Beautiful grounds. Interesting club house. We were with a large group that went "winery hopping" on the Trolley. It was a good idea. Expected more wines frankly then they had. They had a pretty interesting menu (don't allow outside food) and everything we had was tasty. This is mostly a self serve operation. Including ordering food. They had runners delivering food from the kitchen. It didn't take long after order placement online with a QR code at your table to recieve it. My fiancé and I went to the winery to discuss the possibility of a small, intimate wedding reception in the pavilion. Everything was beautiful, and we were very excited, but was taken back when the person to give us a tour arrived 20 minutes past our scheduled time, with a Scooter's Coffee in hand. The water given to us had two gnats in my fiancé's cup. When discussing prices, we were very disappointed when the website said $500 for a 4 hour rental, when in fact it was $5,200, which was very unclear and not stated on the website. Although the view is beautiful, the service is not ideal. I would not recommend this place. read more

Charleville winery is beautiful. The rolling hills view invokes a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. So picturesque & perfect! Upon entering, you are given a magic bracelet that you can swipe on their "ipourit" wall. You just swipe and drink. It bills you based upon how much you pour. Aaron walked us through the process perfectly. Absolutely amazing. We then found a spot for our group outside around one of the firepits. It was the perfect day as far as weather is concerned. The sun was warm, but not too harsh. There was a feeling of freshness being out in the country. We had such a good time. OK food is on the way. Kendall did such a wonderful job with all of our orders and the food was phenomenal. This is probably the best food I've ever had at a winery. This is not a basic cheeseboard. This is coconut shrimp, fantastic pizza, & ahi tuna nachos. read more

What a great way to spend a Saturday! It was absolutely gorgeous out and I am so happy we spent it here. Charleville it's less than an hour away from stl, so it makes for a good drive. I had never been here before, and was told that it was recently redone- you can definitely tell! Everything is updated, super clean, aesthetic, and super sleek/ user friendly. Lots of parking outside. Good spots for tour buses/ party buses. We went inside to the bartender and gave them our cards for a bracelet. You might not have been living under a rock like myself, but the bracelet concept is totally new to me and SO cool. Your bracelet is attached to your card. You decide what you'd like to pour, tap your bracelet, and then you're charged on your tab. No waiting for bartenders or for long long lines. It was sooo cool. It's easy to pour an expensive drink though, so watch your ounces :) I got the dry white wine and loved it. They had several cocktails on draft, as well as tons of beer choices. We made our way out to the patio which was enveloped by 6ish fire pits. We made our way to one and surrounded it with a bunch of chairs. The fire pits were gas which was awesome, no attending needed. There were QR codes to scan for food. We literally got one of everything (we're a hungry bunch). My favorites were the steak bites and the goat cheese balls. We stopped by Charleville as part of a trip to a few places in Ste Genevieve, and I was pleasantly surprised! Years back, Charleville had opened up a brewery/tasting room near downtown St Louis, which was pretty short lived. As a beer snob, I always found most of their beers to be pretty average. The location in Ste Genevieve is absolutely beautiful. Both the aesthetic of the tasting room / event spaces, and the views offered from their patio. I very much love the self serve system they use for their beers and some of their other offerings. They'll give you a bracelet, and you just scan your bracelet above the tap of what you wish to drink and they charge you buy the ounce. I can definitely see, on longer stays this could potentially lead to a pretty big bill if one isn't careful! The service was fantastic, and the staff all super friendly. My girlfriend stuck to drinking wine, and the Sunrise red she had was fantastic. The brightest spot of Charleville was the food! They offer a big menu with a wide variety. We ended up doing the poke bowl, and a charcuterie plate. The pizzas coming out all looked fantastic as well! If we find ourselves down in Ste Gen again, Charleville is definitely going to be a stop! read more

I've been to a lot of wineries over the years, and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. When I visited, I was told by a woman behind the counter that I could feed crackers to their dog -- she even said he would do tricks. So I did exactly what she said. Not even a minute later, a man from behind the bar stormed over, yelling at me, completely out of nowhere. He got in my face, publicly berated me, and told me to leave -- for doing something their own staff instructed me to do. I was mortified. Not only was it deeply unprofessional and aggressive, it was also clear there was zero communication between the people working there -- and zero accountability for how guests are treated. No apology, no clarification, just hostile, humiliating behavior. There are plenty of wineries where you'll be treated with basic respect and decency -- this isn't one of them. I wouldn't go back if you paid me, and I strongly suggest you take your time, money, and attention elsewhere. read more

