Came here the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend and had such a great lunch experience. We didn't have a reservation, but were able to get seated immediately. We sat outside in the courtyard and the ambiance was absolutely perfect with the water fountains, greenery, and live music! Aside from the amazing ambiance, the service was also great. Very friendly and attentive! The weather changed a bit while we were out there, with umbrellas being offered to move when we arrived, and heaters offered to be added as we dined. To eat I got the Sand dabs and my mom the Crab cake. We both liked our meals and would order them again! I did have my eye on a few other things on the menu though, so I would probably try something else next time for a little variety. read more

A few highs a couple lows. My husband and I came here for a birthday dinner and told the host when we checked in. We were seated outside in a lovely courtyard next to a fountain pool. The ambiance was so nice minus the extremely loud family sitting next to us but that's not the restaurants fault... We ordered the crab cake as an appetizer and it was phenomenal! I would come here again just for the crab cake. I ordered the filet mignon and broccolini with a Demi glaze sauce- both of which were delicious and well cooked. My husband ordered rack of lamb with chimichurri, Mac and cheese and potatoes au gratin all of which were VERY tasty. The only things that wasn't good were the fries we ordered as a side. They were described as garlic Parmesan fries but there was no garlic or Parmesan on them at all. Actually completely unseasoned and tasted like any old beer battered fries you could get at a bar. We also saw a woman who got a dessert and birthday song- we did not. They didn't notice until after we left and the host ran up the street after us and apologized for forgetting our birthdays and gave us a mini bottle of wine which was a nice gesture. First time at Anton & Michel, and I enjoyed everything about this place. The outside is pretty both day and night! For our appetizers, we had steak tartare, which was very good and had plenty of meat on it. We also had the octopus, which was well seasoned and good, but I will say the lentils were not my favorite. It would be better with some potatoes or just a lesser serving of the lentils. For our entrée, I got the seafood Fricassée. It was so flavorful, and everything about it was so good. It was a bit salty (so ask for light salt), but overall, really good. I would recommend it if you love seafood! My boyfriend got the ribeye with Mac & Cheese and Potatoes au Gratin. He rates it a seven out of ten: "It was good flavor but undercooked." Lastly, we had some coconut bread pudding for dessert, and let me say, it was warm, the perfect texture for bread pudding, and delicious. I definitely recommend checking this restaurant out! Food was honestly mid. I put in the reservation that it was my birthday and they didn't even see it. When I told our server though she blessed us with a yummy cake which was the best thing here aside from the complimentary bread. Food took ages to come out, I went through 2 rolls of the that bread just waiting, they took that long and weren't crazy busy, was there for 2 hours and only ordered 2 things, and the food made me really sick after. Really was the only spot with availability in Carmel, this was probably why. Ambiance was nice I will say, especially the outdoor seating area. read more

We loved dining here, it was so peaceful, great for our date for our mini moon. The lamb chops and scallops really blew us away. Both are so tender and well seasoned. We came to celebrate a special occasion -- the host knew this -- and were seated in the noisiest, most chaotic spot in the restaurant. It set the tone for the entire evening. Service was inexcusably poor. No salad plates, no water refills, no attention whatsoever -- despite a small army of servers standing around chatting with each other. my partner & i came here to celebrate our anniversary and they truly were such amazing staff! we were seated on time as per our reservation. the food was amazing! starting with bread & scallops for appetizers- loved the warm fresh bread and scallops were full of flavor. they tasted fresh, no excessive fishy/seafood taste that you get when something has been out for too long. i asked for my duck to be medium-rare & it came out perfectly. i always worry that duck comes out too dry but i loved the way this plate turned out. presentation was also colorful. the mix of the sweet puree and grapefruits also served as a nice palette reset in between bites of duck. the dish came together very well & i wouldn't hesitate to get it again. the lasagna also had a great overall flavor. the only thing i might note is that it's a bit of a heavier dish, and not much on the plate to cut (in terms of visuals & taste) so it gets a bit dense once you're about halfway through the meal. and since we had told them we were celebrating, they brought out a complimentary slice of cake for dessert which paired very well with the light fluffiness of whipped mousse (?) on the side. our servers were so kind and even went outdoors to take a picture for us, getting different backgrounds & angles. we definitely felt welcomed here and would come again when we're back in carmel! read more

