Formal Complaint Regarding Employee Conduct at Planet Fitness Charlottesville (Wegmans Area) Dear Planet Fitness Customer Service, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the conduct of a front desk employee, CJ, at the Planet Fitness located near Wegmans in Charlottesville, Virginia, on June 29, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM. During my visit, I was attempting to unfreeze my account. I asked CJ to please hold on for a moment while I pulled up my app to continue the process. Despite this, he repeatedly gave me information I was already aware of, and I again asked him to hold on while I prepared my request. At that point, he began displaying an attitude and became rude. When I asked him to please listen so he could assist me more effectively, he became visibly upset. He then told me to "calm down and relax," even though I had remained calm, cordial, and quiet the entire time. Throughout this interaction, CJ continued to demonstrate extremely disrespectful and condescending behavior. Further, CJ threatened to "evict" me from the gym, claiming he had that authority. This was simply because I was trying to complete my request and asked him to listen to my explanation before proceeding. I find this behavior unacceptable and believe it reflects very poorly on Planet Fitness. As a paying member, I expect respectful and professional customer service. I respectfully request that this matter be investigated and addressed appropriately, and that I receive a response outlining how Planet Fitness intends to handle this situation. I have been away for the summer. As a black card member I was able to use a club on Cape Cod. When I returned to my home club in Charlottesville I was astonished. There is now all new machines! I needed lessons on how to use them. In addition the massage chairs were replaced with awesome programs for your back, arms, and legs. This club has always been kept very clean. Now it is immaculate. When I first moved to Cville I was concerned I was no longer going to have access to a Planet Fitness, to my surprise, it turns out that it is within a 10-15 minute drive. When you first walk in, you'll be surprise with how much square footage this facility has available for you to work out. The franchise has done a good job to make sure from a clients point of view that we have the same experience at any of the clubs you may visit nationwide. Plenty of cardio equipment, separate exercise rooms, dumbbells, smith machines and set equipment. It has the basics to and enough to keep you in shape and get you on a better you routine. Very decent gym, it's nice and big and has lots of equipment so it's easy to switch around your routine if something is taken. It can get pretty crowded after work, but middle of the day isn't too bad or after 8:30pm. The staff are really friendly and worked with me to find a membership plan that accommodated my medical constraints (occasionally would get out on bed rest and wasn't super excited to pay a ton of money if I couldn't use it). First day getting back to working out and figured this place would be convienent to get back into it. Weights were sufficient and at first staff was attentive showing me around as a black card member. Once that's done you're forgotten about which is fine but at the end wanting a hydro massage there was only one table working and was asked to wait even tho the only one in there was an employee during shift. No big deal I waited and when I was to get on they were putting someone else on the table. When I said I believe I'm next I was told I had to check in with desk and wait my turn. I said I did that and he said well it's another 10 minutes. I said it's fine I'll just leave and was met by every other employee at the desk just hanging out socializing. I was asked how was it, I told them they put someone else in the room because they didn't come get me. Mind you that it's a glass door by the desk they were just too caught up in social hour. Kinda upset that I signed up for a year I should've seen the signs when it was full of 20 something's trying to just hang with their friends. Not happy with day 1 but I'll give it another shot before I cancel and find a more attentive gym. read more

I am a huge fan of planet fitness. The facility is clean, spacious, and has all the equipment I need. Best of all it's super cheap. You can pay $10 per month for 24/7 access to the gym. There is a yearly membership fee of about $50 but that only adds $5 per month to the total cost. Everyone is welcome here from those just starting to get in shape to bodybuilders. They have a lot or cardio machines. There are also free weights that go up to 75lbs. Unfortunately there are no free bars for squatting but there are quite a few Smith machines. My only complaint is that they don't have 35lbs plates, but they do have all the other weights. It is never busy enough that you can't get the workout you want in. The staff are super friendly and are always working to keep the space clean. They are constantly dusting and cleaning to ensure the equipment stays clean. There are spray bottles and paper towels to wipe down the equipment after you use it. The locker-room has a ton of lockers but if you want to lock your stuff you have to bring your own lock. Also make sure to bring your own towels as there's no towel service (expected for what you pay). There is an app that has your membership card on it so you don't have to worry about forgetting the fob at home. They have fitness classes and personal training but I have never done them so can't say much about it. Also, you can upgrade to the black card for $10 extra per month which gets you access to a massage chair, special locker-room, and hydromassage but I don't really see the need for that. read more