Stopped off for lunch with a total of here after a weekend in Ste Genevieve and absolutely loved it! It is very clean, feels high end, lots of seating and open space as well as a winery dog! Food is easy to order via QR code and it comes out fast! We ordered lots of appetizers a pizza to share amongst all of us (4 kids, 4 adults). We also had beautiful weather. My wife and I are fans of the brewey in St. Louis. We hiked here from nearby Chaumette where we were staying. This winery/breery has a nice hilltop view and outdoor seating. Due to COVID-19 they have it set up so you order inside but take everything to go. You can sit outside still. We purchased a growler, three bottles of win, and a six pack. We had one bottle of semi dry wite for dinner that night and it was quite good. For beer my wife likes their box of chocolate while I like the Strawberry Blonde. read more

This place is worth the drive! Also, although the address says that it is in Saint Genevieve, it is not exactly in the city limits. It is a beautiful country drive to get to the winery so enjoy the scenery along the winding roads. When you arrive, you will find a beautiful vineyard with amazing views. My favorite wine of theirs is Chambourcin. It is a smooth dry red. Their menu offers a variety of items. I opted for the charcuterie board as my meal and our server made a much appreciated suggestion to order the small board. The small board was actually huge and I needed help finishing it. It was an incredible arrangement of fresh fruit, artisan bread, olives cheeses and meats. A friend in our group also ordered steak which was perfectly prepared to his liking. Another ordered a burger, a pizza and a salad. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and the view was beautiful. They also have wood-fired pizza and other appetizers. Their patio is nice and they have spacious grounds. They also have inside seating. One after we took a ride and wound up at Charleville Vineyard. It was a hot summer day, we purchased a chilled wine and sat out on their covered porch~ while sipping and enjoying the beautiful view! We sat quietly taking it all in, and relaxing while chit chatting as well.... the couple hours passed nicely and the wine could not have been more perfect for that afternoon. The wine room is "rustic lovely", while a good size as well and has many things to look at while tasting for the perfect blend to enjoy~ ( we even purchased a wooden cake platter that was handmade- Beautiful! ). We look forward to our next visit and suggest anyone who enjoys an adventure and wine to make this a trip! Don't let the gravel road turn you around- you will soon arrive and enjoy! read more

We had been to this winery three times before our recent visit, last time being in 2019. Then Covid hit, so this was our first opportunity to return. How utterly disappointing our visit became. When we walked in I stopped and looked around in shock. I wondered if we were at Charleville or if someone had dropped an ultra chic modern, sterile, Manhattan wine bar in its place. What was once the best little winery on Hwy. B had morphed into a space with a very limited wine selection of overpriced wine and beer sold by the ounce from automated taps on a wall. Gone is the quaint, rustic, homey atmosphere from pre 2019 when it was such a relaxing place to spend a few hours going over a great wine selection and enjoying a bottle or two. On top of that, when I reviewed my tab, stuck in the middle of the receipt was a line adding 2 1/2 percent to my bill! When I asked what that was for I was told I was being charged a credit card fee on my total purchase..How sad. read more

One of my favorite wineries in Saint Gen! I recently visited Charleville and was pretty darn impressed. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into because I was following someone there, and we were basically off-roading. We took a gravel road uphill for a good ten minutes, and there was only room for one car to go through at a time so it was interesting trying to deal with other cars coming down. It was crazytown. Quite relieved when we made it up! We had such a warm welcome when the owner came up to say hello and explain how everything worked. You could taste wine outside on a little ledge on one of the buildings, or you could go inside to try beer, get snacks, etc. We tried several beers (the guy doing the tastings was so nice & informative!) and I went with the Strawberry Blonde. Smelled like strawberries which was good enough for me, and the beer itself was crisp and refreshing. We also snagged a platter for $15 that had sausage, cheeses, crackers, and an apple... perfect! The views outside are just breathtaking but the only part I didn't love was the little spider issue we dealt with. Daddy long legs kept getting on me and I could barely relax since I'm so afraid of insects. I'm not blaming Charleville, we were outside for crying out loud, but other places often have concrete under their tables... this one doesn't unless you're on the patio. So just be aware that you might have some creepy crawly friends. Shudder... On the way out I grabbed some homemade black bean & corn salsa and it might be the best salsa I've ever had. This place is so great and definitely worthy of a visit if you're looking for a winery! read more

