the only plus about this gym is that is not crowded. you can go anytime 24/7 and there is no more than 4 people working out . But the machines are old and dusty, the machines are crowded and the position is not quite right. There is only one guy working and he is the manager, the trainer, the janitor and I won't be surprised if he is also the owner. Really for the price paying there, this place should be sparkle clean. If you're looking for a dirty gym, with subpar amenities, cold showers with 24 hour access..this is the place for you! Gym had a recent face lift, there is still construction debris around some of the tread mills this suggests the cleaning regiment her...paint stored in lobby (not a big deal to me but unprofessional looking). The bathrooms don't seem to ever be cleaned, they have fabric shower curtains with no liners so they get wet and moldy. NOT to mention the hot water situation for the past month - as long as there is only one shower going at a time you can have a luke warm shower, other than that enjoy your cold plunge! read more

It's a nice place, clean and friendly, but I wished they had more lockers, I work an 10-14 hour shift, right from work, I have no time to change at work, than drive in dead of winter to work out than back into my vehicle without changing. The photo of those lockers are false, but I gave it a 4 because I had problems with my scheduling they let me out of my contract next month after I tried to make it work. But with a 12-14 hour a day job it's impossible to work out, where I got to get home, eat and sleep for next shift. No time to work out at all, I was hoping to work out every other day, but I even work weekends and have to make a living. I regret to have to leave the club, but hate wasting money on a membership for nothing. read more

Of all the gym memberships I've had and of all the guest passes I've used all over the state, the Devens Anytime Fitness is my favorite place to work out. While it isn't huge, doesn't have its own swimming pool or sauna, it overflows with friendliness and a true sense of community. Never has a gym made me look forward to my workouts based around the kind owner, workers, trainers, and members. The vibe in the air is that of "we accept you and we value you." The cardio area is what you see first when stepping inside (alongside the front desk where you will undoubtedly be greeted with a warm smile and a genuine greeting). They have plenty of cardio equipment: from typical ellipticals to the more "skiing"-like elliptical (not sure of the name), treadmills-a-plenty, a stair-climber, a step-master type machine, bikes, and a rowing machine. Peppered into this area are some great arm, leg, and glute machines as well -- and they are all CLEAN! There are medium-large TVs on the wall facing the machines that seem to all have basic cable. There are other areas of the gym that have more machines, a fairly large weight-lifting area (that has multiple pairs of all kinds of weights of dumbbells), 3 or 4 bathrooms (equipped with showers), an equipment closet to find more specific tools for your workout (kettlebells, balls, yoga mats, jumprope, bands, MORE dumbbells, etc), an area to focus on your back and stomach, and then there's the workout room where they hold their classes (or you can just go in and do your own, quiet workout which I do all the time). The classes. This is my favorite part of the gym. Devens Anytime Fitness has somehow created classes that make you feel like you're working out with your best friends and I can't suggest taking a zumba class more. I find myself literally bummed out if I can't make it to a zumba class, but luckily they offer it three times a week. The instructors are so kind and creative in their choreography, they play the best music, and really get everyone to have fun while sweating it out -- AND YOU WILL SWEAT. Aside from zumba, the small group training and boot camps are quite phenomenal as well. You will feel your muscles grow and you will learn so much. I have taken away a boatload of information from the small group training classes and bootcamps that I now incorporate into workouts on my own. The yoga and piyo classes are not to be ignored either. The instructor is sweet and encouraging even/especially if you're a beginner. Everyone who attends the classes are so friendly you may even want to show up for the social piece :) And I have seen with my own eyes what the personal training has done for members and it's astounding. The trainers really know what they're doing and their clients' bodies CHANGE. I have truly found my niche in the workout world with Devens Anytime Fitness and I encourage all to try it out for themselves. Where sometimes trying out something new, like a gym, can be a bit anxiety-inducing, they have really found a way to put your working out worries at ease. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. read more

This gym in extremely unsafe due to members who refuse to follow simple guidelines like wearing a mask. It's the third time I've walked through the doors to see gentleman not wearing any face covering. I suggest changing the sign on your door to " no mask no service ". read more

Great gym! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff and lots of new clean equipment! I've seen people of all ages and just as many guys as girls- so everyone really is welcome. Very friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere. It gets busy in the after-work hours, but there's always been free equipment when I've been there. They offer really flexible memberships for college students so you can join for just summer and winter break which is really nice. read more