We had dinner here last night and love the little courtyard ambience. Our server was on top of his game and everyone enjoyed their dinners. We started with the French Onion Soup that was of the best I've had! Lots of cheese topped a savory broth and made the perfect start to our main courses. We had the 20 Layer Lasagna with oxtail bolognase, spinach pasta, and San Marzano tomato sauce plus seventeen more things!!! My wife and I visited Anton & Michel Restaurant for our anniversary weekend and decided to try it based on strong reviews. We had a reservation, but the dining room was not too busy, so we arrived early and were seated right away. The overall aesthetic leans toward a classic, older style that could benefit from a slight refresh, but it still feels comfortable and welcoming. Service was solid throughout the evening. The wine list was impressive, and we chose a 2018 Chateau Montelena which is always a reliable choice. We also decided to follow the server's recommendation for our meals. My wife ordered the Grilled Bone In Pork Chop priced at 41 which came with braised red cabbage, warm potato salad, and a smoked apple demi glace. She enjoyed it and found it flavorful, though not exceptional. I ordered the Seafood Fricassée priced at 46 which included shrimp, scallops, smoked salmon ravioli, and an asparagus mushroom cream sauce with chipotle pesto. The sauce was the star of the dish, rich and well balanced. With a few adjustments such as swapping the salmon for lobster in the ravioli and removing the asparagus, this dish could truly be outstanding. Make sure to ask for bread so you can enjoy the sauce properly. For dessert, we shared the Caramel and Sea Salt Crème Brulée priced at 13. It had a satisfying crack on top and a well executed flavor. I also learned it is a favorite local spot for many which is always good to know. We may or may not return, but that is simply because we love exploring new places. One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. This past weekend marked the 5th anniversary of my marriage to my wife. In hopes of doing something special, we traveled to Carmel for a weekend. Ahead of travelling, I searched for dining options to make our Saturday night special. Anton & Michel consistently came highly recommended. I was looking for a 3 or 4 dollar sign ($) restaurant, was located in Carmel, had outdoor seating and made food that my wife and I would enjoy. Anton & Michel check marked all of my constraints. I booked a reservation on Open Table, which I highly recommend you do. Not only can you reserve a spot, they specifically ask you if you'd prefer indoor or outdoor seating. Additionally, they ask what, if any, the occasion is. As someone who likes to plan everything down to the last detail, I can't tell you how happy this made me. I didn't have to sweat or let anxiety get the best of me. I knew we would get outdoor seating, guaranteed (we enjoy eating outdoors). They were also the *only* restaurant to inquire about the occasion. That's a very nice touch and made me feel like they truly care about my visit. The food was, how can I put this, amazing. Literally perfect across the board. From the complimentary bread to the appetizers and entrées, we were thoroughly impressed. The ingredients were fresh and the food cooked to perfection. Anton & Michel may be on the pricier side, but it is well deserved. Your taste buds will thank you. The service matched the food- excellent. From the moment we walked in (early), our host was friendly and accommodating. He seated us a few minutes early, outside, just like I wanted. A heat lamp was quickly turned on upon my request as it was starting to get chilly. Our waitress, Sarah (I hope I spelled that right), was top notch. She was friendly, attentive, gracious, welcoming and helpful. She was able to answer our questions quickly and make good suggestions. She is a true professional and reminds me there are still good service individuals in the world. She took a few photos for us, wished us a happy anniversary and even hooked it up on a sweet treat. She was very pleasant to work with and is a good human being. The ambiance was magical. There is ample seating, but the tables are far enough so that you can maintain private conversations. I despise restaurant's that try to squeeze as many tables & chairs possible causing you to be 2 feet away from other patrons. Not here; you'll be able to enjoy your party without the noise from others. The lighting was perfect. We were able to adequetly see but not have an overly bright light dangling over us. The music was just right- a mix of piano and jazz that wasn't too loud and at the perfect volume level. Overall, it was the perfect night. My wife is hard to please (ask me how I know) and she was impressed by the restaurant, the food and the