Problem was only once was I allowed to stay on the table long enough for the timer to actually time out and go off. The services received by Dr. Eileen Whelan did not help my condition. I felt worse after the chiropractic treatments and needed to take Advil for the pain. On my last visit I was presented with a plan made up for me to visit the workout center using their trainer under the Chiropractor's supervision. I am not overweight nor in need of work out machines. I said I was not interested. The attitude changed much like a time share salesperson does as soon as you say "no thanks, it's not for me". When asked why I was not willing to keep coming 2x a week, I tried to explain how I was rushed off the spinalator table but I was interrupted by Dr. Eileen Whelan so I politely stopped talking to listen yet I was not given the chance to respond. I was actually told not to come back again. I said you are overreacting. I got the feeling if I was not overjoyed with her care I was no longer welcome- ever again! In my opinion this office seems to be Chiropractors that set up their practice with the intention of keeping the clients coming indefinitely.

We ended up sending both of our boys for a six-week board and train with Kelia. It seemed to only make sense to send both dogs so they would have the same baseline training. Kelia was amazing! She kept us informed just about every day with videos and texts so we could see that the boys were happy and making progress. When Kelia brought the boys home, she spent a few hours with us, showing all the commands and techniques that she taught them, so we had a seamless transition. The "place" command alone has been lifechanging. (Although as you can see in the picture, they sometimes refuse to use separate mats, LOL.) We use the command before we feed them, initially when guests come by, and when we just need them to settle down a bit. It has reduced the stress and chaos in our house tenfold, and we actually can see the boys relax when they know they have a place to go and chill out. Kelia also gave us the tools to make leash walking and general obedience so much more successful. There are a lot of options out there for training. What set Controlled K9 apart for us was (1) our boys lived with Kelia, her family, and her dogs during training - they were not staying in a kennel and were in a real-life, loving environment, and (2) the promise of lifetime, free follow-up support. The boys have been home now for about 3 months. The training has stuck, and we feel like we really have the tools we need to make life pleasant for all of us, including the boys. Kelia has also proactively checked in to make sure things are going well, provided tips on the best way to reinforce training, and has responded quickly when we have follow-up questions, including offering a visit. Over three months later, we are still completely satisfied with the training and support provided by Controlled K9 and Kelia, and we would use them again in a heartbeat.

Since he's worked with her over the five-week training period, he's made a complete 180. Now we're able to walk around the city and not have him bark at every dog we see on the street. I want to point out that because my dog is innately anxious, it affects his physical state too with eating and other issues. Kelia shared that she used to be a vet tech and made me feel the most comfortable and confident with helping me set up a plan for when he might have an episode due to the transition and what all would take place to ensure he would be okay, loved, and healthy. Long story short, she cared for him for the days he was struggling, kept me updated, and he came out of it because she was purposeful, knowledgeable, and more than capable to handle the situation. I can't recommend Kelia enough for anyone seeking support and/or confidence in how they can better work with, love, and respect their dog. Bonus, she's genuinely such a joy of a human being!

The head lifeguard said no, the other lifeguards will watch him. Some special needs children require accommodations that caretakers like his father (me) are highly attuned to. The teenaged lifeguards would simply blow their whistles and scream at my son as they've done before. I am there to assist as needed so 1) we avoid the screaming lifeguards, and 2) so he can experience what all the other kids can do on their own. Obviously we didn't go on it. Thanks for understanding, SplashDown, we'll never go there again. Side note: Some of these lifeguards hate their life and shouldn't be there.

The facility is small but has sufficient space and the HVAC system works well. The select of equipment covers all of the muscle groups (suggestion - core/abs could be better represented). You can definitely do a full body work out. The staff was GREAT - I called about 10 minutes before the staff leaves and she hooked me up with a day pass and keycard so I could come in that day and workout during the 'unstaffed' hours. I'm only in Louisa once or twice a month, but I will definitely come back when I am in town.

The cardio room has much to be desired, as all of it is old and outdated. It's disappointing that a nationwide franchise hasn't opened up in Louisa or Mineral, as I believe with the recent growth of retiree's to the lake area would support a full-service gym.

Charlottesville itself is known for having a very transient, ever-changing population so this policy doesn't make sense to me. When I was there, some weirdo was on the stairclimber making this god-awful coughing noise about every 10 seconds. look, I know everyone has their workout quirks but spreading your germs around knowingly (in the age of airborne viruses like COVID) is a bad idea. I brought it to the attention of the desk attendant and she did not seem particularly phased by the news. ACAC Downtown is within walking distance of my flat/crashpad so I will go back. but I'm just hoping they either bring back the punch card or institute a program for non-residents to make life a bit easier.

Over that time, aside from gaining about 20 pounds and loosing a lot of muscle tone, I developed some bad back problems as well as very sore knees both of which were actually staring to interfer with my ability to do things around the house and keeping me from enjoying playing with my grandkids. In all seriousness, the team there, especially Jana, helped me get back into the training routine guiding me along and making certain that I not do anything stupid to hurt myself. That was last August. Its now January and I have lost ten pounds, my back is strong, and my knees are getting stronger. This just proves that, with the right trainer, anyone can get fit. I spoke with Bill, the owner, and he was very accommodating and helpful and said to come on over. Briana (sp?) at the front desk gave me a tour and showed me all of the amenities they have in their gym. It's not a huge space but it is very well organized and sparkling clean. My gym back home should see how this place is maintained. All of the equipment is in great shape, they have; free weights, several squat racks, dumbbells, a selection of machines, TRX setup (see picture) and some kettlebells for you hardcore masochists. They provide one-on-one personal training and from the interactions I saw with clients they have loyal followers. I would not hesitate to recommend this gym. They deserve 5 stars.
