Loved my ramen bowl! The service was speedy! I did not get a chance to try the teas, I will be trying one. The next time I go!
A cute, quaint spot in the Crossroads Art District! The service was fast and the ordering process was smooth, but we did have to bring our orders to the counter while other guests got their orders taken at their table. Although the food was tasty and flavorful, we felt like the staff didn't check on us like they did the other patrons. Maybe it was an off day, but it was a bit discouraging.
My friend Ryan was dying to show me and my dad this place so we decided to check it out. It was kinda hard to see from the street and would have been easy to miss. When we walked in there was anime posters and anime on the tv if that's your thing. I didn't love the vibe but they made up for it in flavor. They give you a paper menu that you fill out and turn in which I like. I got the create your own ramen bowl with chicken broth, green onions, bamboo shoots, mild spicy, chicken protein, sesame seeds and wavy ramen noodles. The flavor of the broth was so good, I kept drinking the broth and enjoying every bite of the noodles. I did not like the chicken, as it seemed to be dried out even tho it was soaked in broth. We also ordered the Karaage which came with three pieces and was really delicious. It also had an orange sauce that was really sweet and sticky. The people working seemed bored but it was really slow until we were leaving. The price was $20 a person for each getting a bowl and the one appetizer to share between the three of us. They did have to go bowls to take leftovers home.
Really good ramen overall, not cheap, but quite tasty and fun little place to eat. Also, able to work around gluten sensitivity really well. HOWEVER, buyer beware if you order the ramen with rice noodles. So many rice noodles were put in the ramen that by the time it came to the table all the broth was gone. Just a gross mass of soggy noodles... Either ask for the noodles to be served separate or ask them to halve the noodle portion. Honestly I've give 5 stars had the rice noodle ramen not been inedible (the regular wavy noodle ramen is great).
Cute little place downtown Kansas City. The parking was hard to find. You either park on street or pay by the hour. They have a wide variety of menu. Even an exclusive drink menu. Ramen was so good I even got some food to go. You order by marking on paper menu with marker. They bring your drinks and food to you. Place was a little warm inside but it was nice and friendly staff and food was so good.
Mama Ramen is one of the better ramen houses I've been to within the greater Kansas City area. It's on the older downtown side of the city and parking is on the street. The place does get busy but they're fast with bringing out the food. The entrance is misleading because of the Boba signs. There's a non-alcoholic bar area to sit at along with 8 sit down tables. There's a checklist for the ramen with many options, be warned that the extras could easily add up. The broth is tasteful, the meat is tender, the noodles and vegetables aren't overcooked. I've been here in the past 6 months and it tasted better (4 stars) but lately it's been 3 stars, so I'm unsure what happened. The Ramen at Mama is good for Kansas City and mid-west but nowhere close to the acceptable levels of West Coast, NYC, or Texas.
Great Ramen and quick service at Mama Ramen! I had Pork Dumplings and the Pork Tonkatsu Ramen Hot with a Light Bubble Passion Fruit Boba Tea. Very good and fairly priced! Check them out if you have a ramen craving.
came here for the ramen and i like the fact that it's all customizable. you get 3 free toppings, a protein, and you get to pick the spice level. i ordered the wavy noodles with miso, bean sprouts, chicken, ginger, all at a mild spice level. i've heard great things about this place but my meal was just okay. the broth was good but the toppings didn't seem fresh and the taste of the meat was off (almost a sour taste). not a lot of seating but they serve the food super fast so you're in and out pretty fast. maybe we went on a bad day but i probably won't be back
I picked up ramen to go. The ordering process was great, but I was surprised by the fee (only $1.25, but most places where I get To Go orders don't charge anything). The miso soup was pretty good, and it came with an epic amount of noodles. I got tofu as my protein and it was delicious. But the broth was not very flavourful, and the addition options are pretty minimal, especially for vegetables: no carrots or edamame, no crispy garlic. I'd try again, but it's not in my top 10...
There was excellent service - servers took our orders timely and food came out rather quickly. Overall vibes of the restaurant were nice! Some of the ramen toppings were cold and made the broth itself lukewarm. Still, the broth was creamy and well seasoned!
I was craving some ramen on a cold, rainy night and decided to grab some takeout from Mama Ramen. The food was ready on time and was packaged perfectly to avoid spillage. We started with crab Rangoon, eggs rolls, and Takoyaki Octopus Balls. The egg rolls were pretty average but good. My favorite was the crab Rangoon. They were pretty basic but sometimes that's perfect. I also went out on a limb and tried the takoyaki aka octopus balls. To be fair, this was a first and I wasn't sure what to expect. But those are definitely not for me. They may be really good but due to the texture, I couldn't make it past one bite. I also did the Create Your Own Ramen Bowl with pork belly, Tonkotsu broth, wavy noodles, bamboo, bean sprouts, corn, and extra broth. Definitely get extra broth! The pork belly was pretty lean but I prefer that to the fattier cuts. There was a good amount of noodles and the broth was delicious. The rest of the toppings were a little lacking. I feel like they were a little stingy on that. Also it said it came with an egg but mine came with half an egg and my partner, who got the same thing, ended up with no egg. So consistency may be an issue here. Overall it was really good and the prices were good for what you get. I'll definitely be back.

