Aoyama Ramen is..... good. Which is frustrating because they are SO CLOSE to getting it really, really right. The dressing was great, but too much of it. The sukiyaki..... OK, it wasn't sukiyaki it was gyudon because sukiyaki is a type of shabu/shabu or hotpot (you swish raw meat and veggies in boiling broth at the table and eat them.) But anyway. The flavoring was great, the beef and onions just MELTED. The rice wasn't sticky somehow- maybe broth had filtered through that I couldn't see. 4/5 haha. Best I've had here in the KC area! If the kitchen had just been a LITTLE more skilled/trained...... oh man, this was good but it could be just a bit better. Staff was friendly, quick, and worked well together. Ordered two beef sukiyaki and paid extra to add broccoli (got like 6 small florets). My husband and I both agree that the bowl was 95% rice and about 5 bites of shredded beef that was shredded so thin you couldn't even taste it. We also had to add sauces from home because it was very bland and dry (because of all the white rice). We also ordered gyoza and it was ok, but nothing special. Was in Lenexa for work, and craving some Ramen on a chilly fall day. Fall is by far my favorite time of year to slurp down a warm, savory bowel of Ramen & I was excited to try out Aoyama. It's located in a strip mall so parking is convenient. I got there right when it opened, so was seated quickly. The service is good, and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately the Ramen itself wasn't that great. I got some appetizers to start off ( the karaage chicken and the takoyaki octopus balls). The takoyaki was extremely doughy inside and seemed like it need to be cooked a bit longer. The karaage chicken wasn't spiced that well, and just tasted like a chicken tender. Now the ramen: I don't eat pork, and the only option for me on the menu was the veggie ramen. It basically was veggie broth with some steamed vegetables and noodles mixed in. The egg was pretty hard boiled (not the soft egg I've come to know and love for Ramen). My friend got the Tonkatsu, and he said it was okay (the spice paste help flavor the pretty mehhh broth). read more

An absolute gem of a ramen shop that met my high expectations! We recently made the 25 min drive over towards Olathe from the downtown area and it was totally worth it. This was a place that has been on my radar for a while ever since seeing some other positive reviews here on Yelp. I was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is designed like your typical ramen shop with cozy seating and a large bar. We went on a rainy afternoon, so the warm setting was perfect for some ramen. We started off with some appetizers that tasted just as good as it looked. The Karrage Chicken shouldn't be missed. Our ramen selections were just as good! I personally went with the Rich Garlic Ramen. The broth was delicious and there were plenty of pork belly given as well. An underrated part of the dish was the perfectly cooked egg given with every bowl. My bowl definitely stayed true to the rich garlic name, as there was a heavy garlic taste. But I didn't mind since I am a big garlic fan. All in all, Aoyama Ramen has become my go to place for ramen in the area. It is definitely worth the drive from downtown KC! read more

Wow, awesome, great, etc... This was perfect for me, close to work, close to my hotel, and a nice quiet place for lunch. I noticed the great smell and nice clean atmosphere. I ordered the Pork Cashu Don, diced pork belly, seasoned egg, and scallion rice bowl. It came out quick, hot, and with soy sauce, chili paste, Sriracha. The pork is tender and flavorful. The rice perfect. Egg was nicely poached with a runny yolk and great flavor. The staff was very polite and helpful. read more

I was there during lunch hour, they were busy and had couple groups in front of me. I could definitely tell that this place is new and they are trying to work out the kinks, so I am not going to knock them for service or how smoothly things could've been. Being a person who has worked in the food service industry in the past, I could tell that they are trying their best and not doing too bad of a job either. They were quick to bus the tables and sat me relatively quickly considering how busy they were. They also came back rather quickly to get my order. My food also came out fast enough that I didn't feel hangry. I decided to go with their Tonkotsu classic ramen and takoyaki appetizer. The broth of the ramen was rich, creamy but not too salty, this was my favorite part of the meal. You get a couple slices of pork with it and I was surprised by it's unique taste which I've never tasted at any other ramen place before, it was pleasant. The egg is also seasoned very well. They only thing I would have liked for them to have with the ramen is menma (seasoned bamboo). The takoyaki was not the best I've had but didn't mind it. I would definitely be back try their other ramen flavors. I am pretty optimistic that this place would do well and I do recommend giving it a try. read more

I think I just found my new favorite ramen place in Kansas City! I tried both the spicy tonkotsu and classic tonkotsu ramen this week, and they were both delicious. The broth was so thick, deep and full of flavors. The bowl averages around $10-12 per bowl, depending on which one you get. The noodles are the wavy type, and they give you a lot in each bowl. My favorite has to be the egg, it's the perfect half-boiled egg for my ramen. My boyfriend ordered the beef sukiyaki don because he really loves donburi, but it wasn't to his liking. The meat to rice ratio were off. They give you a bunch of rice but only a little amount of beef with onion to go along. The takoyaki were delicious and well-made, and they're definitely filling if you eat the whole plate by yourself. Service are pretty good, but both times I've been there, there were only 2 tables so I'm not sure if it's the same if the restaurant was packed. The waitress like to check up on you and asking how everything is going, and refill the water once it's 3/4 full. Overall, I would go here for my ramen fix, but not so sure about the donburi option. I'll give it another try later when I'm craving some rice, but I'll definitely be back to try out all the ramen flavors. Not to mention that this is only 10 mins away from my work! read more

