You will not be disappointed!! This restaurant was delicious. The service was friendly and fast, the food was delicious and hot, and the atmosphere was great. It's very chill so you don't have to come dressed up or fancy. My chicken and rice meal was delicious. It was kind bbq sweet flavor. The macaroons salad on the side was also great. My wife loved her panang curry. It comes already kind of spicy so if you don't like spicy it's not the meal for you. If we come back to Chicago I'd definitely return to try more

This was i/2 of the kalbi! Most places give 3 ribs, not 4, so it was a good sized portion. Yummy, maybe a tad too sweet.

We had a mixup with the order that was supposed to be delivered by Doordash. I attempted unsuccessfully to change it from pickup to delivery. So we had to walk there, so the food wasn't hot. The sesame chicken had a breading that was way too thick. The kalbi was tasty, maybe a tad too sweet. The beef fried rice was very good, lots of chunks of beef that should have been cut up smaller. The young man who helped us was fantastic!!! He realized our ordering dilemma and bent over backwards to make sure our needs were met. He was the owners nephew, so Dad, you raised him well!!

    Mie Goreng - vegan style

Recently stopped in and had the lumpia and the vegan mie goreng. I had never had mie goreng and it was a genuinely moving experience - I couldn't stop until I had finished every piece and every bite was better than the last. I'd been in before to AO and enjoyed it but this past time was downright exceptional.

We came here for a quick bite to eat before heading out to Soldier Field. All the other bars were full and had a wait time. This place was rather empty and we were able to get a table right away. My son ordered their Kailua Pig and I ordered their Loco Moco. Our intentions were to eat light and holy cow were these plates massive. Both dishes were food but my sons was definitely better. The pork had a lot of flavor especially with the hoisin sauce drizzled on top and went perfect with the white rice. My Loco Moco wa as bit much. A very wet dish with two burger patties on top of rice and gravy covering the entire plate. It was then topped off with a fried egg and grilled onions. Its was a good hearty and filling dish, but probably wouldn't order this again. I can definitely see myself returning for some drinks and to try do more entrees though.

Can AO Hawaiian Hideout get any better than 10/10? YES THEY CAN! My brother and I been coming regularly & usually get our favorites (egg rolls, steamed fish, beef/vegetables, etc) but today we both agreed everything was EXTRA fresh, delicious & ample. You must get the thick tasty spam musubi too. Anddddd the lychee martini had extra boozy kick - my kind of boost oolala! Special thanks to our lovely talented waitress Pan Pan & rest of the wait staff.

Very large portions for leftovers, service was ok and it can get quite crowded at times

I loved the decorations and the ambiance! The food was amazing with big portions, and the service was great as well. I would love to come back here and try all the other items on the menu.

Very nice Hawaiian style decorations, friendly services, foods were tasty but too salty/heavy to us. Island nachos $17.88 Fresh raw tuna | spicy tuna | avocado | cilantro | red onions | jalapeno | mix greens | on a bed of crispy wonton skins | drizzled with Asian sesame dressing | wasabi aioli | spicy Sriracha aioli | unagi sauce. Huli Huli Chicken 2pcs $19.88 Grilled boneless chicken leg/thigh meat, then smothered in our garlic ginger brown butter pineapple shoyu sauce, slightly sweet savory tangy flavor. Served with mac salad, cucumber kimchi & jasmine rice To Go Kalua pig $18.88 Slow cooked hand pulled pork, simmered in its natural flavors & juices. Drizzled with our hoisin bbq sauce, togarashi & green onions. Served with jasmine rice, cucumber kimchi & scoop of mac salad.

The interior of the restaurant teleports you outside of Chicago. You step off the busy city streets and into a tropical paradise. We went around 3:30pm on a Monday so it was not busy at all which I loved. It was quiet and so relaxing, they had the windows open so there was a cool breeze blowing along with tropical music playing in the background. The service was so quick it felt like we waited no time at all for our food. I got the ahi tuna poke bowl, and my boyfriend got the spicy salmon poke bowl. Both portions were enormous!! The flavors worked so well together and I loved all of the toppings, especially the seaweed salad and pickled veggies. My favorite part is when you get toward the bottom of the bowl and the rice soaks up all the sauce. Everything about my experience at AO Hawaiian hideout was perfect. I wanna try the Hawaiian bbq chicken next time and so much more.

The island nachos are insanely good, drinks are delicious and strong, they have outdoor seating, short ribs plate is so good. Goood amount of food !

    Moco Loco
    Sam K.

Seems to be focused more on the fun tropical vibes and drinks than the menu, which there aren't too many to choose from apart from the poke bowls. However, the moco loco I ordered was very good, the gravy full of flavor and the hamburger patties with a nice crispy char. The portion was also huge, maybe enough for two people to share, with enough rice to soak in all that gravy. Just note that with onions as the only vegetable for this dish, it may seem a bit heavy. Service can also be slow when busy.

I was super excited to come to AO Hawaiian hideout after eating some other reviews on here. I initially walked from my hotel which took me about 25 minutes thanks to Google maps spinning around like a carousel which helped me work up a healthy appetite for dinner. When I came in, the entrance is decorated pretty nicely and then there are some display cases with different types of tiki mugs. Many of which are for sale so you're able to take home a little bit of this paradise if you really want to. I had initially sat at the tables but it was a large table and I was by myself and didn't want to take up that much space. So I asked to be seated by the bar. Which is why some of the pictures I took had this blue glow to them that probably don't highlight the food as much as could have. The food wise was really good and the portions. My opinion were rather watch. I had ate dinner that night and took the leftovers home which was lunch. The next day. I had the Hawaiian BBQ chicken that I thought was very good and was recommended by the staff. For drinks, I had a Mai Tai which packed a pretty big punch. My first sip was a little strong, but after eating a little bit and coming back to it, the ice had melted. Just enough for the drink. Actually mellowed greatly and was very enjoyable. Tiki drinks tend to be very strong so I didn't really find this as an issue. All in all, when I travel I like to go to places that are new and I would say if I came back to Chicago I would definitely come here again, especially if I have my wife kid. I think they would love the atmosphere and it's definitely a little tropical getaway in a busy City.

This place is so good! There are tables that seat one person all the way up to a big group. And they have a wide menu to suit everyone's needs. The service was good and the food was delicious - huge portions as well! The chicken sauce was so flavorful and my friend who got the huli huli chicken also loved the dish. Definitely would come back to try other items from the menu

Will you be open for holidays like thanksgiving and Christmas?

We are open daily, except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Do you still have tofu lettuce wraps?

No. Sorry, we have many new vegan items that are very well recieved.

How spaced out is indoor seating?

When I went in the place was relatively empty so despite sitting on a booth the other customers were well further than 6 feet.

It was a perfect way to end my day. I had a glass of champagne and my server recommended the Basque cheesecake. Which was perfect cause I recently visited San Sebastian, Spain. The Basque region makes a great cheesecake. The burned caramelized top complimented my champagne well. There is a room/bar in the back room of where I was. A great bar with games and TVs for sports.