We need to fill up after arriving at Kansas City our choice is 1 place down but hubby rethink his choice so we going to mana ramen. Soup sounds good anyway. Seated yourself, menu in the wall choice your options. Me and my son order ramens. He choose tonkatsu base spicy wavy noodles chicken for protein. It's tastes delicious. I order ramens chicken base with pork belly and bamboo shoot mild and it's very delicious. Husband order combination friend rice and is tasty. We order few appetizers takoyaki octopus,shrimp tempura, pork fried dumpling and pork belly bun everything are delicious, crunchy and taste fresh. Slushie lychee and mango blend is good and refreshing. Place very clean. Food coming out fast after we put order. Owner look mean maybe because the location by downtown Kansas City but after I talk with him he actually nice . read more
This is the type of restaurant you will find in metro downtown area- not overly friendly, a little bit of grime, great food and quickness to get you in and out. Order from the paper menus, build your own bowls and enjoy. If you don't like the outcome it's your own damn fault. read more

The lady at the front was so kind there was nobody inside which really surprised me because the food was fantastic. Not a lot of options but everything is wonderful. I didn't get to try their Boba this time but as a first time, I will definitely be back. The service was impeccable, and when I left my phone inside, she chased me down the street to give it to me. Great food great place and I loved that they had Chinese soap operas playing. Mama Ramen is a unique and authentic ramen spot. You build your own ramen bowls and fill it out on a piece of paper. You also order your drinks on the piece of paper and the staff collects the paper once you're done. I think this is a great way to take your time with your decision and craft your perfect bowl. I got the miso, with yellow noodles, pork belly, seaweed, corn, cilantro, and it comes with a boiled egg! The broth was rich and flavorful, it was a bit spicy since I ordered the medium spice level. They had cute Japanese decorations and a nice ambiance with the music. You pay at the front and it was an easy transaction! read more
This place is delicious and has a very authentic feel to it. I love the variety they offer and the system of filling out a card to order your food. The service was also really fast, we waited barely a few minutes. The "hot" level spicy for the ramen was perfect and had a good kick. 5/5! read more

So happy to have finally tried Mama Ramen! The staff was friendly and provided quick service, it's a cute little space, and the ramen was delicious. I love spice, and went with the medium spice level out of caution and found it flavorful but not too spicy. read more
I went here with a friend specifically for the takoyaki. I would say it was just above mid. A little high on the batter and low on the octopus. The ramen we ordered was pretty decent. I got the bone broth and chicken ramen. 8 out of ten. read more