Got the shoyu miso ramen, aka the #1. When I tell ya it was the best ramen I've had in Missouri. Well it was. Very flavorful broth that didn't feel too salty at all. Pork was tender, noodles were..noodles, but the broth! If I lived in Kansas City, I'd be in danger. It's in my top kc spots now. Wish I got a picture but I was uh, hungry. Hopefully will have that update in a few months! Side note: not the best for vegetarians. Friend I came with is vegetarian and got the veggie ramen since there wasn't a tofu option (ugh!). It looked bad and she said it was bad too. Now, most ppl don't come in for veggie ramen so I'm not holding this against them, but worth noting if you're a vegetarian or coming with a vegetarian. *disclaimer - I've never had Ramen before and don't have much to compare it to! All in all - a nice little clean ramen spot. You can get rice bowls or noodle bowls, most share the same rich pork bone broth (which we all found to be quite salty). Just a heads up, chashu, which is in more than half of the ramen bowls, is a very fatty bacon tasting type of meat. It comes as small chunks in the bowl. I didn't enjoy it much. The staff were young, but they still came up with good ideas for my young kids to choose (a combo of rice and sides) and set me up well with all the bowls, spoons and such I would need. We'd recommend the Mi So Hot ramen bowl over the Tonkostu classic bowl by a landslide. The ground pork and a bit more spice made a huge difference with that! read more

I came here to meet up with an old friend and they were craving ramen. I didn't want to drive to KC and wanted to stay in the suburbs. This is the only ramen place in Johnson county. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen and surprisingly it was better than I expected. They don't give enough spicy paste in the ramen and I think they are aware of that because they will give you more on the side. But it could also be in case it's too spicy cause better to add in spice than realize it's too spicy and not have a good meal. My best friend was also with me and they ordered the veggie ramen. They don't eat pork so there's only one option if they want ramen. I'm a little surprised that there isn't a chicken broth ramen option cause that could give another option to people who don't eat pork but don't want to only eat veggies. I thought there was more noodles than needed but I'd rather have more veggies added. I did like the broth though. It was very flavorful and comforting. I rarely crave ramen but am willing to eat it if my friends want it. Overall I like how this place is available in my area and not have to go to KC area for ramen. The place is delicious! The Gyoza is so perfect, crunchy on one side and soft and juicy on the other. The bang bang shrimp is an explosion of flavor in your mouth, just delicious! We called to reserve a table ahead of time, and by the time we got to the restaurant they had already given our table up to another party... we were on time AND early so there was no reason for them to do that. While we waited for them to prepare another table, they asked if we wanted a smaller table that could only fit 4 (we had a group 7) or if we wanted to wait for them to get more tables. So we politely declined and said we would wait, thinking that they would save that table since the table right next to it was going to leave soon and they could merge the tables to create enough space for our party. They gave away that table as well and we had to wait another 20 minutes. Anyways. We got seated at our table and the menu looked good. Looks are deceiving because the food did not taste good at all. I'm not a fan on Ramen usually but my friends convinced me to come try this place out. I think I may have been converted. I ordered the miso ramen and finished my entire bowl. The tonkatsu ramen was also very tasty. I appreciated the portion size and that none of the toppings were skimped on. A solid 4 or 4.5 star experience on a cold day. I'm on tour again post COVID, and I'll be staying in the Olathe, KS area for quite some time. During the first week of my stay, the weather decided to go all out and show me some truly cold temperatures. Well, with those temperatures comes the desire for a nice big bowl of ramen, so Yelp to the rescue! Aoyama Ramen ended up being very near our home base, so convenient it is. We were seated immediately in this narrow business. There isn't much seating here, so if it's cold out, then be prepared to wait. I noticed some other patrons had to wait outside (and some inside as well), so plan your arrival well. The restaurant and staff seem to be taking COVID seriously, so they were spacing guests out at tables, which only exacerbated the size issue I mentioned earlier. Meh, we were here and seated quickly, so no complaint from this fat guy. Our ramen hit the spot, as did the edamame. This place seems to have their broth spices down, and the rest of the ingredients were spot-on as well. The broth was nice and warm, and the meat(s) weren't too chewy. All-in-all, one nice bowl of noodles. If the temperature drops again during my stay, then I'm most-certainly heading back over to Aoyama Ramen. That's for sure! read more

I was surprised and excited to find Japanese street food tucked away in Olathe. The restaurant is small but large enough to allow for social distancing given these covid times. We ordered the bang bang shrimp, takoyaki, and tonkotsu ramen. Unfortunately, my husband finished the shrimp before I could have any. The atmosphere of Aoyama is really reminiscent of a ramen shop in Japan. The street corn had really good seasoning that I really enjoyed. The spicy ramen was not a joke, and that's how I like it! My lips were burning long after I dusted off the entire bowl including the broth. Flavors were good, and the portion was just right. A little tip for those who don't enjoy super fatty cuts of meat, you can request for leaner chashu. I will definitely remember to do that for my next visit. read more