We stopped by on a rainy Saturday afternoon and I've just got to say, this vineyard looks absolutely stunning. Yes, we did go before it was officially spring, so it wasn't as luscious as it normally is, but still absolutely gorgeous. One pro about this is that they also have a microbrewery. So, if you're coming with a few friends who don't like wine, this might be the place to take them. They do have great hiking trails nearby too if you're looking for something to do that is not quite ethanol related. All in all, a great stop and great for some new pictures. Charleville is a small winery and microbrewery located amongst many of the up and coming wineries in Sainte Genevieve County. They have a tasting room with a small gift shop. They offer complimentary tastings of handcrafted microbrewed beers and wines from their vineyard (they will ask for a $4 deposit on souvenir wine glasses that you can choose to keep). Charleville is well known for their famous Half Wit Wheat Ale. I am personally sold on their new Oatmeal Stout. They serve it from two different taps. It is so chocolaty, creamy, and dreamy. Unfortunately, unlike the Half Wit Ale (sold in stores everywhere), the Oatmeal Stout is new and can only be purchased at Charleville. Sainte Genevieve County is worth the one hour and fifteen minute drive. There are at least 7 wineries within a five mile stretch , several restaurants, villas, spas, and bed & breakfasts. Charleville was our second stop along the wine trail and let me just warn you it is WAY out there. It's along the same road as Chaumette, just further down. But you have to turn off the main road and drive for what seems like forever down a gravel road. I wouldn't necessarily make the trek again, but my husband loved that it was also a brewery. Again, I didn't find any wines to my liking, but the tasting was free so you can't beat that. The tasting room has a pretty big bar and they sell an assortment of snacks and knick knacks. There is a covered patio that overlooks the rolling hills. Definitely a great view. And there are ceiling fans so it's not miserable to sit outside even when it's scorching. There are also plenty of seats out in the open. I think they even have lodging there. read more

How does this place have 5 stars and Chaumette only has 4? Like many, I visited Charleville after visiting nearby Chaumette. It's not as pretty, it's not as nice, they charge you a $4 deposit on glassware and some of the staff was grumpy with my group. I will say that the drive to this winery is beautiful. Some wild turkeys ran past my car as I was approaching, not to mention the bucolic views of cows grazing in pastures. Definitely worth a visit, but not nearly as nice as Chaumette. read more

We came to Charleville as a part of the Route du Vin Harvest Festival. We attend this every year when it was previously known as the Wine Diva Weekend. I'm a craft beer lover more than a wino so i always look forward to this stop since they have a microbrewery as well. They recently moved their brewery to a larger location in St. Louis next to Vin de Set so i wasn't sure what they would still have available here. They had all of their tried and true brews but unfortunately none of the seasonal stouts we tried in St. Louis (definitely worth the trip). But they did have bottles of the whiskey scented Santa my friend told me about so i brought one home but haven't tried it yet. I also had their semi dry white paired with a delicious gumbo which was great on a rainy day! read more

I live in micro-brew heaven here in Seattle, but some of my favorite beers are Charleville's Half Wit, Triple Wit, and their Coffee Beers. In fact, I haven't had a beer here that I disliked. I'm really hoping they ship to Washington one day soon because the rest of the country, nay, the world, needs to be blessed by the brews here. The space itself is super fun. Lots of tables, and the staff is super accommodating and nice. The place can get packed, but they're super cool about opening up space on the porch of the cabin on the property. The property itself is really pretty with a great view of trees and rolling hills. When I am near Cape Girardeau, I always try to make my way here. The only downside is that the area doesn't have Uber, so some poor fool has to be designated driver. :) I love this place! read more

This place is great. We were looking for a place to catch up with some friends and wanted to bring the dogs along for the journey - Charleville was recommended as a dog friendly place The scenery is breath taking and the wood fired pizza was outstanding. Two meat heads and one cheese pizza and one aloha- can't go wrong with any of them. The beer is amazing as well and the wine is just as good. They have plenty of outdoor tables and many of them covered so your out of the sun and it was a scorcher yesterday (July 24th). I really enjoy spending time in Ste. Genevieve and this place is about 25 minutes from downtown but the views are incredible and well worth the drive. There are several wineries in the area which you will pass on the way to Charleville- all of them much bigger but this one is family owned and operated and I always prefer to support a small business owner who lives in the area. The husband and wife team who man the winery are awesome people and made all of us feel right at home. read more

