If I could give more than 5 stars to KC Craft Ramen, I would! The food was AMAZING, and I loved the drink selection. I was also very glad to learn that the noodles don't have eggs in them since I have an allergy. They have a small selection of vegan options, most notably a regular and a spicy vegan ramen. The vegan options are very clearly marked as such on the menu, too, so there's no confusion. The menu also mentioned gluten free noodles as an option, however I didn't get the chance to ask staff about cross contamination or anything else that might have gluten, so I can't be certain if it's truly gluten free friendly or not. The next time I go I will try to get that info and will update this review accordingly! Every single staff member was so attentive and polite, and very patient with me during my first visit when I had questions. The seating and decor are also excellent, I loved the overall vibe. Food service was so fast. Had my ramen within minutes of ordering. Love eating here. So many appetizing snack & drink options to have with your meal. This was the first time I tried this Ramen place and I was mind blown by how packed they are from inside a small place. It's a busy kitchen and there is a lot of hustle just like you would find it in Japanese restaurant locally. They are super fast and make sure all the customers are taken care of their services. Outstanding I'll give four because of the ambience and the eat inside the restaurant since there was a lot of hustle. The place was a little messy and it took time for them to get to the cleaning part but the taste of the Ramen was outstanding. One of my favorite ramen places in KC. I ordered the spicy chicken (per usual) and absolutely loved it. My friends came here for the first time and loved all the blind boxes, and the different snacks and drinks you could order before hand. A friend and I grabbed a ticket for this week's pop-up at KC craft Ramen! They were featuring Dragon Noodles from Ibaraki, Japan. I got the The Red Dragon: "Uma-Kara"(umami x spicy). This Ramen had a fire breathing silky smooth broth. It had some sweet notes to take some of the singe out of the dragon. The noodles were expertly done and it had a lot of accompaniments including a couple pieces of pork and a few other tasty treats. My friend got The Yellow Dragon: Japanese Curry Ramen She really enjoyed it as well and it was a really nice subtle flavor profile without that spicy kick. The chef even came over and talked to us for a while which was really nice because they were extremely busy. The restaurant itself has a lot of Japanese trinkets and prepackaged items for sale... There were probably Chinese and other items, but we didn't have time to browse. Decided to try this restaurant with a group of six people. We went for early dinner at 4:30pm on weekend, but it was still packed. Thankfully, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. The ambience is very cozy and they have Japanese style decor sprinkled throughout. Service was phenomenal as all the employees were so friendly and proactive. I had the spicy creamy chicken Ramen with the spicy sauce on the side. I liked doing this so I could control the spice level. Overall, the broth was very tasty as were the meat and other toppings. My fiancé had the KC Red which was also delicious and less spicy. We decided to try the homemade Gyoza, which were so perfect perfectly crisp on one side and soft on the other. read more

We chose ramen for a family dinner looking for something warm and comforting on a cold evening. Parking was a challenge, and the restaurant seemed popular which was promising. We had a large party and although the restaurant was very crowded the wait was not very long and they were very accommodating and friendly. The only concern is that there really isn't an area to wait. We had 11 people in our party and as more people came to check in we were all pretty squished. There is a store in the waiting area that had so many great options. My kids tried the onigiri (spicy chicken and spicy salmon) while waiting and said it was good. The staff was very welcoming, and as we were seated everyone you passed greeted you. Although we weren't able to be seated together, we were all right by each other and they provided excellent service! We ordered the gyoza, Spicy creamy chicken ramen (spicy on the side), KC Black garlic. The gyoza had mixed reviews from the group ranging from good but wished it had a little less char to it being the best gyoza they had. Everyone who ordered the spicy creamy chicken ramen loved it. My daughter ordered the KC Black and said it was really good but was expecting more garlic flavor. My sister ordered the KC Pepper chicken as an appetizer and that was a hit among the whole group. Because we were new we didn't realize we had to grab our drinks from the front before being seated but we were able