combination burrito. It had basically everything on it. It filled me up and why not exactly tasty, it was as standard a fare as I could hope for in this remote spot. Standard Tex-Mex and warm. Rates right in the middle if all you aspire to is "sustenance." There's not a lot of options in Ft. Davis but I think I'll explore a lot of others around before I reattempt this. It's worth spinning the wheel of chance rather than return to a very sub-par service experience.

I've visited the winery twice now and both it and the Too Hot for TABC food truck are a permanent stop on the itinerary I plan to Marfa. The food they're serving up over there is legit some of the best I've ever had from a food truck and I'm still thinking about the amazing sandwich I had the last time I was there. It was a daily special but it needs to be a full time item. Hopefully if you're lucky they'll have it for you - prosciutto, brie, and some amazing jams. If you're not lucky, however, the award winning burger is always a delicious choice and the charcuterie board perfectly compliments an afternoon of drinking wine. That's a rarity these days, and I'm sure the IRS and local school district are getting all that's due to them. (Not really.) They're gooey, and the red sauce is wonderful. The hard corn tacos are fine ... nothing special. Same thing with the rice and beans. -- Mexican rice in these parts has been wet at every restaurant. I'm used to dry Mexican rice. (And I was taught by a Mexican abuela how to make proper Mexican rice.) But I digress. Chips here are marginal. Hopefully, they come in on a truck, because they hardly taste like they are fried in the kitchen. The salsa, while served cold (which is proper) is a little too chunky for my taste, although it has a nice bite to it. The locals eat here. Good for them, because this place is decent. But also bad for them, because restaurants like this one should breed some decent competition ... even in a tiny town such as Alpine. Also, bad for them because this place only accepts cash, which most people don't carry these days. (Yes, we had cash, but the six ladies at the adjacent table didn't.)