Fellow cross country parents stopped by this winery on the way home from the annual meet in Jackson, MO. What a delight! We made sure to be prepared with a lovely picnic lunch which was enhanced by the delicious beer and suprisingly delicious white wine. In general, I just can't get into the Missouri wine thing---everything always seems to sweet for me. However, this wine was the exception. The view was spectacular. After hiking Hickory Canyon we came here for a bit to eat and a beer. We ordered a brick oven cooked sausage and mushroom pizza which had a perfect thin crust and right amount of toppings. So good! One of my fave Ste. Gen spots! We've been a few times, and I've always enjoyed the wine, and beer especially. On our visit just this past weekend I tried the Ale Mucho Hoppo - how can you resist a Double IPA with that name?! Box of Chocolate and the Tripel Wit are also great tries. They do flights and individual samples (that are bigger than most other brewery sample sizes). I'm into the beer, since I prefer that over MO-wine, just in general, but it's cool to visit a place that makes both. There is even a mile or so long trail that you can take to Chaumette winery, which is fun for walking or even mountain biking through to. read more

The best places you visit manage to hit the "Wow" factor on multiple levels. For me, part of the experience is dealing with the windy dirt roads you'll have to take to get to the property. It isn't TOO far off route WW, and the quality of road is good enough for any vehicle to manage. When you reach the top of the hill, you will be glad you took the detour to Charleville: the property is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful panorama overlooking a private meadow. However, beautiful views alone do not make for a great winery. It's all about the wine. Having grown up in CA, I feel like I have a decent (admittedly far from perfect) sense of what makes for a good wine. I'm generally not a big fan of really sweet wine, which is almost exclusively what you tend to encounter in the eastern states. Well, I don't know they've done it, but this is place is pushing out top-notch dry wines. I tried a dry white and a dry red, and both were epic. Even their sweet wines were really reserved and classy. To boot, the folks working here are absolutely charming and seemed generally interested in learning about their customers and sharing their own experiences. Charleville is almost certainly the premier beverage establishment in Ste. Genevieve. read more

My wife and I have been taking weekend trips to the Ste. Genevieve area for quite a few years now, and Charleville Vineyard has always been one of our regular stops when we're in the area. Truthfully, Charleville deserves a solid 3.5 stars in my book, but since Yelp doesn't give me that option, I had to make a tough decision as to whether I should rate it a 3 or a 4. In the end, I went with 3 stars, because while there are some things that I truly love about this place, there are also quite a few areas where I believe Charleville consistently comes up short. Location - Out of all the wineries on the Route de Vin, Charleville is by far the most difficult to get to. It's the furthest from town, and to get there you have to wind down a gravel road for several miles, then up a fairly steep gravel driveway. Rating: 3. Atmosphere - Charleville's tasting room sits atop a hill with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside. It is without a doubt one of the most picturesque wineries in Missouri, so naturally its patio is one of my favorite places to sit outside and have some drinks. The tasting room itself is nothing special, but in all honesty it doesn't have to be with an outdoor space such as theirs. They also have a very nice 2-room (shared bathroom) B&B onsite, which looks to be a great place for a small group of friends or 2 couples to stay at. Rating: 4. Wine & Beer - One of my favorite aspects of Charleville is that it's both a winery and a microbrewery. On my most recent visit I learned that the winemaster and brewmaster are actually the same guy! But if I'm being completely honest, he needs to stick with beer. Sadly, the wine at Charleville is terrible. I'm not saying that because it's a "Missouri wine"... I actually enjoy a lot of wineries around the state. I'm saying that because the wine just isn't well made. The beer, on the other hand, is excellent! Everything I've tried from Charleville has been well made, with my favorites being the Tripel Wit, Barley Wine, and the Box of Chocolates. Ratings: Wine - 2, Beer - 4 Service - This is where Charleville has been hit-or-miss for me. I've had times in which I've really enjoyed the tasting room experience and had great conversations with the staff, and other times when I felt the workers were just unfriendly. On the most recent visit, I witnessed the owner and the brewmaster get into a huge screaming match in front of everyone in the tasting room. It made both the staff and customers really uncomfortable. Rating: 2 (but has been as good as a 4 on occasion) All told, I really do like Charleville. I've just learned that when I go, it's not to hang out in the tasting room as I do at some other wineries or breweries. I'm there to get some great beer and enjoy the beautiful view from the patio. read more
