What a great option steps away from McCormick place convention center. Surprisingly high end (and expensive) but still felt casual. We started with a dozen oysters - two each of six different kinds. A very nice mix. The crab cake starter was NOT a typical Midwest version. This was 99% crab and no filler. Well seasoned. Lobster bisque was good. They also have a variety of sushi and my husband enjoyed the rainbow roll. We had no alcohol and our party of two had a 20% gratuity automatically added and about 10% in sales tax so the bill was just over $200. I also enjoyed the gumbo and the New England clam chowder, both of which were outstanding. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The menu was only available in the bar area. I waited 5 minutes to be checked in for my reservation and my seat at the bar was already prepared for me. I was craving a lobster roll but didn't feel like driving all over the city to get one, so I stopped in here on a Friday afternoon for a quick bite and a cocktail before kicking off my evening. I ordered a lychee martini, which was delicious -- definitely on the pricier side, but well-made and not too sweet. The server told me their lobster roll was "the best around," so I gave it a shot. And here's where I made a rookie mistake: I didn't ask whether it was Maine-style or Connecticut-style. It came out Maine-style with a cold crunchy situation going on... and that's just not my thing. The roll itself was a lot of bread, not enough lobster, and of course cold... the creaminess reminded me of the god forsaken macaroni salad my dad used to make us eat as a child.. which was an immediate no for me. Cute, trendy little restaurant. We stopped by on a rainy Wednesday on a whim while on business in the city. We were craving oysters so we ordered the platter that had 2 of each grilled oysters. All were just okay - a little too watery. Let's start with the positives, because the customer service is on point. Friendly from beginning to end. Even tried to find out sports team on the TV. They always checked on us through the meal. Love good service. Now the food.. if your main thing is Oysters than this is the #1 thing that should be on point. The medium oysters were very small and not the delicious plump ones I had at other places. The seafood pasta dish.. the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery and the marinara sauce was just terrible. It was dry and the other seafood was just blah. I love sushi.. it was also blah. The drinks were ok but overpriced. My wife had $15 side dish of asparagus because everything is ala carte. Her Chilean sea bass was actually cooked pretty well and so was the asparagus just extremely overpriced. The key lime pie we took to go had way too much lime in it. Despite the name, there are many menu choices besides oysters. No one in our party had oysters. Several of us enjoyed the surf and turf special- 4oz filet with grilled shrimp. My review is solely based on the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. Our hotel recommended it so we walked over and were unsure immediately as we got there and walked in. First time dining at the Chicago Oyster House in years, but unlikely that it will be our last visit. Delicious Cocktails--a traditional Espresso Martini and truly unique Tiramisu Martini. Highly recommended. A good but not great slightly limited wine list was the only disappointment. The food was generally outstanding. If you want a really different soup experience I urge you to try the Gumbalaya Soup: slow-cooked brown roux sprinkled with thyme, tomato, onion, garlic, celery, green bell pepper, paprika, okra, chicken, andouille sausage, rice, mussels and shrimp. The grilled oyster offerings were plentiful and the raw oyster options sufficiently varied. To experience the oyster options I urge you to order the Grilled Oysters Combo comprised of 2 of each C.O.H -- garlic, cilantro and cheese; ICHI -- jalapeño, scallions, ginger and zesty soy; FIRECRACKER -- spices, herbs and lime juice; and the traditional Oysters Rockefeller offering -- spinach and cheeses. We didn't think there was room left for entrees so we had two remarkably fresh seafood appetizers: Crab Cakes consisting of lump crab meat seasoned and baked not pan fried (refreshing); and, the Lobster Roll -- succulent tail meat served chilled New England style with mayo and celery salt in toasted bun with deliciously seasoned fried pickles. My daughter and I were going to the theater and decided to give this place a try beforehand. We found street parking right around the corner and in having a reservation we didn't have to wait at all. In fact it was so early in the evening that there were only two other tables. We had the calamari and the lobster roll for appetizers, both were very good. (The lobster roll comes with fried pickles, which we did not care for.) They cut the lobster roll in half for us and by the time we finished those