service. Anton And Michel is one of my very favorite restaurants in Carmel, in fact I eat here quite often. Needless to say the food is absolutely delicious but what I really want to talk about is the Service. Chris who is the maitre d is an absolute jewel, from the moment he greets you at the front of the restaurant he treats you as if you were a good friend that he is invited to his home for dinner. I also would like to send big kudos to our waiter, Urbana who from the moment we sat down at our table he paid attention to every detail of our meal from beginning to end. Absolutely stellar restaurant just near the heart of downtown! Husband and I booked dinner here to celebrate our wedding anniversary because they had gluten-free offerings that we were interested in, and we had a spectacular time. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with excellent service, a charming atmosphere and lovely relaxing music played throughout the restaurant. They have a gorgeous patio area, but since there was a chill coming on, we opted to sit indoors. Every staff member was extremely kind, friendly and congratulated us on our anniversary. They don't overbook the restaurant so your service is very personal and prompt. That's also why they have limited bookings every night. I had the oxtail lasagna, which was the best lasagna I've ever had in my entire life. The oxtail was tender and meaty, and the pasta type they used for the lasagna was absolutely delicious, also sewn together with the best cheese you could imagine. My husband had the roast chicken and loved it as well. At the end of dinner, they surprised us with a cute little anniversary dessert, which just made us feel so special and really put a cherry on top of the whole evening. also, though we didn't order any special desserts, watching them make cherry jubilee, and bananas foster at the tables next to ours was an exciting thing to see. This is a great restaurant for a special night out. We were visiting Carmel and wanted to make our dinner special. The staff was very friendly. My daughter wanted a fun mocktail with a mango base. The bartender made her a great drink. For main meals we got the rack of lamb, salmon, and filet. The dishes were large so we got three dishes to share among the four of us. It was the right amount of food. All the dishes were really good. The salmon came with super crispy skin, the double chops of lamb were hearty and the steak was plentiful. Everything was well seasoned too. We topped dinner off with a crème brûlée and chocolate cake. My favorite was the crème brûlée. Yum! read more

The service was some of the best we have ever had and made the dinner over the top great. The food was great-the service was great and i think it is a good value (Carmel is never cheap) and will continue to go here as one of our top 3 favorite spots in Carmel By The Sea. My wife and I went for a late lunch yesterday. We love sitting on the beautiful patio by the fountain. Terry was our server. She told us she had been there for 20 years. That says a lot about a restaurant. My wife ordered the crabcake and I had the lamb Pappardelle. We started with the lobster bisque as they were out of the little neck clams which we were hoping for. The lobster bisque had a very deep lobster flavor. It might've been a tad salty, but it was quite delicious. My wife enjoyed her crab cake and I enjoyed my lamb dish. Terry warned me that the lamb dish was quite rich and she was spot on as I could not finish it. We finished our meal with a wonderful sea salt, caramel crème brûlée and coffee. Located in Carmel-by-the Sea at the Court of the Fountains, this beautiful restaurant was just a short walk from the hotel my other half and I stayed at for the weekend. Indoor and outdoor seating was available. We sat inside where the ambiance was dim, social and relaxed. The menu was boasted creative California cuisine options and an extensive wine list. It more than suited our needs (vegetarian and a pescatarian) and we ordered accordingly. Timing of plates and portion size were perfect. Food plating was beautiful. Taste was flavorful and filling. We showed up hungry to Anton after having a big failed experience at a different restaurant in Carmel. Z, the owner, got us a table and sat us right away. Our mood quickly changed and we felt happy and well taken care of. The food was DELICIOUS and our server/busser were THE BEST. We had the scallop appetizer and milet mignon. Two words: dog friendly -- which is what makes this upscale French inspired haven even better.. and the food quality held its own quite well too. The ambiance is beautiful. Snag an outdoor table 'pool' side if you can. Your puppers will likely try diving into the water so hold them tight! The ahi tuna sando was very generous on the tuna and the lamb sliders were petite but packed a punch. I'd imagine the rest of the menu is also generous and delish. Went for our anniversary dinner on a Saturday night. Very busy when we arrived but since we had a reservation, we were seated promptly. We chose to sit outside because it