Have fun trying to cancel your membership! Make sure when you sign their contract somewhere on page 12 in size 3 font it will say something along the lines that a "one year contract" means they can charge your credit card for the rest of your life plus another thirty days! Gyms live and breath for people like me who assume a "one year membership" is just that. Just another gym with shady business principles. Take your business to global. Been a member here for a little over a year now and I love it! The owner is always kind and helpful whenever you need anything and she keeps the place very clean and organized. There are plenty of treadmills and ellipticals among other floor equipment in the main front room, with three TVs to keep you occupied while you make it through your workout. More floor equipment in the back and a closet with plenty more workout options. Yoga balls, mats, weights, kettle bells, jump ropes, etc. As well as a room with mirrors to work out in. They offer classes almost every day of the week and they're fun! A good workout for an hour or so and the instructors are friendly and good at what they do. I see all ages of people there, anyone is welcome. What I love about it is that it's open 24 hours so you can truly go whenever you want. You just get a swipe key that you swipe in the front door with. There are office hours when employees are in there as well. read more

Before you sign that one-year contract, be aware of the statistic that 40% to 50% of people who sign up for a gym end up almost never going. I signed a one year contract to this gym, but never went, discovered that the location was just not good for me, I was always going in the other direction. I am now going to a closer gym where you can just join month-to-month, and cancel if you find yourself not going (like May thru Oct when you might exercise outside.) I really only use the gym half the year, so a one-year contract doesn't work for me. Learn from my mistake. read more

If you are looking for a gym with everything that you need, I would not count on this being it. I have trained and been a member at many nice clean gyms over the years and they all had at least one squat rack and there was always an area that I could do deadlifts. If you're looking to get a decent leg workout done, you may have a hard time here. They have a hack squat and leg press, but not enough plates to get much out of it. I just felt like they lacked too many pieces of equipment which I feel are mandatory. I'm sure it may be a good fit for some, but I felt the price was too high at $55/month for what they offered. read more

Whatever you do, stay away from this gym. Before I start, please note that I am NOT reviewing Anytime Fitness as a whole; just the Devens location. First, the staff can be extremely pushy. I understand as a business you need to try to "sell" certain items or services to your clients, however calling and emailing repeatedly during working hours is insane and rude. Second, there are plenty of things that they will not tell about your contract. Because I don't want to go into too much detail because some are personal , however be careful when you sign up. They constantly use the fact that you can use any anytime fitness in they world with you your memebership; although this is true, if you start to use a different gym then the one you signed up at more frequently that becomes your "home" gym. No one at the Anytime Fitness mentioned this to me ( and in speaking to a few other members it seems to be a common trend). The issue with this is that if there ends up being a billing issue, you then owe money to the gym you use most frequently ( which is odd because all of your billing information is stored at the gym you sign up at, meaning if you get a new debit card and give the new number to the gym you signed up at and they charge you an amount, the gym that you use most frequently, if different, could also say that you owe them money because they have become your "home gym". ) Also, if you sign up for a "couples contract", they don't tell you that if one of you uses a different gym more, that they then owe that gym money if there is ever an issue, even though you sign as a couple and give them only one card/number. In addition to all of these issues, the Devens gym changes things without notice ( such as randomly deciding they won't accept debit cards, and forcing all members to give them a direct checking account number; completely not okay considering when signing the contract they tell you it is fine to use a debit card and that is the number on the account). The tanning beds just had new bulbs put in them a few months ago, but prior to that it looked like the same bulbs had been in there for 20+ years, gross. And the bathrooms constantly have water all over the floor and trash randomly. I understand that it is up to the gym guests to keep to bathrooms cleaned, however they should be checked up on by staff once in a while ( yes I know the staff is busy, but they have plent of time to sit in the office and chat, which also leaves them plent of time to take a two minute trip to see if things are acceptable). Despite what they show on their facebook page, not all of their "staff" members still work there. Please know this because the Anytime Fitness Devens lost some truely wonderful trainers, yet refuse to take their pictures off of their facebook page, even after multiple conversations, include conversations with the people whose pictures they are. I find them very unprofessional. As far as the equipment goes, it's not bad and the 24/7 entrance is nice, but there are plenty of other places you can find that at without being treated like dirt. read more

There is another bad review for this DEVENS location. This will be their 2nd bad review. First of all the place is small with too many machines crammed in to the area. The staff use ploys to get you to join offering half ass health assessments that include keeping your heavy clothing on. The group area is small and crammed with people according to my husband who went to one of their promotional group contests. My 16 year old son thought he might like to join so I signed him up for a year membership. He was uncomfortable there for his own awkward reasons. I asked if I could but his monthly membership towards some private training sessions but I was denied outright!!! I was told to use the membership myself or have my son go when the place was "quiet". Also, I had my bank card compromised, so I gave my new banking info directly to the Devens billing person Lori as instructed by the owner Valerie. Lori never informed their 3rd party billing agency that I had updated my bank info nor was I instructed to do so either!!! Again, I was charged late fees for services NOT received. Their solution to work things out with you is to charge your bank account in return for nothing!!! SHop around and find a place that is more reasonable and willing to make work with you if you happen to find yourself in a situation that was not expected! This totally turned me off from even wanting to use my son's membership!!! Oh yeah, they continue to charge your bank account even after the membership expires without even getting permission and slyly having you initial an area on the contract that says you agree with this!!!!