Planet Fitness recently upgraded all of their equipment and the gym is a much improved place as a result. They reconfigured the entire "map" in a way that makes perfect sense. There is now much more room, especially for those wanting to use free weights or cables. Great improvements, please never change! read more

Here's what I can say about this Planet Fitness: -It's consistently clean, and I regularly see employees cleaning machines and the floor -The employees almost always greet me and say goodbye warmly when I come and go -There is a good variety of machines and I almost never have to wait for someone else to finish, even at peak times -It has some lame corporate features (particularly the suspicious free pizza and bagels and unhealthy tanning beds), though the contracts are more explicit and readable than you usually find. While I don't love the corporate vibe, I also recognize that this backing is what makes it super affordable. -The small group classes are essentially personal training (sometimes only 1-2 people per class). The leader, Jim, is helpful and versatile and remembers things about me even though I'm not a frequent class attendee -No free WiFi unless you have the more expensive membership Wait around for a membership deal (they come very frequently, even mid-year), and get your fitness on! read more

This gym is very clean and the machines are in good shape and well maintained. The staff always greet me with a smile and a hello and say goodbye when I leave. That's already better than I've found at most other gyms Other gym members here also seem genuinely friendly and courteous, for the most part. We all just have to forgive and be a bit patient with the small percentage who don't understand basic gym etiquette. But you find them in every gym. Of course PF is not a power lifting gym, but it isn't marketed to power lifters and you aren't paying the power lifter's gym price, either. They have dumbbells that go up to 75lbs and Smith machines instead of squat racks, but those are going to get the job done for most people. I hardly ever have to wait for a bench and I can hit every body part with a free weight, cable machine, or kettlebell. The locker room is always clean and well maintained. I can't speak to the cardio equipment because cardio just plain sucks in the off-season so I haven't gone near it. But people look like they enjoy the heck out of it in this gym and there are plenty of bikes, dreadmills, elipticals and whatever else those things are behind me. It has been a great new home for my training. read more

I just wanted to write a short review. This planet fitness in Charlottesville, VA is where I currently strength train. Just wanted to give a shout out to Joel. He is one of the employees. The first time I came he wasn't there and the people weren't very friendly, engaged as little as possible. But Joel greets you with a smile and a hello every time I come in. Even before I started talking to him he was always super friendly and happy to answer any questions I had. I have gotten to talk to him more recently and he deserves a shout out. This review is 5 stars only because of him. He is to me the definition of what customer service is all about. Approachable and empathetic. It takes more energy to be rude to someone then to be kind and unfortunately people go out of there way to be rude for no apparent reason. Also quick shout out to Mark . He is another employee who is approachable. I just haven't gotten that vibe from anyone else , not to say they aren't nice people but if your body language is saying I don't want to be here, leave me alone what do you expect people to think. I moved to this gym from the Harrisonburg gym and for some reason thought it was going to be bigger... it is like half the size of the planet fitness in Harrisonburg. They need a new location. It gets very crowded very fast. It also bugs me that they don't in force the rules more... there are always guys slamming weights down and yelling...I don't feel like planet fitness is the place for that. 2 stars is for friendly staff and a clean gym. read more

I I joined Planet Fitness several years ago.. I am a black card member, which means that I can visit any other PF gym when I travel. It also means that I can bring a friend with me to workout if I want to. I just got back from Cape Cod where I was able to use the gym there. I have to say that this PF in Charlottesville is immaculate compared to others that I have visited. The equipment is really clean. You can tell by what the pedals on the NuStep machine. One day I walked in and the manager, Angela, was cleaning the arms of the stair step machine with at tooth pick to get the dirt out of the seams of the machine. The members in this club are also very good about cleaning after they have used the machine. It's well run and a bargain at $22/month. read more