Limited seating, but there was plenty of space open on a Thursday night. We were warmly welcomed upon entering and handed paper menu slips. You get to check mark what you want to order which is fun. Their milk tea menu had lots of options and looked delicious. The Create Your Own Bowl was the option I went with, which was pretty but tasted just okay. The portion size could be better--- I think there should definitely be more broth. The bowl was hot, but somehow the noodles were not. Pork Belly was good, but not as fatty as I would like. Overall, an okay experience, but I think they have other menu options that look more promising! read more

Solid ramen joint downtown with vegan options. I stopped in on a Sunday for an early dinner. You get a form to fill out how to make your own custom ramen. They have a vegetable broth, which, when combined with rice noodles, tofu, and omitting the egg, is vegan. You also then choose 3 toppings (+$1 for more), and then select a spiciness level -- I did the max level, which was definitely spicy. The total was $14.50 plus tax. The ramen came out in about 5 minutes. The portion was generous, coming with plenty of well-cooked thin rice noodles, tofu, the toppings I selected, and a shit ton of chili paste. Everything was tasty, but the broth wasn't all that complex. Good, not amazing ramen. Recommended to get your ramen fix in KC. read more

I came here for lunch on Thursday. There were a good amount of people. Simple and nice decor inside. It's fast casual concept and you can create your own ramen. I had spicy miso ramen with Chicken charshu. The broth was ok and noodles were good. I'll try tonkotsu next time. read more

First Impression Pretty hidden away restaurant and easy to walk right past. Not the biggest place, but quaint with ample seating if there isn't a dinner rush. Quickly was sat and given a ordering card. Sometimes can be a bit overwhelming to pick all the ingredients in your Ramen but was well worth it. Food Nice, hearty ramen. I got the pork broth with pork belly and several other ingredients (can't remember them all haha). It'd be hard to go wrong though so don't sweat it too much! I got medium spice which is just perfect. Not too spicy at all, but still has the zest. The wavy noodles were perfectly cooked. Not too soft and not too rigid. Broth had a punchy flavor and allowed the add on ingredients to stand out. Pork belly was above average and cooked well. I wish the egg yoke was a bit less dry as well, but with the broth it wasn't a big problem. I usually add sriracha or other spices to my ramen, but this one was so nicely balanced I felt it would've been a mistake to add anything else. I seriously could not stop slurping! The dumplings were solid too, nothing special, but a nice side dish. Final Verdict I've been looking for a go to ramen suggestion in KC and now I have it. I loved Ramen Bowls in Lawrence, and Mama Ramen brings back that love. Will definitely be going back! 5 stars. read more

I really enjoyed Mama Ramen. I love that you can create your own ramen bowl (I've not been to many ramen places so this might be normal) and the spice was perfect! It had just enough spice to be hot but keep me coming back for more. I would definitely go back! The staff was really nice and the food came out pretty quick. I was meeting some friends for dinner and they gave us plenty of time to talk without rushing us out even though they started to get busy. My friends got their drinks and said they were pretty good too. The inside is small but the environment was great. If you like ramen, give them a try. read more

This is my first time trying this place out with some friends. Pretty impress with the food, just not the services. It was a perfect night cap on a cold day. We just played tennis and we were craving for some warm soup and what's better than a bowl of Ramen. Saw this place was close by and got some good reviews. Our ramen you get a choice of 3 toppings, wish it wasn't and unlimited and you get to create your own Ramen. I like it a little spicy and the noodles to be a bit al dente. It was good to go with a group of friends so you can order different dish and sample theirs. Perfect snacks was the karage while we wait. The services could use some help though. Besides that, would come back when they aren't too busy. read more

I love that we have all of these ramen spots popping up in Kansas City! I didn't know that I'd love ramen as much as I do but I really do. I'm glad to see this new one. I think I like the thought of build your own ramen which probably is an insult to true ramen but it's good for me since I'm funny acting about some things. The process to order is pretty streamlined & the service was quick. The staff were very friendly and answered all of our questions thoroughly. It seems like it's in a good spot. People were already starting to frequent it. That's a plus. The broth that I had was full of flavor. The heat was nice. I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back. read more
