Definitely enjoy the rich history of this location and how much they have given back to the community. From the moment I entered the door I was greeted. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location was small and cozy. We ordered a medium pepperoni and mushrooms with Italian sausage which was very delicious and the crust was perfect baked and had a nice crispy crutch. The sauce flavor was fantastic and it was perfectly cooked. The second one was a medium Tim's pizza which is grilled chicken with Alfredo sauce with bacon. Recommended to us by our Air BnB host. So glad we took his advice. I loved the homey ambiance of this small restaurant. Looks like it can seat about 35 diners. Parking is on the street. Our party of four was seated upon arrival. We were all very pleased with our orders. Portions sizes were regular or half servings of which both were generous and flavors were on point. Though the pizza looked good, we went with different entrees - my Chicken Marsala which might have been missing the Marsala was good, but I missed the sauce treatment - it was more like a seasoned olive oil with a tender chicken breast, olives galore (yum), diced tomato, bell pepper, and shrooms. Husband declared the Sausage, Peppers & Alfredo Linguini delicious. Friend really enjoyed his Salsiccia Linguini, especially the type of sausage used. Wow, what a catastrophe. My wife says I am a hard ass when it comes to customer service. She is not wrong, and she was the one to suggest leaving after twenty minutes of no service. I did not count, but the place has maybe ten to twelve tables with two servers when we were there. We did get water, and after about ten minutes, a yound lady did bring use a few slices of bread. The bread was good if that is of any cosolation. We finally got up and walked out. Still need diner, so heading to the Holiday market for a TV dinner. read more

Alturas is one of the closest towns to Lava Beds National Monument so after a few hours spent their we headed here. When arriving we thought we were going to be able to dine in, but they still haven't opened up for that yet. However, we ordered anyway because we were so hungry. The mom and daughter that were working were nice and let us know that the food would be ready in about 25 minutes. The food was pretty good for a small town Italian restaurant. I wasn't feeling pizza at the moment so like a child, I ordered chicken tenders. Some places simply don't know how to make chicken tenders, but this is not one of those places. The tenders were huge and oh so good and who doesn't love curly fries? The rest of my family shared a large pepperoni and black olive pizza. I had a bite of it and it was really good. The owner was just rude as can be. He talked down to servers for not knowing things yet. The servers were constantly apologizing to us customers. When you hear that a restaurant is the "only place in town" on a Sunday evening one gets concerned. We were wrong and pleasantly surprised by how good the food was at Antonio's. Many customers were ordering pizza, which looked good but we went with entrees. My chicken parmigiana was outstanding and my wife really enjoyed the chicken Marsala. Traveling through town, it was our 38th wedding anniversary. We searched Google and found the highest rated restaurant. Antonio's topped the list. The place was empty to start, and the waitress brought us drinks. When the place started to fill up, the service was a little slow. We definitely felt like out of towners, which we were. From the overwhelming fluorescent lighting, to the underwhelming plastic ivy hanging on the wall, tacky is the first word that comes to mind. A very small, narrow eatery, serving Italian. The food was actually not bad. But the ambiance is terrible. Service was also lackluster. I mean people were friendly, but soooooo slow. Some locals wondered in and actually made the place more tacky with their choice of fashion (teenage girls wearing their pajamas, if you need more info). A comfortable, delicious pizza and pasta restaurant that's a welcome refuge from the uncertain surrounding alternatives. We stopped in after watching the sunset in the wildlife refuge and were treated promptly to a full course meal of garlic bread, salads with home made dressing, chicken parm, ravioli, and pizza. The sauce is excellent and there is plenty of it. There are many beers to select from including an ale named after the restaurant, brewed by Pacific Rim, AFAIK. The wines are a little rough around the edges. There is a scare hotel called The Niles nearby. That is worth checking out for a thrill. Old creepy western hotels with saloons are fun! read more