was very loud inside and tables are very close together. We were not asked what the occasion was which would have been appreciated. Service was ok but felt like it was really based upon if you looked rich, white, and old. Both my boyfriend and I agreed it seemed like we were being overlooked because we looked younger and were Asian. When our server collected the signed check, we saw him immediately look to see if we had tipped. For a restaurant that prides itself on atmosphere and service, I would hope the servers would have more etiquette than that. As someone who's worked in food service before, it's the little things like that which stay in one's mind after. Food was good, the drinks were okay. My boyfriend got the mango margarita which was good but my peach Bellini could've been better. We got the filet mignon and baked chicken. Chicken portion size was huge. Both meats were cooked very well. TLDR: Maybe worth a visit for the food and pretty patio in the back but nothing to write home about. If you look younger, beware of worse service because you don't fit their "target demographic". read more

Me and my husband drove up from 3 hours away and I'm so glad we chose this restaurant, first of all to start service was absolutely amazing from the man who sat us was very polite/funny and chose a perfect wine for my husband just based on my husbands coffee preference which was awesome! The food was amazing you have too try this amazing hamachi appetizer I would seriously drive the 3 hours just for it again! I went to Anton & Michel with my family for Christmas dinner and had a really bizarre experience. My 79 year-old mother ordered a rare steak and the reaction by the staff was bizarre. First our waiter pretended to mishear her as "medium rare" twice - I.e., she asked for her steak done rare, and the waiter responded, "OK, medium rare!" So she corrected him and said, no, rare, and she corrected him again, "Right, medium rare!" So she told him a third time, and he finally seemed to take the point. When she received her steak, it was not rare - it was medium rare. Before asking wait staff over, she cut fully through the steak and showed it to the rest of our table and asked us if we thought she should send it back. We all confirmed it was not done rare, and she should send it back. So we hailed down the wait staff, and they took her steak away. Then a woman came out - I don't know if she was the manager or if she had some other role, but she spent a good 5 solid minutes trying to bully my mother out of re-ordering her steak done correctly. First, she said, "So you want it black and blue? Because I looked at it, and your steak is rare." Everyone at our table told her that we all agreed it was not rare. So the woman responded to us, "OK, well, I'll bring it back to you and you can take another look at it and we can take it from there." You can take another look and we can take it from there??? WTF??? Anyway, so then she brought the steak back, which was a bizarre thing to do to begin with, and she had my 79 year-old mother then point out to her that there was no pink inside the steak whatsoever, and it was not done rare, and that she wanted her steak done rare. At this point, other tables were turning to watch. So then the woman responded, "Oh, we thought you said medium rare. You wanted rare. We'll make it rare." WTF AGAIN? No, you initially told my mother "so you wanted it black and blue?" in order to bully her into accepting the steak as prepared, and only when she pointed out to you that it was clearly not rare did you take it back and make it as she requested. I was really frustrate at this service because it was clearly to me that the staff was just pumping out medium rare steaks and, when someone asked for something different, they weren't actually taking that instruction. They were just preparing another medium rare steak and then trying to bully the customer into accepting it, even if it wasn't what they wanted. It's one thing to accidentally prepare the steak incorrectly, or to forget that a customer ordered it a certain way. That's just carelessness and everyone does it - particularly on a busy holiday like Christmas Day dinner. But what really bothered me was that the staff at Anton & Michel repeatedly tried to bully my elderly mother into accepting her medium rare steak when that was not what she had ordered. The staff clearly knew both that was not what she had ordered and also that that was not what they were serving her, but they persisted. It was was only when other tables began to notice that they took the steak back and re-made it. I think Anton & Michel should remember that it's not possible to just coast on reputation and location alone, and at a certain point you need to actually provide the level of service you are charging your customers for, or else they'll get frustrated and find another quaint French spot in Carmel. We were given bread with the super cute soft balls of butter on the side that was easy to spread. The food was delivered with good timing in between and the quality was amazing.
