This company came to my house on the request of CT MDC to install a sump pump in my basement. I had to be out of town and asked a neighbor to let them in the house. It is unbelievable to me that a company as this would provide such awful work! First they place the system above base flooring right in the middle of my basement. The reasoning was that it had to be placed close to an existing hole, but what was worst was the piping and plumbing and subpar electrical work that was attached to the unit. Picture below should provide a better description. I believe because there was no oversight, and since it was contracted by MDC and not the homeowner, they thought they could perform such shoddy work. I'm just overall dissatisfied with their work and would definitely not recommend their service to anyone.

They immediately sent out someone who evaluated the situation, and explained it to me. they came back the next morning, on time had ordered everything needed overnight to repair and heat and hot water. When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

Maybe you can't flush the toilet, or wash your hands, or take a shower, or do the laundry or wash the dishes, or stop a leak. In troubled times like those examples, you'd damn sure better have a good dependable plumber. Well, we found one. In the last 60 days, we've used Gilbert Plumbing four times as a key component in some remodeling work. 1) They disconnected and removed a sink/vanity and toilet from bathroom #1. 2) They repaired a pinhole leak in our main house supply line and added a safety shutoff valve. 3) After bathroom #1 had a new floor and walls, they connected a new sink/vanity and toilet. 4) They connected a new sink/vanity in bathroom #2. This install was a bit more complicated than the bathroom #1 install because the sink flange didn't line up with the old drain -there was a bit of an offset problem. Gilbert also installed a new garbage disposer to replace one that broke down. They always arrived promptly, worked quickly, and charged us reasonably for their work. Bathroom #3 is on the drawing board, and we'll use Gilbert to install a new sink and bring our 1972 shower up to the current building code.

On July 9 2026, I had a terrible experience with Alvin's Plumbing and Heating LLC. Before scheduling, I called to ask about their diagnostic fees to estimate a under-sink filter leak repair. A representative told me it would cost $60 to send a technician, who would then give me a price estimate. However, when the technicians arrived, they never mentioned a hidden baseline fee of $195 just to touch the plumbing. One technician immediately began working without providing an upfront estimate. He cut one inch of a small 1/4" plastic pipe, which fixed the leak. When I asked for the total, he revealed the $195 charge. I was outraged by this hidden fee. Since he was already there, I asked about replacing a bathroom faucet. I explicitly asked if the $195 would be separate or if it would roll into the cost of the new job. They told me, "No, the $195 is going to roll into the cost of the additional job." The office quoted a total price of $225. I agreed to this. After the work was done, they wanted charge my credit card $420 ($195 + $225), completely going back on their word. I requested the manager's number to dispute this overcharge, but the owner refused to honor the agreed upon price. Despite multiple phone calls, I have not received a refund. This company uses misleading sales tactics, hides fees until the work is done, and takes advantage of old citizens. I am submitting an official complaint with Better Business Bureau