to go out and get them quickly. We came here for the Sano ramen Yamato pop up! I loved how flavorful the broths were and they were very organized for the popup. I got the spicy miso ramen and my fiancée had the shoyu ramen. The pork belly, egg, and bamboo shoots were the perfect topping. A good bowl of ramen really depends on the noodle texture and it was perfect. We also tried their black pepper chicken and it was sooo good! I could just eat the chicken with rice and that would be my dinner! It had the perfect crisp with a sweet peppery shoyu glaze ontop. Since my first visit to KCCR, I've since attended not one, but TWO of their incredible "pop up" events with international chefs! Both of those times proved to be a very different experience from the first, from the angles of food, service, ambiance, and overall experience! Since the latest was the best, I'll comment on that one here! We reserved tickets to the Yamoto event the day they broke cover. Upon arrival a few minutes before our reservation, we were checked in outside on a FRIGID November afternoon (wind chills in the teens with LOTS of autumn wind!), but were ushered under a tent with multiple blasting heaters! PHEW!! We waited in line outside, and then inside, for about 20 minutes. We were seated in the side room to the east of the primary dining room, and let me tell you: short of a view to the kitchen, THIS is where you want to enjoy your ramen! This room is GORGEOUS! Florals hanging from the ceiling, windows all around with loads of natural light...wow! We were promptly attended to, and all our questions were answered promptly and with excellent expertise and guidance! I actually changed my mind from what I had premeditated to order, based on the information from the waitress. And boy, was it a GREAT recommendation! This was, by far, the best experience yet that I've enjoyed at KC Craft Ramen! The first was...fine. The second was MUCH better, and this third visit (and second pop up) was AMAZING! The bowl was ON. FRIGGIN'. POINT. After our meal, one of the owners visited our table for a few minutes and engaged in a great discussion about the pop ups, upcoming events, and more! KC Craft Ramen has been my go to Ramen spot for almost 2 years now. This was my boyfriend's first ramen ever?! He was immediately hooked and I think we have probably been at least 30 times. My go to is always KC Red with diced chicken. The spiciness level is amazing and they have the best broth. The service is always amazing. Just make sure you join the waitlist as you drive over but I've never had to wait too long regardless. The pop ups are always so much fun, I love meeting the chefs they fly out from Japan and trying new ramen. I love that you can buy Japanese treats, drinks, snacks in the fridge, and anime figurines. I admit to being surprised at how outstanding the ramen here was. To be fair, there is rarely going to be a bowl of ramen that I'm not going to love, but this was definitely in the top few ramen spots I've ever tried anywhere. Probably one of the best places you can get consistently solid and well crafted ramen in Kansas! If you're tired of fusion ramen having random non traditional things like carrots and veggies in a broth that just isn't hitting the spot, give this a shot. Even a year after opening there was always a 40 min+ wait until closing. It has calmed down since then but you can easily see why once you give this place a taste. If the food wasn't enough to make you come in, the makeshift Japanese store interior as you walk in is so cute with so many options. They even sell smiskis if you've been having a hard time getting your hands on these blind boxes. A unique restaurant experience unique to Kansas making it worth the visit! I always get the KC black if you want the most rich and savory soup base. The meat that comes with the creamy chicken is a little dry so I wouldn't personally recommend that one. The KC buns are pretty good to try but on the pricier side so I would rather get the gyoza which is both more satisfying and filling for a similar price. The wrapper is thin and crispy and the filling is well seasoned I didn't even need extra sauce! Visited the establishment yesterday was immediately greeted by the friendly hosts. They accommodated walk-ins very well. I arrived a few minutes before they opened their doors for the lunch crowd and there was a line. Once the doors opened to comeback the anxious crowd the employees held the doors open and handed menus to each customer. A few minutes after you've received a menu they walked through the line with portable credit card machines to help take orders and quickly shorten the line. The employees continually asked if we were enjoying our food and if we needed anything else. The food was good but nothing special. My Spicy Sesame Vegan was supposed to be spicy but I think they could have easily added