    Small order of onion rings

Terrific location, ample parking, fine menu, go for the onion rings. Friendly service, very attentive. Highly recommended

I've been coming to the Anvil since I can remember! It's an absolute must if you're in the area! They have the best onion rings and super comforting food! I had the chili and it was spiced just right, very smokey. Their onion rings are light and flaky, everything you'd want in an onion ring. The old wood floor and brick add to the warm ambiance of the Anvil. The staff is very friendly and helpful with suggestions if you need them. If you want a solid home cooked meal, this is the place!

Parking was in the street we managed to get close but should you have to park a little bit away there are all kinds of fun local shops to see on your way. It's is a great experience, loved the look of the place it had a full crowd and by the looks it stays busy, even though they had a crowd service was quick , professional and answered our questions. The food was great , affordable with plenty of options and I can see how they managed to stay in business since 1855.

Love the onion rings! A small order is huge!! Love the mushroom burger and the atmosphere. This is a short review cuz I was really hungry when I got here and got my food and forgot to take photos. That being said... and this is a huge statement... these are the best onion rings in the state! Easily.

Casual American bar and restaurant inside of an old building in St. Genevieve. The inside of the restaurant has a cool old school saloon vibe to it, and the servers are very friendly as well. They have a list of the foods they are known for on the front page of their menu, so I had an easy time choosing what to order. My friend and I split an onion ring appetizer and I got a cheeseburger for myself. The onion rings came in a huge portion and they were fantastic. They also had a house made dipping sauce for the rings. I think they made all of their dips in-house, as my friend asked for a BBQ sauce and he thought it was house made as well. Each table has 2 house-made sauces on them as well. The burger was not as good as the onion rings, as it was very overcooked and dry. It did have some great sauces that came on the bun however, plus the bun was toasted and it came with fresh veggies as well. Unlike the sauces here, the side of coleslaw that came with the burger seemed like it was out of a container and not homemade 7.5/10

My husband, father-in-law had a late lunch here yesterday. At 1:30 on a Wednesday it was pretty busy but the bartender found us a table up a few stairs overlooking the main dining area. Both he & the waitress were very friendly & attentive with quick service. The onion rings were light & delicious, not greasy. The batter stayed on them well. They have their own mayo, horseradish, mustard sauce for them. We all ordered fried chicken. The fried chicken is great. One of the sides available is a local tradition, beef liver dumplings served with beef gravy. My mom is from Ste. Genevieve & made those for Thanksgiving and other special occasions; I've made them, too. These were really good! So fun to get to have these again without the work! The Anvil has a wonderful historic & warm atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable.

It was nice and clean and the service was very good. The onion rings are definitely not the same as they were years ago but okay.

I am only posting this as a warning for anyone else that wants to book a party with them. I have been a supporter of The Barn since the day they opened. It was my first choice when I wanted a cocktail in town. I booked my 30th birthday party with Steve back in November. I've been chatting with him about my party every time I saw him in between that time. We messaged back and forth about the logistics and how I would get the whole upstairs room. He also didn't ask me to pay a deposit and promised that he would put me down on the calendar. Fast forward to yesterday, I went up there to start decorating at 3 pm. I started walking up the stairs and noticed that someone else's decorations were already set up for a 40th birthday party. I immediately was like, Steve that's not my party. He then says, "Oh, you're downstairs!" I immediately knew that he had no idea what was going on. I was extremely disappointed but I decided to make it work. He said he would shut the bar down at 6 for my party He helped me set up a table for our food and I told him I'd be bringing in a balloon arch with a backdrop around 6. My husband spent the whole day cooking food for our party and I spent the day making sure everything would be perfect. When we got there at 6, the whole parking lot was full. We had to park on the street and upon our arrival we saw that the entire bar downstairs was full of people and then I saw a girl wearing a sash that said "my 21st birthday." This was a completely different party from what was going on upstairs. He not only double booked us but he TRIPLE booked us. He came outside acting as if he had no idea what was going on. He said he thought this party was us. I'm like... how do you get that confused? You knew my party started at 6:30. He tried to have us move the party outside. I did not want to do that because we would have to go in and out for drinks. The woman that planned the 21st was so nice to me and even offered to combine our parties. She told me that he did the exact same thing to her, she thought she would get the upstairs as well. He also told her that she wouldn't need to pay anything at all to have her party there, but told me that I would have to pay a fee the day of. At that point, I didn't want to give them my business anymore. I was over it. Thank God we were able to move my party to Top Shooters and they were able to accommodate us. We obviously weren't able to bring any of the food that we made, but it was better than nothing. Steve at The Barn needs to hire someone else to plan parties if he is unable to plan and coordinate them himself. Unfortunately this experience was a learning lesson for me. Anytime I plan or book a party somewhere, I need to make sure there's a contract in place. I hope that everyone reads this learns from me and does not book with The Barn.

For the past 6 months life has been a nightmare - luckily I took notes when I visited many places…read moreso when things died down I would be able to just type this out and pop in the pictures. I really liked this place. This brewery has a great vibe, is HUGE, good service, yummy food, tasty beer and considering it was a cold, icky night when we went - there was more people there than I would have thought. My smash melt was so good. Messy but a good type of messy. It was also a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. The shepherds pie was really runny. A spoon was definitely the utensil of choice but the flavor was spot on. I struggled to get up the stairs because of my knees (both are new) and it appears to be the only stairs so I had to wait for some servers to go up (& vice versa) but when we got up there it was very cool. Honestly, this place is huge. I cannot stress that enough. There was a big party next to us and I watched how they were waited on...because sometimes big parties can be a challenge. It appeared that no one waited a unreasonable time to get their refills. Even a spill was taken care of by staff swiftly. That is a good sign. However, our service was just good. It took a long time to get a beer and we never got out second one we just paid and left All that being said, I will be back.

Hundreds of Hops US Hop Passport Amazing Brewery Race Stop 30 - 1/18 for Missouri…read more We stopped here as our first stop on our Missouri Brewery Race, plotted intentionally for the eats... specifically all you can eat fried chicken day... not that I could eat a whole lot of it, but I love good fried chicken and that KFC at home isn't scratching that itch. Needless to say, I ordered the fried chicken, dark meat. The hubs got a maple syrup (flavored, turns out - definitely NOT maple syrup). The table behind us ordered directly after our order was put in and also ordered all you can eat fried chicken, dark meat. When i heard, "we're sold out of that", with my order not up yet, I thought we were in for potential problems. Now, at 845pm, I'd understand that but 15min after the "special" starts, with a half empty dining room... I'm gonna have some questions. For example: Why is there no chicken available at open on fried chicken day? Anywho, the plates come out & I'd guess the potatoes were from the last special... cold & crusty, topped with the thickest, most concentrated "gravy" I've ever seen. Both were inedible. The broccoli was cooler than it should have been served at but tasted good. The real star was definitely the fried chicken. It absolutely hit the spot - unfortunately, they were indeed sold out of dark meat & i ended up with a wing... sigh - thankfully, I got 1 thigh, my true love & although it was all you can eat (only way they sell it), 1 thigh is about all I can eat. Still, I could have skipped the sides all together for a 2nd thigh... The burger was "ok", nicely cooked, but maple flavor is not at all the same as real maple syrup tho & it definitely could be improved with real maple syrup. The beer was pretty tasty. We had 3 different ones & could have pulled a 4th had the timing worked out. Overall, a so-so experience. I'm not sure why, when I ordered, that I wasn't told that there wasn't enough chicken for a dark meat order. I would have asked if there was a thigh left & likely still ordered it when they said yes, but it would have been my choice then. They did stop selling the chicken special before we cashed out.