We first discovered Antonio's about 6 years ago. We're from Oregon, and spend winters down south, and stop in Alturas both on our way south, and again on our way home in spring. We are pizza-holics and our only two top places are in Mesa, AZ and Palm Springs, CA. Well, the pizza HERE tops the other two! Devine crust - chewy and flavorful! When has pizza crust ever been called flavorful? The restaurant is once again open for dine-in, and Sandy is the charming server who stole our hearts! Fresh Italian garlic bread brought to our table upon being seated. Homemade dressing on our salad. Her's a chunky and creamy blue cheese that balanced pungent and sweet. Mine a balsamic vinaigrette that had a rich rosemary raisin hit without being overly syrupy. Chicken Alfredo in a thick rich sauce with herbs and mushrooms for her, and I had Chicken Parmesan in a marinara that tasted fresh and bright with hints of fresh basil, and parsley, and a nice touch of caramelized sweetness from garlic, onion, and tomatoes. We came through on our way north and visited the restaurant upon recommendation from the locals. My food descriptions cannot fully convey just how shockingly good it was. Stayed in Alturas, CA while on a motorcycle ride. Found this place to be the only thing open on a Wednesday night that would answer the phone. Ordered delivery to my hotel and was very impressed with the delivery speed, delivery guy and most of all the pizza. Had the Medium combination and it was frankly amazing. The dough was perfect and the sauce and topping were optimal. I was quoted 45 minutes delivery time at 5:53 pm and it was delivered at 6:27 pm. Now that's freaky fast for a small town Italian joint.. There is no doubt that pickings are slim in Alturas if you're a traveler passing through or staying overnight (as we were) and looking for a place for dinner. On a previous visit we'd had a pretty decent meal at a local Thai restaurant but it was closed on this evening and so we opted for Italian at Antonio's. Our expectations weren't high as this is Alturas, but based on reviews at another web site we expected better than what was delivered. So maybe that is what our rating reflects, because while our expectations weren't high, the experience was less than expected. First the good news, because there is some, Antonio's smells good when you walk in and the server on the night we were there was very friendly and efficient. She had to work hard because she was the only server for the entire (small) restaurant and there was a steady stream of customers, mostly locals but maybe one quarter travelers like us. Maybe that is because Antonio's is one of the few dinner options in Alturas and being on Main Street pretty visible to travelers. Now for the rest that is not such good news. Pasta options were largely meat centric...meat filled ravioli (purchased not homemade said our server in response to our question), meat sauces, meat lasagna and so on. Other options seemed to center on the ubiquitous Alfredo sauce. (Although there was a clam sauce on the menu but from the looks of that option when delivered to the table next to us, you'd be hard pressed to find the clams.) If serving size is a decision point, we noted that the standard servings were huge. (Smaller serving options are on the menu too...thumbs up to them for that.) Most pastas clocked in at about $14 or so with the smaller size option about $9. We each ordered a house salad and a pizza to share. While the menu promised 'fresh mixed greens" for the salad what was delivered was 80% iceberg lettuce. On the other hand, the house vinaigrette really is good. The pizza was not good - bread dough quality crust, flavorless sauce and cheese and limited toppings. (How does one disappoint on a bell pepper and onion pizza?) We always feel bad about giving a negative review to a small restaurant in a small town, but if you're a traveler passing through Alturas, from our experience you'll have a better experience at Nipa's, Wagon Wheel Cafe or even the local Subway. One last note, we pay attention to accessibility in reviews these days (so does the NYTimes in theirs :-) ) and while we added wheelchair access "yes" to this review, that is limited. The restaurant is on one level and you can get through the door but we imagine the restrooms would not be accessible to a wheelchair user. read more

We stopped by for dinner on the way to Cedarville. Quiet, clean, and the service was very attentive and friendly. Nevermind the kitty doormats hanging about for sale, it's a cute place. Definitely a locals place, but the piano player didn't stop playing the piano when we entered. Ok, there's no piano player. Or piano. We each got house salads. They were mounded high with fresh greens and a bonus set of whole black olives. The dressings (blue cheese and house honey vinegarette ) were tasty and the salad and dressings were the proper temperatures. We got a large pepperoni with green peppers and mushrooms. Antonio's is a fixture in Alturas. This has been the best place to get pizza here (I haven't tried the pasta) for as long as I have been here. It can get a bit pricey, but it's worth it in my opinion. They also sometimes have good deals on extra large pepperoni pizzas during the summertime. Not sure if that's still a thing though.