two things we didn't have a whole lot of room, so we ordered one sushi roll each. We had the Chicago and the Volcano and they were perfect. We had one drink each and splurged on brownie a la mode ($14!) for dessert. Their prices are a bit on the high side, plus they add a 20% service charge to every bill. I didn't mind this because they are upfront about it and tell you on the receipt that the service charge is divided among the staff, and you have the option to tip additional to your server, although it's only "suggested." And they have a few amounts calculated for you. Our server was Beckie and she was very attentive so I did add more. It was $175 for the two of us so we won't do it often, but everything was fresh and delicious so for special occasions it would be great. read more

We had dinner here during restaurant week. I chose the clam chowder, lamb chops, and cheesecake. I could not have been more impressed. The chowder was full of large pieces of clam and had a beautiful creaminess. I've never had lamb that was this tender before and it was cooked to perfection. We finished the meal with cheesecake that had a rich creamy consistency. The wait staff anticipated every need we had before we knew we had it. Neither of us had ever had oysters on the shell before and our waitress helped us pick out a selection that was perfect. We had an 8:00 PM reservation on Valentine's Day and arrived at 7:55 PM, but weren't seated until 9:15 PM over an hour wait with a reservation. We were also told we would be charged a $25 per person cancellation fee if we chose to leave, despite the delay being on the restaurant's end due to clear overbooking. We didn't receive our food until around 10:00 PM. They added a Valentine's Day fee claiming they would provide something special for the table which ended up being six rose petals. The food was disappointing: * Oyster platter was mid AT BEST * Surf and turf steak was ordered medium but came out well done and tough, and the single shrimp was underwhelming. * The jambalaya arrived cold. It was such a bad experience I don't even know where to start. I made an 8:45 PM reservation two weeks in advance for Valentine's Day. With their strict 10-minute grace period policy, you would expect to be seated at your reserved time. We arrived five minutes early and were told there would be a 30-minute wait -- for a reservation. We considered canceling and going elsewhere, but they would have charged us $25 per person for canceling. Not a great start. After waiting 30 minutes, we were seated in a booth directly next to another couple -- so close it felt like we were on a double date. Completely inappropriate seating for Valentine's Day. I asked to switch tables because that wasn't the experience we had in mind, and thankfully we were moved. The server encouraged us to place our full order at once to "help the kitchen," so we ordered oysters (6 count), calamari, pasta, steak, and two sides. You'd expect appetizers to come out promptly -- they didn't. It took 40 minutes for the oysters to arrive, which were extremely small and mid at best, and an additional 30 minutes for the calamari, which tasted like they fried it in week old oil. Our drinks took at least 30 minutes to reach the table. By 10:45 PM, we still hadn't received our main courses. We repeatedly asked the waiter for an update and were told "5 more minutes" each time. The main courses finally arrived over an hour and a half after we ordered. The steak, requested medium rare, came out nearly blue. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from the dollar store. We sent the steak back, and when it returned, parts of it were nearly well done. At that point, my girlfriend didn't even want it anymore -- she had barely eaten any of it. When we asked what could be done, they offered 50% off the steak and mashed potatoes and a complimentary dessert to go -- a weak attempt to salvage an already ruined valentine's day evening. We asked for the check because it was nearly midnight and we just wanted to leave. Then came the final insult: we were charged $32 for two bottles of water -- even though we asked for tap water -- plus a $48 service fee. Even with the partial discount, the bill came out to $250. I honestly could've gotten better quality seafood and a better experience at Long John Silvers. I never imagined spending nearly four hours at a restaurant on Valentine's Day only to have such an abysmal experience. Absolutely do not come here on Valentine's Day -- or honestly, at all. 1/10. read more