I moved to Charlottesville last summer and started going to ACAC for a month trial this fall. I then heard that Planet Fitness was opening in November and got out of ACAC before I was stuck in a year long contract for $89 a month. So far Planet Fitness has everything I need for $10/month (plus some hidden fees like annual renewal and I'm sure they'll have a weird cancellation fee). Planet Fitness has a lot of cardio machines all with personal TVs, as much weight equipment as ACAC, free weights (ACAC does this better, PF's dumbbells only go up to 75lbs), an ab room, and a 30 minute workout room (machines are arranged in rows along with a timer to put you through a pre-constructed workout). They don't offer classes on the same level as ACAC, and don't have a pool. All of the equipment is new, and so far the place has been mostly empty because it just opened and they don't have a full customer base yet. They only have four floor mats for situps/floor exercises and they're already starting to get ratty. I'm hoping they'll replace them frequently but it's too early to know how well this place will be maintained. Overall I'm happier spending $10/month here on a month to month basis, compared to ACAC which is $89/month and locks you in to a year long contract. Planet Fitness is definitely gaudy and tacky, but it gets the job done. If you don't mind spending the money ACAC has far nicer facilities. I'll update this in 6 months or so once I can see how well they keep this place up. read more

My boyfriend bought the black card membership so I was able to use the gym as a guest. The membership price is really cheap so that's why I gave it a three stars instead of two stars. My biggest issue is that Planet Fitness does not have unassisted squat racks. They do have a couple assisted ones, but it's not enough. There's pretty much always a wait to use those. Service is mediocre. We were misinformed about the date of cancellation, but thankfully one of the staff members still let us cancel with only a $20 fee. Overall, not the greatest gym. It's crowded and mostly catered to those who just want to focus on cardio and not weight training. But the price is very low. read more

I was just up there yesterday and was told my account was closed and I was all set, then I get a call this afternoon saying I have to come back up there. Granted I'm an hour away and I said multiple times yesterday to the associate that my account was settled and closed. Not a 24 hour gym. Very crowded most times of the day and the equipment has been used hard. Sometimes the machines shake and the treadmills/stairs break on you mid workout. No total body machine either. It's an ok gym but it's not as good as most of the PF I have attended. I expected more from Charlottesville. read more

This is a gimmicky place. It's a bunch of treadmills and ellipticals but not enough equipment to go around. I waited 20 minutes for a matt just to do some crunches. I could have done that at home. They do have hidden fees like a yearly membership plan and you don't get to use half of the facilities without a black card. I joined because it was going to be cheaper than Smith Aquatic and I needed some place I could do my physical therapy stuff. There is no space there to do that and they don't have machines that weigh low enough for me to do my routine. This isn't the gym for everyone and I've learned that the hard way. They gym also has a manager who doesn't call you back when you need assistance, a front desk that doesn't give you a tour, and a corporate line that doesn't work. read more

My friends and I are so relieved that Planet Fitness has finally opened in Charlottesville. As a self-proclaimed gym rat, I can confidently say that this is by far the best fitness center in the area. All the equipment is clean and in perfect condition and well organized. They really made the space flow well and that helps make workouts efficient and effective. I've only been a member for 2 weeks and all the staff knows me by name and greets me with big smile when I come in. The General Manager, Mitch Grimes, is incredibly welcoming and friendly. You can tell he really enjoys his job by the way he interacts with the members and staff, along with the professionalism he exudes on a daily basis. I look forward to working out here every day and would highly recommend this gym to anyone interested getting in shape and living a healthy lifestyle. read more

The equipment is limited but in good repair, the space is clean and well-ventilated, there is a nice 30 minute cardio circuit for variety, and the clientele laid back. Agree with comments of others about lacking classes and can be crowded during peak hours, but a great deal when taken in total. ' BUT, I recently noticed that the news outlets offered on the flat screen shrunk from CNN, Fox, MSNBC to just the first two. I like to hear different perspectives, so asked about the change. Was told that 'Corporate' had come in and mandated that Fox stay and one of others get cut. I wrote a complaint to PF central office. In response, it was stated that "As each location is an independently owned and operated franchise, the programs playing in the club are set by that particular location". Someone lied. A business has the right to show whatever they want on their TVs. I have the right to give a bad review and voice my complaint about liars. read more