triple the amount or more spicy to give it a small bite. I'm a little disappointed there were a few meat choices except a lot of pork. The ambiance is very casual with Asian decor, tchotchkes, alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink options, and sweets to buy. I started hearing from friends about KC Craft Ramen months before it opened. Through the delays to get up and running, through their challenges to find enough employees to open for regular hours, to the long (very long) lines that kept me away for close to a year after their opening. I heard people raving. I finally went for lunch on a cold Saturday in late March. I got there about ten minutes after they opened (at noon) and the place was already packed. They sell all kinds of Japanese snacks and drinks as you walk in. I didn't get a good look at them, thinking I'd take a look after lunch. That didn't happen. By the time I went back there were so many people in line to get in, that area was too crowded. Entering the dining area almost every seat was filled, but it certainly looked like KC Craft Ramen solved their wait staff shortage. There were a lot of employees bustling about, saying hello, and cheerfully helping patrons. On their television monitors they played either Japanese anime or scenic shots of Japan. I was seated at a small table as soon as I got in and they brought a bottle of water, a stainless steel cup, service ware, and a menu. I asked the friendly young man who came to take my order (no one wears name tags) what his favorite dish was and he said immediately The KC Red. Because I wasn't sure about the heat level, he said they can put the chili sauce on the side. Turns out, I needn't have worried. The heat level was about the same as Sriracha. The ramen was okay. A little bland without the spicy oil. The noodles were great. The egg was sweet, which was a surprise, and not to my liking. And so was the bamboo shoots, which also had a few too many tough pieces. The char siu was better than I've had anywhere since moving to the Midwest. Compared to other Asian food restaurants in Kansas this one was better than most. All around me I could hear people raving to their friends about the food. I know my sister loves it. My friends love it. It's just not going to be my favorite. I'm glad I tried it, though. read more

We started with the chicken bao buns, which we loved. Great cook on the chicken and great flavor. We also had some gyoza, which had a great crisp on it while maintaining the delectable flavor and moisture on the inside. My wife, who used to live in Japan, said this is what the gyoza tastes like in Japan. High praise! At this point it was no surprise how beautiful the ramen tasted. Love love love this place. To get in line to order, you're in this aisle of unique Asian drinks, desserts, candies, merchandise. The staff is very friendly they hand to you the menu and tells you the most popular ramen (black garlic) while you wait to give your order. I opted to dine in during this lunch time. It's self serve, after you order you place your table number, get your utensils and they have hot/cold water dispenser. The order came out within 10 minutes, looks like a small portion but actually a deep bowl of wonderful ramen noodles (fresh hand stretched?) with pork Chasiu (pork), half soft boiled egg, mushrooms, etc. The broth is delicious, full of flavor. I can see why this is the highest rated ramen place in Lenexa/Overland Park area. Atmosphere is cute, with 2 dining areas large enough for what I can imagine the volume of dinner or weekend crowd. Decor is cute with live plants on the window sill, nice glass bulbs hanging from rustic ropes on wooden poles. There are twinkling red/orange/green lights which add to the festive atmosphere. I saw that the table next to me ordered the fried rice which they stir for your table side. I have to agree with the rest of Kansas City and say that KC Craft Ramen is indeed the best in town. I STILL haven't had a chance to dine in yet, but it's on my to-do list for 2025 for sure. We did doordash, which I know is not the best way to enjoy ramen, but I was probably two weeks postpartum, exhausted, and really craving a soft boiled egg, which I wasn't able to eat while pregnant, so when I saw that you could get KC Craft Ramen delivered I jumped at the chance to finally give this place a go. As far as delivery goes it's a slam dunk here for ramen. They take the care to package everything separate so that nothing gets too soggy, and you can easily assemble it in your own home. On a chilly November night this was the best thing to treat ourselves to and I am already thinking about our next visit. I'm immensely grateful that KC finally has a solid ramen spot as I didn't realize how spoiled I was when I lived in Seattle and I've been on the hunt for something that came close to what I experienced there.