What can I say! I love this place. They never disappoint! Walking in you're always greeted. Staff is very friendly and I've never had to wait to be seated. The ambience is so nice. 3/10/26 had a 6:30pm reservation for 5. We were there 3+ hours! Not due to us, but the service and time it took to do anything. It was not slamming busy in there and there were a lot of employees. It took at least 30minutes for someone to acknowledge us and get our drinks ordered. Another HOUR just to take out order. It took all of us maybe 15minutes to eat and leave, balance was waiting on our food! All of us ordered steak, I ordered the 20oz Ribeye cooked to medium. This was the worst $82 steak I've ever had. It was cooked to rare, and was EXTREMLY grisly. Was not flavored with spices or rub on every bite either. My co-worker ordered the Strip rare, it was served barely even cooked, like they took a torch to the outside of it for color and that's it. The others had the same result. Come to find out the next day, all of us spent the night on the toilet. What in the literal fuck??? Worst service and food for nearly $1,000 bill I've ever experienced. The Gumbolaya (sp) was delicious! No complaints there. For my meal I had the lobster tail and ordered the Wasabi mashed as a side. My boyfriend ordered the lamb chops with a side of broccoli. The lobster was a nice size, yet not really seasoned at all. The wasabi mashed potatoes were bland. Never again.. pass go.. don't stop. My boyfriends lamb chops were cooked well, yet also lacked real seasoning. The flavor came from a glaze like sauce over them. It was a little too thick for my liking. The broccoli was fresh but also lacked flavor. I ordered the cheese cake. The slice was ok. My boyfriend selected the brownie and ice cream. It was good, but def not worth the $12. Hidden gem! Service was wonderful and food was amazing! I would recommend and plan to come again when I travel back to Chicago! Food - The baked oysters were fantastic... get the combo so you can try all 4, but really enjoyed the coho and ichi the best. Generous portion of king crab, and the steak was like butter, cooked perfectly!! Overall, food was delicious, good portions, and super fresh/good quality. Service - I sat in the bar by myself, and the staff treated me so well. Unexpectedly when I was finishing my dinner, my family joined me last minute after they finished up with their conference nearby. Ordered the Blue Points figuring that would be an excellent start at an "Oyster House." What a mistake. First one I put in my mouth was absolutely horrible....it tasted like poop waste and soap. Thankfully I didn't swallow it or I would had suffered from food poisoning for several days. The other five oysters didn't appear to by any better (or even looked freshly shucked) and I wasn't about to try another. They did take the oysters off the bill. The Tuna entree was just ok....way over sesame seeded....and "fairly fresh"...definitely not anything to write home about. A really nothing special average place - sat in the bar/lounge area. After dinner I walked by their "oyster/raw seafood bar" and how they were storing some of the oysters in the ice....I most definitely wouldn't have ordered them. One and done..... Please also note that many of the recent "Elite" diner stellar reviews are from out of town people - hardly in the know. I'm no longer trusting any of town "elite" review of a restaurant. Come on.....even on it's best day there's no way this restaurant is a 5 star experience....especially if you have "elite" dining experience. Delicious but so so pricey. Tried two appetizers for takeout and after tax, service fee and a 20% tip it came out to $62 for 6 kumamoto oysters and 6 slices of tuna tartare. The food was nicely packaged (the oysters came on ice). The tuna tartare is not what you think (read the description), as it is not a regular minced tartare but seared ahi tuna. Great little spot near McCormick Place with an excellent vibe and really first class service. Being primarily a seafood place, I went with 2 oysters Rockefeller and Grilled C. O. H oysters. They were divine. Some of the best I've had. I also tried the Tiger Shrimp app. That was a little bland to be honest and I wish I would have just done more oysters. Decided to mix it up with my entree and get chicken teriyaki with a side of Sautéed Mushroom With Sake. Wow. What impressed me was the portion size. Really nice full plate of chicken and the sauce was great. Mushrooms were delish too. Finished it all off with my fav dessert, Key Lime Pie. And it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend this spot. FIrst Time Here and I unfortunately would run to go back. Any Entree doesn't come w a side included. When you're paying over $75 for something they can throw in a broccoli. The calamari had dark breading tasted like the oil was bad. Calamari was soft inside but needed extra lemon. I ordered salmon didnt have enough dressing on the top. As much as I paid, they should of had a small dressing on the side. The fries had no cheese, but the mayonnaise sauce was the BOMB! The steak was incredible. Very good and tasty. I wasn't asked if I wanted another drink. The busboy was more attentive. The tip is included in your bill so if you had good or bad service doesn't matter its being included in the bill. read more
