Stopped for lunch today, trying to figure out which restaurant to choose... and look what we found. Antonio & Antonio in Naples -- and we even had the chance to meet the owner, Sylvio himself. He brought out a dish I'll be talking about for a long time: Candele Spezzate alla Genovese, made with the famous cipolla ramata di Montoro. Incredible. Delicious. Amazing. I could go on and on. Quintessential tourist trap. Great location, mediocre service, and the food is just fine. It's very touristy and that explains everything. I was surprised by the aggressive nature of their tipping solicitation. I asked and looked up common tipping practices before we came. I always want to be a good tourist. Our server dropped the check and immediately proclaimed that doesn't include tip, even though there was a service fee. You don't write the tip in either. You have to tell the waiter. I was really caught off guard. The bill was 75 euro, so I said 15 euro. Thats 20% of the entire bill including taxes and other charges. Thats how I tip back home. He said, "19 euros." Lol! So, not only do you tip on top of a tip, they demand more. I accommodated because 4 euros won't kill me, it's not worth the hassle, and I'm not going to let it affect my families enjoyment of this beautiful place. Kind of a gross situation though. read more

We started our evening looking over the water with an aperol and limoncello spritz - this was my favorite aperol spritz of the city. Great view was ruined by the horrible service. They didn't greet us and seemed like they didn't want our business when we asked if they were open. It was just before dinner time and there was only one or two tables out of probably one hundred filled. After a very awkward exchange they said we could order food so we sat down. We should have left. After feeling unwanted the entire time, the waiter came with the bill and told us "the tip is not included" when there was already a 2.5€ service fee and asked how much I would like to tip. Tipping in Italy is not customary but I felt like I had to. Even though I gave him a tip, he stormed off when to him it wasn't enough. The whole thing was very off putting and ruined our evening. The paccheri with lobster wasn't anything spectacular so definitely not worth it. read more

Waiters were not patient when taking orders when we asked a few questions on how the whole fish was prepared, since the menu was not very clear. The food was decent. But not a place where I would return a 2nd time. The bread in the bag was notable hard and stale. To add insult to our meal, the waitstaff actually demanded we add a TIP to the bill. Normally, this is not a problem in the United States because it is customary to add a tip to the bill. However, in Italy a tip is not required especially if a service charge is included in the final calculations. And a tip should not be demanded if your service was lackluster. read more

The Cesar tasted like mayonnaise and it was not tasty, save your money on this salad. The staff friendly but the place is busy so the 5-7 minute pizza took 45 minutes. The pizza was very bland. The pasta carbonara was swimming in sauce not your authentic dish. The staff was somewhat inattentive due to amount of tables. I was also wanting to try out Lacryma Christi but they kept trying to bring me something else, even after I showed them the spelling and a photo on my phone. Came here a few years back and had a great Spaghetti with vongole, but when we came here last week the experience did not satisfy us. We had a reservation for 9pm and our table was nowhere near ready. We were very understanding because the restaurant was packed so we waited and waited. One thing to note is how confusing this restaurant "chain" is. They split the one Antonio & Antonio into 3 different restaurants with the different menus, even though you can order from any of them. As fifteen minutes passed, I went over to the host of the different Antonio & Antonio restaurant and he was able to get our large party seated within another 15 minutes. So in total, we couldn't get seated with our reservation for about 30 minutes. It was so hot out and all we wanted was some water. It took so long for it to come which only contributed to our lack of patience. We ordered a couple appetizers and for main I ordered gnocchi a la sorrentina - one of my favorite pasta dishes. Unfortunately, I did not love this gnocchi because I found the sauce to be way too sweet. However, this was just my taste and someone else may enjoy. The appetizers were definitely better than the main dishes, the caprese and zucchini flowers were pretty good. the only other part that was a little annoying was that two people in my party ordered pizzas for their entree and they came about 10 minutes after everyone else's came. In all, I didn't love our experience but definitely a place to go if you have nowhere else to. the view was pretty as it is right in front of the water as well. But, in my opinion there are better restaurants in Napoli. read more

This is a very popular spot but we were able to get a table pretty quickly. We sat outside and enjoyed he view and the lively atmosphere. Stick to the pizza and you will not be disappointed. Came here for based on a few recommendations. Seated quickly in the tent, which was nice and warm. We had grilled salmon and fresh pasta with seafood. Pasta had mussels and clams only and a few pieces of raw hard spaghetti noodles. Salmon was good, but it was served with cold zucchini. Service was good until it was time to pay. The waiter attempted to get us to tip 20%, and when we said no, he was a little pissed. Having been in Naples for 10 days and eaten at dozens of restaurants, I had the first encounter at a restaurant wanting to be tipped. A very big turn off. Won't go back. read more

So while staying in Naples, we asked the hotel for some nearby dinner recommendations and this place was at the top of the list. Upon arrival, we were pleased to see what a stunning location it was -- right across from the bay of Naples with a gorgeous view of the bay. Really you can't beat it. :-) Our server was very kind and I have to say, in general, the service was very friendly and attentive. However, out food was kinda hit or miss -- my friend got the salad which she thought tasted just okay but she thinks might've made her sick later that night (not entirely sure so don't want to ding them on that alone), we got the pizza which was good but nothing super special and I got the fish which although it tasted very good came complete with tons of bones (not fun). The best thing we had was the lemoncello at the end (loved it!) and the lemon cake for dessert - this was seriously the BEST lemon cake we had in Naples. They had a wonderful wine selection too. Seriously I'd skip dinner and just come here for wine, lemon cake and the sunset. ;-) read more

This restaurant is by far one of the most popular in the waterfront area of Napoli. The service is quiet impressive. While you are waiting in line the owner even comes out with some free liquor. The chicken, potato dumpling and eggplant dishes are worth trying as the sauces are delicious. The portion sizes are definitely generous so you won't leave feeling hungry. Also, it was recommended to me by locales and seemed to be more of locale hot spot than a tourist trap. read more

I was staying at a nearby hotel for one night (out of five total in Naples) and needed to find a place to eat nearby. My husband and I arrived fairly early as we had an early flight the next morning. A very nice touch! I kept wondering if it was actually free or not, and was pleasantly surprised that it was. For our meal we ordered a pizza marinara, a big salad, and, for some inexplicable reason, a side of fries. I'm used to Euro salads being a lot smaller than N American salads, but this one was huge. Definitely meal sized. My husband enjoyed the pizza, too. Prices were much more reasonable than I expected for a restaurant in a touristy area with such a great view. The service was pretty good, but when it came time for us to get the bill we had to wait for quite a while and had trouble flagging somebody down. Normally I wouldn't even mention it, but the fact that we had to get ready for the airport and get up early the next morning made us want to leave sooner. read more

I had a relaxing lunch here. The views are beautiful and the menu varied. Once seated there is a cool glass of prosecco presented - very refreshing! I ordered the marguerite since it was my last day in Napoli. It was good, but certainly not outstanding. Considering the touristy location I was not surprised. The servings were huge though and the prices fair. The restrooms were clean. But I did have to almost beg to place and order and get a check in mid-afternoon, which was a tad irritating. read more
